I wasn't sure what to expect coming in, as I don't spend too much time getting my clothes tailored. I was quickly instructed to change and step up to the platform for the measuring magic. There was some confusion due to their relocation, and change in hours of operation. The confusion aside, they were easy t work with and willing to make the efforts to make pickups work (back to the "hours of operation" change). I needed to get some pants altered, although not urgent by any means. My pants were a bit baggy and the length was quite long. This was my first time getting alterations done, and I did a lot of research and went with Advanced European Tailoring. Because it was my first time, I was a bit nervous. However, Zoltan was really knowledgable, caring, and detailed. The work his team does is superb! The pants turned out exactly how I envisioned them. Zoltan was also very communicative and worked with me on when I could come in to pick up my pants. I highly recommend going here for any alterations you need. Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with this business. I went in for very simple work on two pairs of pants. I wanted them shortened by a couple of inches. I spent over $200 on the tailoring job. A few months later as I wore one of the pants, the leg unraveled from the inside on one of them. I called Zoltan and left a message explaining what occurred and that I would appreciate him fixing the unraveling pant leg free of charge. He never returned my call. That was a month ago. read more

I came here for the first time today and I was very impressed by the service. I first called the store to ask if they were available to tailor my work blazer and the man on the phone was very polite and helpful. I came in person and he was very attentive and knowledgable. He suggested me things that would work and wouldn't work and also if certain alterations I wanted would look bad. He was very honest about everything and seemed to know how every part of the clothing should fit. Three garments altered, two fell apart the first time I wore them. It was very expensive for very rushed work, and it was done much later than promised. Skirt hem and shortened dress sleeve both had problems. I will have to pay someone else to fix the work. I've never paid so much for tailoring, nor gotten such poor quality work back. I brought a pair of jeans to be hemmed. The guy took less than a minute in taking the measurements after I tried them on and sure enough they are now way too short and can't wear. $200 jeans ruined in an instant. Reason for visit: Wedding dress alterations Visit date: April 2016 First time? Yes. Zultan does it all! The Hubs has been here a couple of times now to get his dress shirts fitted. Every time has been successful. So when it came time to alter my wedding dress I knew I had to bring it to Zultan; no questions. I didn't give him much time (a week!) but if anyone could pull this off it would be Zultan. The dress itself was fairly simple -- a foot off the layered skirt area; the bodice fit snug already. I also had a dress topper that needed to be taken in. Apparently, I came during a crazy busy time (prom season) so they were already swamped, but they still took on my project. The fitting went smoothly and it was awesome to see Zultan work his magic placing pins and making sure my train would grace the floor just so. When I returned the following week my ensemble was perfect. Tailored clothing really is the way to go! read more

Zoltan is great. Some of my older clothes had been getting pretty worn...busted zippers, missing buttons, a giant split seam along a pair of suit pants from carrying two cell phones in a suit pocket...guess these suits were not built for the modern two cell phone having business guy. Zoltan took care of all of the above with aplomb, did a great repair job. He also does dry cleaning, and a great job of it at that. Best of all is that he triages things. I brought in a really nice pair of suit pants that had a rip from a suture needle (long story here). He took a look and said that my best bet was to take it elsewhere for a reweave. I appreciate that he drew the line and made an appropriate referral when it was something that he thought could be better handled elsewhere. The person he sent me to do it a nice job, a very good repair that is hard to see unless you really look. No complaints from me; this is my go to place for any clothing repairs now! read more

A wonderful experience in every way! I recently had some of my jeans brought in at the waist here because I have yet to find a brand that affordably caters to my petite frame. This was my first experience getting pants tailored, and after seeing Zoltan's work firsthand, I cannot believe how far from properly-fitted my clothes were previously; I've never had a pair of jeans fit me as perfectly as the ones tailored here--and I cannot believe I waited this long to get it done. So, if you're on the fence about whether those pants ~really~ fit, just go in because Zoltan will not disappoint. Some details for those who need more convincing: Timing: I came in, it took less than 10 minutes to get four pairs of jeans pinned, and Zoltan was so pleasant the whole time. Since I wasn't in a rush, we scheduled my pickup for a week later (even though he offered to have them done sooner if needed). The pickup took less than 5 minutes and they were ready exactly when they said they'd be. Price: $36/pair of jeans to be brought in at the waist, which, in my opinion, is really good for the services and their quality. If I ever need more jeans tailored in the future, I have no doubt I'll head straight for Advanced European Tailoring. read more

