The level of care from the physicians was excellent-you will not be disappointed with the physicians and knowledge. I owe them so much for finding some serious skin issues. HOWEVER, the lack of respect and beyond rude nature of Janet at the front desk was horrific. Each time I called or visited the office I was treated like the dirt under her shoe. This place is a joke if I could give it less than 1 star I would. First off the front desk is a complete unorganized mess I have had 2 appointments "lost in scheduling" and 1 appointment made for something that wasn't available. My first visit for a Mohs procedure, after reading these reviews l questioned my choice, but it was exceptional experience! The Ladies at reception were friendly, helpful, and nice. I arrived early as requested, filled out a few pages of paperwork and was taken to the exam room early. The Medical Ass't and PA were friendly, professional, and joked with me. Best Dermatologist in NY. I had an appointment for a skin cancer follow up from a previous state. The appointment process was easy, the staff on arrival was excellent, the wait was minimal, the pre exam and paperwork was as expected, I especially liked the patient portal. The doctor was honest, well educated and up to date on all new aesthetic procedures. It was an excellent experience, he took his time, didn't rush and explained benefits of getting botox, Restylane, juveau, juvederm, kybella etc. I read all the reviews prior to coming to this office and people do you want to go to a doctor who is the best, is honest and knowledgeable or someone who just got out of school and will take three visits to diagnose what Dr Sklar does in one visit? I understand bedside manner for many people is extremely important for me it is about results. True Dr. Sklar is direct and to the point and doesn't linger once he has treated you. But this is a busy and popular office. Something has to give. Some patients in the waiting area are in pain, or thinking about the skin cancer treatment they have, or biopsy results. Bedside manner is subjective and not essential to the best treatment for a condition. My advice is before leaving the examination room speak with a PA or assistant and tell them what your question is and they will go talk to with Dr. Sklar. And most times he'll return and speak with you at length or a PA. The PA's are top notch. They are so good and professional, I thought they were actually doctors. I have been going there for years, and there is a definite rhythm to it. You have find a way to adapt to it. On the positive notes of the practice which I have experienced, they have taken me without an appointement when I need critical care. The office is almost alway busy on any given day, which is a testament to the quality of the care given. Their clientele is young and old. The wait time is resonable considering the volume of patients. They have expanded and remodeled their facilities as their clientele has grown so you never feel cramped. The office and clinical rooms are spotlessly clean with new sterile field lamps and examination equipment. The PA's are fabulous and very caring. I consider Liz a compassionate guardian angel for me. She changed my life by altering a traditional extremely painful treatment I was receiving elsewhere to a remedy of injections for Hidradenitis, which is itself a rare complicated and an ecrutiatingly painful condition often resulting in hospitalization. As soon as I followed her treatment plan I have been able to keep this condition stabilized and no longer suffer from out of control flareups. It must be over ten years now. The credit card thing I have read about but never was an issue for me. And I don't know if they even do it anymore. Medical Billing is always a challenge and things do wrong on occasion. Everyone has experienced issues with billing. Usually an appeal process is available with most health companies and resolution although a painful process is acheivieable. People need to accept this is the cost of doing business with any medical provider. How many buttons do you press to get through to a cell phone company when you have a problem and go through endless prompts and then the phone disconnects you. If you are so perturbed about your bill go to office and speak to someone in person. Those phones are ringing off the hook. Do you really expect someone to have an opportunity to dig up your file which is buried with a thousand other patients files, plus answer the phone and tell that person to hold, because they are helping you, and all the other distractions that are going on. If you cannot physically get there setup a phone conference appointment for maybe the next day. Give them time to pull your file and prepare for your call. Be specific. Ask them a good time to call. Regarding procedures gone wrong I know Dr.Sklar runs a pretty tight ship as to who does what there. And stitches being removed unless it was too soon is usually pretty straightforward. Of course underlying infections, not following post procedures carefully or an inept technician could result in a complication that may not be obvious to an untrained eye. It does unfortunately happen. The bottom line is this place had a ton of patients. They do great work and are up on all the latest procedurels. And address your concerns with the people there. They will listen and they will remember to treat you better the next time. read more

I have been a patient of this practice for many years. I always preferred Liz the PA who is very knowledgeable and sweet. I used her to take out a small cyst from my back. I was booked an appt with the nurse to remove my stitches in a week. I could tell the person removing my stitches was not a nurse nor capable and poked and prodded and opened up my incision and inflamed it causing quite a bit of pain. When I went back to have them check my incision I was told she was a medical assistant and now my incision has to granulate to close taking another 2 weeks and to take an antibiotic twice a day! Clearly this is not the outcome I should have had and medical assistants should not be removing stitches!! I will find another dermatology practice! read more

