Five stars for the fresh breads and grocery! I come here once a week to pick up breads and perhaps some Middle Eastern & Mediterranean snacks. In its old location (across rt 18), this was a great little Ethnic grocery where I was able to pick up all the ingredients required for my Middle Eastern cooking. In its new location, it is now a wonderfully mid sized grocery with an expanded selection of many of the Mideast ingredients I use. Unfortunately, the couple of times I tried their falafel and other prepared foods I was disappointed. So, in a nutshell, 5 starts for the grocery; 2 starts for the prepared food. read more

This place is fabulous - it's like the cave of wonders of Middle Eastern food. Their prepared food section / desserts & cookies is also really diverse & competitively priced. We try to stop in whenever we're in the neighborhood & service is also really great. I love that they have little carts & that they label every item for sale. The service is just awful...the people working there are of the attitude that "this is what we've got, take it or leave it"....their koshary smelled good, but the fried Onions were soggy. They have products that are written on it In Hebrew only, no English and no Arabic. It's ok, but there are other stores in the area that have much better customer service. read more

Are you fucking kidding me? The "gyro" i got was a fucking TORTILLA WRAP--not a PITA--with over-microwaved dry, impossible-to-chew gyro drowned in that abnormally sour "hot" sauce you get from the absolute shittiest halal carts in NYC. Like, the kind with dry, clumpy rice and stale-tasting meat. Plus, the guys did such a horrible job of making my sandwich that it all but fell apart in my hands, and the pickled veggies were sitting at the bottom of the plastic bag, because they didn't bother to close the box. Everything was so salty that my tongue actually hurt and i couldn't take more than three bites. Not that i wanted to. My tongue was still sore for about an hour afterwards. That chicken sandwich that Joel mentions in his review? Don't bother. It was just as disastrous as the gyro sandwich, except not as salty (but still way too salty). Falafel was the first thing i tried from here when it first opened, and i remember it being dry; it was like munching on carpet. Do yourself a favor and grab some REAL falafel the next time you're in the city. Or even head over to Maoz in New Brunswick. Anything's better than this shit. If you read my other reviews, you'll notice that i hardly ever use profanity. I am picky, but i try to be understanding, because no one's perfect, and some people just have lower standards, you know? But this place is a sorry excuse for an eatery *and* a grocery store. Their grocery is just run-of-the-mill staples, so standard that you'd be able to find about half of it at a generic supermarket with a decent international food aisle (i've taken a seminar in Middle Eastern food and cooking and was taught how to cook by a Moroccan woman in Morocco so i kind of know what i'm talking about). If you find yourself needing slow-cooking (i.e. not instant) couscous in a pinch, *maybe* come here, if going anywhere else is just not an option, but otherwise, don't even bother. read more

I've passed by this place numerous times off Rt. 18 and always wanted to try it. I made the mistake of checking the yelp reviews while I was waiting for my food. The other reviews about questionable falafel in a burrito wrap was totally true. There is almost no vegetables in the wrap, maybe 1 or 2 F Balls, then they just put a lot of Frank's Red Hot in it to give it flavor. Keep in mind I was starving and there was a snowstorm in the area. It did make me go from really hungry to not hungry. No stomach problems afterwards. I think this place did the job and fed me, but I really don't think I would go back again. read more

Not a bad place if you don't have time for a longer drive. The proprietor was very pleasant and helpful! They had some very interesting and tasty looking products, including za'atar and fresh dates (delicious!), which are not easy to find. We went for the zahlab mix, much harder to find, which they had! On the other hand, the store was not very clean. When lifting an individually wrapped dessert out of a cardboard box, a bug came with it (very much alive). The clientele put me off as well (my problem, I guess), from the father who walloped his son to the woman who shoved in front of me while I was checking out and waiting for the gentleman to bag my fresh dates (they are kept behind the counter in a refrigerated case). To his credit (no pun intended lol), the proprietor ignored her. I was also not comfortable with the AK47 hookah on sale, but again, my problem. I think I may opt for the longer drive next time. read more

It's a Mediterranean grocery store and deli that also sells locally made items. I've been happy with their pita and Tahini sauce. I was not happy with grape leaves in their self-serve counter area. They were dry, broken up or crushed and did not taste good. Other items in that self-serve area looked poor in quality. Just opened - it is actually a store with a kitchen in the back. Standard middle eastern sandwiches (falafel, gyro, etc...) and is inexpensive and very authentic. Gyro is served in a pita wrap (not an open sandwich) which is nice/not as messy. Falafel is good (I dont have much to compare it to as I am new to the falafel world). I am glad an ethnic place like this opened in East Brunswick - gives you more options than the many fast food places on Route 18. I like to shop around in the 5 minutes it takes them to make your sandwich(s) - Turkish delights, interesting nut/candy, etc...and good selection of homemade pita. I have also had the chicken adana - very tender. they serve all sandwiches with pickled veggies - healthier than fries and different from what I am used to. Stuffed grape leaves are pricey but good (make sure you get them from the case, not the fridge...seem fresher) And there is an entire case full of homemade pastries, which are excellent, and very dangerous as it is hard to get out of there without buying some and taking them back for later! read more

