Update: I saw Dr. Contreras today, he is amazing, caring and took time to explain everything, i discussed my concern about office staff, and he will look into it. The staff consistently fails at their managerial responsibilities. There was no callback after I called several times regarding my referral, which was marked as urgent by Dr. Gupta. Every time I called, Jovani claimed they had already sent it for approval. I have severe head tremors, which cause severe neck pain, and I was recommended by Dr. to get an epidural injection. When I called the referral customer service, they told me they never received the referral. I had to send my husband to the office and have him stand there to ensure they faxed my referral. Jovani never followed up to see if it was approved. The back-and-forth took more than a month, with me calling the doctor's office only to find they were not truthful and no call back even-though they said they will call me back. They never took notes regarding my calls and concerns, so I had to explain the situation every time I called them. This caused me a great deal of stress. The person in charge of referrals Jovani at the doctor's office never called me with an update. This demonstrates such irresponsibility and a lack of service. I am very angry that they did not care how much pain I was in. I hope upper management look into all this negative reviews by other patients too, otherwise they will ruin Dr's. Reputation. Finally Shannon from Sharp referral customer service helped me by calling and follow up with Dr.office to make sure they fax my referral for approval. Thanks Shannon. Dr Gupta is the best for pain management around. He treats therapeutically with injections and helped me tremendously with my car accident a few years ago. I was recommended for three fusions and with his help did not have one!!!!! Be very leary when an orthopedic surgeon wants to go right into surgery a steroid injection / or series can fix that issue in most cases. I would highly recommend him for treatment and again they take Lien cases for an auto accident. read more

I have now been a patient of Dr. Gupta's for over 5 years. Before I met Dr. Gupta I consulted with 6 different surgeons, all recommending I have a four level cervical fusion and disc replacement due to my herniated discs and severely pinched nerve. I was in constant debilitating pain and had no life. I had also been treated by multiple pain management doctors who were useless. When I read about RFA (radio frequency ablation) and inquired about having it done along with steroid infections for my pain, all of the surgeons and pain management doctors indicated RFA would not help me. Do you know why? Because none of them did the RFA's or the type Dr. Gupta does and the surgeons wanted to score the big $$ with a life altering surgery and the pain management doctors did not want to lose me as a patient. I am so glad I did not take their advice. Thanks to Dr. Gupta the steroid injections and RFA's have changed my life allowing me to do activities and have fun again as my pain has tremendously improved. Without his help I would have been miserable having a life altering surgery that would have made my pain and life unmanageable. Absolutely does not care about you at all. After 2 appointments, I could not walk and he reluctantly filled my pain medication. Only he sent it to the wrong pharmacy and they were out. 3 days before a 3 day holiday weekend I asked him to send it to a specific pharmacy where it was in stock. He did not. I made no less than 16 calls to his office going into the holiday weekend and he still did not do it. Called the after hours line and they did not do it. Here I sit not able to walk on the last day of the holiday weekend in screaming pain still without meds. This guy does not give a darn about anyone. "Pain management, " my ass. If your appointment is set for a specific time and date expect to be seen an hour and a half later even though the signs on the wall say arrive 15 minutes prior or your appointment will be cancelled. Early or not you will be expected to wait over an hour and a half to be seen for your appointment. read more

I've spent 2 visits in his office he referred me to a friend doctor for eyelid reduction And they didn't even take my insurance then they said they were referring me to another doctor and 3 months later nobody called me or even told me anything. Very poor customer service and the doctor didn't do anything for Me except take my money for office visits not to mention the waste of gas I spent driving all the way to his office twice. No help at all. After contacting them they didn't even have the courtesy to call me they text me and told me over a text that I have to look elsewhere. One more time, I should read the reviews of a doctor before walking into their office. I had my first appointment in July and was excited at what he said he was going to do for me and my pain. I was suppose to have 2 referrals, one came about a week later the other 3 weeks later and the test appoint will not be available until October! Pain does not wait! I contacted this office twice before my next monthly appointment as in my problem site