Love this place. Be warned though, so does everyone else. Don't go on a Saturday if you can help it. They're closed Sunday/Monday so try for Tuesday-Friday. Hems are $10 or $18 for original hems. He takes into consideration if you've washed stuff and makes the necessary adjustments. The hems have come out perfectly all but once (still too long) and he took care of that one time without charge. Alterations vary but seemed reasonable. Zoltan even told me that getting a pair of pants altered wasn't worth it, because I could probably find that brand on sale for cheaper than he could alter them. I really appreciated that. I also really appreciate how friendly, professional, and accommodating they are. Since I work in San Francisco it can be a challenge to get there before closing to pick up my stuff and one day when I got there at 6:02 (after the door had been locked) they were nice enough to open up just so I could pick up. Dropped off a couple of jumpsuits to be hemmed. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and the results were just right. I've been going to AET for a few years now. Ever since they changed locations, i've noticed a decline in quality. Zoltan is a great tailor. I've had countless designer jeans altered. There was one occasion where i requested to have a regular hem (not french, where they keep the regular hem). I received the pair w/ the french hem and got charged for it. There was another occasion when i had a pair pegged. Last time i had my jeans pegged it cost me $12. I went back a few weeks later and i was charged $22. I definitely recommend getting a price before you commit. read more

Forewarning: I only dropped off my suit today for alterations and have yet to get it back. Pre-pickup: Zoltan is a very professional and friendly tailor, making you feel very welcome and cared for. He operates his business with his wife, and is a very personable and seemingly old-fashioned tailor. This was my first time at a real tailor and I brought two suits; Zoltan addressed the faults of both suits, and even took the time to explain to me how he knew. He gave very good advice and stylistic opinions on which suit to get tailored for a more "modern" look, even considering what occasion I was wearing the suit for. He also appears to put your order on rush for no extra charge if you are reasonable about it (I told him that I would prefer it by next Sunday when I went on a Wednesday). He ultimately told me I should get my pants hemmed a little, shorten the waist, and lengthen the hips; for the jacket we decided on a little take-in. To be honest, I expected a higher cost for all of this, but was pleasantly surprised at the moderate price. I think most people would find him to be of on the higher end of tailors in terms of pricing, however. I'll try to remember to update this review after trying my suit on. I brought in four pairs of pants to be hemmed for the first time. I've never done it before, but I figured it was time to have trousers that don't drag on the floor. I brought in three pairs of slacks, and one pair of jeans. The jeans are awesome, and so are two of the pairs of slacks. Unfortunately, the first time I wore the third pair of slacks, something became unraveled. The hem had come undone, so suddenly my pants were much longer than intended. I brought them back in and the man was very considerate. He didn't question my story, asked me how quickly I needed them, and had them ready the next day. No charge, no hassle. I have been a loyal Mr and Mrs AET customer for over six years, but today they destroyed that. I am shocked at their behavior and recommend you look elsewhere for your alteration and drycleaning needs. They were both rude, disrespectful and argumentative. They altered and cleaned two garments for me, both of which smelled awful-- like the worst BO ever. I called the wife after returning home and discovering this. She agreed to reimburse me for the cleaning they did and for the cleaning done to get rid of the smell at another drycleaner. When I showed up today (with more garments to be altered) and requested my reimbursement, Zoltan refused to do so. His wife initially agreed that she had told me that on the phone, then when Zoltan fussed at her she began saying she didn't remember and would never have said that. They were loud, rude and not at all customer-service oriented from the moment I requested my refund (which was all of $27.50). I can't believe they would destroy a good relationship with a loyal customer so quickly over such a trivial amount and their error. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. If they haven't turned on you yet, they will. read more

This is the best looking tailor shop I have ever been to. I'm hoping to bring them other pieces that i need altered, to improve the rating, because I have faith that they can do a job well done. I took in a simple long skirt to be shortened. It was very long, roughly 16 inches too long with two layers of fabric. The tailor, who did not offer his name, had me try on my skirt. I clearly stated that the outside should be 2 inches from the floor and the inside 3 inches from the floor. He repeated this several times, confirming the numbers as he marked the skirt for me. I let him know I needed the skirt by the weekend, as I was wearing it in a performance. I was happy, I took my receipt and left. Saturday rolled around and I needed the skirt, but couldn't go pick it up myself. I had a friend go in for me. The cost was $28, which seemed a little expensive to me for a hem. Sadly when I put the skirt on for the concert, it was about 5 inches too long. Odd thing though, the inside layer was perfect. 3 inches from the floor as asked. I couldn't understand why that would be right and the outside so much longer. Didn't anyone look at it and think, hmmm that looks off? I had to wear the skirt safety pinned to my bra in 3 places to make it work. None of this actually made me upset, because I understand that mistakes happen. What got me a little bothered is when I went back in and asked to have it fixed. The tailor said, "Impossible, I measured it myself." He didn't want to believe me, so I tried the skirt on and physically showed him the problem. He still didn't seem to believe it, tried to blame it on my shoes, which were flats. Finally he pinned it and said he would have it done in 4 days. When I came back for the final pick up, I thought maybe I would get an apology, possibly a coupon or a discount. Something, anything. At least I got my skirt back and it was done correctly the second time. read more

