Affinity used to be good in 2018-2019. However, the quality and professionalism dropped after COVID. I decided to never go back to Affinity after I brought my elderly dog in to see the clinic. He was having seizures and they gave him antibiotics for a UTI. The owner of the practice talked down to me when I asked to better understand the treatment plan (like why were they focusing on a UTI when my dog was not showing any signs of this....and he was having seizures). She yelled at me and told me that I didn't know what I was talking about. A few days later my dog had a grand mal seizure and I took him to the closest emergency vet clinic. The vets there did a thorough investigation and discovered that my dog had advanced cancer with several tumors - in his liver and brain. They showed us the evidence and walked us through our options. We made the heart breaking decision to put him down shortly after the visit with the emergency vet. I still wonder why Affinity never saw the signs of him having advanced cancer. Long story short, please do not go to this vet clinic. They will give you the run around to get more money out of you, even at the expense of neglecting your pet's health. read more

Disappointed and Disrespected at Affinity Veterinary Center My 10-week-old Shiba Inu puppy, Kota, injured her foot while playing. Due to our recent adoption, we hadn't established a regular vet yet, but Affinity was familiar from taking our cats there. We called them after-hours and they were able to see us, which we initially appreciated. We brought her in last night and the vet we saw was nice, however, she couldn't definitively diagnose Kota's injury. Although we agreed to pay for X-rays hoping for a clear answer, even the X-rays left doubt. Frustratingly, the vet then offered for a further, expensive evaluation, even though when I asked she said it wouldn't change the treatment plan either way. This insistence on additional charges without definitive benefit felt unsettling and, frankly, money-grabbing. We opted out of that and they wrapped Kotas leg in a bandage which looked very bulky. They also gave us a "boot" to put over the bandage to "keep it dry", which was made from some sort of plastic, medical bag that was clearly used as it had a peeled off sticker on it and was laced with gauze through slits they cut through the bag. It seemed very strange. They also emphasized to make sure Kota continued to walk on her leg with the bandage. This morning it became clear, however, that Kota could not walk with the way her leg was bandaged. I called back to express concerns, and they said we could bring her back to take another look. My sister brought her back in today for the second visit. She saw a different vet today who I later learned is the owner of the practice. Her demeanor was aggressive and condescending. She accused us of "babying" Kota and questioned our understanding of pain. Instead of addressing the issue with the bandage, she dismissed our concerns and made my sister feel like a nuisance. To top it all off, the owner claimed Kota needed a rabies shot stating it was required by law. When she left the room my sister called me to ask about what to do because she knew we already had planned to get a rabies shot at the place where Kota was adopted. I told her to decline the shot. When she did the vet/practice owner lashed out at both my sister and her own staff stating "now you're going to have to redo all the paperwork" creating an unprofessional and hostile atmosphere. After hearing how the second appointment went from my sister, I called the office to try to better understand what happened and Dr. Meredith declined to speak with me. We ended up paying additional fees for a pointless second visit and left feeling disrespected, frustrated, and worried about Kota's well-being. This is not the kind of care I expect from a veterinarian, especially one entrusted with my beloved puppy. While the other staff at Affinity may be friendly, the owner's behavior is unacceptable. I urge anyone considering this practice to look elsewhere. There are plenty of other qualified vets who prioritize animal welfare and treat their clients with respect, something Affinity sorely lacks. read more

So if your small business suffered a minor blow and you're worried about how you'll make if financially... there are still small measures of assist. I had a first appointment set up for my dog, with a 2 week wait, which was cancelled by the vet on the day of the appointment due to an emergency. That was totally fine but meant I had to reschedule, and they would only put us on the back of the queue which would be another 3 weeks away. They were completely unwilling to accommodate considering they had cancelled on us. But that's not even close to the worst part. To reschedule we had 3 communications: 1. A short back and forth text conversation (where I sent 3 text messages) trying to reschedule sooner. At this point they began pushing me towards other veterinary clinics. 2. An 8 minute phone call when I decided it would be faster to work out over the phone, in which they continued to push me to go elsewhere, but ended up with agreement to set up another appointment at the aforementioned 3 weeks out. However we did not set up an official appointment. 3. A final 2 minute call where I attempted to set up an official appointment, at which time they told me "the machines were down and they would call tomorrow" Later that night I received a call that they would no longer be taking my dog as a patient due to me being too high maintenance. Due to 3 text messages and 10 minutes on the phone. Never in my life have I experienced customer service like this. From what I hear, these people are good quality in terms of actual animal care, but they will treat you like trash if you take more than 10 minutes of their time. read more

