So CAUTION, if you get any type of plank flooring, expect it to sound like they have lined the floor with sand or plastic bags when you walk around, because according to Flooring America, that is NORMAL??? I'm so bummed we spent so much money on flooring and just as much on installation for an install that is sub par and no one at the company cares. It is like pulling teeth trying to get them to respond and we have been very patient. This has been ongoing for months. Old To Gold was responsive and quick with the quote and although their cost was higher than other companies we talked to, they could get our job done much quicker, which was great as we wanted to get the floors done before we moved everything in. Other companies were quoting us a month out or longer! The job itself was quick and everything went well. There were a few dark spots on the floor that they were able to sand out and finish nicely. We also had them interlace some new planks in a spot where the floors had been removed and never put back. Finally, we also paid them to sink and cover the nailheads that were exposed when we ripped up the carpet. We were able to cut some of the costs by removing the carpet and tack strips ourselves. After they finished the job I did notice a few drips of finish that had hardened on some of our newly painted trim and our side door, which was not a big deal but some might have been more upset about that. Everyone I spoke with at Old To Gold including the manager and the guys who came to our house was professional and polite.

Unless you want to be frustrated and finish the job yourself after spending a lot of money, avoid this company. The selection of products is good and the quality of the granite stone is great. The service, installation, and finishing were poor. We were told installation would be two weeks after the design was submitted and the downpayment paid. Five weeks later, the installation was scheduled. No call, no show! One day off from work burned. Another week goes by after making a few calls and sending emails. Finally, a call out of the blue to install on that day. But only part of the countertops because the "guys at the shop did not polish the bottom of the island. Another week and a half and the island is brought to the house but not the rest of the countertops or the backsplash. After another week, another call out of the blue to come and do the installation. Another excuse; the owner says he left the keys to the truck at home. Another day off work burned! A couple of days later, a call out of the blue asking if anyone would be home for the installation. Finally, the last countertop and backsplash are to be installed. The backsplash sections are not even but supposedly, the wall is not straight so it's the best that can be done. The rounded corners are jagged but "if I use any type of diamond drill, it can be smoothed out." When I started to install the kitchen hardware, the drilled granite access holes are too small, the sink holes do not align with the drilled granite access holes, and the cut-outs for the electrical outlets and boxes are not large enough for the screws to align with the electrical boxes. At this point, the final payment had been submitted and there is no more contact. I texted, emailed, called, and spoke to a person in the office, and no returned phone calls, emails, or text messages. After two weeks, of waiting I am doing the finishing and polishing myself. My wife and I went to Granite Direct fr a piece of granite for a bathroom vanity and after dealing…read morewith Russ we had it all laid out for with Russ, we had the stone marked out for where we wanted it cut so all of the veins would match (keep this part in mind for later). We then spent the next month and a half finding tile colored to match the piece of stone we chose. We finally got the bathroom to the point where we could have the top set and contacted Russ to make the appointment to have them come out and template. The appointment was set for a Thursday, the people showed up on Tuesday. We contacted the store (Russ again) and said it must have been a mix-up due to similar names on the calendar, the appointment for Thursday was still set. My wife took a four day weekend (Thursday and Friday) as long as they were set to come out on Thursday she may as well get some other things done that Friday. They never showed up. Contacted the store again, "They'll definitely be there tomorrow." (Friday) Again... never showed up. Now bear in mind, we understand that a single bathroom vanity isn't a big dollar job but, it's important to US. Saturday we went and talked to Russ (again), and he said he was having issues with his installers (not our problem but, it's turning into our problem) so he'd show up and do it himself, which he did that following Monday after hours. Asked him approximately when the stone would be ready for install and he said he had a huge job coming up and he wanted to get it done before then so, about a week and a half. Got the call that the stone was ready and made the appointment to have it installed, two weeks after the template was measured on a Friday. Installer showed up at the agreed upon time WITHOUT the backsplash. He said he would get the situation resolved and contact us first thing Monday morning. Monday morning came and went and I heard nothing, as I work about a mile down the road, I drove up to the store during my lunch hour to find out why it is so difficult to get a simple vanity installed in a timely manner and wound up being berated by Russ in front of two other employees. I was told "I'm tired of being yelled at over this job..." (pretty sure I hadn't yelled at him once, and he'd definitely know about that) "...we can just come pull the granite and be done with it." Now, please realize, if this had been for me personally, I would have said "Let's go, I'll follow you. Just give me back the money I've already paid you." and I would have found another source for a countertop. But, it's for my wife, and one does not simply toss a month and a half of tile searching with your wife in order to make things easy. It's Wednesday morning now, my wife sends me a picture of the countertop via text(Remember what I asked you to keep in the back of your mind for later?), I look at the picture and the countertop is backwards. The part that we had drawn pictures of, and spent 45 minutes discussing the layout of the grain in relation to the splash... all wrong. Long story short. Find someone who will appreciate your business for what it is, big or small. It's money you earned and want to pay for a service that's deserving. Granite Direct in Kentwood (Grand Rapids), Michigan is Definitely not deserving.

