If Rumble didn't feel like he was getting the attention that he deserved from my boyfriend and me (when we were eating, watching tv, reading, etc.), he would bark at us non-stop until we dropped everything to attend to his needs. I thought he wasn't being stimulated enough, so I amped up our exercise/play time and tried various training tricks - nothing worked. William came to my apartment to teach us how to train Rumble out of his bad habits. It's only been a few weeks, and we've seen a drastic, positive change in his behavior. It's easy to get accustomed to a dog's bad behavior and then change the way you live your life to placate your dog. William empowered my boyfriend and me to take control of our household, and this leads to us being able to shower Rumble with even MORE love to reward him for his great behavior! William also took Rumble on an Adventure Hike, and he showed me that Rumble didn't have to be held onto with a leash (in certain areas!). I'm going camping/hiking with Rumble next month, so now I'm more comfortable with Rumble being off-leash on hikes and more confident that he'll stick with me on the trails. Six years after my original view, I can still say that William is amazing at what he does. To be honest, in the beginning we struggled with our extremely independent and aloof breed dog, going through a few well recommended trainers (including one of Cesar Milan's assistants) for help. What can I say, our dog loves going on dog hikes with Adventure Dog LA. She runs around like crazy and will sends of a ton of great photos, on top of all of that, Will trains the dog while on the hike! I've used other dog hike services, but its not as good for our puppy, sure she gets tired out, but she doesn't get any training with the other services we have used. Background: I have two dogs. I used to work from home full-time, but I was offered a fancy office job a couple of months ago, and I needed a dog walker. One of my dogs, Cosmo, has epilepsy, and it makes him a crabby jerk. He hates it when new people come to our house, he doesn't like to be touched, and he has a lot of fear-aggression issues. He bites. He's also super high energy, and I knew leaving him and our other dog (who's low-energy and doesn't play with him as much as he'd like) home alone would drive them both crazy. So I had to find a dog walker who wasn't afraid of Cosmo and was willing to put in the time and energy to earn Cosmo's trust. I interviewed a few dog walkers. Some seemed genuinely afraid of Cosmo (all 22 pounds of him). One suggested I leave him at home with his muzzle on all day when they were scheduled to walk him. I found William's website through Craigslist and read about the Doggy Adventures, and I knew it would be perfect for Cosmo. He loves to hike, and a full day out of the house would sap his manic energy. And the first one was free! I hadn't started my new job yet, so I told William to come over while I was there, and I said I'd have my phone on me all day in case Cosmo was too much and I had to come and pick him up. I put his muzzle on and sent them on their way. I anxiously waited all day for that call. To my surprise, William started texting me photos of Cosmo having a BLAST at Runyon Canyon. He patiently sat with him and just waited and waited until Cosmo trusted him enough to take the muzzle off. He texted me a photo of Cosmo sitting in his lap -- something he NEVER does with strangers. (I added the pic to Yelp.) Before he even dropped Cosmo off the first day, I ran out and made him a set of my house keys. Since then, he takes both my dogs on walks twice a week, and he takes Cosmo on Doggy Adventures once a week (my other dog is too small and lazy for all that action). Cosmo has improved SO MUCH. He's much better with guests, he's nicer with other dogs, and he just generally seems more happy and relaxed. I would recommend William to ANYONE with a problem dog. I first contacted William when I discoverd on camera that our dog was crying and bored all day while we were at work. It pained me to see that, so I did some research on yelp and low and behold I found Adventure Dog LA!! What can't I say about William?? He's been amazing to our now two dogs providing videos & endless rockstar photos of their walking/hiking adventures and they definitely come back tired and happier than ever. Knowing that our first dog Kramer has many issues (i.e. seizures, patellar luxation of legs, aggression & so forth) William knew exactly how to deal with them and nothing came as a shock when describing my concerns. Every hike & walk Kramer has been on was not only beneficial to his well-being but also to his social and behavioural self. He now walks off-leash, keeps up with the bigger dogs on hikes and overall seems to be stimulated (no crying from boredom!) We got our other puppy Sketch a few months later and William quickly brought him up to speed with the disciplined walks and fun hikes to make their time at home a little more tolerable. Sketch has improved in such a short time being that he was bad on a leash and scared of everything. With the help of William and his adorable and perfectly obedient sidekick, Toby, both our dogs are apart of a great team. So if your dogs seem like they need some adventure in their life or even just a stroll outdoors, William is the guy to contact! He really has a connection with dogs and somehow makes time in his busy schedule to coordinate with yours and never has any incidents. It's very rare to find a business with all 5-star