Prior to coming to Affinity Veterinary Center, I had seen a handful of other vets and even had my dog examined at the University of Pennsylvania. He had suffered for a couple of years with terrible gastrointestinal issues. No one could seem to get to the bottom of the issue other than just treating the symptoms with a suspected diagnosis of bowel disease. Dr. Meredith recommended an endoscopy on my dog and was able to provide a definitive diagnosis of a type of inflammatory bowel disease. Along with continuing to treat any symptoms she put him on medication to help prevent the symptoms in the first place. This was really a life changer for him and me. I've been a continual client since then, which has been seven or eight years at this point. They are responsive, extremely caring, extremely knowledgeable, and despite being there at times for my dog being ill, the visits are always pleasurable. And my dog doesn't seem to mind them at all and believe me he's not the most friendly one. I'm thankful that I found a place such as this for the care of my pet and any pets to come! read more

The level of care and concern they show for our pet is above and beyond the level of care and service we've received elsewhere. Beware I am highly diappointed in the way the owner and her husband (the hospital administrator) handled a very serious error during a routine exam which landed my dog in ICU. I took my healthy three year old dog to Affinity for a routine exam. The exam started out typical with the vet tech asking questions and reviewing what would be done during the visit. She informed me that the charts indicated my dog was due for both the Rabbies and Lepto vaccine. I told her I only wanted the Rabbies done on this visit due to her small size (8 pounds). She documented my wishes and said she will schedule another visit in a month for the lepto. Next, my dog was taken to another room for her exam. After about 30 minutes, I started to get really nervous. A The vet tech popped her head in to inform me that they were having trouble finding a vein for my dogs routine blood work and they would be wrapping up shortly. I asked if she was ok and informed her that this had never happened before. She assured me she was fine and that the vet would be done soon. About fifteen more minutes passed when the vet brough my dog back into the room. Again, I asked if she was ok and she said, "She is fine. We just had trouble finding a vein becasue she is so small. We had to poke her many, many times and each time we would another vein would collapse." Again, I expressed concern and informed her this had never happened before. At this point in time she put my dog in my arms and my dog collapsed. She rushed her to the back to work on her. I was beside myself in panic. About thirty minutes later, she came in to inform me that she called Hope Hospital and they felt she should be taken in for observation. Again, I asked what was going on? Is it due to the amount of times she was poked? She just said, she was unsure and needs to go in for observation and that Hope is expecting me." My dog had bandages up all four legs due to all of the blood draws. I took my dog to Hope and gave my name. Suddenly, an announcement was made over the loud speaker for Triage to come to the front doors. Three worker literally came running to the door to assist and take her back. When the doctor called me she informed me they hooked her up to an IV and were treating her for Anaphylactic shock. I asked, "Is that what is happening?" She said, "Yes, she spoke to the vet who informed her that she collapsed while she was administering the second vaccine. My dog was kept overnight and treated. Fortunatly, I was able to retrieve her and keep her under observation at my house the following day. I emailed Dr. Meredith and inform her of the series of unfortunate events that occurred. I expressed that I was writing for two puposes and had two specific requests: 1. That proper protocols would be put into place so no other pet parents expereinces what I had experienced with my pup. 2. I asked if Affinity would meet me halfway and cover the $450 routine vet charge as I not had to pay a $900 ICU bill. I felt I was being fair and nice and understanding. I expressed empathy for the vet as I know errors are part of being human and I feel for the medical profession because their errors are weighted so much more heavily. She was a nice vet who made a mistake as people often due. She said the hospital administrator woud contact me and do an investigation. Shortly after, her husband sent me a message and said he is sorry that I had a "Less than Stellar" experience at Affinity and would like to speak to me on the phone. Long story short, he gave me his cell phone but never picked up or returned my countless calls or follow-up emails. Each of which were written with kindness and respect (Until I reached my limit on day 8 or 9 where I informed him that I felt is was completely disrectful and unacceptable that he was not returning my daily calls and emails. I informed him that I have refrained from writing a review about this situaiton to date.) This finally sparked his attention. He wrote back to me within two minutes, with a rather odd rant about how much it costs for vets to go to school and how they don't get paid as much as doctors and how they have to deal with emotionally fueled pet parents. Meanwhile, all of communications were kind and understanding and patient up until that point. And when I was undertanding he couldn't give me the time of day, but when I was more direct he responded within two minutes. In the end he said the only was he would cover the $450 is if I signed a very detailed non disclosure document. I was fine as I thought it was going to be about refraining from writing a review but it was much more than that. I filed a dispute with my credit card company and since I had all of the documentation, the investigated and refunded the $450. Worst part of this story is that I later I found out that my dog was not even due for rabbies for 9 more months according to their own documentations. The office is clean and cute to boot! Our dog has never been nervous or scared while visiting. Last year we had a emergency where he impaled himself while running through the woods. In short, they should rename themselves "Affinity for Money". I have never been able to take my dog in without a bill of $300-$400. What's worse is that they said they would not refill a maintenance prescription my dog has been on for years without coming in and paying another $300-$400 for bloodwork when I just had it done a few months earlier. I will not say anything bad about their ability to care for your dog but, remember to bring you wallet. I'm sure there are vets out there that would prioritize your dogs health over money, and not hold you hostage to refill a prescription that the dog has been on for years. read more