I would not recommend this place unless you're willing to tolerate some serious annoyance. First I come around noon, and its closed during its normal business hours. When I return a few hours later, I find out that it will take two weeks to get a skirt and tube top taken in. I have never seen a tailor this slow in my entire life. I went in asking to have 3 shirts and 1 suit cleaned. One of the shirts required a button to be reattached. Needed the shirt for a wedding the following weekend. "No problem, no problem". I come back, pick up the clothing and ask "you guys remembered to fix the button, right"? "Oh yes of course! Absolutely" Ok I go to the wedding, put on the shirt, and low and behold....a safety pin is where the button should be. The button is gone (at least it was half attached when I dropped it off) and the ones that are left are all cracked or broken. All in all they broke about 8 buttons across two brand new shirts. You'd think I'd get an apology, complementary fixing, etc. Nope. None of the above. Totally lame. read more

Can't recommend this place enough! Picture this -- my (cough, 20th) high school reunion was coming up in just a few days. Decided the outfit I had picked out was just not right, so was doing some desperation shopping at Bay Street. Wound up buying a black jumpsuit at Forever 21 (yes I recognize the sad irony there :), but knew I'd have to get it tailored on top for it to work. Hoping for a miracle, I showed up at the tailor's soon after they opened. The tailor was very nice and quickly had the jumpsuit pinned to perfection, even recommending a tuck at the waist I hadn't thought of for a perfect fit. And he kindly agreed to turn the job around in time for my reunion. He called to let me know when my garment was ready. And when I tried it on I could not have been more pleased. It fit me perfectly! There's something to be said for buying low and getting it tailored just for you. I suppose it was a little pricey, but no more than I've paid at other professional tailors and well, well worth it. This review is 7 years late. I have been going to Zoltan and Pugi since I was an undergrad at Cal and followed them to over three new locations. I have booty (to say the least) which requires a good tailor to accentuate, lengthen, and highlight. Zoltan and Pugi have made 95% of their expected completion date and they helped my husband out when he needed a shirt hemmed last-minute before our wedding. Zoltan is honest and will tell you when you should take in something, hem it, or leave it alone. He's not just after your money but will advice you on what is best for you regarding the fabric, your body, and your expectations. They have more than enough work so you will get nothing but a good assessment. My husband loves Zoltan after he advised him on a wedding suit and we both only hope that they never leave the Bay. I tell all women, especially curvy ones, to find a great tailor and stick with them. read more

I made a yelp account just to review this tailoring place. I'll start off by saying UGH! I chose to check out this place out of three tailoring places I found on yelp (Uni Tailor, Jim the Tailor and Berkeley Cuts and Sewing). Well bad decision on my part. I went in at 5:35pm and Zoltan was fitting someone so he apologized and told me to come back in an hour and said that he'll still be there. So I had no problem with that since he was busy. I came back at 6:25 (50 minutes later) and his shop had its close sign out... so I peeked my head in and he recognized me and said he'll see if he can help me even though he was closed. I said I needed to get a dress fitted and he said what kind of dress and I said a halloween dress (which is like any other dress you can find at wetseal except that it's for halloween!) and he said sorry I don't do dresses for halloween! Seriously??? What if I had said the dress was for a wedding? It actually could be worn to a wedding! Anyways, I was very disappointed! I felt like he was rushing me out of his door. My main annoyance with him was that he told me to come back and when i did come back he just shooed me away. I am very sad =( read more

they do an OK job, but the customer treatment is way below the claimed "Advanced European Tailoring". I had a pair of bubble pants in which the elastic in the waist needed to be shortened so that the pants do not fall off. It took three rounds or resubmission of those pants, with charges applied in each round. I asked several times to replace the elastic, but they kept taking in the fabric instead of opening the seam and installing a new elastic. Finally, I gave up; another tailor explained to me that removing a seam on the waist is a tedious job nobody wants to do. The total of my charges back and forth was around $36 !, waisted. If they do not want to do certain job, why not to say it upfront. read more

This place is good if you need something simple like hemming your pants but not so good if what you want is a bit complicated. I had my jeans hemmed here and was happy with the results. I came back with a dress that needed fixing around the collar. The guy said that the job is difficult and time-consuming, meaning I should have been clued in that they couldn't do the job. Since I was happy with the hemming, I thought they'd do an OK job with my dress's collar and paid quite a bit for it since the guy said it'd take a long time. The collar was botched. I complained and the guy agreed to fix it. The fixing messed up the dress further and nothing can be done about it since the fabric has been cut. read more

I'm sure Zoltan is fine with simple alterations but I had such a disappointing experience here. I took a pair of wide leg pants in that I bought while traveling (so I can't find them again) to have the legs taken in. Shouldn't have been that complicated of an alteration. When I went back to pick them up, they looked terrible....they had been shortened more than I had asked for, and the fabric was ballooning out in two triangles next to my hips....it looked ridiculous and the error was obvious even when the pants were just on the hanger. I took them back in to be fixed and he saw the problem immediately and told me I could come back to pick them up the following week. When I went back a few days after they were supposed to be ready, they still weren't done - he said he had held them in his hand that day, and it would be really helpful to him if I could come back later. Ok....but if he knew the pants weren't done by the date he said they would be, he could have made a courtesy call to let me know before I drove well out of my way to pick them up. When I finally got the pants back, they were not even fixed...the same problem was still very visibly there, just less exaggerated than before. I ended up fixing them myself. I hate to leave a negative review for such a nice guy who obviously does good work for some people, but I went here because of all the great Yelp reviews, and I totally regret it. Bottom line - his shop made the worst sewing mistakes I've ever seen a tailor make and I cannot believe he just didn't notice. Plus I had to drive there 3 separate times and it was a hassle. I want my original pants back. :( read more
