I was scheduled for a root canal yesterday. They sent me a reminder text an hour before the appointment-automated system, I'm sure. Not wanting to incur a "no-show" fee, i went to the office. Called to verify, put on interminable hold. No message "we're closed." They were closed. I slipped on the ice and took a bad spill. This shows a serious lack of concern for the welfare of patients, as well as lack of foresight. I am 77 and have mobility problems. We all knew this storm was coming.They could have used the same automated system to alert patients to the closure. They could have printed the schedule for the week and made actual, live person phone calls. read more

I have had very poor experiences here despite having gone to It's predecessor for 20 years (when lovely Karen was the office manager)! Dr. Watanabe is great, but their focus on customer service has just gone downhill since changing from Gentech to Advantage Dental. They don't even have real soap in all their bathrooms! (Yikes!). (And the front desk guy just gave me a really rough time about it, too... yes it's important if someone will be touching inside my mouth that they have access to more than just sanitizer!) I had a visit scheduled for 12/31/21 that had been set months prior... they didn't bother to let me know it was being canceled. I had to learn through their voicemail message that I called myself to verify the appointment. That means I lost out on my second cleaning for 2021 that I would have been entitled to via insurance... I asked to speak to a manager after the fact to make it right; no one ever called me. More recently, it took me leaving 3 messages on various days in order to reschedule my husband's dental visit until I finally got a call back. Stephanie is very nice, but they have got to get more help and increase bandwidth to adequately address their patients' needs. I'm afraid after multiple decades, I'm finally going to start looking for a new dental care provider. :( I truly miss the special requests that Gentech always made a point to fulfill, whether giving a cup of coffee, a blanket, or a mini chapstick. read more

My daughter got her baby bicuspid tooth chipped pretty badly. The whole tooth turned bloody inside. Looks pink on the outside. Freaky!!! We tried to make an appointment and they said its not an emergency if there's no sign of an infection! So, they want me to wait for my daughter to have an infection?!! Why would i want her to get an infection? They said the soonest day available is over a week's wait?!! What? That's insane! On top of that the receptionist by the name Jessi W. Is what she said (not sure if that's even her real name). literally laughed at me on the phone. Here i am worried for my child and you think its funny?!! Really Jessi?!! How uncompassionate and disrespectful of you! She shouldn't be allowed to work with customers! I'm strongly considering changing my insurance. This whole this is unbelievable! read more

