I then saw an orthopedic doctor, followed by 5 months of physical therapy and dry needling. I called Dr Reynolds on a Thursday and he was able to see me the next morning. I remember reading that he could see results in 2-3 visits and I was skeptical, but it was 3 visits. In the first visit I could tell a difference in range of motion and after 3 visits I had relief. Because my profession requires me to use the same patterns of movement I will probably need reoccurring work on my rotator cuff but I have been able to sleep through the night without my hands falling asleep. I have been able to increase my weight during my workouts and I have had little to no discomfort in my shoulder that I was experiencing pain in for almost 7 months. Dr Austin really knows what he is doing for sports injuries. I highly recommend.

My only deduction of one star for this review, had been the two greeters on the first floor by the elevators - both had been very rude / curt. My two visits had both been first thing in the morning and both times I had been the only one in the lobby. So, not sure why they were both miserable on two separate days!!?? Plus, I believe they are volunteers!?! Miserable people shouldn't be dealing with the general public - especially in a hospital setting where patients are typically in a lot of pain and their anxiety levels are generally elevated. If you read reviews for medical providers, you'll see a common theme: doctors were great, office…read morestaff was horrible. That was certainly the case here. I have nothing but good things to say about Drs. Gallagher, Amis, and Barron. But the office manager left such a bad taste in my mouth I'll likely seek care elsewhere if I need another visit. One benefit of insurance is not just that insurance often pays part of the bill, but it actually lowers the total cost of the bill, because of the "contracted rates" agreement between the insurer and doctor. Our insurance is weak and doesn't cover office visits, meaning we don't technically qualify for contracted rates, but all our other providers give us the contracted rates anyway (probably reasoning that if the doctor were willing to receive $x as payment from an insurer, they'd be willing to receive the same amount from us). However, the office manager at ATX Ortho has seemingly decided on her own that ATX Ortho won't give the contracted rates, and doesn't care that that makes ATX Ortho stand alone in that regard. The initial conversation about my wife's bill went something like this: - - - - - OFFICE MGR: Your insurance doesn't cover office visits, so you don't get the contracted rate. ME: I know our insurance doesn't cover office visits, but all our other providers give the contracted rates for office visits, even though office visits aren't covered there, either. OFFICE MGR: But your insurance doesn't cover office visits! (groan) I went round and round on this, all I could get out of her was "Your insurance doesn't cover office visits!" - - - - - Today I saw Dr. Amis for myself and explained the problem with my wife's bill, including how all our other providers give the contracted rates even though they don't have to, and showed him the EOB with the Total Charged vs. Repriced amounts ($393.50 vs. $292.05). He didn't really want to know all the details (which is normal, he wants to leave administration to office staff so he can practice medicine), but said he'd be happy to receive the $292.05 repriced amount and directed the receptionist to honor that rate. So I paid, and asked her to submit my own office visit through insurance the same way. Then after I got home, the office mgr. called and again railed at me that our insurance doesn't cover office visits and she wouldn't give us the contracted rates. I protested that Dr. Amis had said we could get those rates, and she said that was just for my wife. I said I was sure that Dr. Amis meant it to apply to my bill also. She countered that my wife was "lucky" to have gotten the contracted rate at ATX Ortho (at other offices, we don't need "luck" to get the contracted rate, they just give it to us), and that she talked to Dr. Amis and he said to not give the contracted rate. I think she either didn't actually talk to him, or she did and misled him, more on that later. I asked her: "To be clear, if ATX Ortho doesn't give the contracted rate, it will be alone among all our various doctors' offices for not giving that rate, is this really the way you want to handle it?" She said yes. Since the decision to not honor the contracted rates is so unusual, I asked her where that policy was coming from, from her, or from the practice owners? Because it really seemed like it was coming from her. She said she talked to both Drs. Amis and Gallagher and it was their decision. I asked, when you presented the information to them, did you explain that ALL OUR OTHER PROVIDERS GIVE US THE CONTRACTED RATES? She admitted that she did not. Bingo. So, the doctors, who are not versed in the intricacies of insurance/billing, understandably deferred to their administrative staff, but their staff misled them by not giving them the whole story. I do want to point out that the *other* office staff has always been nice and helpful (e.g., Amber).

Had my cortisone injection yesterday given by his PA Wendy. Wendy is amazing. She was so gentle I didn't feel it at all. If you find yourself in need of an orthopedic doctor you can't go wrong with Dr Welsh and staff. Definitely the best.

My insurer has sent that "form" (a letter) at least 5 times by fax, each time they say they have not received it. Obviously they do not want this case, but won't just tell me that.

The doctors were very personable, and took their time to diagnose my problems. However, when the proposed treatment plan was presented, I was told I was expected to pay upfront for the entire treatment plan. In my case, $4,500! This charge was despite my insurance (double coverage) being able and willing to pay 80%, with me being responsible to pay 20%. I was fine with paying my portion, but apparently this was an unacceptable plan for these doctors. Dr. Hernandez mentioned that she did not think my insurance would cover the proposed treatments. In order to reassure their payment, I researched all medical codes involved (provided by Dr. Hernandez) in my treatment plan with my insurance company, and had a representative from my insurance company call to verify my coverage. It should be noted, the insurance company's first attempt to contact them was apparently missed. In regards to the second attempt, the insurance representative reassured me that a message was left. The insurance company also informed them on how the doctors should issue the billing in order to ensure their payment. I performed this added step in order assist them, as they do not have a designated Biller to handle their billing and coding for procedures. Despite multiple (5+) calls from myself and the insurance company, both leaving messages and speaking to their front desk personnel to coordinate the scheduling of my treatment plan. I was told by the front desk personnel my messages would be delivered to the doctor, and they would contact me. They never returned any calls or otherwise communicated with me. I am uncertain for their disassociation with me, but it appears that anything less than 100% upfront payment is considered unacceptable.

After a horrible experience with another dr. at S&W, I refused to go the dr. again for a year. My…read morewife added me to her insurance, and I was able to go to Kings Daughter and fortunate enough to see Dr. Mattson. She restored my faith in doctors, and helped me tremendously. When I went in I had lost 50 lbs . (180-130lbs, 5'11") and it was painful even to drink water. My Dr. at S&W was an incompetent idiot and saw me as a commodity instead of a patient. Her only concern wasn't my health, but how much money she could make off of me. Dr. Mattson quickly realized I had GERD and put me on Nexium which immediately ended several years of pain. She discovered I had diabetes, high blood pressure and a few other problems, She also took me seriously and referred me to a neurologist who diagnosed me with early onset Parkinson's Disease. My previous doctor at S&W hadn't noticed any of those things, would not listen to me, didn't care and told me I just wanted drugs. I never imagined a doctor could change your life so much for the better or worse. I appreciate so much that doctor Mattson was there to help me improve my quality of life. Dr. Mattson is one of the most pleasant, down to earth doctors I've ever met. Occasionally I had to wait to see the doctor as she was running late, but that never bothered me because I knew that when it was my turn, I would have Dr. Mattson's full attention for as long as I needed it, too. This isn't a doctor that rushes in, gives you antibiotics or something and herds you back out in five minutes; this is a doctor who really cares and actually listens. I don't see dr. Mattson much anymore because she is nearly impossible to get in to see. Word has spread about how wonderful she is, and she is extremely busy. When I do get to see her, it always makes me happy just to see her friendly smile. Over the years, I have shared a lot of laughs and tears in her office, and I will always appreciate Dr. Mattson for not only being a great doctor; but also a great woman
