Dr Barnett has been my dermatologist for decades (Olney, MD and Rockville, MD offices)--long before he joined Advanced Dermatology (AD). He is excellent. He is the reason for the 5 star review--not the Advanced Dermatology company (see below). However, the front end access to AD is horrible (e.g., making appointments with a specific Dr, reaching a real person). It is so bad that at times I have thought about switching to another practice even though it would mean losing Dr. Barnett. They have automated access to the point that it is virtually impossible to reach a real person to get help with anything that is not able to be handled by their IT front end (like unusual/non-typical circumstances that you may have that require speaking to a live agent). I find it extremely frustrating to deal with their front end and it seems to be getting worse over time. AD is a huge company that has obviously invested heavily in IT, so it does not have to deal/talk with real live patients. Based on my last interaction, they are employing AI bots (not just chats) to communicate with patients. And worse news, companies like AD have taken over virtually all independent practices so that it is extremely difficult to find an alternative independent practice that might provide better customer service. read more

I've been seeing PA Kelli Clair at Greater Washington Derm for a few years now and have received the best of care. Her exams are thorough and never rushed. She is honest, informative and manages to keep things light. I've sent several friends and family to see her and they all agree. Just be sure you get her when you first call for your appointment because my review is mainly about her and not the practice overall. The admin side of this practice is sloppy at best. I'll get numerous texts from them reminding me I'm overdue for my yearly full body exam and I'd get them starting within a week after I just had it. And the billing is just annoying. I get texts and emails and even a paper bill telling me I still owe $80 and they start coming within a day after my insurance review. I really don't have a problem with any of this as this is a big practice and redundancy and clerical screwups are expected. But the big issue is when I emailed them through the patient portal to ask about a cream treatment that wasn't working, I don't hear from them. I get a nice response from the portal administrator saying they are forwarding my questions to the medical staff, again. But still, no response. So they oversaturate you with scheduling and billing notices... but when you use their apparently worthless patient portal for an actual medical question, they disappear. Easy to make an appointment online and Dr met me at the appointed time. Great service.

If you identify as binary gender then yes this place is good for that. However if you identify as non-binary gender then no I would not recommend this practice. The physician in this practice is not well equipped or educated to handle such marginalized patients. The only thing I could say is the folks on the receiving end like the receptionist and the scheduler are very respectful and acceptance and affirming so yes if you just want that kind of treatment it is good for mental then yes i recommend that but not the physician in the practice. To be fair it is not the fault of the physician. I have much hope that this practice does have potential for growth and get more physician that is equipped to provide care to non-binary folks. read more

We've gone to this practice for years, mainly for routine skin checks. We've never been overly impressed and always had better experiences with the PAs versus the doctors. A week ago my husband showed up for a 12:50pm appointment to find a note on the door stating that the staff was at lunch and would be back at 1pm. Then why schedule a 12:50pm appointment? If that wasn't bad enough, no one ever showed up for at least another hour and my husband gave up!! He waited with an elderly lady who was also there for her appointment and he felt very sorry for her because she had to sit in the hallway on a medical sample container. My husband has heard NOTHING from them since! This is a terrible way to run a business!! read more

Had a skin tag procedure at extra cost without any anesthesia. Felt more like I was participating in a profit center than a medical office. They were very clear about the charges ahead of time and left the decision up to me. I was taken aback by the cauterizing without any numbing. read more

Would have given 5 stars but had to wait almost a month for an appt. Other than that I was extremely pleased with the courteous receptionist on the phone, the appt reminder and the safety protocol in place at the office. This is the third time I've been to see Kelli Clair, PA-C and after my first appt with her I've requested her specifically each time since. She's approachable, direct and a very good listener. And she knows her medicine. She has never made me feel rushed and this most recent appt resulted in being prescribed a cream that took care of a chronic skin inflammation I've been dealing with for way too long. What a relief to have someone who has a bedside manner and the professional chops to take care of the problem. Highly recommend Kelli Clair! read more

The office was very clean and organized. The doctor did not have great bedside manner and was not thorough in my opinion.

