I had been looking for someone to install my fireplace stone after having the wood burning stove installed a year ago. After many tries no one came through, either too busy or never responded with a quote, That was until we went to Ocean Stone and Fireplace and met Paula who was responsive, informative and so helpful. Hiring a company like this is a MISTAKE. *Buyer beware* Since 2015 I have done tens of thousands of dollars of work with Joe in my home. The quality of work was initially good and I trusted him and his company. I referred them to everyone I knew. THIS WAS A MISTAKE! In 2022 I had the coping done around my pool. The mortar in the joints was never consistent and immediately began to crack. Things happen. I called Joe to have someone repair the mortar, and he was very busy. I tried ALL OF 2023 and no one came and they kept putting me off. This year I called and I was initially told I would have to pay for the repairs. I was shocked but I guess Joe and his company are now "big shots". I asked for an estimate. None ever came and when I called several times...they made it clear that they weren't interested in doing the work that was not done properly. Looking back, the paver job I did needed repair after a huge sink hole emerged. Joe reluctantly had some kid come fix it. He asked for ME to pay him for the day!! Consumer/customer beware!!!! All of the poor reviews are directly on point!!! The only reason why I'm giving them one star is bc I had to or else I wouldn't be able to post this review. I should have trusted the other reviewers before wasting my time with this sham of a company!!! I had called for service of my two indoor fireplaces...I was given a quote for TWO fireplaces and lo and behold, the ole' bait and switch...because when the technician came (also did not speak English but not his fault...he's just a hard worker who's employed by this TERRIBLE company) I was told he's only instructed to service ONE fireplace!!! So I called the office and spoke to two highly unprofessional employees, who tried to make me pay double!!! Ona the receptionist and DONNA the manager/supervisor could not have been more rude if they tried. Terrible horrible company. Run, don't walk, away from this dishonest and disrespectful business. The most UNPROFESSIONAL company I almost worked with...blessing in disguise that they chose not to work with us! Went there in December...sat with Donna, picked out the stone and new doors we wanted for our fireplace...she was going to have Joe (the owner) call us in 1 week to come out to measure...mid January- no word from them, I inquire and apparently they forgot about us...I should have walked away then...January 24th, Joe , the owner comes out to take measurements and we review exactly what we want - I even had photos from their showroom to confirm we are on the same page...I wait and wait for the estimate which I never get, follow up with a phone call (they never followed up to make sure estimate was received - do these people want business?!?!) I finally receive the estimate on 2/18 which is impossible to understand so I need to make another trip to their showroom to confirm the order...I get there and review it with Paula only to see that measurements, styles and basically everything was wrong...to the point that we even questioned if they mixed up paperwork - they did not - our order was just 100% wrong...and this was the OWNER that put together the order. Based on recommendations, I chose to try to stick it out with them but there was 1 issue after another, making recommendations and then realizing the recommendations they made were actually FIRE HAZARDS!! Providing options for doors that are not made for our type of fireplace...providing options for hearth stones that are not even made in the size we need...literally one issue after another...but yet, foolishly we were hoping their work would prove the aggravation worth it...today, almost 1 week into construction when the fireplace is supposed to be worked on in 2 weeks Donna, the owners wife has the NERVE to call me and say they don't want to work with us that they don't think they can complete the job in a way we would be pleased with...I am FLOORED that this company has any decent reputation and will be glad to give my money to a company who has a sense of customer service and values relationships...Ocean Stone and Fireplace and absolutely Donna, DO NOT! Joseph, the owner, is a terrible human being. From his lack of respect to his stubborn attitude, I was astonished by how demeaning he could be. His company is not professional & didn't come to evaluate my fireplace ahead of time. I added the gas line the best I could but his installation guy looked at it and said it was wrong. When I called to reschedule a time for delivery, Joseph demanded more money. He has my 50% depost and is now refusing to install the gas insert I've waited over 2 weeks for. Victoria took $1,800.00 of our hard earned money and then wanted more upon installation. After shopping around multiple Fireplace stores we chose Ocean Stone. Joe and his team were great from start to finish. Being active duty military, Joe was gracious in both planning and budgeting to fit our needs and going further by applying a military discount, which in today's market is far and few between in dealing with small business owners. Hands down hes a gentleman, and from reading some of these disturbing comments about his demeanor I couldn't disagree more.