reviews, so my expectations for Adventure Dog LA were extremely high. William somehow managed to exceed my expectations - in one day, he taught my rambunctious and energetic German Shepherd, Ant, to walk perfectly on leash and even spent some time teaching me his technique. I'd been working with Ant for weeks and still hadn't come close. Other great things about ADLA include: - Pictures: I got several pictures of my dog throughout the day - in the car with other dogs, on a hike, playing with other dogs at the dog park, etc. I could tell he was having a blast, and loved getting the periodic updates. - Closely supervised socialization: Ant got to meet lots of different dogs in different settings, and was closely supervised the entire time. - Evaluation: William provided an assessment of the things Ant did well (nice to other dogs and people) and the things to work on (recall behavior). - Training: As mentioned in the above, William taught Ant how to heel nicely, and me how to reinforce that good behavior. - Location: Conveniently located downtown - close to work. Kind of costly but worth it :) William definitely knows what he's doing. He is super communicative, helpful and (for the bonus) cute! He adjusts the training according to you and your dog's needs or special circumstances. My chihuahua-corgi mix pup, Cona, had been very aggressive toward other dogs and he also had a pulling issue. He still has work to do, but he's shown progress a lot quicker than I could ever imagine. It literally shocked me when I saw Cona running around other dogs on day 1, made me so happy. William is amazing! We recently adopted a dog from the South LA shelter. She is very cute of course, but had some issues... If we walked out on the street she would immediately lose her shit at any human, dog, leaf or telephone pole that looked her way. She never seemed to listen to us AT ALL when she got frenzied and we knew we needed some professional help, being first time dog owners. I looked at hundreds of places, but William stood out to me! If you can find his Instagram, it's crazy. He is so in control and friendly, and seemed to have the most fun. After just our first session our dog was walking calmly on the leash, and she would even sit when I stopped walking. Taking her outside is no longer stressful or a chore, it's actually enjoyable! He's the doggy whisperer... Our next session he taught US how to train her with basic obedience commands, which we're already having a lot of fun doing. She still has some problems with being polite to other dogs so he's going to start taking her on his leash-less pack hikes (which you can also see on his Insta, they look so fun) to give her some socialization. 36 hours before my 3-week business trip to Europe, my dog sitter bailed. Freaking out, I went straight to Yelp and was lucky to find Adventure Dog LA - aka William. After reading his pitch and the reviews, I was really hoping that he'd be able to watch my dogs for me. I was pretty desperate, but it sounded like William was more than I could have hoped for. I just wanted someone responsible that I could trust, and here was someone who would not only watch my dogs but take them on hikes and adventures too! I called him up and he agreed to come over and meet me and the dogs. Both my ridgeback and shepherd were adult rescues and are a bit crazy. Mostly just WAAAAY excited but can get aggressive when they see the mail man or small furry animals. I told him this prior to his arrival, and that he should expect the dogs to jump around a lot but he needn't worry about biting. He came into the house, and my dogs flew in the air to greet him, and he just turned his back and ignored them until they stopped. That was a good sign, in stark contrast to one trainer who screamed at me "get your dog off me!" Which I thought was weird because I had called her to help stop them from jumping on people! Anyway... Like I said, I was feeling desperate with the looming trip, but these are my dogs and my home and I need someone I can trust. Right off the bat, William struck me as friendly and trustworthy, and passionate about dogs and their people. We talked about what I needed - someone to feed and walk the dogs - and what he might be able to do in addition. He agreed to take them on adventures when he could, and help socialize them with other dogs. That was more than I was hoping for, so I handed him a set of keys to the house and was set. While watching the dogs, William texted and emailed me with updates on how the dogs were doing, and sent me photos every day. As someone who loves my dogs and hates to be away from them, I really appreciated him doing this! Two weeks into my trip, I emailed William to tell him that I had broken my ankle and wasn't sure when I'd be home. I needed surgery and couldn't fly until doctors gave me the okay. My 3 week trip suddenly turned into 6 weeks and I didn't know how that would work. As you can see, he's busy running a business and I'm sure me telling him I'd be away another three weeks was not particularly convenient for him (I think I ruined/pushed back his vacation plans). But I wouldn't know it, because he simply said, "Man that sucks, get better soon and let me know when you think you're coming home." It did indeed suck, but I felt a lot better knowing he had my back! As of now he's watched my dogs on four or five trips, for a total of roughly three calendar months. I trust him, he's super reliable, and my dogs love him. To top it all off, he charges what he