This is finally resolved as well as it will be I suppose. This is the only bad experience I've ever had with dentistry. I was ignored until I came unhinged on them and made this public. I've been thru spinal fusion surgery among other things, I've never experienced the level of pain I did after letting hese hacks work on me. And they couldn't even be bothered to return a phone call. This place was really neat and clean and the staff was super friendly and helpful, so I gotta give them 2 stars for that....BUT...my experience with dentist is going down hill fast. I think they are scam artists. I thought I could just go to a new dentist, get a simple cleaning and leave. It was supposed to be a "No biggie" kind of checkup... but I was WRONG. WRONG. Funny thing is...I just went to a dentist a year ago and he said my teeth and gums were in great shape and to keep up the good work. I took his advice and continued my daily regime of brushing and flossing everyday. I really wasn't expecting much of a problem, but can I say....WRONG again? SoOOoOo the dental assistant gives me the run down. I get the extra special treatment since I haven't been to a dentist in a year. Oh boy, I'm feeling special now...like I'm ready for a tea party with my new dentist. She told me that I needed to get my 18 X-ray photos taken of my mouth to see what kind of damage has been done in a year. I told her that I just had that done a few years ago, but she told me that it was their procedure for all new patients and they only do those 18 shot x-rays every 5 years. So I'm thinking..in less than 2 years my mouth has to become radiated again just because I'm a new patient? I give in and get them done. After waiting 10 minutes, the dentists comes in. Seems friendly enough. He tasked me it if I've been having any problems with my teeth or gums. I told him I was feeling fine and I haven't had any problems with my teeth or gums for a long time. The dentist then explains to me that he needs to check for pockets in my gums. I'm thinking to myself, no worries here.... I have good teeth and gums. My gums are healthy and pink. Next thing I know, he's calling out some big numbers like he's playing bingo in my mouth. Now, I already know about these numbers, the bigger the number, the deeper the pocket is. And talk about pain. It felt like he was purposely digging in his little pick to create new pockets in my gums. I've never had that much pain doing a typical gum check. Ouch. Anyway, once he was finished he then goes on to tell me that I need a "Deep Cleaning" and I have to replace and old filling that is now decayed. What? I can't believe it. In one year, my teeth have gone from excellent to really bad? I've NEVER ever needed a Deep cleaning in all my life. What the H3ll did I do differently to make my teeth so bad? I eat organic foods, I don't eat candy, I don't smoke or even drink coffee. My daily habits consist of brushing 2 times a day, flossing, rinsing...ect.. I felt fine. My teeth are fine. My gums are fine. What don't they understand. My dentist then continues to tell me that he will have to do the deep cleaning in 2 sessions that will take 1 1/2 hours each session. Then the dental assistant hand me the cost of the procedure and how much my insurance will pay. Funny how it all added up to be the exact amount my deduction will let me have. Exactly $1,000 for it all. I'm pretty much screwed if I need to go back to the dentist this year, because it will be all out of pocket then. bye-bye insurance coverage. I made my first appointment for the "Deep cleaning" next week, but I didn't feel too good about it. I wondered how much of a scam this procedure of "Deep Cleaning" really was, so I did some research and found out that it's not uncommon for dentists to advise this to patients who don't even need it done. It is one of the more costly and painful procedures done in a dentist office beside a root canal. It's about money. Deep cleanings are a scam. I think I will cancel my appointment and try to find a dentist who will just do a typical cleaning. No more Gentech for me. read more

I have been seeing the dentist at what was Gentech Dental. I have going there for 2 decades. The entire time I was dual insured and rarely had to pay out of pocket and if I did, it was a minimal amount. Then they sold out to Advantage Dental and that's when everything went downhill quick. Not the doctor - but the entire office staff. March of 2023 we moved out of state and now I am seeing a new dentist. Shortly after we moved we received a bill for $787.00. The bill does not show what it is for. They cannot say what it's for - but one thing is apparent either they are inept to handle their bookkeeping or the are crooks and I leaning on both. They've answered their calls 2 times during these past several months and now they do not answer their phones at all. I have a feeling they have caller ID. I refuse to pay it. It will go to collections I'm sure. At which time, I will need to get an attorney involved as it's not the money but the principal. These people are ruthless and highly recommend you stay clear of this office. Horrible HORRIBLE office staff. read more

I am not a fan of going to the dentist and because of this I had put off having some much needed dental work. I recently began working in Vancouver and am so glad that I found this dentist office. The staff are amazing and made me feel completely at ease. The dentist took the time to not only explain the work I needed (2 crowns and several old fillings replaced) but actually showed me the damaged areas of my teeth with pictures taken via a tiny camera. I have had many bad experiences in the past as my mouth tends to be very sensitive and small and I am also very hard to anesthetize (weird genetic trait.) I was never made to feel like a wimp for saying that something hurt and requesting nitrous for my appointments. My dentist - Dr Arlauskas actually called me after my last visit to make sure I was doing okay. I have nothing other than positive things to say about this clinic. read more

I am not sure where to start on this review... Last August I started the process of trying to get into see one of the dentists in this office(on 20th Ave Vancouver, WA). I called and left I have no idea how many messages, I sent I have no idea how many emails. Looking back I should have just bailed at this point, but needed a dentist on my insurance. So finally in October I just went to the office and got an appointment. Granted it was over two months out, but at least it was on my calendar. So appointment day came, I drove in and went to check in, to be told I did not have an appointment and I was not in their system. WHAT!!! I have an appointment card at home that you gave me with this time and date on it. No let me see what we can do to get you in soon. No sorry we made a mistake. Nothing. Just we don't have you in our system. My advise.........RUN as fast as you can away from this office. read more

