Dr Tarlow did a meniscal debridement of my right knee around 4/2014 and it has been great for the past 8 years. Just now starting to get clicking and slight pain again but other joints are getting worn as well. Definitely would recommend Dr Tarlow if you're having knee issues. read more

Stefan Tarlow performed my ACL replacement in 2010. He was recommended by a friend who said his bedside manner might put some people off but he did a great job. He performed the surgery. He did a phenomenal job. Absolutely minimal scarring and no lingering pain years later. I tore the ACL in my other leg in 2016, had forgotten Stefan's name or contact info and didn't go back to my friend out of embarrassment. I went to someone else that I found through my insurance company. He was so much worse that I would end up giving him a '2' in comparison If I didn't know how good it could be with Stefan I might have given the new guy a 4. Massive scar that split and then it got infected and he didn't treat it or reconnect it. Worse still is that knee is more likely to give me pain during exercise. I was diagnosed with Osteochondritis Dissecans of my knee in high school (basically damage to a blood vessel that caused dead bone). I had excruciating pain in my knee when I would lift it in a certain position and it was constantly achy and throbbing. The ortho doctor I went to recommended that I see ONLY Tarlow for the surgery I would need. Tarlow did a scope with two tiny incisions. I couldn't put weight on it for 2-3 months and I saw an amazing PT (recommended by Tarlow) regularly that really sped up my recovery. It's now been 6-7 years since I had the surgery. While my knee still hurts occasionally, especially when I put too much weight on it, it is for the most part completely back to normal. The terrible bone pain I was experiencing is completely gone and I've been able to resume all athletic activities without pain, although Tarlow recommended I don't do things that put too much weight on it. I have two very, very faint scope marks that people don't see now unless they're pointed out. He was a little intimidating, especially for my 16 year old self, but I would definitely recommend him and I have had other family members see him! read more

I definitely give Dr. Tarlow 5 stars and more! I dislocated my knee in December 2020. After 9 months trying to heal on my own with months of Physical Therapy at the advice of another orthopedic surgeon, I was still walking with a brace and had no knee stability. I consulted Dr. Tarlow and he recommended and performed surgery replacing my ACL and PCL. At 4 weeks post surgery, I am able to walk without a brace and ride a bike, both in the Physical Therapy setting, but definitely doing a million times better than I was same time last year, without surgery. Best knee doc I have ever had! Dr. Tarlow performed a partial knee replacement on my left knee April 2013. Was up the next day doing physical therapy. 1 week later I mowed the lawn. Three weeks out I was riding my bike and two months post operative I was playing golf. Thanks for giving me a new lease on life. Dr Stefan Tarlow is a good doctor and I appreciate the work he did on my knee. But I am now more than 80 hours of trying to pay my bills to his office and hospital. If you can pay the bill upfront, I recommend him, but if you will be doing any payments over time expect to manage each payment. Expect an office that will deposit checks without crediting them your account, send your bill to collections with no notification--even on the statement--that it is about to happen. I actually NEVER had a check credited to the account without multiple phone calls to the front office (I sent 6 checks!). What was Dr. Tarlow's response? "I am not a financial institution." My response, "No, but you should be able to at least credit payments to the account and alert me before you send it to collections." Great Doctor-Terrible Businessman. Disappointing. read more

Dr. Tarlow is a delight to work with. He is not in the business of pushing surgeries when they won't help, but not afraid to suggest surgery when he thinks it will help. I can't say enough about my experience with Dr. Tarlow. He was recommended to me after I had been unhappy with a couple of other knee surgeons. He performed a partial knee replacement on my left knee last month and I was back to work 8 days later! Things I really liked about him: He patiently answered my hundred questions at the pre-op & post-op appointments. He only does knees - no hips, no shoulders - just knees - and he does it very well! I had very little pain and my recovery has been incredibly easy (less pain than when I had previous surgeries to repair torn meniscus in both knees)! The surgery center was very personal and the anesthesiologist on Dr. Tarlow's "team" was amazing. I had always struggled post-anesthesia and told him about my experience. He said he would take care of it - and I didn't even have a headache afterwards! Dr. Tarlow personally returned my phone calls when I had questions after surgery. I am an administrator for a doctor's office and really appreciate the time and care that Dr. Tarlow provided. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone in need of knee care! My only negative comment would be that the post-op instructions were a bit confusing and could use some work... As a side note - I mentioned previous knee repairs and here are some details: The first one (Dr. Creasman) did an ok job on my left knee after I tore the miniscus - but the pain continued for months after the surgery. I did cortizone injections as well as ortho-visc injections with not much relief. I eventually consulted with Dr. Rockowitz who told me that Dr. Creasman never should have repaired the miniscus and what I really needed was a total knee replacement because of my arthritus. What?? I was so confused and upset - so I did nothing! A few months later I tore the meniscus in my other knee and had Dr. Rockowitz do the repair. A couple of weeks after surgery he needed to drain fluid off my knee and he used a large syringe that literally brought me to tears. He had told me I might feel a "poke"! OMG! He didn't seem to care that I was in pain and lectured me to hold still because he had a needle in my knee. I would never use these doctors again! read more

