I hired Affatato Asphalt after hearing about my neighbor's positive experience with Jeff, the salesman, and seeing the quality of their work. While the new circular driveway they installed looks nice, unfortunately, my overall experience has been disappointing. When the crew was finishing up, the roller machine cracked my brand-new apron that the Town of Brookhaven had just installed as part of the first street repaving in 60 years. Jeff assured me they would replace the damaged side, which they did, but the color has never matched. I was told it would blend over time, yet eight months later it's still very noticeably different (as shown in the photos). I also noticed that the freshly paved town street was left with scratches and holes after the work. When I contacted Jeff, I was told they couldn't do anything about it since it's town property. The damage, however, was clearly caused during their job. What has been most frustrating is the lack of follow-up. After waiting through the winter, I tried reaching Jeff a couple of times but never received a call back. The workmanship on my driveway itself was good, but the way problems were handled left me feeling dismissed and disappointed. I wrote a beautiful review for Affatato paving but retracted it. my driveway is cracking with 3 and 4 foot cracks. blacktop is separating from Belgium blocks. sealcoating doesn't stick to the blacktop. I started the complaining with texts and phone calls within 90 days but they only honor what they think they should. my previous driveway lasted 25 years. Toni Ann did tell me that there was an ingredient missing from the blacktop that season. so disappointed in this company. job was over 10,000 dollars and it's falling apart. not an honorable company. Great installation - no problem, great work. That said, don't bother with anything light-colored, as once there's any kind of heat (aka 'Summer") the adhesives will run and that beautiful, fresh $8,000 paving job will look like the photo. Yes, we did call several times, but El Zippo. Try an adhesive-colored stone. Obviously something gray. That might work. read more

I paid this company to replace my driveway. After completion,there was an area sinking in. It took over a dozen calls to get this company back to my house. Upon investigation we realized they damaged a sprinkler line during the install. it cost be $650 to have the sprinkler line fixed. Affatato came back and patched the driveway which looks horrible. Now my brand new driveway looks like a patch job. The lady in the office said "We are not responsible for any damage, it's in our contract!". Here I go. From the beginning, Sales rep Jeff came to the house gave his pitch and against people telling me not to go with them I did anyway. First mistake. At first everything was going good. After 2 years the apron fell apart, had it repaired for $750.00. along with my sprinkler system destroyed another $750.00 to repair. After 4 years major splits in my driveway. Sales rep looked at it and they came and sealed it. made no difference. They tell me after 4 years its normal. All together over $10,000 and my driveway looks awful. Stay away. read more

These are Affatato driveways after 5 years. The pictures tell you all you need to know. After we complained, Jeff came back and had his guys put some black powder stuff in cracks to fill them in (that stuff didn't last even a month). Would never recommend them to anyone. First 3 photos are my driveway, 2nd 3 are my neighbors driveway. At least they are consistent with their work. We needed to replace our driveway. It's a HUGE LONG driveway. Affatato gave us the best price. Actually 1500 less than the lowest estimate we received. We of course were reticent. Well...they did a great job. Surpassed all expectations. They came with a full polite, professional crew. The work was excellent. Nothing negative to say here. They even cleaned up after they were through. We have a fancy brickwork apron. They cleaned the bricks with a brush to ensure tar was not on them!! So nice in this day and age to be able to comment in such a positive way about a company and it's staff and crew. read more

