Pulled up with a leaky tire, plugged up and on my way in just a few minutes. I'm pretty sure I have been here a total of three times, and recall them all being very quick visits for plugging, but for this most recent visit, I was super pleased. It was a Saturday, and they got me in and out so quickly it was really nice. I was "in a hurry" because I was trying to get it done while my kids napped at home with my wife, and wasn't sure how long it would take. Expecting the worst, I headed out thinking Saturday would mean a wait time. Boy was I wrong! I was probably in and out within five minutes. If memory serves, I have previously had two other plugs and a separate visit where I purchased a set of very lightly used tires, and have been satisfied with each visit. This place is great to get a tire fixed if it has a hole in it, which I have done in the past since this place is located in Hampden. Other than that I would stear clear of this place. The owner of the shop quoted me a price that was way overpriced to replace four tires of my Jeep Cherokee. After confirming that I had to replace all tires at the same time the owner suggested some sort of tire and I can't remember the brand, plus installing the new tires (service) etc. to be in the ballpark of $700+. After looking online at the tires he suggested for my vehicle I realized he was not only overcharging for the price of the tires but also the services. Being a female I am used to getting the runaround when it comes to charging me extra for maintenance of my car and this is a clear example of that. My husband has come here for tire issues and tire rotations before and knew it to be a good shop with affordable pricing so he asked me to bring our truck in for a tire rotation this weekend. When I arrived, they told me it would cost $40. I didn't question this price because I honestly didn't know the normal price of this service so I left the car and went home. When my husband came home, I told him I had dropped off the car and the price. He then told me when he has brought the same car in for the same service previously, they only charged him $20 dollars. I had obviously been given the clueless female price and he was very angry. We returned and got our car back before they put it up on the lift. Someone who I had not spoken to before apparently did acknowledge that they were wrong in giving me a doubled price and they even offered to do the rotation for free but we decided we no longer wanted this shop working on our car and decided to spend our money elsewhere. Sadly, we'd prefer to spend our money in the neighborhood but now we'll probably take it to a Wal-Mart where they charge $12-15 for the same service. The guy there took the tire off, did the 'water bath' test and diagnosed the issue in a few minutes, gave me a couple options and patched up the tire. I am new to the area and needed to get a tire replaced this past Saturday. I went to Hampden Tire and Auto and talked with Masood, who quickly put on a new quality tire. That evening, I realized the tire had a slow leak. I had to get to my moms house the next day for Mother's Day. I sent a message of the situation on their website. Within 30 min, Masood called me back, and came to my house Sunday morning and put on a brand new tire to ensure I got to my moms house ok, and would not accept any extra funds. First time I went to Hampden Tires & Auto Repair, I had a flat tire. They did their best to repair it, but my rim needed to be replaced. They got a replacement and got me back on the road quickly. The second time, I had one of my fuel injectors had a tiny leak. They took the time to figure out what the issue was, and they had it fixed the next day within the estimate. EDIT: These guys totally screwed me. I'd been coming here for years and used to trust them over the clean looking garages because they typically didn't talk me into making repairs that weren't necessary. They broke my muffler off by bottoming my car out on their driveway and returned the car to me claiming that it was just corrosion that magically appeared and snapped the muffler off. The muffler wasn't dangling off the end of my car when i brought it there and granted, yes there was corrosion, they wouldn't even come to a deal to cover the labor. I understand that wasn't done on purpose and its possible, however unlikely, that they didn't notice when they returned the car. But given my rapport with the owner, I thought they'd make it right, which they did not. I'd avoid this place. read more

