I discovered Zoltan through yelp and decided to have my suit altered by him. His shop is exquisite and reminds me of the old school tailors in Europe. Initial appointment went well and he seemed to have taken accurate measurements. From here on, it all went downhill. My suit was not ready at the given time and I had to change my schedule and make another appointment. When I picked up my suit, I was given an exorbitant bill for his services. Fine, I don't have issues paying for quality work. However, the work was sub par and it actually made me quite upset. When I tried on the suit, it looked almost like it did before the alteration! In fact, the blazer arms were completely uneven. How could a professional tailor not notice this and give the suit back to the customer? When I complained to him and hinted that he ought to have looked at this before charging his high fee, he got upset and thought I was insinuating that he overcharges for poor work. That was certainly not my intention. I just wanted him to be aware that a customers time and expectations are important and he didn't have the eye for detail that he advertises, he should not have taken on the job. I will not be returning to him, unfortunately. read more

I first discovered Advanced European Tailoring in my junior year at UCB. It is now 3 years after I have graduated and I still make the trip back to Berkeley to get my clothes altered. The service here is excellent and personable. Zoltan has seen me grow over the years and he will mention something if he hasn't seen me in a while. This place is amazing! Very kind, personable, friendly service. I had 30th birthday portraits yesterday and was in need of trustable services for two things--the widening of two hemlines on one vintage dress by Guy Laroche and new bottoms on another traditional habesha chiffon dress. Zoltan and his wife took great care of me. They also took care of my dry cleaning as well! Zoltan and family went above and beyond to not only expedite my tailor needs he also personally opened up shop on a Friday evening (after hours!) when I mistakenly forgot they were not open on weekends. He literally postponed his travel plans just to ensure I received my dresses in time to shoot. To say he is accommodating is an understatement--he is the best tailor out there! Before I came to this place, I had been made aware of a negative experience of My experience here was awful. I went in to have a dress dry cleaned, I came in on the expected pickup day and my dress was nowhere to be found. The gentleman working here apparently looked everywhere and I had to return on another day. This time around they found the dress but it was not dry cleaned. I then had to return on a third day; my dress was finally clean and ready to go, however, I did not expect to have such an awful experience. i went here twice. both times the pants were not hemmed to my desired length - they were left too long. the first time this happened, i paid to have them re-hemmed. the second time, i demanded they be done for free. i waited the extra week for the pants and when i picked them up they tried charging me again. of course. i won't go here again. they are overrated. read more

Zoltan (yes, that's the name of the man who runs this little shop) is so nice that I hate to give him a bad review, but after two pairs of pants have come back from him too short for me to wear, I have to do it. Maybe it's my own fault and I'm telling him to hem them too short. But I really don't think that's it. When he pins them up before I leave, they look great, just barely skimming the ground. Then, when I pick them up, I have pants that show off my ankles. up until now, my sartorial experience has pretty much been limited to watching say yes to the dress on my couch - basically, if it doesn't fit, i don't buy it. but when the 7 for all mankind warehouse sale came to the SF hilton, i was prepared for all of that to change. i'm 5'2" with short, asian legs, so every pair of jeans i've ever purchased ends up with ratty, frayed hems because i've stepped on them all over the city. so, i ended up boycotting jeans for about 3 yrs, which have thankfully come to an end. my roomie amy is the jeans QUEEN (proud owner of about 23 pairs), and insisted that my long torso and short legs were no reason to give up on denim. she escorted me to the warehouse sale, and i happily exited four pairs of jeans richer. however, two of those pairs required hemming, and for that, i sought the counsel of zoltan. zoltan is friendly and lightning fast with those pins; making razor sharp creases which will become my new hemlines. he was careful to find out if i had washed my jeans or not before he went at them with the scissors. and the result? two pairs of perfect pants, sized for this mini me. and for only $10 a pop; $18 if i'd have wanted the original hem. but with his amazing work, who needs it? read more

