It took almost 9 months for them to rectify it, and I think the only reason they came was because I finally called and gave them 4 weeks to correct it, or I'd be contacting the BBB and Consumer Affairs and whoever else I needed to call. read more

I really wanted to give them more stars then I did, but there were just so many things that I didn't like. First off, I am satisfied how the driveway came out. Billy and Tom were nice and the price was comparable to a few other quotes I received. Now the issues: They need to work on their scheduling. They only give you one days notice and once they gave me a few hours notice and then get upset I won't be home. At the quote, Billy told me they could move my mailbox and grade my lawn, they didn't and they didn't. Part of my grass died because I couldn't reinstall my sprinklers until the land was graded. After a few weeks I did it myself. They put the stakes for the caution tape right in the road so I can't wait for the weeds to appear in the hole they made. And worse, the screwed up on the apron. The blocks were asymmetrical. Bill was nice enough to come a few days later to look and agreed that it was. He owned up to the mistake but they didn't come and fix it until 2 1/2 weeks after. I don't know, if I'm a company that made a mistake I would try and rectify the issue promptly. Anyway, a 3-4 week quoted job became 7 weeks. Maybe I caught them at a wrong time and maybe the rain played a factor, I just felt like I wasn't important to them as a customer. Would I recommend, no. But I wouldn't say not to go with them. read more

When searching for any company performing work on your home, of course you want the best. We went to a few companies for estimates for a driveway expansion but all of them made us feel uneasy, we're scam-like, and seemed to be taking advantage of us. We contacted Fifth Avenue Paving, referred to us by our oil burner man. Alan met with us, he's the owner, he was very nice and professional. He didn't try any of that slimy "used car salesmen" stuff, and didn't try to sell us on anything we didn't want or couldn't afford. He offered experienced opinions, explained what could be done and how. We were very impressed by his expertise and genuine kindness. We decided that night that we were going with Fifth Avenue Paving. From there Tom took over and handled scheduling and correspondence, he too is very sweet. Each step of the driveway project had a different specialized crew; all of which were on time, very nice, professional, clean in their work, skilled, and respectful to our home. Between all the steps, it was very quick install. Of course a driveway isn't an overnight project, things need to set and be leveled and all that. The entire process was painless and done in a timely manner. When the crews were here, they didn't stop working for a second! Timeline for our driveway, of course every driveway is different! I got a complete new driveway, front porch and walkway done and could not be happier with the job they did. Everyone who showed up were professionals and did their work quickly and efficiently over a four visit project spanning almost two months. After breaking up and removing the old asphalt, a base layer was put down and then had to settle for 4-6 weeks. In the meantime, we add brick pave edging and had the whole porch done in one long day. FYI, asphalt projects are dicy and depend to a great deal on the weather and tends to throw off the companies schedule. The work tended to drag a bit, but they stayed in touch and when ready, came and did the job to my complete satisfaction. Fifth Ave. Paving did our driveway in Blue Point. They were great for the initial quote and 1st payment to start the work. After that it seemed chaotic and unorganized. There was no real communication especially after the final payment was received. The quality of the work was not what they promised. There were concerns after the work was completed but took at least 2 weeks before we would get anyone to truly respond,. Then the owner himself shows up a day after the scheduled appointment with an attitude and claims all is good with the work and that our concerns are unwarranted. We had concerns about how the water was puddling on what was suppose to be a slight downgrade and severely puddling at the bottom of the driveway skirt. Also these concerns are multiplied when there is freezing temperatures. All things that we were assured would not be a problem when the initial quote was given. These concerns we visually noticeable when it rained. The owner stated he would return after the next rain to see what we were talking about. He never returned and would not return any phone calls or emails. The service and communication is bad. The quality of work that was received is not worth the time, money and aggravation. Once they received our CASH, it was beyond horrible. We wanted to use a Local company to keep local businesses strong. It seems that unless you have a huge Job for them, they don't have the time, accept to collect payment. If I could give a Negative Feedback, I would. Not impressed . Had a new driveway with pavers and new apron built by them a couple of years ago. After the first winter the apron pavers started coming up. I called to have them fix them and they didn't show up when they were expected to. I called again and they showed up a week later, fixed the pavers and I let them seal the driveway. What a mistake. They got tar on the new pavers and refused to come back to repair. Don't use these guys. read more

I wrote a negative review about this company and I see they found a way to remove it ! I had a 4pm appointment for an estimate and they never showed up . I wrote about the situation in my last review and the owner responded and stated that I need to check my voicemails because he says they left me a voicemail at 2:30 pm to cancel . Even if they did you cancel a 4pm appointment at 2:30 pm the day of the appointment? I can assure you no one left me any voicemail. As a matter of fact I called them at 3:30 pm to tell them I was home and they girl who answered said she would let them know . If they canceled and she was supposedly the one who left me the voicemail wouldn't she indicate that when I called her at 3:30? Like I said they have a bad attitude because they probably thought the job wasn't going to be big enough for them . Had they showed up they would have found out it was a relatively big job . It was a full deck removal and I wanted to replace the old pre fabricated deck with Cambridge pavers . I'm sure the job was anywhere from $15,000 to $20,000 . read more

Although my fiancé and I had an idea of what we wanted (our driveway was a filthy mess and had to be completely ripped up and re done), billy made some professional suggestions that we ended up LOVING!! They told us they were about 3 weeks out because of the rain and they were right, never gave us the run around and always kept us in the loop. Our long, steep driveway was end of life. Contacted 4 firms, each visited, gave a quote. Selected Fifth Avenue to do the work. Alan worked with me to "re-imagine" the driveway with a spacious new turnout and an expanded paver apron from the garage to the front door, while saving on cost by keeping most existing Belgian block in place (only 5th Ave suggested that big cost saver). Ran a drain line under new drive so gutters no longer discharge onto drive. Work was done efficiently and cleanly, only schedule disruption was due to weather. Crew put in 3 light posts (8 foot 4x4 down 3 feet) and took away about 2+ cubic yards of bricks and blocks, neither of which were in the original contract. All persons I came into contact with were consistently professional, respectful and friendly. Would use again. read more

I received from 5th Avenue Paving an estimate for a new driveway on April 8th. The job was confirmed the following week. 5th Ave. stated the job would start in a few weeks. Around May 1st I contacted the company to inquire on start date. The receptionist whom answered the phone informed me they were backed up due to rain and said it would be another couple of weeks. The week of May 16th (since I had not heard from 5th Avenue) I called and spoke again to the receptionist. She then informed me they should be able to start next week. On 5/24 I received a call from Tom at 5th Avenue Paving, he stated they could not do the job because we are not on the schedule. When I inquired why we were not on the schedule, Tom at 5th Avenue said I had called him three weeks ago and cancelled the job. I informed him I had not done such a thing, I had never called to cancel, in fact only to inquire about start date. Tom repeatedly accused me of calling him and cancelling. When I had insisted I NEVER spoken with him and ONLY to the receptionist twice as well as the sales person Bill he then changed his excuse to say they were cancelling because "they were not interested in the job anymore". CONCLUSION: Beware of 5th Avenue Paving Company, very unprofessional. I look at it this way, perhaps I'm better off not using an unprofessional dishonest company which will lead to unprofessional substandard workmanship. read more