If I could give zero stars- I absolutely would. If your pet is in need of serious care, do your pet (and yourself) a favor and go somewhere else. I have never experienced "care" (or lack there-of) even remotely close to what we experienced at Affinity. We brought our dog in, in serious distress. The service we got was appalling. After providing our dog with below sub par care, we were charged and sent home. Following morning we were told that Affinity would be emailing us our dogs medical records and that there was nothing further they could provide for our dog. Oh, and via voicemail. Not a check-in to see how our dog may be doing; nothing. I'm appalled and will ensure that this information is spread. read more

This vet has zero concern for you animal. They care more about charging an arm and a leg to keep the office looking stylish and up to date. I brought my distressed animal in and was greeted by a terrified looking doctor who said time and time again, "your going to have to bring him somewhere else." She had no regard for the pain my dog was in. She quickly gave him a shot and basically told me to leave. Later that night I had to take my dog to Hope Emergency because of the medication my dog was given. We have a 15 year old Bichon and had been bouncing around from our primary vet to a specialist for several months. Bello (the dog) had scratched his cornea and rubbed all of the fur off his eye orbit. after several months of going back and forth, not to say the several thousand dollars. we deiced to try a new vet. So we went to Affinity Vet since it was on the way home from work. Within several minutes of starting the exam the vet said your dog has a skin yeast infection and is scratching his forearms on his face, and not scratching his eye with his forearm. Same action but a different root cause. I am glad to say that Bello is now a 15 1/5 year old Bichon and is doing very well thanks to Dr. Meredith! read more

My dogs LOVE Dr. Meredith and her staff. And if anyone would have a reason not to like them, my younger dog would. Yet she still responds with joy every time we enter Affinity Vet. Here's the story. We rescued two dogs within days of one another. The first is a very, very big, scary looking dog. Dr. Meredith and her staff responded to the big, formerly abused boy with immediate love and affection. He soaked it up. Days later we got a second dog. On day number 3, before I got her into Dr. Meredith, I ended up in another dog emergency room in the middle of the night. Something was wrong with our little girl. The pet ER told us it was kennel cough, gave her some meds and sent her home. I gave her the meds and followed their instructions, part of which was to allow her access to the older dog. A day and a half later as we sat eating dinner, I noticed that the puppy was looking even worse. I sat on the floor with her and held her instead of eating my meal. Within minutes all of us agreed that I had to rush her to Affinity Vet Center. I left my family with our dinner company and got to Affinity. When Dr. Meredith and her staff saw her, I could tell something was wrong with our little girl. It turns out our girl had been misdiagnosed and she had been suffering with pneumonia for quite some time. I could see that they were deeply moved by my puppy's plight. Dr. Meredith was very gentle with me and told me that our little girl might not make it through the night. I couldn't believe how attached I had already become to this dog. It was hard to leave her there but our girl needed IVs to save her life. She ended up having to stay there for a few days on IV. The pneumonia was bad and it was quite some time before her lungs fully cleared. (It was weeks before her lungs were 100% cleared, if I recall correctly.) I came to visit my little girl daily. I often showed unannounced yet never saw any time when she was not being cared for. Each subsequent visit there, our little girl acts as if she is seeing a long lost friend! She is beside herself with joy when she sees them all. You'd think that with her experience there it might be a negative place for her to visit but when we pull up there, she can't WAIT to go in and be adored by her fans. (At least that is the way she acts when she is around them.) As for the older, big, scary dog, he is happy for all the care they lavish on him, too. He had been pretty underweight when we got him and his coat was non too healthy. He made a pretty quick turn around but I was still really surprised when the doctor not only remembered exactly what he looked like but could see subtle improvements in his coat. Oh, this shouldn't be a final thing as an add on as it's the most important thing about a vet but I have consistently been impressed with Dr. Meredith's knowledge and insight into animal health. Her expertise, from what we have seen, is impressive. What other vets missed (both at the shelter and the animal ER) not only saved our dogs life but helped us to understand our new dogs and to create a healthy home for them. OK, now's the final thing- I just couldn't end without mentioning her staff one last time. They are amazing, too. They are always courteous and professional, while at the same time so loving and helpful with our dogs. Our little girl is now growing into a big girl and our boy was enormous to begin with so having a little help back out to the car when I have both dogs with me is very nice. Other than that, they have, also, been helpful in doing paperwork for the dogs, as well as sending paperwork away for us so we could get refunds on things. Dr M was recommended to me by a dr I work with during fairly emergent circumstances. I have an 11-12 yo cat who recently was diagnosed with diabetes and ring worm. My former vet of 10 years prescribed insulin, gave her an antibiotic shot and a 6 week steroid, ran some bloodwork and told me to make an appt in one month for a re-check. Two weeks later the small patches of fur missing developed into open ulcers. It was recommended I see an animal dermatologist. I made the decision to see Dr. M based on my co workers suggestion. She saw me that night for the first time. I was there two hours at least while she analyzed every inch of my cat. Shilo has never had such a thorough exam. Upon taking her blood pressure we found it was over 300 (normal is about 110-140) and she explained how the long acting steroid injection she got from the other vet would make her insulin resistant for at least 6 weeks. She was given an ultrasound guided urinary test to see if she had a urinary tract infection and her bloodwork was repeated. All at a fraction of the cost I spent at the former vet for less information. The new insulin bottle alone was $60 less that the original vets cost. After that initial visit with Dr. M I had all my records transferred to her office. Not once has my old vet of 10 years and 3 cats contacted me regarding the health of my cat or why I switched. Shilos glucose blood sugar test during the steroid time was 1000. Her blood pressure is down to 210. This has been an especially difficult time but the entire office staff has shown professionalism of a remarkable level. It is a blind faith jump into a new practice but I have a great deal of confidence in the entire staff regardless of the outcome of this very upsetting situation. Dr. M also gave her a B12 shot and a food change and I can see she has regained control of her urine intake and litter box use. I am appalled that I stayed with the old vet out of loyalty and excited and relieved to have found this very special practice. read more