I bought some tires online from TireRack and Hampden tires mounted and balanced them for 15 dollars each, cheaper than anywhere else I called in Baltimore. The lot is small, and a little difficult to get into with the traffic, but once you're in everyone is very nice and competent. It took about an hour to get the tires put on, during which time I went to the Super Fresh grocery store directly across the street and loitered in the Dunkin Donuts (also across the street). Don't take your car here! I took my car here, not only was the office manager rude, they failed components of the car that that most other inspectors would have passed. Things like "buffing out the head lights" and other small stuff. Even my mechanic said it was a nit picky report. Then when I asked for a copy of the inspection report that I could actually read since mine wasn't dark enough to be legible I was told no at first. Had to go out of my way for a legible report. I went to this place because it was close to my home. I ran over a nail and my wife went out to go to work to find a flat tire. A nail had punctured the sidewall; not fixable. Hampden Tire gave me a used tire, mounted it, and put it on my car for only $37! Not sure how long it will last, but it certainly worked in a pinch. The whole process took less than fifteen minutes too! The folks working there were very friendly, both to me and to the people who were calling in on the phone. I took my car to Hampden Tires last month because I needed two new passenger side tires. My boyfriend took his car there when he needed a tire replaced, and was pleased with the service, so I figured I'd try them out. I didn't get up as early as I would have liked (it was a Saturday) and I was worried they wouldn't be able to a) do the job at all or b) finish the job on the same day. Fortunately, the lot was empty and the owner said they definitely could put the two tires on and do an alignment by closing time. Phew! Me and my boyfriend wasted time across the street, and eventually ended up chilling at Dunkin' Donuts. It was cool because they actually came across the street and got us (in addition to calling) when they were finished with the car. The mechanic wasn't totally pleased with the alignment. The owner told me to bring my car back on Monday and they'd re-do it free of charge; plus they would throw in a free oil change! To me and my boyfriend the car felt fine while driving, but I appreciated their honesty and my car appreciated the tires and an oil change. I knocked a star off because my rims were filthy afterwards, and it sounds picky but they put green valve stem caps on the tires and they looked kind of tacky. Also, I can't help but feel like the alignment should have been done correctly in the first place. On the other hand, I understand that I came later in the day and they got progressively busier (the lot didn't stay empty for long). I appreciate how they wanted to make things right, though. I will definitely come back to Hampden Tires because they value their customers and provide great service. They are knowledgeable and will give it to you straight. Their prices are very reasonable which is always a perk in my book! Hampden Tires provides auto services outside of tire repair and they have Sunday hours which is just plain awesome! I have a 2002 Mercedes C230, and while I love my car, it requires a lot of maintenance. I'm happy I found a shop that won't charge an arm and a leg for repairs. Good customer relations. But that's it I needed to replace all my tires, and so I purchased a set on tirerack.com, and had them done in an hour, total $70. I also came back and got my wheels aligned, also done in an hour, about $80. It's a cramped area, and I can see it getting busy really fast, but I definitely trust these guys and will go back to them a few more times through the year to get my wheels rotated. I also came here because there is a Dunkin Donuts across the street, where I can get my work done. They also come over across the street to let you know work is done. I could have gone to Sears, Firestone, etc, but the professionalism, convenience, and price won me over. One star off for leaving some dirt in the interior though (steering wheel, shifter, etc). They're now open 7 days a week, would suggest calling ahead to make sure no big work tickets are ahead of you. edit: I originally gave this place 4 stars, but, unfortunately, this edit comes on the back of a failed tire rebalance x2. Immediately after both rebalancings, I could feel turbulence once i hit 60 mph. The first time I brought it back they rebalanced it for free and also explained that the cold weather may lead to some weights falling off. Furthermore, they said if it happens again, that I can get it rebalanced somewhere else and they will give me a check for $30. Amazing. I did eventually wait for a warm day, got my car washed to get the brake dust off, and went to Tire Network. Sure enough Hampden cut me a check for $30. Never got defensive about their work, absolutely professional. Unfortunately, the first rule of any business is that you have to do your job, and no amount of customer service can cover that up. read more

UPDATE: The owner called me back and offered to reimburse me for the inspection fee and the gas used to transport my car between Baltimore and Pikesville. I expressed my concern that he was falsely advertising and he said he could understand that point, and would be forthcoming in the future about their inspection arrangement. He was polite in resolving the issue. I will be taking my car elsewhere to be inspected on-site, but I appreciated their willingness to resolve the issue. Rating changed from 1 to 3 stars. -------------- Just went here for my state inspection. They have a huge "MD state inspection here" banner flying, and told me it would be no problem when I dropped it off. It turns out their state inspection license has been revoked and they drove my car to Pikesville without authorization to get the inspection done by someone else at a random Shell gas station. I wouldn't have ever learned this except I had concerns about the inspection results and asked to speak to the person who did it... and they didn't know his name because he DOESN'T WORK THERE. I asked if anyone else complained about this practice of outsourcing the inspection and the person I spoke to said customers might not know it's being done. Yeah, probably not since you don't bother to tell them. I certainly didn't. Perhaps I would have figured it out when I noticed my gas tank was almost on empty after over 45 minutes of unauthorized driving of my car. This is all on top of the fact that they identified over $500 worth of repairs that magically appeared in the 3 weeks since my trusted mechanic in MA last looked at the car. I wish I'd checked Yelp first... Avoid this place like the plague -- they are incredibly shady and had zero apologies about their dishonest practices. read more

