We have rafted the Ocoee River several times over the years and always book with Adventures Unlimited! But this most recent time with Trey as our guide felt pretty special and definitely was a fresh take on a familiar experience. There was just something about Trey's presence which made it clear our trip was not destined to be business as usual. His instructions were hands down the best we've witnessed, being delivered with an impressive economy of words that was both precise (but effective) and flavored with his epic dry humor. It was also a little uncanny how he was able to just intuit our group's comfort level, relative capabilities, and what we were hoping to get out of the day. The whole experience felt tailored to our interests but with very little explicit communication from us. It was genuinely thrilling in the sense that we did some maneuvers we had never attempted in past trips but while also feeling well prepared for each obstacle and thus incredibly safe too. His calm confidence is clearly hard earned through years of experience and we found out later he has been rafting this specific river for like 15 years and that he considers it his personal favorite. I definitely believe that as Trey was a wealth of knowledge about the history and present day operational aspects of the river too which added an unexpected learning dimension to the trip. The introductions were clear and quick and easy to understand. The ship was filled with useful equipment for rafting and for regular merchandise. When getting ready, we got into a line and grabbed our gear quickly and suited up. Once off the bus at our launch spot, we were given clear instructions about motions and directions our instructor would give. Other than that part of the rafting, our instructor, Cole, was so focused and very patient with us. He also let us flip the boat! The course itself was amazing and was equal parts thrilling and fun. This place is the best. There are other rafting outfitters in the area, but this one has everything. A great bar and grill, live music in the evenings, camping, cabins and the best guides. Jimmy Johnson was our guide and he was awesome. He let us know he could make our ride as wild or mild as we wanted. We opted for wild, but that didn't mean dangerous Jimmy had us trained and navigated so the river did most of the hard work. He still had us doing 180's, bouncing off rocks and riding class IV rapids. The scenery was beautiful, our guide had so many interesting stories about the area. Highly recommend this trip and you will find it something you'll want to do again and again. read more

Where do I begin.. I've been white water rafting 2-3 times a year for the past 7 years, and this trip was by far the worst customer service experience from a management and leadership standpoint. Let me start off by saying our guide Paul was amazing and went above and beyond from start to finish. He was so nice and conversational, did tricks all through out the river. This was the best RIVER EXPERIENCE I've had. I had originally booked the full river back in June. We had some discrepancies with everyone's schedule, so I had called to reschedule our trip. Adventures Unlimited were very accommodating and helped us get through this process. When booking the full river, I was told that lunch was included. When I asked what is for lunch, the lady on the phone stated it would be from a restaurant called The Bus, And I could view their menu online to see what they offered. They have a variety of options. Since she told me to check out the menu, I assumed our lunch stop would be at a restaurant along the river... not catered food. We get to the half way point where it's lunch time, we walked up to the booth (table with table cloth, it wasnt even set up as nice as the other companies vendors) and they only offered pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw, and chips dumped into a bowl. When I mentioned that our group of 6 dont eat pork and if there were other options, the lady in charge of catering yelled at me "oh jesus this cant be happening again. You didnt tell us so this is all we have. If you dont want it, dont eat" I explained to her when I asked on the phone they told me to look at the menu , she told me thats not her fault. So my group and I sat at the picnic table without any food. Paul, our guide noticed and came over, we explained the situation to him and he felt for us and went to ask another vendor if they had something not pork. Apricot Lane was nice enough to have roast beef & turkey sandwiches for us. While he was talking to the vendor, Alicia the tour guide leader came up and was rude and disrespectful to Paul. Yelling at him in front of us. And if we didnt want to eat the pulled pork then we shouldnt eat at all because he cant ask other vendors for food for a group of 6. And she continued to disrespect him and he said he was willing to pay for it out of his pocket if anything, which is not at all what we asked for. His generosity and willingness didn't go unnoticed. We got up to get some water, where Alicia, Paul, our vendor, and photographer were sitting. And our photographer said "just eat the beans". Keep in mind, baked beans are also cooked in pork. The group sitting continued to bicker about the situation to the point other members rafting over heard & started coming up to us asking what is going and what is happening since their tour guide continued to go off on ours. As a manager my self, I didn't like the way the whole situation was handled, so once we got back to the office, I brought it up to a manager, Julie's attention. Once again, she was rude and said it was a miscommunication on both ends, theres and ours for not saying what the food restrictions are. She then told me "not eating the food provided due to a dietary restriction is a CHOICE" I explained it was religious, not a choice, where she proceeded to tell me "that is still a choice". She had said the girl who made my booking no longer works for them, and that we can go eat at the Bus restaurant where they would compensate our meal. At that point of the trip, we were just exhausted and wanted to go home. So we explained that we didn't want to eat at the restaurant. And she stated "I am offering you a decent meal and an air-conditioned restaurant and you're going to reject it?" Keep in mind The restaurant only has frozen fried food, and there was no seating inside available so we ended up sitting outside in the heat. All in all to say, no apology was ever given by Julie, Alicia, or the catering vendor at the river. Will I be using adventures unlimited again? Absolutely not. I'll keep my business at High Country Adventure across the street. read more

I don't know where to start...but this was AMAZING and such a great experience for the whole family. Middle Ocee river is 2.5 hours from Gatlinburg but it's a easy drive on interstate 40. When we got there it was ample parking. It was early spring when we went so there were only one trip a day. The staff was amazing! Our guide and one of the earliest outfitters in the area Carlo was very informative and fun. The river would be rated 2-3 rapids so it had some good drops and white water but nothing that would be too dangerous for kids. When you sign up online make sure you pay for pictures early..it'll save you $10 and you definitely would want pictures!!! read more

You can leave your keys with the store clerk for safekeeping and tipping the raft guides is easy with a tip box or online payment info. Our guide Shelbie was great! She asked us what kind of adventure we wanted and delivered a super fun time. We learned about the rapids, the geology, and some of the flora specific to the Ocoee. I've been taking kids down the Ocoee for years and Adventures Unlimited is and has been my go to guide. Circumstances dictated using another guide last year and, sheesh, what a difference. We took two boats of scouts down this trip. Paul was our guide and his experience, professionalism, and enthusiasm were outstanding. He's guided for 18 years, the last five on the Ocoee, and it showed. We were able to surf rapids, hit them at crazy angles, and come out the other side wide-eyed, and whooping! The boys enjoyed it too. Their facilities and equipment are exceptional. The other guides, the ladies inside, and our bus driver were all friendly and professional. And the entire experience was FUN! That was the goal and AU delivered! We also came away with great photos of the trip to share with friends and family. I will not run the Ocoee with any other outfitter again.