It was truly the worst experience I've ever had. I couldn't be more disappointed because they came highly recommended. Even though I have a current vet (she only makes homes visits) I wanted to establish a vet with a home base as well. I went there for routine checkup and was there for just shy of 2 hours. I only spoke with the vet (WHO DID NOT INTRODUCE HERSELF) for maybe 10 minutes out of that entire time. They examined my dog in the back for some reason so I did not get to speak with her while she was even doing that. When I left I was so upset but decided to wait a few days to calm down before reaching out to the vet. A day later she emailed me my dogs bloodwork results; I asked her for the SOAP notes (doctors notes) so I could forward them to my other vet, upon reading them I found new information in regards to my dog that the vet never discussed with me during our brief encounter. I wrote the vet a long (polite) email expressing my concerns. I use to be a vet tech and completely understand that people fall behind schedule or unexpected things happen so I was willing to give the her the benefit of doubt. She replied with a very patronizing email saying she did introduce herself and it took so long because she had to read my dogs history from his other vet. She went on to say not all vets are "the right fit" so she'll make sure I'm deactivated in their system. It's clear that Dr. Meredith has no bed side manners. Based on my experience I could not recommend this vet to anyone else with a clear conscience. read more

It has now been 6 months since my traumatic experience at Affinity and I'm finally able to write about it. My sweet, elderly dog needed to br euthanized and we were new to the area, so in order to avoid a grueling hour+ drive home from our vet after saying goodbye to our dog, we sought a recommendation from a family member. We contacted Affinity vet and explained our unique situation and requested that out dog wouldn't have to endure a physical exam prior to receiving euthanasia. The staff spoke with the doctor and assured us that instead of a physical exam, they could have a doctor to doctor conversation with our vet. Prior to our appointment, I spoke to both my vet and Affinity to confirm that the doctors had discussed our dog's case and that the affinity vet had reviewed our dog's medical records. We arrived on a Friday evening after a tearful goodbye with our child at home, prepared to make one of the most difficult decisions of our lives. No one was at the front desk to greet us, and when the doctor finally came to reception to get us, she was oddly cheerful. She brought us back to an exam room and started to do a physical. When I stopped her and asked what was going on, she insisted that she had to do a physical. When I explained the agreement that we had worked out, she left the room to call Dr Meredith, came back and said that she needed to do an exam and charge for it, which also meant the charge was going to be higher than we had previously discussed as well. When I again tried to explain to the doctor that we had already made a different arrangement, she abruptly told us that we should go to our vet to have the euthanasia done. After her cold demeanor and the fact that they went back on what we had agreed upon, we left with our dog, only to have to go through the whole painful process the following day at our own vet's office. In hindsight, we are glad that we said goodbye to our dog at our vet's office because the lack of professionalism and lack of sensitivity that we experienced at Affinity would have made saying goodbye so much harder. I would never recommend this office to anyone. The staff overall was snippy, cold and had zero compassion for us and our pet. In addition, I find it suspect that the reviews below mine are from ocean city, nj (2 of them), quakertow, and Wilmington DE. Looks like Yelp needs to investigate these likely false reviews.
