Not being used to these contacts, which are very small - about 1/4th inch or less, that fit over the pupil of the eye and are fragile and tricky to put in, wear and take out. It didn't take me long before I broke one. Returning to B&P I learned it would take over 2 weeks to get a replacement lens unless I wanted to get an appointment with their specialist in Miami, where I'd rather not ask my wife to drive me to unless death was imminent. B&P gave me the prescription to try to find my own source, but no one could handle these kind of lenses as they are custom made for each particular eye, and could only be ordered directly by a doctor. My wife found Advanced Eyecare Specialists of West Palm Beach in the phone book, and I saw Dr. Jasper. She knew all about these kind of lenses and ordered the one I needed from my prescription, and had it for me in two days. In the months that followed she examined my eyes again for proper fit, to see if she couldn't get something for me that was less uncomfortable. I was pleased to see that Advanced Eyecare has all the modern instrumentation they have and used on me at B&P, and even one I didn't see there that took a video of the contact lens in my right eye (the worst) that showed how it fit and moved over the pupil. She took more measurements and ordered a new lens for me, which she let me try out for a week, then suggested we go for an even smaller lens, which she had me try, and found it was much easier to wear (although you do not want to drop one of them or you'll never find it again). Thanks to her I now and 20-20 corrected vision in both eyes and passed my visual eye exam to renew my driver's license. I have cancelled a follow up appointment with B&P because Dr. Jasper can do everything for me that they do, except surgery. As B&P is very much in demand and visited by patients from all over the state and even country, there is always a long wait to see your doctor after the assistants perform their tests - four to five hours - and they are much further away from my home down the interstate than Dr. Jasper, a couple miles north in WPB. I was born with serious eye problems and have seen many eye doctors over the years (I'm 80). They all charge you for prescriptions, and why shouldn't they? There is time and work that goes into the eye test. Dr. Jasper's fee is comparable to every one else I've seen in recent years, including Bascom and Palmer, who charged $50. The special contacts cost $200 each, which is also the same thing B&P charges. Dr. Jasper is a very fine doctor and lady, and I recommend her to anyone. I will absolutely keep going to her for my exams and eye wear, and my wife who wants to see how her eyes are doing after cancer and chemo is going to make and appointment with Dr. Jasper, and happily pay for her prescription if she chooses to get her glasses elsewhere.

However, the biggest issue is that they become extremely unhelpful once they realize that you are not going to buy glasses or contacts from them. It was like pulling teeth just to get them to provide me with a copy of my prescription so I could buy glasses elsewhere and once they provided me with my prescription, it lacked my PD measurement which is key for a purchase. I asked them to include that measurement and they insisted that it would be an ADDITONAL $35 for them to include on my prescription...clearly a scam for them to push you to buy glasses from them. I've been to 4-5 optometrists before and never has anyone left that off the prescription. DO NOT GO TO DR JASPER. THERE ARE PLENTY OF HIGHLY REGARDED AND HONEST OPTOMETRISTS IN THE PALM BEACH AREA THAT CARE ABOUT YOUR EYES AND NOT JUST YOUR MONEY.

Imagine my horror when I had to transition into glasses because the long term use of contacts wasn't conducive to my allergies nor the worsened condition of my eyesight post infection. She was compassionate and sensitive to my needs and it really made a huge difference during this ordeal. Fast forward to me transitioning into glasses, the gentleman who fitted and assisted me with pick-up was both friendly and helpful. The glasses didn't go well for me because I'm a runner and felt like I was running in a fishbowl when I ventured out. In the end, I opted for LASIK surgery as I was fortunate enough to be a candidate. Although I'm no longer wearing contacts nor glasses, I still visit for my annual exam and my daughter is still a regular patient. America's Best offers great customer service and is extremely affordable. More important, I couldn't imagine seeing anyone other than Dr. B (I can't recall her last name but I'm almost certain it starts with a B and she knows who she is) after having such a positive experience during one of the worst health ordeals I've experienced. Disclaimer: I know people go through much worse so I'm truly blessed. Be sure to join the eye club and take advantage of the 3 years of exams for what I believe is a $99 fee. The club also provides healthy discounts on contacts, glasses and accessories such as cases. Finally, one can create a profile and schedule appointments for the entire family online. As a millennial who still relies on friendly reminders from my mother to make sure I'm taking care of myself, I booked an eye exam with For Eyes thinking I'd get a quick exam, a contact lens prescription for the year, and be good until the following year. Boy was I in for a surprise. I left For Eyes with $79 spent and a bad contact prescription I could barely see out of while driving home. When I called for a follow-up to fix the prescription, I was given an appointment further out than I preferred, especially since I was out of contacts and only had one ill-fitting pair. The next day at work I began to feel irritation in my right eye, removed my contact for relief, and the irritation persisted. I knew MedExpress or a walk-in clinic wouldn't help, so at 7 a.m. Wednesday I logged into my insurance platform to find a more well-versed eye care facility. Mittleman Eye came up in my search, and by 8 a.m. I was sitting in their office prepared to figure out what was going on. The facility is beautiful, well staffed, and very clean. I was greeted by friendly employees and felt like my issue was handled with thought and care. My appointment wasn't rushed, and the doctors and nurses quickly identified my issue and offered solutions to address my eye pain. I was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer in my right eye, and the doctors were very informative about what treatment would look like over the next few days and they started me on antibiotic drops. Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, I realized my prescriptions still hadn't been filled. After calling the pharmacy, I learned they weren't processing it because the number of doses per day was missing. I called the emergency after-hours line, worried I wouldn't be able to continue antibiotics until after work the next day. Not only did a doctor call me back within the hour (8 p.m.), he called Publix pharmacy directly, and they had my prescription ready in 10 minutes! Just in time for me to pick it up before closing and get a few rounds of drops in before bed. My follow up appointment today was scheduled for 2:30pm. I was seen by the doctor around 3:50pm. An excruciating wait but I was notified that they were behind when I was checked in. However, when I was seen I experienced the same informative, kind and friendly service as before. Although having a corneal ulcer is one of the worst imaginable experiences, Mittleman Eye has handled me with so much care. I am incredibly grateful I found them. Once my eye has healed, I fully intend to remain a patient and receive my ongoing eye care here.