I have been going there for treatment of a very itchy rash since July 2018. I saw Douglas J. Melman first, then physician assistant 'Preeti' who took a biopsy of my skin, and finally Dr. Sklar (who I agree has a terrible bedside manner). The biopsy taken of my skin came back inconclusive. Mainly because they did not take enough sample. Dr. Sklar offered another biopsy, however he did not offer to do it complimentary as the first one did not have enough sample- which I believe was Ms Preeti's error. The issue is that not one of these doctors cared enough to follow up and to see how I was doing after my visits. None of the treatments that they prescribed had any positive effect on my condition. I am still with the itchy rash after 5 visit and a lot of money paid by my insurance plus my co-pays. Would not recommend these doctors. Diane Melograne read more

My family has been using this practice for several years. Our old insurance company covered a procedure that the new one didn't. When I went for an authorization, we were turned down. Months later, we received a call from the doctors office indicating the insurance company had approved the coverage of the drug. Great. Scheduled a visit and had the procedure done. 4 months later, we receive a bill from the doctors office. Left 5 or 6 messages for Evangeline, their billing person. Never got the courtesy of a call back. Todays mail brought a surprise. A letter from a collection agency. Called doctors off ice to speak with the office manager but away till next week and no one else to speak with. Finally spoke with someone at the billing office. No explanation for lack of response to messages. Bottom line, insurance company released the meds but would not approve the procedure. Not what the Doctors office alluded to when they encouraged the resumption of the treatment. And now I'm left holding the bag. Our family is done with this practice. They may be good doctors but the rest of the office practices are at the level of a used car saleman read more

Don't go! This place does not even deserve one star. I have been going here for years and I am finally giving up. Every single time I go, I show up on time for my appointment and I wait over an hour to be seen. Then another 30 minutes sitting in a room waiting for the doctor. No one at the front desk tells me they are backed up or ever apologizes. I end up waiting over an hour for an appointment that takes approximately two minutes. I have been to Aesthetic Dermatology for multiple skin treatments and laser hair removal over the last decade. Dr. Sklar and Dr. Melman are both incredibly knowledgeable and accomplished dermatologists who are not like other doctors in the area. They are not focused on sweet-talking you or selling you on the latest cosmetic fads. They prioritize the needs of their patients and it SHOWS in the quality of work they do. Dr. Sklar has removed warts from my children and potentially cancerous moles for me. The warts are gone and I am cancer-free! I have also had laser hair removal done by Liz and Gurpreet. They are both thorough and attentive. I am on my sixth treatment with minimal hair growth... almost done! I do think customer service could be improved at the front desk, but the doctors and medical staff in the practice itself is top notch. For as long as I have been a patient at Aesthetic Dermatology, I have never once felt distrust or discomfort in any of their medical advice... a true rarity. My Elderly, demented mother's service was refused and her account was 'blocked' from scheduling treatment appoints with no explanation or notice. The 'Policy' of flagging accounts and refusing service is a policy created and implemented by this office without regard for checking on each patients needs, circumstances of the patient or the family. In my mother's case, she has both Medicare and GHI supplement. Her aide escorts her to her appointments and was given no explanation nor was the family. The billing vendor claimed three different reasons for refusal of service- none of which were accurate. The office 'policy' requires credit cards be 'left on file' with open permission to charge- and the office does not mail (nor email) ANY statements for any balances due. In our case, there was NO balance due, there was no reason for blocking my mother's service. This office does NOT operate like other dermatology offices in the Plainview/Bethpage area. Our family is outraged by the 'anti- patient' policy and the fact that this practice is definitely not seeking to treat SICK patients with skin cancer but rather focus on cosmetic patients. The name of this practice (Aesthetic Dermatology) should be the key factor in determining if this doctor is the right environment for anyone with MEDICAL issues vs Cosmetic Issues since Credit Cards on carte blanche approval seem to be the priority criteria for treating any patient. read more

Went back there today and I have to say I'm extremely disappointed. I paid my copayment just to have the doctor tell me to see another doctor but this doctor that they want me to see is booked for 3 months and now I have to go to a different doctor and office. BAD BUSINESS : Be aware , they insist you have a credit card on file at all times, So that they can blast you with charges before you even get your explanation of benefits from your insurance company. Ask them to please not charge you until you get the explanation ? Sure but guess what they don't listen , they did it to me twice. The doctors are Great. I've been here several times in the last 15 years and my most recent visit this past week left me reeling due to their new billing practice of insisting I leave a credit card on file. I actually walked out and will not be returning even though their doctors are good. I agree with the other reviewer. This is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard of for a doctors office. If I want to pay by credit card I'll give it to you once I review my bill. The gal at the desk actually suggested I call their billing office to tell them not to put any charges on my card and to tell them that I would pay the bill directly. Right! Like that might actually work. Have you ever tried to straighten out a doctor or hospital bill you questioned? It's bad enough dealing with the billers and your insurance company.