I had pulled a muscle and got a very nice gentlemen who did not work there but would let the "girls" know and took a message. I never received a call. On my second appointment, he was in a very pissy mood and asked where my medical records were. He told me I had to get them. This was the first I heard about this. I signed all the necessary forms for his office to get the records. I transferred to San Diego County in a long term treatment and I thought the specialty doctors here would honor my course of treatment and medication until they did their own evaluation. NOT. Staff consistently fails at basic managerial responsibilities. Never called back when they said they would. I was required to wait on hold on multiple occasions just to remind them to send documents that they already agreed to send weeks ago. This was common. They clearly did not maintain notes on my situation so I had to re-explain myself to the same person every phone call. These employees even had the audacity to complain to me about their job as I paid them for their service. I never saw Dr Gupta within an hour of my appointment time. I can't be sure if Thats his fault or his staff's. On my final visit, I was waiting an hour and a half with an IV in my arm when I overhear the staff take a call from Dr. Gupta. He tells them he's not going to be in for a few hours. I wait for the staff to tell me the news. After 15 minutes, no one comes to tell me that I won't be seen for many hours and I'm expected to wait quietly with an IV in my arm. I told them never to contact me again and left. 4 months later I start getting calls from another pain management office. At first, Dr Gupta seemed to care a great deal about my husband's severe back pain. My husband has had four nerve block procedures done in the last six months. The first, helped slightly. The second, did nothing. The third, did nothing. The fourth, was done on Monday, April 5th. My husband experienced no change in level of pain. By Sunday April, 11, my husband's pain intensity level was at a level 10. He asked me to take him to the ER. At the ER he was given Tardol, Valium, dilaudid, and Zofran. His pain level went down to a 4 and by the time he was discharged, the pain level was at a 5. The ER Dr prescribed Percocet and only enough to last a week. I called Dr Gupta's office first thing Monday April 12th. I spoke with one of his staff members. She told me she would get the message to Dr Gupta right away. I heard nothing. I called back Tuesday and left a message on their voicemail. Still nothing. I called and left another voicemail message Thursday, April 15th. Still nothing. Today is Friday, April 16th. I called and left another voicemail message this morning. I have called my husband's primary care physician and he has a phone appointment next week. I have no idea why my husband's severe pain is no longer Dr Gupta's concern. Tomorrow my husband will run out of the pain Rx from the hospital. I fully anticipate another ER visit this weekend. My husband is the main financial provider for our family with his handyman business. His pain level directly affects his ability to work. Dr Gupta is fully aware of this. I have been a patient for over 5 years. l I have only been satisfied with my care, appointments and billing. Yes sometimes you have to wait but that is normal with a Dr who is busy with patients. I was in so much pain it was hard to walk even with a cane. After some relief from nerve injections and a small time on pain medication I was referred to Spine surgeon. I don't rely on medications and have never been addicted to any! Dr spent time with me discussing my concerns and care injecting my input to my care plan. With severe pain there is no magic cure!! Damage is usually irreversible it is the quality of life without as much pain as possible we strive to live. I am 60+ years old and appreciate that he never played the old age card. He is compassionate and caring. I once had a problem with IV line and the next time Dr inserted it himself before my injection. This is a honest to god, no BS review. This Dr is the WORST dr I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. I am a Suboxone patient. If I don't take this medication everyday, I will go they withdraws. I was put on this med after I had a brain aneurysm that ruptured and once released from the hospital a month and a half later, my body was addicted to all the medications they gave me in ICU. I didn't want to pay cash for office visits anymore, so went to my PCP and got a referral to Dr. Gupta so I didn't have to spend $140 a month..... I live in Temecula, so the drive was 40 min long. My appt was at 2:15, so I get there about 1:50, giving time for new patient paperwork. First impression when walking into the office was it was small and congested, and they had two sofa recliners and a huge tv, which isn't bad, it just didn't seem professional at all to me. Then when I'm taken back in the room, the girl typing in my medical history and medications I'm on had on jeans, tennis shoes and a zip up hoodie and looked like she put in no effort to dress professional in a medical establishment...She dressed like she just left a high school