My partner received a beautiful tux from a friend who was much taller and wider. We brought it here to be altered and they did a wonderful job! The attention to detail was impressive. They saved all the special detailing on the jacket sleeve cuffs by shortening from the top instead of the bottom. They slimmed the whole jacket, not only the waist. It doesn't look altered - it looks like it was custom made. Great job! read more

Did good work, but $44 is pretty expensive for cuffs and sleeve length, and (as I'll explain below) their reliability and customer service doesn't really meet what I'd call minimal professionalism. I went in on a Friday saying I needed it by Monday night, but since they're closed Mondays that meant by Saturday afternoon (24hr turnaround). Sure, they said. I'll come by as late as possible just in case, I said. They called me at 3pm the next day and left a message telling me it was ready, which O didn't answer because I was on BART headed over there to do so. I get there 3.45, 15 minutes before closing time, and they're already closed. Call the number on the receipt, a full answering machine. Wait around 10 minutes, no dice. Screwed. Went away on business trip without my suit I bought specifically for the occasion. Then it gets weird. The next saturday, I show up earlier, at 3pm, anticipating that maybe they like to close early sometimes. Repeat: call, no answer, wait, no one comes back. Week later, I go on a Friday at 12.05PM-- same shit. Do I have the worst luck in the world, or do they just disappear for 15 minutes at a time throughout their posted open hours? Even if I just happened to be there the three times they decided to be flakey, that's still three times they were flakey in one month. And here's the 1-star part. I went in (now a month after they promised me next-day service) and told them all this, they called me a liar to my face, said what had happened to me was categorically impossible. Funny, my watch must be set wrong or something. "10% discount is the most I can do, even though I don't know how that could have happened and it doesn't sound possible" (Verbatim). Yup. read more

If you're following my reviews, you'll know that I had to get my son a suit, and that someone had suggested the Goodwill into which the Hillsborough community throws their hardly-worn expensive clothes. I got a great deal, and took it to Zoltan here for alterations. To his credit, he said he could do the work, but it was going to involve basically re-building the beautiful Italian suit, and for the money we could do better shopping the sales. Although we had a hard time finding something cheaper than what he would have charged us, I really appreciated his honesty. While I was there (twice), I had the opportunity to see him in action, and see the quality of his service. Garments looked beautiful, his measurement-taking was very professional, and there is also an eco-friendly dry-cleaning service available. I'll be back. read more

Zoli and Pugi are more than the best. They always do work of the highest quality. The BEST thing however, is that they will hem your jeans properly, by sewing the original hems back on after shortening. This is the ONLY way one should wear jeans. Any other hemming looks awful, and leaving them to drag is just plain low class. With the latest styles like sevens and citizens being far too long for your average female leg, take your jeans here to be hemmed perfectly and in a timely manner. Plus Zoli and Pugi are very nice and will never do anything tacky to your clothes. read more

They do good work here and are, for the most part, pretty friendly. HOWEVER, they misplaced one of my nice shirts and tried to give me somebody else's shirt. When I told them that this was not my shirt the guy asked me "if I was sure"--- UH yeah I'm sure, ya nim rod! They found my shirt later that day and gave me a call. I went back in a few days later to get the shirt and they still wanted me to pay the 1.25! I said that it should be comp'd, and the guy gave me a HUGE attitude. I understand if you are going to be some what of a cheap skate, but hello I have to take an extra 20 to 30 minutes out of my day to make up for these peoples' mistake so I am not too keen on having to pay money on top of that! Overall, the service is not good and is overpriced even though they may do good work. read more