This office is amazing, we're from out of town and my wife needed a root canal. We didn't have time to do at home so we decided to give them a call to see if they could do the procedure. Without hesitation they made room for wife to have the procedure done. The office very friendly and clean. The procedure took as long as they had stated. Update! Dentist office is under new ownership and things have changed! I'm knocking it down from 5 stars to 4 stars just from my last cleaning there. I felt that the new dentist is more money focused than patient-focused. I'm going to give them one more try but they're definitely not 5-star anymore. Second time going here to get some fillings replaced. First time I didn't opt to have the neck pillow, nitrous, warm blanket, or eye shades. The visit was decent and painless after I got numbed up but I was hesitant to come back because it wasn't that comfortable. Second visit I opted to have the nitrous, eye shades and neck pillow. Man, what a huge difference in comfortability! The nitrous was just enough to relax you and the neck pillow was a nice added comfort as well. The dentist (Scott McClure) was quick and knows his stuff. My only regret was not opting for the warm blankets they offer! I'll definitely come back when I need more work. Scott McClure was very good about managing my pain and making sure I was doing ok. read more

Avoid advantage dental. Went in for a cleaning and exam but was told on arrival that they were short handed and would be able to do the cleaning but the could do an exam. They took only two X-rays which didn't cover all my teeth. The dentist popped in for all of 30 seconds, tapped a couple teeth and left without saying a word. An assistant told me we were done and I could leave. I didn't receive any paperwork regarding my visit. I wasn't sure what to do or say as everyone in the office seemed to be clueless. I left and never heard from them until I received the bill. I was charged for a comprehensive exam and, even though I provided insurance information and confirmed the were a network provider for my insurance, they neglected to bill my insurance. When I called the office to get an explanation of the charges the person I was talking to didn't like my tone and hung up on me. I hadn't raised my voice but she didn't like what I was saying. I called again a few weeks later a talked with another person who was pleasant and let me know she was the new office manager. Even though she was pleasant and voiced concern she did nothing to provide me with an explanation of what treatment I received and what treatment I was billed for. Ultimately I received nothing but a bill from this dentist. No treatment or explanation. Avoid this dentist. read more

I've been going to gentech for a couple years now and have always had a pleasant experience with everyone. The last couple months I have had to go back and forth with my insurance in regards to payments. The office has been great about keeping in contact with me and the communication they're having with my insurance company. They've really gone to bat for me with my insurance and it definitely takes a lot of stress off of me. Jessi has been helping me more recently with this issue and she is one of the most informative and caring people I've spoke with from the office. She is always reassuring and explains everything in detail. I would highly recommend this office to anyone looking for a new dentist! It's very clear that all of their staff care about their patients as a whole and don't just see us as a paycheck. read more