calls fair rates, and I call ridiculously cheap for Los Angeles. I'm actually embarrassed by how much money I've spent on fancy boarding places that left my dogs more stressed than when I brought them in, and completely ineffective trainers who think that offering a dog biscuit will somehow override my dogs' strong prey drive / neuroses / whatever. As a business owner myself, I find it noteworthy that at the time of this writing, EVERY review for William is 5 stars - except for one person who has never actually used his services. That just goes to show how truly excellent he is, and that he's doing things the right way. I consider myself fortunate to be able to leave another 5 star review. William seriously changed my life! We got our lovey from the shelter and felt really good about ourselves "saving a dog". Of course, we realized that Bud (because we always just called him "come here, bud") had a past and being from the shelter, we would face challenges ... However, I would have never expected Bud to become so aggressive over the first weeks after his relocation to us. He didn't only bark at people, but also snapped at them and tried to pull me when we went for a walk. It was also only with me; he never did it with my husband. So I called William. He listened very patiently to my story and came out right the next day. He watched our daily routine and how we interact. After a fairly short amount of time, he gave our problem a name. He told me that Bud was leash aggressive, why he would behave that way and trained ME (not my dog) how to communicate correctly and clearly with him. William has been taking Frankie on amazing adventures for about two weeks now and there's been a significant change in his behavior and energy level. Before when I was using another dog walking company, I'd come home from work around 7pm and Frankie was still full of energy, destructive, etc. even after I walked him for 30 minutes in the morning and at night. Not anymore. When I walk in the door from work, Frankie will give me a courtesy tail wag and a glance, but will go back to sleeping on the couch, which in my world means SUCCESS! We are so thankful that we found William to take care of our Kuwa (see photo below). I know that, we, like many other pet owners felt guilty about leaving our little puppy at home while we were away at work, so we decided to find a pet walker to take our dog out during the day. We tried another company and they were o.k., but they just didn't seem to have their heart in it. After searching online and through yelp, we came across Adventure Dog LA and read about all the happy owners who picked William to take care of their pooch. We contacted William and he made time to come over to our home after business hours to talk about what he does and assess our pup. I have a crazy one year old Siberian husky who wouldn't listen to me when I would take her walking or hiking...she would constantly pull, get distracted very easily and wouldn't come when I called her. William was great with my dog he definitely knows what he's doing in just a few minutes he got her to walk by his side without pulling and to listen, it was like I was looking at a completely different dog I never thought I'd see the day! I wish there were 5 more stars that I could add to this review. I found William on Yelp, I read the review and loved what I saw. It was a bit of an emergency, I was about to embark on a few long shoot days with no one to take out my anti-social, best friend. I had always shied away from walkers in the past but, when I needed help, I turned to Yelp, and then to William. So I thought, well this is worth a shot. I called, I left a voicemail explaining my situation called back within a few minutes and let me know that he was with dogs and could'nt speak but he would call later and not to worry, we could work something out. William met with me and my pup that night after a day out with the dogs. I described the many personality traits and quirks of my best friend. William assured me that he could handle her and not to worry. I mentioned that she was dog agressive.. that I usually walk her on a correction collar.. that we train at Blue Collar with Tanya who's badass and says that my BFF is not feeling too confident in me as her pack leader.. ugh.. Still he said, he wasnt concerned and he was sure he could take her out. I was calmed by his cool demeanor, his knowledge and understanding of dog training and the fact that they would be going on hike rather than on a regular walk around the 'ol hood.. Three days in a row I counted on William. I got really great photos of my ADD BFF actually interacting, well walking with, other dogs! My husband and I adopted Pliny about 4 months ago and quickly learned we needed help exercising her on days we are both out of the house. A walk in the morning and evening was not going to cut it! She also really needed socialization. We tried doggy daycare but her energy was mistaken for aggression and we were asked to not come back. I found William on Yelp and emailed him to give him the whole embarrassing background on Pliny in daycare and he was still open to meeting her. He has worked with all kinds of dogs and did not shy away from a high-energy Pit mix. He felt she would work well with his morning hiking group (usually has 5 or 6 dogs) and recommended that for us. William picks Pliny up between 8:30 and 9 in the morning and brings her back a couple hours later completely worn out. He usually takes them to an area that has