This place is seriously legit: I'm a guy that can't sow to save his life, but who's 5'6 height means that almost every pair of jeans purchased must be hemmed accordingly. After some rotten experiments of my own to resolve this dilemma, I said "let someone else do it," and took my pants to Advanced Euro. At only eight bones a-pop to hem the length on a pair of jeans, now I'm looking good with cash to spare. Plus, their REAL quick, REAL friendly service meant that after buying pants, I felt the instant gratification that most folks experience after coming up on some great new wears - something I hadn't gotten in quite a while. It's always a great thing to be able to salvage those cute pair of pants you've always wanted to wear but were too long, or that great skirt, which you never wore because it was slightly too loose and no longer flattering... or too big, or too something.... and then they collect dust and take up space in your closet. You know what I'm talking about. I brought a couple pairs of pants and skirts here the other week for some alterations.... I am impressed. The lines are clean and the fitting is just right. After all the horror stories I've heard about bad tailors... this encounter with a good tailor makes me want to stick with this one for a while. ok, so, i would love to give this place 6 stars for tailoring and mending. As for dry cleaning they get 2 stars. The hems on my jeans always look authentic, even if i just get the "regular" hem (instead of "original" hem). They are so quick and always get your tailoring done by the date you ask. Also they will mend tears in your jeans and you will never know they even had a hole. Seriously, they do such a great job. And they are SO nice. Dry cleaning is another story, they contract out and nothing EVER comes back on time. I always had one or two missing items. They did a quality job of cleaning, but it is just too unreliable. Go to CAL Cleaners on telegraph for a no fail cleaning job that gets your stuff back super quick. I think these guys changed location and are somewhere down Shattuck now, may want to check on that. read more

I'm writing my first yelp review ever to express my disappointment with AET. My sister's getting married in August in Berkeley and since I live in DC, coordinating things like bridesmaid dress alterations have been a real pain. I called AET three times to confirm that I would be able to come in and have my dress back before returning to the east coast (a two week window), and each time I was informed it would be no problem whatsoever and everyone was quite friendly. When I called the night before to confirm yet again, Zoltan told me it would be no problem to also hem my sister's wedding gown, and so she took off work and we went to AET about 14 hours after I last called. Upon arrival, Zoltan told me that his wife had left suddenly, he was incredibly short staffed, and there was no way he could do either dress. While I appreciate his honestly, I find it difficult to believe he became so incredibly swamped in less than 24 hours after he had reassured me multiple times it would be no problem. Fortunately, he recommended Margene's on Grand Avenue, and she and Vicky have been incredibly professional and friendly (though they only do bridal/bridesmaid alterations). read more

I am so glad that they moved right downstairs from where I work. It is super convenient to pop in to get the sleeves shorted on my new blazers. As a petite sized lady, almost all of my things need to get tailored and it's important to find a good one. Zoltan gets you measured quickly and out on your way. Though it is a little pricey here, it is COMPLETELY WORTH IT. I've been to others tailors in Berkeley and though relatively cheap, I've also had good blazers ruined that way. Those tailors shortened my sleeves too much and told me it was impossible to do it any longer. Luckily, Zoltan doesn't give me that bs...he will let me know that the buttons are no longer functional, but the appearance will be kept intact. I don't need to tell Zoltan the correct length for my sleeves because he knows exactly what to do to make the outfit look good, and even better, a good fit for me. read more

This is by far the best tailor I've ever taken my clothes to. These garment magicians know how to deconstruct clothes only to reconstruct them to make fit better! These days, I find that I ask myself, "can Zoltan do anything to make this garment look better on me?" chances are, he can (if he can't, he will tell you). This was a Yelp find for me a few years back, and I have brought several pairs of pants here for hemming. I am always exceptionally happy with the end result. The pants are always exactly the right length and the hemming is very discreet-looking. The tailor told me that he now offers that service where they can retain the original hem of jeans. I decided to pass on it since his hem-jobs make my pants look better than those raggedy frayed bottoms that are there when you buy them. It's $10 for hemming on jeans, $18 if you want the original hem. Also, they definitely close at 6, not 6:30 like their old business card says. read more

