You can find so many treats in this grocery store, it's a gem! There are middle eastern/south asian treats, spices, fruits and trinkets that you can't find easily elsewhere so I appreciate that this grocery store exists in Brooklyn, reminds me of home. Unassuming shop on the corner of 4th and Atlantic Ave close by Dunkin Donut. At first view one could easily dismiss it and think based on the signage that it's catered to the Muslim community because it seemingly carries a lot of halal products but oh my how you'll be impressed when you enter. The store boasts one of the best collections of Nubian Heritage products. When I was growing up, Nubian Heritage was Queens' only black owned book and body products store. They had two large locations in Jamaica and as things begun to change in the early 2000's they disappeared. I was pleasantly surprised to find their original soaps, body washes, shampoos and lotions here. In addition, you can also get a bevy of vitincense, sage, Plato santo and oils here. The family is super sweet, welcoming and eager to help without making you feeling like you're being profiled while I'm the store. I was also able to find Dr. Bonner's Castile soaps and Jamaican Black Castor oil at great prices about $3-4 cheaper than larger chains. I love to support small businesses by people of color. If we're not intentional about that, we loose the essence of neighborhoods. Big chains come in and neighborhoods suffer from gentrification that lacks cultural alignment. I will def be back. This is my new health/ body shop for self care products. As far as I'm concerned they have something to address just about every area of my life. read more

This was one of many trips to this "Fertile Crescent Grocery and Halal Butcher." When you enter you can see it's tight quarters. It's not very organized and there a few obstacles to navigate, but the place has hThey sell a wide variety of spices, meats and health vitamins for mid eastern shoppers. I specifically go for there oil based colognes. I love them because they last longer than water based brands. The lady behind the counter is always so pleasant. I was looking for B-12 and she had none. But that didn't stop her for opening her own bottle and sharing one with me. She is always very nice to people who visit I in my last few visits. After leaving with some "Fahrenheit" and "Cool Water" for seven dollars each, I was set. This is a gem in Brooklyn if you like good perfume or cologne. The staff may need to consider at least wearing face shields here. The counter staff bear their noses at check out and may wear nothing in other areas of the store. A face shield worn by the counter staff or the counterdivider would make it more encouraging to return to the store again. I will see what they are doing next month. This bean flour is what I went to the store for. It should make health soup for a month. read more

Though there's several other nicer looking stores on this same block to do so, I buy my incense exclusively from Fertile Crescent. They give you the greatest amount for the lowest price in the area, and their incense sticks are very well scented and burn for a very long time. I come to Atlantic Ave exclusively to stock up here and support a POC-owned small business, and I have been for like ten years now. I also used to purchase their natural butters (Shea, mango, cocoa) and scented oils when I would mix my own body care products, before I started shopping pre-made natural body care from a Black-owned online retailer. The body butters I made with the items I purchased from Fertile Crescent were comparable to the pre-made stuff I buy now. read more

Wonderful foods, authentic spices and products that you cannot easily find. All items are halal friendly for the family. The Lamb, Beef, Chicken and Turkey are freshly prepared and cut to you specifications. The butcher selections are wonderful and don't forget to mention the couscous and basmati rice prices are worth it! I used to travel all the way to Jackson heights from Bedstuy to get these authentic items that are halal and now I saved myself a 3 hour travel time by just heading downtown at Atlantic ave and stock up on our halal supplies for the family. This store has a wonderful atmosphere and you feel at home when you enter by seeing all the diverse and genuine products from all types of countries. We make a weekly trip to stock up on Ghee, Couscous, All our halal meats and poultry and sweets. What a waste of time. These people have a problem with non Muslim female shoppers. I got ignored completely when I was next in the line. On top of social distancing that is suppose to be taking place, got completely disregarded. I was next in the cash line and everyone behind me kept moseying up to give the cashier ( an Arab male) money. I was literally paying and the cashier as I was next and he would for whatever reason NOT ring up my items and take care of everyone else behind me. And everyone behind me was all Arab men, there was not one single woman on the line. Thank goodness I don't buy from the specialty stores often. Never again. Gross behavior on their part. Next time I'll just order online and I won't have to deal with such mosogonist primitive beta mentality and unprofessional behavior. read more

This place has an incredible selection of dates, and their meat counter tucked away in the back has excellent goat and lamb meat. It's very much a specialty store for the Yemeni community in the neighborhood though, so westerners may have a hard time navigating. The butcher does speak English, although you'll have a hard time getting the cuts of meat you're used to. They know the common ones but had no idea what brisket was for example. You can get great deals on spices here, which they sell practically wholesale. Good for olives and tahini as well. read more

I stopped in here to compare their prices and availability of Shea butter. When I asked the sizes of the Shea, even though there were multiple people standing around and behind the register, they virtually IGNORED me. They all (and I mean like 4 people) were talking to someone beyond where I was standing. I felt extremely disrespected, and although they had more Shea options than the store right next door, I left immediately following being ignored. Customer service definitely is not a strong suit. read more

Freshly ground lamb for $8/lb is quite the nice get; meat here is a good move. Packaged baked goods not so much. Bean pies (from the amazing Abu's) and parathas get kissed with the perfumes of the shop's oils and ointments, a disappointing fate. read more

I bought turkey breast there thinking I was doing a good thing by buying the cold cuts Halal. I usually buy turkey breast at the local Kosher supermarket. It lasts well over 7 days till it is all gone. The cold cuts I bought at this market were good about 3 days then on the 4th day the meat was changing color and starting to smell. Also the way they sliced it was really bad. So my suggestion to people is get your cold cuts from a Kosher market not a Halal place like this. Maybe because of lack of demand they keep the meat too long because I also got bad cold cuts from another Halal place years ago. read more

I've been buying meat for a few years here. They always have a huge selection of Halal meats, very fresh. Today I bought some turkey wings which look awesome by the way. I also buy their dates and nuts, huge huge selection which is very nice. read more

My go to local small biz for so many things. olive oil, grapeseed oil (try it as a moisturizer) ...Feta! natural red henna! grains, almonds and other bulk, lots of tea. Cocoa, I even found gum arabic, which is used in food but I use for watercolor painting. Olives and a lot of variety for the size, nice folks. beats Trader Joe's for spices, nuts etc. There are some essential oils which are not as good as the expensive kind, but not expensive. And I love supporting the Arabic community in these times. read more

Overall a very good store, high quality foods, but had problems with skimmers in their ATM. Do not use their ATM unless u want to be a victim of credit fraud. read more