Base where the driveway meets the street was not sealed and the pitch allowed puddling at the top (about 1" deep). DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! They showed up on a breezy, 42 degree December 2014 day (Too cold to pave) and took their time about getting the roller on the pavement. The asphalt did not get compacted correctly because it was too cold by the time they rolled it. A couple of days later large amounts of water began seeping up through the asphalt on the sloped portion of my driveway.This continued all winter. The limestone from the base and the seepage is evident on the top of the driveway. Over the course of the winter the entire driveway began to disintegrate due to water freezing and thawing INSIDE the pavement. In the spring as the asphalt warmed my cars have been sinking up to 1/2 inch into the pavement where we park and every time we turn the cars around on the driveway the asphalt surface rips up. It is so soft that my kids roller blades leave indentations. A 75lb. child on roller-blades should not leave indentations on a proper surface. Additionally, the asphalt mixture they used had some porous rocks in it and over the winter these rocks absorbed water and shattered leaving the entire surface severely pock-marked. Affatato sent their rep out to look at it (I believe his name was Jeff). He said that there was something wrong in the mix and there shouldn't be water coming up from below. He told that they would check with the asphalt company they got the mix from. In his opinion there was a problem with the mix. He was sure they would be tearing it up and repaving. He said he would get back to me in 2 weeks. That was 1 1/2 months ago. The company president recently met with my contractor and inspected the driveway while I was not home. I have been told by my contractor that Affatato claims there is nothing wrong with the driveway and will not repair anything. I have many pictures to prove all this. I will give Affatato the opportunity to correct the problem quickly. If Affatato Paving will not re-pave the driveway I will pursue the matter with the department of consumer affairs and then take legal action. It was a mistake to pave on such a cold day and the asphalt was left to sit for long periods of time before the heavy roller was used to compact it. Companies should stand behind their work and make it right when they make mistakes. I will update when I hear from Affatato. If I don't hear from them quickly I will start legal action. I very rarely write a review on anything, although I use reviews all the time, mostly restaurants. I checked on this company after calling them from an advertisement in the local Pennysaver. Full disclosure, to my surprise the salesman and I went to high school together. They gave me a price of what I thought was fair. They came to my home three times afterwards, to rip up and lay bluestone, to do masonry work, and finally to pave the new driveway. The whole process took about five weeks allowing for weather. Three crews in all came to my house. Hardworking respectful gentleman who cleaned up after themselves. It looks great. All my neighbors have said it looks great. Even my mailman paid us a compliment. I know it's difficult to make everyone happy. But if unhappy customers are the only ones to leave a review, then perhaps the whole forum has some flaws. Thanks for a good job. We thank Mr. Jeff from Alfatato Paving for designing a cool layout for our driveway, so we can park 3 cars side by side in front of garage including our GMC truck. At their office they had different types of Pavers laid out as samples to see the look on ground. Their workman ship is good and as promised they arrive to do the job. We could not wait to see the final stage which was done yesterday afternoon on a perfect April day! Hope blacktop settles nicely without any issues in future. Sorry forgot his name, the main leader of the crew was nice enough to explain my quires along the way. And other workers were very professional doing there steps in the process. This company is not professional by any means. I called for a driveway estimate and was told by Chris Thursday at 7:30 AM. I was called Wednesday afternoon saying that Thursday doesn't work as well for them can I move it to Friday at 7:30 AM. Due to the fact that I was working I wasn't able to call them until later that day. I left a message stating that unfortunately Friday will not work for me so will have to leave it for Thursday which On their voicemail they said will leave it for Thursday or Friday will work better. Thursday morning comes my wife is up early waiting for them to come for 7:30 AM appointment and they called at 7:47 in the morning to go hello yeah we're not gonna make it just got your message. Are you kidding me this is ridiculous. I didn't even bother to reschedule the estimate I have no idea how much they charge etc. but what I do know is that they are not reliable so I could see this foreshadowing the future. I have not experienced this with any other company I have no interest in using this company for anything because you could tell they're heavily unreliable and do not stick to their word. read more

I now have to hire someone to cut a hole in my driveway so I may have access to my cesspool lid , this will cost me an additional $1100. Very disappointed read more