She was amazing, as she spent time helping me pick out the perfect color. I normally get 2 or 3 estimates for house projects, but after meeting with Megan, I didn't feel a need for another estimate. Jeff was my installer and he was everything a great installer should be. He was knowledgeable, kind and personable. When people see my new cupboards & drawers, they compliment the beautiful cabinetry and how big and bright my kitchen looks. If you're looking into cabinet refacing definitely check out Kitchen by Katie's, as they are reasonable, provide quality products and great installation. I absolutely love my kitchen and Kitchens by Katie far exceeded my expectations!

I would strongly not recommend Kitchens by Katie for many reasons. I'm sharing my experience so…read morethat others have a much smoother remodel than I did. And there are a few things that were misleading, as well as some other things that I should have vetted myself but didn't. First, there are things they DON'T do: they don't do soft close drawers, which is a shame because that really elevates the feel of a kitchen. They also don't remove old cabinets, you are responsible for that. They will tell you that Habitat for Humanity will come get it for free but that's not true, it's around $250.00. The workmanship: We were originally going to reface our cabinets in order to save the countertops from being destroyed, but decided to go with new because another contractor I know (not affiliated with Kitchens by Katie) was able to remove the countertops for the new cabinets. I should have canceled this entire job, but I didn't want to leave the owner Mike at KbyK in a lurch. I regret that decision. Anyways, the installation: No protective plastic was draped around my kitchen so my entire house was filled with dust, which was a nightmare. The install was fine, but there are things that are part of their design that I know many customers wouldn't like. I didn't discover this until the job was completed. There are screw holes that show in the base of all my lowers cabinets, the drawer sides are unfinished looking complete with pencil marks and splintered wood pieces. The hole gaps for the pipes were not custom fitted so things would fall through the base of the cabinet. I pointed this out and their "fix" was filling it with yellow foam which overflowed and shows when you open the cabinets. Overall these cabinets are fine, but they don't feel finished and don't feel elevated in quality. As for the owner, i say proceed with caution. Mike has a condescending demeanor, and I have seen other reviews where people noted this. I had a meeting with his team after the job was completed to address the issues and he had a very difficult time keeping his composure. My husband even asked him to stop speaking poorly to me. Bottom line, if you are looking to remodel a kitchen, hire a contractor that can do all the other things, like disconnect and reconnect the water lines, etc. They aren't required to reinstall your microwave, but they did that for me at least. It's important to think about all these little things. I would say if you have a completely new build and are starting the full build-out of a kitchen, then MAYBE Kitchens by Katie could be part of this mix, but why not just hire a contractor that does it all? If you need refacing, then possibly K by K, but you run the risk of destruction of backsplash and countertops (which happened to me, and Mike attempted to fix, but with many flaws. I'm just moving on from this mess). Please consider everything here before hiring. I regret this decision. My contractor is coming back in to install soft close drawers, by the way. Mike quoted me $100.00 per drawer at 15 drawers at a post-project meeting. My contractor is only charging me $400.00 total to fix. Please, please learn from my mistakes. ***in response to Mikes response: this is not a smear campaign, I was simply stating what happened. The photos I provided speak for themselves, and I did not say anything that was untrue. No plastic was used to protect my house from dust, that is vastly different from your perspective. I do understand that dust can fly, but John cut the tiles from the wall with a saw, and with no plastic up, dust was a nightmare. I was very clear through text with Megan that I didn't feel like rehashing this project and didn't want to talk unless compensation was part of the discussion. She chose to call me still, and provided no further resolution. I did ask for soft close drawers, you told me you only did that for doors not drawers. John told me via text you didn't do them because you can't provide a warranty. I provided photos already, the public can decide for themselves. Please do better by your customers.