Excellent experience. First time at this particular facility, but have been a patient there for maybe two years or so. Very professionally screened when i arrived, and taken care of. Biopsy with local anesthesia, the Physician Assistant and Physician were beyond excellent both in their "bedside manner", courteousness, answering questions, explaining procedures, safety and cleanliness protocols. While "digging around " (my words), made sure i did not feel anything and was surprised how quickly they took care of business. Gave very detailed oral and written aftercare instructions for aftercare. Could not have had a more perfect experience. Then, was even more pleasantly surprised by a call from the physician herself, later that evening asking how i was doing and offering to take a call if anything changed. read more

Greetings all. I can't imagine what might have happened to the other two reviewers. I have had nothing but outstanding service here. The doctors have been excellent to me and my teenage son. The staff and administrative folks have been terrific. My wait times have always been just a few minutes. I have been treated respectfully and had my questions answered and my skin issues quickly and courteously dealt with. I would HIGHLY recommend this practice. One tip - schedule you appointments early in the morning to avoid waiting. read more

Went to Dr Colonna for a rash under my eyes. He said it was allergies. He gave me a prescription for a cream which didn't work. The directions said use on affected area, no specifics. Turns out the cream didn't work because it was for eczema not allergies. Not the first time I've been unhappy with this practice. Not recommended. read more

Except for Dr Jay Barnett who im trying to get a hold of again every dr i dealt with (rockville location) has blown my mind once again... trying to get refills .... loooong story short....been a patient since 2015 been on humira since 2016 then 2019 lost insurance from job but was able to get through state a few months later which was covid needed refill for humira it took 5 months to get this too happen that refill ended sept 2021 when i went to get refill they claimed i had to start as if i was a new patient because i hadnt been in for 2 years (last prescription ended a few months ago (do the math) so now im completely covered with psoriasis again they will not acknowledge anything I say about anything they are grossly rude and arrogant for some reason i cant catch a clue as to what they feel they are but dr they are not it took me a lot of prying to see what the deal was with them starting me as a new patient and finally dude said your insurance wont cover even tho they did when i got my last refill and they told me they would now even humira said just get the prescription we will take care of everything else but no one can answer why they wont do this.... it is obviously something personal or we have narcissistic lonely folks who had issues so deep from the past that they take it out on the us if you have medicaid you are st their mercy they are the only derms around me that accept it and they seem to milk that....last time i did a review they whole office gave me the slant brow look and gave total attitude.... they basically have let my psoriasis come back and cover my entire body after years or being clear and they said its not a problem i was initially prescribed a little ointment for my flare ups when i went in in October that last 3 days 6 months later nothing has gotten better everything has gotten worse and its okay as far as they are concerned if you have a chronic long term issue be careful try to find dr barnett or run just run........ lastly i was told try otezla come back in 2 months its been over 2 and they wont take my appointment i dont have refills of my creams and my otezla is 4 days late...... good luck read more

I wanted to comment on the unusually long wait times at this office. I was scheduled to see a P.A. yesterday and she was running 1 1/2 hours behind. Two patients had to walk out before me because they had been waiting for too long. There is either a problem with the way they schedule their appointments or they over book patients but whatever it is, if you are scheduled to see them, bring a book! It would have been nice for the receptionist to at least tell people when they check in that the office is running behind. I am giving one star because at least she apologized when I told her I had to reschedule. There is another Derm office next door at 18111 who would likely be a better choice. read more

Saw Dr Colonna twice. Seriously, avoid this doctor. I've been to this practice four times and to be honest I'm mad at myself. I probably shouldn't have gone back after the first time but I continued so I could resolve the problem. The first time I saw Dr. Colonna he literally sat on the counter and never came over to look at what was happening on my skin. I'm not sure how a dermatologist can determine a skin issue while sitting across the room. My second visit I saw Dr. Barnett and the visit went much better, they did a biopsy and I had to go back three weeks later. I did go back for my follow up and specifically asked for Dr. Barnett and told them NEVER to schedule me with the other doctor. He told me the biopsy showed nothing and not to worry about it. Several weeks passed and I was still having an issue. I had previously booked a follow up visit, thinking it was with Dr. Barnett. Imagine my surprise when I walked into the room to find Dr. Colonna...... Who once again sits right on the counter. He proceeds to inform me that I did indeed have something that needed to be treated and was I taking care of the issue and taking care of it with the medication they had given me on my last visit. However they never told me I had a problem, never gave me a prescription, and of course I had not been dealing with the problem. He made it sound like it was my problem and my fault instead of them not giving me the correct diagnosis or prescription. I am definitely finding a new dermatologist for any future problems and recommend you do to! read more

I just returned from my appointment with Dr. Barnett at Greater Washington Dermatology. I was surprised to see the negative reviews. I've been seeing Dr. Barnett for years. I've had nothing but caring, positive interactions with him and his staff. The wait time was very reasonable. I arrived a little early, but was still seen in 10 minutes or so. Dr. Barnett discussed my concerns, performed my annual skin scan and a minor procedure. I would highly recommend this practice. read more
