Imagine paying for a Netflix subscription where you think the movies are free to watch after making…read moreyour monthly subscription fee, but you later receive a bill for hundreds of dollars because one of the actors in the movie you watched was not licensed by Netflix. This is how it is dealing with Scripps and healthcare in 2026. Beware of Scripps Health! This is an elaborate money-making scheme where they assure you that you will not be billed for things and then perform services that aren't needed for insane prices. They then threaten to send you to collections because the services they provided (that no one asked for and they recommended) were not actually covered by your insurance. We took our three healthy children to the doctor for an annual wellness check. They were not sick, had no complaints and did not have any specific reason to go to the doctor other than a simple annual wellness check. We were not at the clinic for more than an hour but somehow Scripps racked up a bill of over $4,000 -- just for a simple wellness check!? Insurance only covered a small amount and now they're threatening to take us to a collection agency over these unwanted and unrequested "services" because they said the physician they assigned to us was "not in network." How are we supposed to know one physician at your office would be covered by our insurance but the other one you assigned to us is not? Before going to Scripps, we called in advance to ask our insurance company if Scripps did a free wellness check. They said "yes." We then called Scripps to ask if the wellness check would be covered by our insurance and we wouldn't have any additional charges at the visit -- they said "no additional charges." Then at the counter my wife asked one more time if we would be charged for any of the services and they said "we can't know every insurance policy and what is covered. If it's not covered, you'll get a bill." They didn't even check to see if the physician they assigned us was within our network. Fast forward a few weeks later and we're asked to pay over $1,850 for three healthy kids without any issues? Buyer beware!

She listened, actually listened and she knew her stuff. She didn't try to push meds or rush us out of the office. She was friendly, professional and caring. Obviously this was just our first visit but we are happy to have found a place where we actually like our doctor! UPDATE We still like this place. At times it can be hetic with the front desk staff trying to help everyone but they are still friendly. I do have a small issue with some of the nursing staff. I understand that they are there to be the buffer for the doctor but sometimes when a patient needs to speak with the doctor they legitmatley NEED to speak with the doctor and not their nurse. At other times they are busy and when they respond to you it is a bit short and lacking compassion. Not rude just down to business with no finess, however once the doctor comes in she is all bedside manner and the experience gets turned back around. Received an order to see a urologist but 4 months to see them. Appointment services are now provided by a South American call center that sounds like, well, a giant call center. Barely understand with the heavy accent and the background noise. Graybill is broken and management doesn't care.

Part of what makes Dr. Lawrence special is that he is a wonderful counselor. He challenges me to answer my own questions which boosts my autonomy and self efficacy but always steps in with his expertise when appropriate. I waited close to a month for a prescription to be placed and they act like your brand new every time you follow up. The wait time on the phone is always 30+ min unless you call first thing in the morning. I literally had to make an in person appointment to get a yes or no and STILL no progress other than starting all over again (not to mention an hour wait with one person in the lobby). It is very frustrating especially for a first time mom. They simply don't do what they say they will. I have more examples but I think I've made my point.
