I found Advance Upper Cervical a little over 3 years ago when I had some Covid time to kill. Feeling 80 in your 30s can't possibly be normal. I was at a low point having already scoured the internet, explored many blood tests, and most recently tried a traditional chiropractor who provided only momentary relief. Keyword searches of chronic fatigue and scoliosis eventually led me here where I found the only lasting relief in more than a decade. By day, I'm a business development manager who drives 25,000 miles/yr. By night, a mountain biker rider who rides 2,500 miles/yr and crashes often. I hobbled into Dr Noah Kaplan's office approx 6 months ago with lower back pain and headaches in the back and top of my head which are a 6 or 7/10 on the pain scale. Katherine at the front desk is great to work with scheduling and general questions. On the first appointment Dr Kaplan ran what seemed like a 360 degree X-ray of my spine noticing some issues that needed to be corrected. He devised a treatment plan which we followed that didn't just include adjustments, there were several excises which played a huge part in the plan. His adjustments (when needed) were not aggressive and he ended every session with a few minutes in the zero gravity chair followed by a short scan on the back of my head to make sure everything lined up correctly. Currently, lower back issues and headaches have just about disappeared lowering me to a 1 or 2/10 pain scale depending on how bad I crash my bike. I'm human and often get lazy not doing the proper exercises Dr Kaplan showed me which result in pain, however, as soon as I get back to the exercises I'll often feel better without any adjustment needed. Dr. Kaplan is amazing, he efficiently treated my debilitating pain when a half dozen other docs and specialists couldn't help at all. I had absolutely debilitating pain in my neck, arm, chest, back, and armpit. I had a MRI and was diagnosed with two pinched nerves in my neck. I suffered w/the pain for 4-5 months while trying: steroid shots in my neck (no improvement at all), two different acupuncturists, physical therapy (made it worse), a marginal chiropractor, both over the counter and prescription lidocain patches, and daily maximum does of ibuprofen and gabapentin with opioids at night so I could sleep through the pain. Conventional medicine through my primary care provider was useless. Then I saw Dr. Kaplan, he immediately found another problem in addition to the pinched nerves that my primary care provider found. He put a treatment plan together, I started seeing relief in the first few weeks and now 3 months later I'm back working out at almost 100% and I haven't taken ibuproferen in a week and don't expect to. I see Dr. Kaplan. Originally, I had regular terrible migraines and after seeing him for about two months, the migraines are much less frequent and the pain has gone down. If you have migraines, please come see Dr. Kaplan because it may help you too. The adjustments are not painful. They take a few minutes and it's twice weekly for about two months and down to once every two weeks. The cost is per package and reasonable for the results you may get. This is a very nice office and the receptionist, Catherine, is very nice too. It's a small office but Dr. Kaplan and his partner keeps things running smoothly like clockwork. Miracle workers. I've always had trouble with my neck due to seizures but after I was thrown off a car last spring, I started experiencing intense pain and immobility, along with headaches and horrible TMJ pain. My jaw clicked every time I opened or closed, and even my breathing felt a little constricted. My dentist told me that I had the worst TMJ gap he'd ever seen and recommended expensive (and not covered by insurance) surgery to fix the pain. I'd been to the ER for my latest neck injury and knew that nothing was broken or injured, but when these guys brought me in for imaging, they confirmed that my upper cervical vertebra was slightly out of alignment, and that they could help correct it. I bought a package and for the first few months came in twice a week for a little karate chop re-alignment to my neck. Every re-alignment I'd feel a profound difference. I'd feel my jaw shift back into place, my breathing would stop being constricted, blood felt like it was flowing to my head better, and I'd stand straight instead of lopsided. I am very thin without strong musculature, and even with the rehab exercises given, I didn't really start holding the realignment on my own until I started going back to vinyasa flow yoga. If I get off my yoga schedule, sometimes after a few weeks (I can feel it instantly now) that vertebra will start to slide out of alignment, and I go back in for a re-adjustment if going back to yoga doesn't quickly get me back in line on its own. I have chronic pain on my neck and shoulder for several years now. Never a night goes by without me applying some menthol cream/gel on those areas. I started seeing Dr. Noah in March. After years of battling weekend-long migraines, my physician suggested I see an Upper Cervical Chiropractor. The first one I saw helped eliminate the headaches, but sometimes required lengthy office visits 60-90 minutes). He left the area and recommended Dr Kaplan. You're never going to find a more knowledgeable, transparent and gentle chiropractor than Dr. Dan McClelland. I was very anxious about being injured or hurt during my procedure and he was very comforting and understanding. He didn't make me feel crazy for being worried. The cervical treatment consists of realigning two critical bones at the top of the spine, basically so they don't nudge or interfere with the brain stem and a series of important nerves that run from the brain to the body. You're making sure that the communication from the command center is perfect and glitch free. There can be many issues that arise from imperfect communication in this area, from brain fog, to bad posture, to problem digestion and worse. These critical bones become misaligned in several ways, often from childhood.... falling out of a tree, off your bike, a smack in the head from Dad - whatever. The body then adapts and molds its musculature around the misalignment, twisting you and trying to "fix" the distortion. Kaplan's service starts with some fascinating x-rays, taken on the spot, with some huge Kodak-looking machines. The precision is amazing. Then, software draws the angles where your skeletal structure is off. Kaplan's expertise is fixing what's off. You buy a series of appointments and start with three per week or so. It's a flat fee and you come as many times as you need to, gradually reducing the number as you begin to hold the adjustment. In other words, he keeps putting your system in alignment until your body holds the perfection itself. The adjustment is fast and there is only one. It's over in 2 seconds and then you rest in an anti-gravity chair for 15 minutes to let it 'set'. Don't be scared, it's no big deal. My results over three months were superb. Much less brain fog, increased energy, more focus, better posture, and issues with my digestion fixed. It works and I recommend it. As humans we walk around with a tremendous number of issues plaguing the body. We've gotten used to it, adapted and absorbed various abnormalities, and we begin to believe they're the norm. I recently saw him at his joint practice at Upper Cervical Chiropractic of Marin, and had a fantastic experience. I started seeing Dr. Dan back in December 2017 when I could barely walk due to lower back pain. I was a little skeptical when he focused on my cervical spine and not my lower back. I have seen different chiropractors since I was in high school and they all focused on adjusting my lower back, but I was still having problems and they seemed to be getting worse. I can honestly say today that my back feels better than it has in a long time and is able to re-adjust itself when I am out of alignment. I have had tight hips and hamstrings due to running and even those are more flexible. It's not a short process, it takes many appointments, exercises, and regular care. But, the process is intended to give you regular care until your issue resolves over a few months or so and then continue as necessary for maintenance. I felt more comfortable with Dr. Kaplan than any other provider and appreciate his approach. I have seen incredible results. There has rarely been a day where I have a headache, no more jaw pain, and even the piriformis issue seems to have resolved with the changes in my neck.