This is, hands down, my favorite dry cleaner/ tailor in town! Zoli and Pugi are professional, polite, efficient, and.... just plain fabulous. They always make my clothes--and hence, by proximity, me--look AMAZING.... I brought in a vintage suit that had belonged to my late father for tailoring. I'd asked to have the extra fabric saved for the possibility of future repairs. When I picked up the suit they didn't have the fabric. They said they'd search for it and call. They never called. I left a message several days later inquiring and asking for a return call. Other people seem to have a good experience with Zoltan, but I didn't feel that he really put time and effort into helping me with my alteration. He knows his stuff, but with his volume of business I don't think he has time for people who don't already know what they want. I brought in a coat that I had made over the internet, so it needed some alterations. I had never had a coat tailored, or a coat that fit for that matter.I mentioned all these things to a man who I assume was Zoltan. And he set me up on the stand and merely pinned the sides of my coat and asked if that looked OK. It looked alright to me, but it didn't occur to me to try moving my arms around or anything. Later when I went to drive in the coat, the shoulders bunched up a ridiculous amount. They went up to my ears! I didn't want every car ride to be an ode to Lady Gaga, so took it back to Zoltan and he explained that it was because the armhole was too big and that I would need a remake. I was pretty disappointed in my experience. He always seemed to be in a hurry, and really unwilling to put more time into working with me. He didn't really offer a lot, and kind of gave me the bare minimum of service. I was always out of there in 5 - 10 minutes. I'm also a little bothered by the fact that he told me I would need a remake after I had paid for the 1st alteration. I've seen some of the things other customers bring in. He has an eye for clothing, and it looks like he can repair tears in clothing at a reasonable price, but I don't know if he has the time for more time consuming work. read more

Zoli and Pugi are the best!!!! They take care of my clothes with a quickness. All my shirts and pants come back clean, and pressed crisp. The also repair leather goods. When it comes to fitting and adjusting peoples outfits, Zoli knows how to make you look "wonderful". These two people have the highest respect for all their customer, and are utter professional. There are a few tailoring and dry cleaning places in Oakland where I live, but I will not let anyone else touch my clothes. read more

I've had lots of work done by these folks and been happy with all of it. They've hemmed jeans, reshaped skirts and coats, and even patched my favorite jeans when I fell and tore the knee -- you can't even SEE where they fixed it. I would trust them with any repair or alteration. I've only used the dry cleaning service once, and was happy enough with it. I used to have a great experience here; but after they moved locations to Addison (from by Jupiter) I have had a very different experience. I had 2 dresses altered here. The first was done poorly (and was rather expensive). When I pointed out a very noticable error on the dress, the tailor said he didn't know what I was talking about. I showed him the lump in the dress near my hips and he agreed to fix it. It was for an out of state wedding and I ended up having to go back about 2 hours before my flight left. I'm glad I asked for it a day early. The second dress I was told would be done and I didn't hear from them. So, I stopped in to inquire about it and the tailor said he didn't do it after having the other employee look for it. I asked when it would be done. He asked when I needed it. I said it wasn't a rush, but just wanted to know when it would definitely be done. He said it could be done next Friday, but since he sounded so short and I've been having so many problems I said I'd just like to take it elsewhere. I told him that I was disappointed in the recent experience I'd been having hoping we could talk about it. He responded by blaming me. Then when I walked out the door he made a sarcastic comment. read more

First time I came to this place a few months ago to fix a zipper, and I was very impressed, I thought this guy is very nice and professional, although I thought 22$ for a zipper is a bit expensive I thought it's worth it (I was new in town and maybe this price is normal and I'm just not familiar with it). Second time I came to this place was a week ago, I needed to fix another zipper and to make my skirt a few inches shorter. The zipper was great but the skirt wasn't symmetrical (the price for this one was 22$ for the zipper and 32$ for the skirt) I showed it to him and he agreed and said: I'm trying to see if it's the skirt or your hip line (what? That's rude) he played with the skirt and kept saying maybe it's my hip line, I asked him if he wants me to take it off and measure it and he said no and marked the line he needs to cut again. When I took the skirt off I showed him that one side is longer than the other if you fold it vertically and compare, he told me that you don't suppose to measure it top to bottom, it should be measured only on the body and only the piece you take off (but what if I bought a poor quality skirt and it's not even- if you want to make it symmetrical you should measure it from the top to see it's the same amount of inches on the right side as on the left side). Next day I came and it was the same thing- not even, you could see it on my body as well as when you hold it down. He looked confused, saying he doesn't understand what happened because he cut it exactly how he marked it (but only on my body and not making sure it's the same amount of inches top to bottom both right and left) I asked him to make it symmetrical both sides and measure it in a way that the left side and the right side will be the same length and if it's not going to work then it's on me. Next day I came and it was much better but I felt it's still not exactly even, when I took it off and held it vertically I saw 1 inch difference, when I mentioned it he got really angry saying he doesn't have time for this and that every time I asked to fix it he did (accusing me for doing it several times). I said maybe I'm wrong now but why are you mad? You agreed with me it wasn't good before, you suppose to fix it in the right way... He was angry saying different things and then saying "good bye" so I'll leave, never apologized for the inconvenience, nonetheless offering a compensation for not doing it the right way and making me come there two more times than I supposed to. I came home and measured it and I'm attaching the picture so you can see there is a spot with 1 inch longer. read more