campus. While she was typing in my medical history, Dr Gupta comes in and BRIEFLY talks to me and spends no more than 5 to at the MOST 8 minutes with me; no exaggeration. The whole time I talked, he never one time made eye contact with me, and continuously checked his emails, and was receiving text messages and responding to his texts and emails the whole time. He was so distracted and disconnected, that I kept pausing and forgetting what part of my medical history I was on..After the brief 5 to 8 min talk, he walked out of the room all of a sudden. I thought he briefly walked out to grab my chart or grab something. Not only did he leave my room with no explanation, HE LEFT THE OFFICE FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. He didn't even tell his staff he was leaving because they had no idea where he went either. It was super odd to say the least. After his staff figured out he left the building and where he went, the poorly dressed girl came back in and asked if I could come back TOMORROW because Dr Gupta left for the day. I WAS FLOORED!! They said he had to be a anesthesiologist in Del Mar and had to be there by 2, so I'm kinda lucky he "fit me in" that day. I waited two weeks for this appointment and why in the heck would you schedule me for a 2:15 visit, if you had to be in Del Mar at 2?? WAIT; IT GETS WAY BETTER.... So I told her, no I couldn't come back tomorrow, my husband has a endoscopy the next morning and I'm in the early stages of Suboxone withdraw NOW and what am I supposed to do now??? She said once they received my chart from the last suboxone Dr I was seeing, then he would have his RECEPTIONIST write me a script? (Don't you need to have a Dr's license to write prescriptions???) so now I'm waiting for my records and waiting for him to look over my chart via email. After 45 minutes of waiting for him, he calls the front desk receptionist and tells her he doesn't feel comfortable writing me a script until going over my medical records with me in person. He said he would be back here at 6:30pm. Remember, I live in Temecula. I had no choice to wait, because I was getting sick and didn't have anything and depended on this office visit for my monthly refill, and the rest of this week I have Dr appts I need to be at for my husband. I couldn't make it home and back because of traffic, so I had TO WAIT IN MY CAR IN THE PARKING LOT FOR TWO AND A HALF HOURS until he finished up his day and had time to deal with me. Then 6:30 rolls around and I meet back up with him. He tells me he doesn't feel comfortable taking me as a patient because of me being prescribed Advian (that I take as needed and I haven't refilled in three months)..By now, I'm pissed that I waisted my whole day on him for nothing, I feel like he was giving me every excuse possible not to have to deal with me throughly, and not feeling well. And to be treated like I was being treated was highly upsetting. I asked him for a couple strips to help me in the mean time, and he gave me a week supply until I get a different referral they my primary. This was the WORST EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD WITH ANY DR EVER. I felt so degraded and judged and played with, knowing I would have no choice but to wait because I was already slightly sick; he had no concern for my day, or my time. or me at all as a patient or a human being. It was all about him and his time, and he totally played the puppet master knowing the situation I was in. He's a horrible Dr, horrible human for thinking his time and his day is more important than mine, and has ZERO compassion for the real patients who never asked to be put on a medication that is so hard to stop taking. I am looking into finding a way to file a complaint with my medical group about referring patients to him so no one else goes they the same problems and gets no help from this man. I have seen Dr Gupta as a patient and he was professional and on time. I reas the other reviews and it appears to.me most of the complaints are patients that were seeking.medications which Dr Gupta is against opioids and prefers therapeutic treatments. I DO NOT RECOMMEND...(and even wouldn't to my worst enemy!) My "INITIAL OFFICE VISIT"....I LITERALLY waited for. 2 1/2hrs AFTER my appt time!! (Wait for it...) For the Dr to even SHOW UP at his office!!! Kept asking the girls at the front desk, what was going on?? They told me "he keeps telling us he is on his way...". SERIOUSLY?? After an hour I quit asking! When he did show up, the (to repeat) INITIAL CONSULTATION honestly lasted about 12min! About 6min of which, he was READING my extensive med history on his computer. When shown the report on an MRI that I had done 2days previous he said "this does me no good!" And ushered me out to his front desk girls again said refer her to have a "cervical & lumbar mri's" SO ....when I went to Valley Radiology(HIGHLY recommend) the order that they had sent over to them was only for ONE of the specified areas! --- Another 15min was spent trying to get the CORRECT referral, for both of the scans! As to complete them whe I was in the machine, and not have to have two separate ones. Ok, to skip forward from that..the follow-up