I had been to the auto shop twice. The first time I had my battery replaced there. A couple of weeks later, I took my car for oil change in another auto shop, the mechanic told me that my battery was not properly installed because a part used to anchor the battery was missing ! It caused battery corrosion. So the mechanic in the hampden auto repair was so irresponsible and sloppy! A couple of weeks ago, I took my car there for state inspection. The mechanic failed the inspection and solicited significant repair with the cost ~$ 1800. I therefore took my car to another state inspection station for a second opinion. Though the 2nd inspection also failed, but the repair cost was way less ! I'll never ever go to the terrible auto shop again! read more

Best Service Ever! We've used Hampden Tires for both of our cars and bought new tires each time: Falkens and Bridgestones. They can get any brand you need, since they work with a couple of different distributors. They are patient, courteous, professional and knowledgeable. Each time, I've called them to get a quote and they've been SOOO patient with my many questions. Here's how they work: Call them first and tell them what you need. If they have the tires in stock, you will be able to get them same day. If not, they get the tires within 24 hours. You can also just drive up and see what they've got, but I don't recommend it since it's a small shop on 41st Street and it's a no parking zone just outside the shop (not that it makes a difference - many people have their cars pulled up temporarily). Today, I needed a replacement tire because I ran into something that punctured the sidewall of my tire. Genius, I know. Anyway, they did not have the tire I needed, so they put an available used tire on my car and ordered the one I need...no charge. These guys really are the perfect professionals. They work for their customers. Did I mention it was 105 degrees when they kindly helped me out? They also do engine work, but I've not used them for that. read more

Took my girlfriends car in for battery/alt because it kept dying and they said there wasn't an issue with the car. No lights on dash nothing. Even though when I dropped it off for the 2nd time it had all the problems. So I picked it up the next day to only then get 5 mins up the road and, her car dies same problem. I call them up and, the guy tells me he drove it around 695 and came back up northern park way for 15mins without any problems. I've had a streak of bad luck with my car lately and in the past 3 months I've had a flat tire (which they fixed in 20 minutes), had my tires replaced (which they had done in less than a half day) and had to have the "door open" signal button reset and car jumped (which they did in an hour). They have always been timely (with or without appointments), so kind and respectful, and they always kept me informed of their decisions. They always try to maximize quality while minimizing the cost which is rare in my experience with car shops. I originally started using them a few years ago for fixing some nail holes in my tires. They fixed it on the spot in a matter of minutes and sent me on my way for bargain costs. Then I trashed a tire pretty badly with a nail that ripped apart my side wall. He put two used Lamborghini tires on my car. It was so sweet! I wanted to replace all 4 tires but he only had the two. So I bought 4 new Cooper tires from him. He never charged me for the use of the used tires, putting them on or off, just the cost of the new tires. We used him for my Mustang and Jeep Cherokee. I thought for sure I needed new tires and was ready to purchase new ones. He said I had about another year left on my tires and there was no reason to buy new ones yet. So he rotated the tires for me and I had him do a oil change. My Mustang had an issue with the ignition and it wouldn't start with a key. It would only start with the remote. So I assumed someone broke into my car and ruined the ignition switch. I asked them to take a look at it and give me an estimate to replace it and he looked at it, said my chip on the security system was slightly corroded, he cleaned it, and it works perfectly with the key in the ignition. He wouldn't charge me for taking the time to look at it and fit it. Wouldn't even let me buy them a case of beer. These guys are about as honest and hard working as it get's. They will certainly always get my business and the business of anyone who asks me. It has an old school, home town feel and attitude. Easy to talk too. They stand behind their work. And they wont take you to the bank. Hands down the best mechanics in the area. On a side note... they are small as others have mentioned. When I was there yesterday, there was a line of cars going down the block to see these guys. That's how well respected they are. There's lot is very small, so parking is limited. But if you want trustworthy people, talk to the owner of this place. read more

NEVER EVER repair your car here. The worker in this mechanic is extremely rude. I just changed a break pad, a tire, tire rotation, they charged me $600. And I ask them to give me the details about the cost, they refused to give me a copy. The worker yelled at me. When I found that the car is not completely fixed and asked him to screwed one plastic part in my car. He rudely refused and extremely rudely ask me to get out, even threaten me to call the police. I have been using Hampden Tires for years and have never had a problem. They are always super helpful and professional. Recently dropped off our dead car looking for a reason why it was dead. They spent the time figuring it out and when it was the timing belt they didn't charge us. They even let us keep the car in their lot while we got the title straightened out.