somewhere they can run off leash for a while. He also works with Pliny and her on-leash training which has helped a lot. Added bonus: He will send you the cutest pictures of your dog you have ever seen! True action shots! If you are considering William I would also recommend checking out his instagram @adventuredogla where he posts pictures from his adventures. Will is amazing. I'm paranoid and super protective about letting anyone walk or take care of my dog but I trust Will 100%. He's so good with her, really affectionate and careful and really aware of her mood and behavior...and my mood! I often need him last minute and he always comes through. I've counted on him so many times and I honestly don't know what I'd do without him! I've had other dog walkers in the past and really no one compares to Will. He has an amazing energy, sense of humor and enthusiasm that makes me totally trust that my do is in good hands and that he'll get my back in a pinch. He also sends the most amazing pictures. My little Boston Terrier, Brando, has always been a sweet dog. But around the time he turned 5 he started becoming a little bit aggressive towards some other dogs. I started feeling nervous about bringing Brando to the dog park or letting him sniff other dogs on walks. I have a crazy schedule and needed to find someone who could not only walk Brando while I was at work but also help him play nicely with other dogs again. William assured me that he could work with Brando so that I would feel comfortable letting him play with other pups again. He offered to meet Brando during a free consultation. I scheduled one for a week later, and he came over and spent about a half hour assessing Brando's personality and training needs. He told me he would start out walking and leash training Brando solo until he felt confident that Brando could be around dogs, then he would slowly introduce Brando to his own dogs to help him socialize. About a month and half later Brando was going on park visits and hikes with lots of other dogs. (He also walks much much better on a leash). I am so impressed with William's dedication to Brando. Every time he picks Brando up for an hour walk, a park visit or an all day hiking adventure, he sends me tons of pictures and updates. William is awesome. He takes my little guy out for awesome adventures where he gets exercise and much needed socialization. I get the greatest pictures! I am 75 years old and own a Hungarian Vizsla. Puma is a fantastic dog, but would always pull me on the leash and it was very difficult for me to walk him at all as he would potentially pull me over and i was worried about falling. I contacted William Hathaway at AdventureDogLA. He really is a fantastic dog trainer and helped me in more ways than i originally desired. Not only can I walk my dog on the leash, I can walk him on my motorized scooter to give him more exercise, and I can open the front door and let him run around in the front yard WITHOUT A LEASH, to go potty! My boyfriend and I have been on the lookout for a dog walker for months. Our dog is our little hairy furry child and we are really picky with who is able to handle her and who we trust. She is a pitbull with tons of energy who loves a good hike. We went away for a long weekend and after meeting with William, were completely smitten! He gladly came to our house to meet with us and instantly gave off a great vibe. He is on it. Truly! Always returned our texts or calls within no time at all and our pup took a liking to him immediately. He also was super flexible with our schedule. He really has a way with animals. We felt so so comfortable leaving our home open to him to come and pick her up for a couple nice long excursions a day. He was fantastic!! We got texts and photos throughout the hikes for three days in a row. Our dog looked SO happy and she was having such good adventures. William pays attention to your dogs needs and can really work with them. He paired our energetic crazy pup with another larger dog and they got along instantly! They played with one another and wore each other out all day. He had our pup swimming (which she never does!) with a huge smile! He even had her posing on a bench with her hiking buddies! She looked so well taken care of and content. It is really very simple. Find someone kind that you can trust and who truly just loves animals (dogs especially!) and you can find someone to welcome into your home and take care of your loved ones while you are away. My dogs and I are so so lucky to have found Will. I have two dogs who pulled endlessly on leash, lunged at other dogs and humans, and just would not listen. I was deathly afraid that some incident would happen and I would lose them because I could not control them. I contacted Will at AdventureDog LA and he thoroughly interviewed me to learn about the problems I was facing. He also oriented me on his theory of behavioral training. I met with him a few days later and implemented his teachings. The difference of just one session was almost miraculous. He taught me how to work effectively with my dogs, how to be an alpha, and what I need to do to gain control. Stella and Ethel, my dogs, are now much more well behaved than they have ever been. Our walks are peaceful with no tugging. They go on weekly hikes with Will. They can go off leash (big no, no before). I am so thankful to have found such a dedicated and patient trainer who didn't give up on my dogs like previous trainers have. Highly, highly recommended. read more