My hygienist is Thanh and I love her to pieces. She explains everything to me, what I am doing wrong and what I am doing right. Keeping my teeth is important to her because it is to me. I never feel rushed. A nice warm blanket and Thanh makes my cleaning go by fast. Karen always finds time to talk. Not just about billing matters, daughter's wedding or my vacation. Her smile lights up the world. OK, the office. Doctor McClure, my dentist, always concerned about my comfort and making my smile the best it can be. The receptionist keeps me on my toes, she calls the day before to remind me of my appointment the next day. How great is that? You know I thought this place was great at first, went there for a check up, scheduled my next appointment so happy, loved the clean atmosphere, and friendly service. Then at my next appointment the doctor told me I needed my silver filling replaced, needless to say I took his advice. BAD IDEA the service took a very long time compared to other fillings Ive had in the past, also I was in pain for a total of a month and a half after, never have I had a issue like that. But wait there's more, then a week or two after my filling I'm finally able to put my retainer in, and what do you know it doesn't fit. So back I go. My bite was off completely and my tooth had been misshapen. He filed at my tooth to fix my bite and he also filed on my retainer, he told me he couldn't file on my tooth anymore or the filling would be gone. It wasn't 100% better but at least the retainer actually went on my teeth. Then my retainer breaks. So back I go for them to tell me some made up story about how it's not there fault it's broken. Had you done your job correctly and not half assed, none of this would have happened. I've had a retainer for 10 years with no issues. Those are not cheap and for them to take my money for my service and screw me over In the long run is absurd. Not to mention his comment about how "he wouldn't charge me for today" when I went in there I show them what issues they had caused. For background, I am myself a healthcare provider, and very demanding of those who are the same. I expect professionalism, technical competence, full explanations and education regarding health maintenance as well as possible problems, active inclusion of myself as the patient into the discussion and decision-making, and concern for comfort and convenience. I could not possibly be happier with my experience with Dr. Watanabe, his assistant, Karina T, and the hygienist, Ms. Truong. My dental insurance changed recently, requiring me to find a new source of dental care. I broke a crown, which sped up making my initial appointment. Knowing that I had a problem, Tanya, the receptionist, got me in right away. During that first visit, Dr. Watanabe and Karina met my immediate need, taking impressions, putting on a temporary crown, and scheduling my follow-up for as soon as the permanent crown was back from the lab. They also replaced two fillings with decay under them, after taking the large postage-stamp-sized xrays only of those areas in question. In the process--in one case--Dr. Watanabe eliminated a big gap between two back teeth (the result of a poorly-sized crown by a former dentist) which had been a constant source of annoyance to me for how the space would trap food uncomfortably every time I ate. I left that first appointment very pleased with their service and happy I had found a new dental office I could trust. My return visit for seating of the permanent crown, less than a week later, did not go perfectly, but not in a way which made me unhappy or critical. In correcting the bite of the new crown with my opposing tooth, grinding the surface of the crown (still outside of my mouth), Dr. Watanabe caused an unintended chip to come off. In the moment, he acknowledged what had happened, admitted that it was of his causing, explained why it would not be wise to permanently seat the new crown in that state, apologized, and scheduled me to return as soon as my own work schedule would allow. Some reviewers in the public who are not themselves healthcare providers might knock a star or two off of their review because of this. As a healthcare provider myself who believes in providing the quality of care to all my patients that I would want for myself or my loved ones, I know that, as humans, no matter how capable and dedicated, mistakes DO HAPPEN. That's when you get to see another side of your provider and their team. What I experienced with Dr. Watanabe and Karina in that second visit INCREASED my respect for their professionalism. My full routine dental exam and hygiene visit didn't happen until my third visit to their office, since my problems took precedence for their attention. Dr. Watanabe checked over all my teeth with the sharp curved pick they use to detect soft spots in enamel. He probed all of the margins where the gums meet the teeth with a separate instrument. That probe instrument could not be said to be "comfortable," but Dr. Watanabe was gentle in his performance of the whole exam. He dictated his findings, tooth-by-tooth, to Karina, who entered it into my electronic chart. They were a mutually-respectful team, and very efficient. At my initial visit to their office, Tanya, the receptionist had asked for a release of records to get all the particulars from my former dentist. In that way, they explained at my third visit, that repetition of my panoramic x-rays or additional "bite wings" wasn't indicated. [I HAD had "deep cleaning" of the scale on my teeth below the gum line with my prior hygienist. That was a first in life, and VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. I was pleased that, following the previous hygienists's recommendations for flossing, my probe depths now check out fine!] So, I have never had better experiences with dental service in all my life. [I'm 62.] Their office is immaculately clean. They offered me a blanket, pillow, and/or head phones with choice of music at every visit. Their use of new technology to photograph areas of concern and convey them on a computer monitor just over my lap, let me see exactly what they were seeing while we discussed what to do about them as fixes. Had I needed or wanted it, nitrous oxide would also have been available. My husband, a wonderful man with terrible teeth, and dental experiences to match, also had positive experiences with their care last week. I never have written a review on the internet before, but just had to take the time to do this one. I hope it's been helpful. read more
