We have a Pitbull/ Terrier mix who is a rescue and now approximately 4 years old. Annie had a a very tough beginning, having been abandoned at a very young age. She was highly stressed and very anxious. In addition she developed IBD (irritable bowel syndrome) and environmental allergies. In the beginning Annie was treated by this practice for her allergies with topicals, antibiotics and eventually laser therapy treatments. After an extreme case of interdigital cysts we were referred to an outside dermatologist who prescribed an increase dose of steroids with horrible results. Weight loss, muscle mass loss and behavioral changes. NSVH even questioned why this was done. We have paid thousands of dollars to NSVH for overall care, meds, injections, vaccinations and laser therapy. Never ONCE did NSVH address Annie's GI issues but freely gave her anti- nausea injections and meds which became very costly. We made a decision to get Annie to an internist to determine a solution. NSVH was very vocal that they did not agree but wanted us to go to a different dermatologist. Their attitude changed after that and during one of Annie's GI upset exams the owner, Dr. Di Giacomo stated " there is nothing more we can do to help Annie". Our last visit to NSVH for a blood draw was with their tech Brittany. This technician hurt Annie and she winced and yelped. The next week Annie needed another blood draw and Brittany again was the tech. I said to her, " Please be careful because last time you hurt her." Apparently my honesty was not received well and shortly after received an email by Dr. Di Giacomo stating that I accused her tech of "injuring" Annie when in fact I said "she hurt" her. It is also clearly stated in Annie's medical records. In this email she also told us that they were not going to be providing any more vet care and we needed to seek another practice. On NSVH website it touts " fear free" practice and clients are "treated like family". Both statements could not be further from the truth! Since this time we have secured an amazing internist and an exemplary true "fear free" veterinary practice for Annie. They have addressed a diet change, and in addition now have her on daily probiotics. Annie is doing remarkably well! In conclusion, we would hope you would consider using an alternative veterinary practice other than NSVH.

I have to say that's what I had done and only changed my mind about the place once my sister, who has a giant Rotty "lap dog," raved about the day camp here. I decided to take a mini vacation last minute, so I called the Family Pet Resort to see if they had room to board my 50 lb lab/hound mix. Surprisingly, they did! The girl took my information over the phone and called the vet while I was on hold to confirm that my dog's vaccination records were up-to-date. I was able to email her a copy of the records right away, so it was all taken care of before I even got there. Very nice! When you pull into the complex (I guess that's the right word for it), you have to pull around to the back for the pet boarding. You can tell this place is huge! You walk up the ramp and into the right side for the dogs. The person at the front desk greeted me with a smile and was ready to take the dog in. They asked all the usual questions and were very courteous when I explained to them that my pet is a bit of a nervous mess. They said it was no problem and that she'd be just fine. I picked her up a few days later and it was quick and easy. They gave me the report that my dog was on best behavior at the day camp and ate all of her food (I'm still skeptical about that last thing). The price was good, the place looked clean, and my dog came home a happy pet. I'll definitely be back!

Bloodwork and cytology were ordered. I asked to wait for lab results before starting medication. I was advised to begin meloxicam (Metacam) and Clavamox immediately. Also stated plus it's not expensive...( life is priceless ) IF THEY WOULD HAVE WAITED FOR THE LAB WORK TO COME IN FIRST THEY WOULD HAVE SEEN HOW DANGEROUS THE PRESCRIPTION WAS FOR MY 4 pound dog because of his preexisting condition that they didn't know and I didn't know about !!!! My dog took it for TWO days and DIED in my arms within days... his health declined so rapidly before my eyes it was awful, horrific experience. When diagnostic results became available, they showed significant liver abnormalities, elevated SDMA indicating kidney compromise, pancreatitis, thrombocytopenia, and lymphoma -- conditions that increase risk with NSAID use. I wasn't informed about the dangers and side effects of MELOXICAM !! I am not posting this lightly. I believe pet owners deserve full information and the opportunity to make informed decisions before medications are started. The cost at our local vet ranged from $2,300-$4,600 depending on complexity and biopsy options. I contacted Providence after a neighbor used them for dental surgery for her two pets. Providence communicates mainly via text. They do so quickly and efficiently. They provided their email for her medical records and we were scheduled for surgery within weeks. Including a donation the total was $650 and the care was excellent.

Recently, we adopted 2 stray kittens in 2020 and got them desexed here at Providence. All is well, they're healthy cats! Another round of stray cats we adopted was last May 2024, again desexed here. All good. Those strays had kittens (happened before we adopted them) and they are now old enough to be desexed as well. My six cats are happy and healthy. Our regular vet is not Providence, but Providence has been a great resource for spaying and neutering far more affordably than our family vet. I will pay for ER vets and surgeries, tests, etc. as needed for my pets, but for something like a routine desexing surgery, there is no need to pay inflated prices, and going somewhere that does it so routinely assures they are well practiced. During desexing exam, it was determined that one kitten had a tooth infection. Providence told us he had a fractured jaw and that a snaggle tooth was the only thing holding his jaw together. They needed to put a wire in his jaw for it to properly heal. Poor baby! We had taken him to be looked at by UrgentVet in Wayne, and they said there was an infection but completely missed the BROKEN JAW! Anyway, Providence healed him and he's a new cat! We've had positive experiences here and appreciate the text communication (they don't do calls) from the vet side of things. They may take a day or so to reply, but they always do, and we were given more thorough & intelligent replies than we get from our regular vet. Providence puts heart in their care, I have confidence in their capabilities, and I would recommend them!