Cut and Run Surgeon. This irresponsible (kind words here) surgeon ruined my life. Little post care or instructions. Pawned me off right away to a PCP after clotting and kept telling him to up pain killers. Days later I had to ER it to find out I had bleeding into the knee joint (the photo is of being drained). This is very destructive to a joint. This should have never happened and certainly not letting it go for days. Over 5 years ago. I have permanent arthrofibrosis in the knee with chronic pain and restriction. The size will never be the same and neither is the firing pattern (movement). I am still working hard at trying to get back where I was. This was a 'simple' surgery. Don't get cut unless you have no other choice. And for the love of everything active and mobile, don't let Tarlow cut you. read more

Dr Tarlow has done miracles with my knee. I had the misfortune of being involved in a bad accident when I was 18. Doctors and therapist would just shake their heads after seeing my pictures and MRI. They'd say good luck, nothing we can do for you...through that process however I was eventually pointed in his direction. In a matter of minutes he was able assess what was going on and knew what the plan was to be. It was not fun! it was very painful! But it worked! Since then I've spoken to people from all around the country about my experiences. Saw Dr. Tarlow for the first time March 2016. All the people at the office were very friendly. I had knee replacement in August, on the east coast, and was still having some minor issues. Recently moved to Scottsdale and read positive reviews that led me to Dr Tarlow. He mentioned several options, going with the least invasive, a knee brace. The first day with the brace, was not sure if it was going to work. Painful. The following day, and now a week later, pain is gone and I'm walking three miles a day comfortably. He told me to give it a month and see how it goes. So far I am extremely pleased. My only regret is he didn't do my knee replacement. Highly recommend. read more

I had suffered many knee dislocations over a period of twenty years. I also have an autoimmune blood disorder. I had went to a few consultations to see what surgical options were available for me knowing that my knee would continue to dislocate and I would develop arthritis. One doctor was ready to realign bones and keep me in the hospital for multiple days. The risks and complications of that potential surgery kept me away from the idea of surgery for a year. My fiancé finally made me go out and seek other consultations. One doc wouldn't even consider me because of my platelet count. This time I did research and knew what I wanted. I then found Dr. Tarlow. He had a very conservative approach which is exactly what I wanted. He also had no fear of my platelet count. I also like the fact that he only focuses on knees.An Mpfl reconstruction was performed in June with no bleeding or complications. I went to 6 weeks of pt after healing for a few weeks and my knee cap is not going anywhere. Dr. Tarlow says that eventually I will be able to do things like ski, which I haven't been able to do in years. Dr. Tarlow said he hopes to not see me again (he wants no more knee injuries) but I would highly recommend him to others and am thankful for a surgeon with a conservative approach and no fear of low platelets. read more

This was the 4th surgery on my left knee. The first two (way back in the late 80's) were to remove cartilage damage. The next one was to replace a torn ACL. The ACL replacement back in 96 was a horrible experience. The Dr. pulled a ligament from the knee cap and used it to reconstruct the ACL. This lasted about 4 years when it tore again. I limped around for 8 years after that, not wanting to go thru the ACL surgery again. Well, over 8 years of limping the damage was so bad that I had to go to several Ortho surgeons. I had the injections and that lasted about a month and was quite painful. Several of the Ortho Docs did not seem that knowledgeable. and they just wanted to jump in and do the replacement. After visiting Dr. Tarlow, he seemed to know what he was doing and took the time to do a real analysis. He did the full replacement and it's great. Best choice I could've made. read more