I have had their falafel sandwich from their kitchen in the back of the store. AMAZING. I have tried Middle Eastern food and falafel in many, many places and this falafel is one of the best that I have had. The sandwich is wrapped up and not open face, definitly not messy, filled with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions with an amazing sauce. The falafel itself is crunchy, flavorful, and plentiful. I also tried the baklava, and though it is not the best I have ever had, it is definitely above average. Get that with a mango juice or a carbonated bottle or can of Schweppes pineapple or apple soda and it is an extremely satisfying meal. The store itself carries standard Middle Eastern fare, including a vast selection of Hookah and accessories. I personally love all of the packaged chocolate, cookies, and marshmallows. read more

Extremely rude service/people. The cashier actually overcharged me and when I inquired about it, he gave me some BS run-around story. These guys literally lost a customer for $2. It's not about the money, it's about the principle. Everyone in the story was laughing at him. The balding guy with the glasses - he's a sheister, and not to mention, a joke. I went there once and had a bad experience, and thought hey maybe I should give them another shot. Worst idea ever. The staff is extremely unprofessional and the sweets/meat have flies all around them. I do not know how they have passed any food inspections. Hookahs are overpriced as well; best thing to do is to buy them online or on eBay. Don't bother going here. These guys are truly uncouth and do not deserve your business. read more

The Staff was very welcoming and helpful .I can find the best Mediterranean food there with a very reasonable prices and always fresh , the place is very clean .The sandwiches are very delicious and well made, with a big variety to choose. The owner is very friendly and always caring . The staff always run the whole place and make sure you're never in need of anything. It is far away from my home but I prefer to drive there and bring my stuff in the place where I find comfort and quality . Not to sound repetitive with the other recent review but this new plaza location is an upgrade to the previous location. The staff is as friendly and the owner and his family are always welcoming. The store is definitely brand spanking new with better ambiance, salad bar, and a mini cafe to boot (with reasonable prices). Terrible. I am half lebanese so I was very excited to see this store was open in my area. I would have loved to write a review of their food, but nobody would serve me. I stood there like a jerk for 5 minutes or so while a group of people spoke arabic and completely ignored me. I couldn't tell who was a customer and who worked there. Were it not for the obnoxiously loud music playing, I would have tried to speak up and get their attention, but I decided to just leave. The more I looked around, the more I realized how disheveled and dirty the place looked. I was no longer interested in eating there. I think the final straw for me was the bidets being sold in the frozen food section. I will stick with the phonecian bakery and Headquarters restaurant in north brunswick next time I need groceries or good middle eastern food read more

May be the owner is a decent man, but definitely not the people work there. Even the stuff they are selling are bad. here is my story: I went to buy some stuff including bread, I used my credit card to pay, while putting bags in my car trunk (I was redistributing the items in the bags) I noticed that the bread is having fungus!! I returned immediately there, I assumed that the people inside have no idea about that. So i told them about it, I also thought that it is that specific bag of bread that went bad for any reason. to my surprise the whole basket "where they keep the bread" was bad. I told them again that it is the whole basket. I was expecting an apology and the most important that they dump the bread away immediately. They didn't do any of that! I then picked another type of bread which seemed OK, it was cheaper than the last one by about a buck. I expected to get the difference back. but the cashier told me to pick another item so we are even! I told him I need no more items, he rudely responded "What should I do for you? you paid in credit and there is no way for me to refund you"!!! Really? is it my fault that you are having bad bread that if reported your store will be shut down? I was tired and in no mood to argue with him, so i took another item and just left away, deciding that it is my last time to go to this store. read more

Quick and easy to pick up any Egyptian/Middle Eastern foods, the location on 18 is easily accessible and There's plenty of parking. There's a variety of deli meats and cheeses. I've tried some things from the Olive bar that the owner recommended and really enjoyed everything. read more

I have never had a worst kofta and kaba sandwiches, for the price i thought that i was getting something good, but no the tihina mix was not tihina it tast like water down mayo. Those sandwiches should be in Pita bread. There should have been a difference they both taste the same, Kofta is ground beef that's put on a fresh grill not microwave or whatever he used. Kaba is meat not ground beef cut up like meat. I don't know how the othe food taste but i will not be trying them. I'm egyption and that place should not be serving any arab cooked food. I have had much much better in New Brunswick and Paterson, nj. read more