I had to take them to the BBB and Consumer Affairs. The ran out of asphalt leaving a 10 X 10 piece of my driveway undone, they came back a few days later to add a 10 X 10 patch. In the spring I had grass growing through my driveway, when I called to speak with my salesman (Jeff) he told me to go Fu** myself and hung up. After going to the BBB they replaced the driveway. Unfortunately, the previous reviewer is pretty much on target. The issue I had with their work pretty much has to do with lack of follow up, carelessness, and not really feeling like I was treated like a valued customer. When they cut the cement apron on my garage, they didn't put anything up to keep all the cement dust from covering everything in my garage. This was a big deal, something I'm still dealing with to this day. Everything I go to pick up in the garage -- tools, boxes, rags -- everything has a coating of cement dust on it. They let the cement truck drive over my front lawn instead of using a wheelbarrow to pour the walkway. I have called twice about the large ruts that the truck left in my yard (the second time I called, I was told "this is the first I'm hearing about this"), and despite the fact that I was finally told they'd be back to put some fill in for me, they haven't even contacted me. Just careless on both parts, not concerned for the customer. When it came time to schedule my paving (a process which took many many weeks), I was told they had tried to contact me many times, yet no one had actually called. They said "your voicemail was full or something." Um, no. When paving was finally scheduled, I was told they would show up between 7am and 7:30am. At 6:40am, someone was pounding on my door very loudly, waking my 4-year-old. He did not even give me a chance to get to the door. When I told him rather angrily that I had been told to expect him between 7 and 7:30, his reply was, "sorry, we have a lot of driveways to do today." And evidently, that meant making sure my driveway was done very quickly because the workers left a large dip over a food in diameter in the driveway that fills with 1/2 inch of water every time it rains, and it collects dirt. They might have been in a rush, but I have to look at this "error" for the next 20 years or so. I saw my initial contact twice - once to estimate the job, and once for a very brief time during the tearout and setting the framing. He was not there for the cement pouring or the paving, which was definitely an issue. Paid them a lot of money because I thought they'd do the job right. Overall, I'd give them a 6 out of 10. you know, in this age of social media, it amazes me that any company would perform a service poorly and then not do something to correct it before the customer hits the internet to share with the world what they have done. Case in point, we recently had to have our driveway redone. while i got 3 estimates, we decided to go with Affatato paving because of there reputation. well apparently they think there reputation allows them to give the worst customer service in the world. i can understand it you screw one thing up, but to screw up the entire process is a MAJOR PROBLEM! 1. it should not take 4 months to tear up and repave a driveway. 2. when your employees knock over a tree with there tractor, they should not leave said tree at the end of the customers driveway for him to deal with (especially when that customer is on crutches) 3. you should NEVER tear up a customers driveway, and then tear up and pave a driveway a block away before finishing the first customers driveway. 4. you should not wait every step of the way for the customer to call and complain before anything gets done. 5. you should not (after all the above have happened) finally show up to pave said driveway and tell the customer that "we are going to have to cut your brand new fence because the way WE graded your driveway, the new driveway wont fit under it. (like i am going to let that happen) and last but not least, when you call and ask if your satisfied with the work and the customer tells you ALL these things, maybe something a little better than a "well i guess we dropped the ball on this one" is in order. I just had my driveway completed by Affatato Asphalt Paving, I definitely would recommend them to anyone looking for a driveway. We live in Eastport and called numerous other companies, either they had no idea where Eastport was or they were no shows. Jeff our estimator was actually early and offered numerous options and went over the job in detail. We signed the contract and the job was started and completed within 3 1/2 weeks. I hired this company because the price was fair & I have seen their signs over Long Island. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. Pay a little more. They removed my existing driveway & widened my driveway by a foot. They ripped up my sod & a sprinkler head. The removal of sod disrupted the integrity of my brick path. I now have a sprinkler head in my driveway. How crazy is that. Kevin keeps promising to come & put down sod & then finish the driveway with the paving. It is going on 6 weeks & I still have a dirt driveway, with a sprinkler head in the driveway. I called multiple times & they finally scheduled the sod to be put down on 7/13. It was raining at 4pm & I called to ask if they are still coming. I was told YES. They did not show up or call. This is a poorly run business. Run the other way if you ned a driveway. read more

I hired this company to pave over my stoop and add a walkway/patio. The craftsmanship was horrible to say the least. They left unfinished work, did not line up cuts properly and instead of adding a step to the bottom of the stoop they used an 8 inch cement rise that caused the rest of the patio to slope at a gradient similar to a wheelchair ramp (certainly not an area to be used as a patio to sit on). This paving company is will know and their signs are seen everywhere. We choice them because of their reputation and they were not the cheapest by far. We had a long driveway line with Belgium block, the old driveway torn up and a new base put down and about 10 days later the new asphalt put down. They come with large crews so the work went quick and the damage that was down to the walkway was fix with no problem when the Belgium block was put down. After everything was done and the rain come the driveway flooded with water and we noticed waves in the blacktop. I called the company everyday for two weeks and no one got back to me, but finally the salesman come and said he didn't see any water from the pictures we took after the rain. Long story short we took them to small claims court and agree to one postponement and the second hearing no one from the company showed up and showing the proof we had the case was won. I signed a contract for a new driveway on 3/15/2014. They were to remove the old driveway, put down and grade a base and then 2-3 weeks later repave the driveway. On 4/11/2014 they ripped up the driveway and put down the base. It is now 5/21/2014 and they haven't been back. I have called repeatedly, they promise a call back and do not return calls. They have 1/2 the money for the total job and to have another contractor come to just do the paving would cost too much. I have piles of dirt in my garage and being brought into the house. My grandchildren cannot ride their bikes on the driveway. My belgium block border is breaking from service trucks, etc hitting them without the asphalt to support it. The front of the house is unsightly. They told me when I called that they had people still waiting from the fall for their driveways (great excuse, by the way) There was no mention of these poor customers when I signed the work contract in March.