My brother, who is far more stylish than I, gets his shirts tailored, and they look really good. He lives in Fresno and pays about $20 a shirt. So a couple of weeks ago, I took shirt in to be tailored at Advanced European Tailoring. A guy measured me, asked me about what I wanted, and pinned up the shirt. I think he was Dutch, so the "European" in the title is no lie. I picked up the shirt a few days later and it was perfect, just like my brother's! It cost $34, which is probably just because everything costs more here. Still, I wish it was cheaper. I don't think I can get all my shirts tailored yet. They don't charge for rush jobs, and their customer service is great. read more

Definitely my favorite cleaner in Berkeley. They are fast, meticulous, friendly and affordable. All the qualities you want from your cleaner. You can alter almost anything there and it's done to perfection. They hemmed my jeans the other day and the thread has a unique color, came out perfect! They can even make the end of your jeans look beat up if you want (but my suggestion, skip it: if you wear around, it probably will look beat up anytime soon). They really ask you for speficications, whether you want your stuff on the long side, the kind of fit that you're looking for, etc. A good tailor is something everyone should have, so do come here. I know it can be a little expensive sometimes, but this place is still affordable (if you're scared, call ahead to determine the price). And seriously, if people pay 200$ for seven jeans.... might as well get some of your other stuff altered... read more

Zoltan does great work! However, it's pricey. I brought in a chiffon bridesmaids dress to be taken in and shortened. It had four layers and an a-line drape on the front, and because of all that, it was $90. :/ Thus us the price of being a bridesmaid. They clearly deal with difficult-to-sew fabrics, and the hems looked lovely. However, he only took the dress in at the top team, and so it didn't fit snuggly enough to stay up and it kept slipping. I would've preferred he take the entire side in so it fit neatly in the waist as well. The good: local to my house, good work. The bad: pricey and didn't get what I expected. read more

This place is fabulous! I had gotten slacks tailored here and they were awesome so I decided to come back. The man who works/runs this shop is incredibly nice! He is so attentive and caring. I went in to get a dress shortened and he spent a good 30 minutes with me discussing the different lengths and offered me his advice. However, when I picked up the dress it was WAY TOO SHORT for me. I started to panic and went back to him the next day and he was soooooo nice about it - he took down the seam and gave me about an inch - inch and a half more material. I wore the dress to a professional awards luncheon and got so many compliments about it! It wasn't short, but not too long that it was inappropriate. What's even better about this place is that he didn't scold me and say something like "you were the one who wanted it that short!" Instead, he worked with me. I am also giving this place the full amount of stars because I came in on a Thursday panicked about the dress being too short and he was able to adjust it by the end of that SAME DAY - I mean, seriously, how amazing is he!!!!? The last few months I've been really upgrading my sartorial and fashion sense, and part and parcel to this has been looking for the right tailor. I have rather specific things I need done to most of my clothes (I have pretty broad shoulders, for example, but not that long of arms) and have been looking not just for a tailor who will alter my clothes, but for a collaborator--a tailor I can talk to and who will respect what I want. I went to another tailor on San Pablo Ave who was completely dogmatic and traditional in what he wanted; when I told him what I was looking for, he actually had the gall to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about because I hadn't been a tailor for 30 years and I didn't know a thing about suits! My experience at Zoli's was the complete opposite. I was still looking for experience-based opinions--and Zoli had quite a few wonderful ones!--but I never once felt pressured into doing anything I didn't want. Zoli gave me good advice and good reasoning behind that advice, and the initial measuring was pleasant as all get-out. And he's just such a nice guy! I was really happy with his work on shortening the sleeves of my rather expensive sport coat and hemming my two pairs of jeans. The $9 price for each of the jeans was wonderful, and I got a lot of bang for my buck because, notwithstanding my being a novice at this, I think we've all seen bad hem jobs before; Zoli's, however, was flawless. The sport coat was also splendidly done and is now probably my favorite thing to wear. I will definitely keep doing business here and am so glad to have finally found the right tailor for me. Zoli and co. are moving down a couple of blocks to Addison Street, next to Scandinavian Designs, I believe next month. Oh, and Zoli is a new dad, so yay for him! read more