visit was approx 6MIN! He read the scans, and basically said that "I did have so.e areas that were bad but not any more than a normal person". ***Definitely not true! When I asked for a second opinion, and went to a different Dr, he was VERY concerned from the same scans!! So, dr Gupta...have me a lidocaine balm to help ease the pain! Which I was willing to try...YET I NEVER RECEIVED IT??!! So at this point I was at a loss, and gave up! Approx a month later, I received a bill. They only billed my primary ins and NOT the secondary! (I gave them BOTH on my wonderful 1st visit. I then called and stated they needed to bill my secondary for the remainder. GOT A CALL BK THAT SAID, "THEY DONT EVEN HAVE EITHER ONE OF MY INS CARDS AND THAT I NEEDED THEM TO BILL." The absolute WORST doctor I have EVER MET! I saw him back in 2015. He put me on a ridiculous high dose of gabapentin and I had absolutely the worst withdrawal symptoms ever. He straight up refused to help me get off this medication. He did not give a shit at all about what I was going through or what I said. I have been a patient of dr guptas for approximately 3 years. When i first came to him i had chronic pain from arthritis and stenosis. Also acute pain from DDD. I wanted to get off oxycodon. After an admitted ly rocky start (having to wait for appts.) Staff making mistakes, Etc... Dr Gupta suggested a nerve block. I was hesitant but at that point was willing to try anything. It worked! I was mostly pain free for a year and got off the oxy. I dont know if people posting realize that dr gupta has two practices he runs. One is his pain management office the other his anesthesiologist practice. He is a busy doctor and yes sometimes you wait but in my experience he's worth it. When I expressed worry about whether My insurance would pay for a procedure he assured me that I would be taken care of like family. Dr Gupta is a good guy. He is very smart, up on all the latest pain management trends, and I have no complains about him as a doctor. He helped me get off oxy and exercising again. He was intrumental in turning my life from pain to being able to function and have a life without pain. In my book that makes him my hero read more

Worst Dr I have ever seen! He thinks it's perfectly ok to walk into the office one hour late with a drink cup. Then he starts seeing patients first into his office where he types and types! For what only to ask why we didn't do the procedure before. THEY were waiting for my authorization ! Then he takes me to a room to put a shot in my muscle the assistant applies lanocane with my jeans halfway down my butt and walks out and does not close the door! I'm laying there pants down and can hear him seeing someone else why I wait still pants down ! Then finally the assistant comes in and asks if I am ready. I answer of course yes, he does not even announce himself and gives me the shot no warning that I would feel pressure at all. By the way he asked me if I could help get records from a pain MGMT doc I have seen six years ago apparently that is the answer to my pain. He offers no pain medication at all. Absolutely the most unprofessional doctor and staff that I have ever seen. If you get a referral to see him immediately call you referral Dept back as you will be so sorry you saw him. Again I have many issues for my chronic back pain with many doctors seen. I have never been treated worse! Not to mention embarrassed as I was at his office. This doctor has to be the worst doctor I have ever encountered, I was referred to Advanced Pain Management from North County health services and it has been a nightmare ever since. I have a really bad back I have a tumor on my spine and a herniated disc, I spent the weekend in the ER because every time I call for an appt. they can never fit me in. When I originally Made the appointment, I had to wait 1 1/2 hour to even be seen, it was ridiculous. He couldn't do anything for me until I had an MRI so when his staff called me to give me the date of the MRI I told him that I was extremely claustrophobic and I was told to get over it. I went to the MRI and had a panic attack within seconds, called the doctors office they didn't even care and you wouldn't set up an appointment for another MRI, nothing! I had no other alternative but to go to the ER because I couldn't even walk, the ER doctors all could not believe that I have been IN this pain for so long. They gave me a CAT scan and I was told I needed surgery immediately, I called the doctors office again and was told you doesn't have any appointments for weeks and I told him that was unacceptable. I Told the staff that everything that the ER doctors told me, and still nothing. And then told the staff that I was going to just show up & sit until this doctor saw me so they finally made an appointment for today at 11:30, I just received a call from a Staff member telling me that he had to cancel the appointment. I informed her of everything the other doctor said to me and she panicked and said OK we will fit you in on Tuesday which is today, I just got a call that he had to cancel my appointment today and he can't see me until the end of June or the beginning of July.
