Our dog Gwen was diagnosed with locally aggressive soft tissue sarcoma by Penn. It was located right by her eye. We were devastated. I think highly of Penn don't get me wrong. But, I was surprised to learn they do not have a surgical oncologist on staff. The Penn Dr. recommended Dr. Jennifer Reagan at Blue Pearl Malvern. She had a CT at Blue Pearl to be more informed for surgery. The CT report led us to the decision it would be wise to be as aggressive as we can to fight this. Gwen lost her right eye and a lymph node to this process. Dr. Reagan and the nursing staff kept communication very open from day one to the end. Everyone was good to us from the front desk staff to the Dr. herself. If you are an animal lover, you can tell when other people are true animal lovers. All the staff interacted with Gwen in that way and that provided much peace of mind. Gwen has had two follow ups at local vets since she has healed. Both vets commented on the quality of her stitching especially the eye since it was a long area. Gwen's pain was managed so well by the hospital I think the surgery was harder on us than it was on her. The days after coming home she was in high spirits and only concerned about where her groundhog friends were. I am thoroughly pleased with the level of care received. Recommend. read more

They do not care about the animal.. only money. I told them flat out what I had to pay. They agreed and then came back with nonsense and said I had an outstanding bill after the procedure was done and I told them I had NO MORE MONEY. All they said was to put my animal to sleep if I couldn't pay for the $5000 surgery they wanted to do, while leaving my poor little guy with an obstructed bladder to suffer for 5 hours!! FIVE HOURS!!!! Then when they finally did the procedure to unblock him with minimal care and said that his bladder was overly bloody.. you left him sit for FIVE HOURS!!! Horrible place. For those who may be wondering, Blue Pearl used to be Hope Veterinary Emergency Hospital. The practice was purchased and integrated with the Blue Pearl system (they seem to be in many states). They offer both emergency care 24 hours a day/walk in and veterinary specialist care by appointment. Recently one of our beloved cats became oddly ill, not feeling well but our regular vet couldn't say exactly why. They recommended an ultrasound of his abdomen and, since they do not have an ultrasound service every day, that I call around. I was able to get an appointment with Blue Pearl's radiologist, Dr. Schilling, a few days later. Dr. Schilling was patient and kind with me. He wanted to do more testing than our cat's regular vet originally thought, and he spoke with me by phone at each stage (he does not see face to face patients, I was in the lobby, he'd call my cell phone). My cat needed to see a different specialist, he sent the records over immediately and gave me a telephone number to call and say it's one of his patients, the other doctor would work me in (this happened). It's expensive, and because of what they do there was a price quote up front for both the planned scans and the extended scans before they occurred. It seams heartless. I think though they struggle with people who consent but then are not prepared for the cost. Staff was to a person patient, kind and friendly. The prognosis was not good for my cat, and that was handled with great care by everyone there including Dr. Schilling. I was grateful for that. My only star off would be in that they don't participate in Care Credit or pet veterinary insurance, which would make care more accessible. Not everyone has access to a thousand dollars + immediately, and it would benefit the animal and the owner to accept things like Care Credit at a minimum. I don't ever want to have to go there again, because it means my pet is seriously ill. However if I do need this kind of care again, I would not hesitate to go, I would feel confident that my cat was getting the best care possible. read more

The prices are real expensive. They tell us our bill would be over 3000.00 cause she would have to be admitted and they want the money up front ..if I would of had that much money on hand n,absolutely would of paid..but didn't .so they told us try for this credit card ,well didn't get approved .so they said they couldvskip some procedures we can get it down to 1500.00 well didn't have that amount either ..well Al of a sudden it came down to 600.00. what the hell.my opinion is that theywill try to rob you blind at the expense of your beloved pet. On another instance they wanted 5000.00 and then turned around asked what we had on hand...I had 200.00 cash on me and they took it and sent me home with meds and said bring her back tomorrow free of charge so they could recheck her. She was very sick and past away and later found out there was a facility that charged you what ever you could afford . Absolutely zero follow up: Our dog had a tumor removed, and since the surgeon is on vacation, we are not allowed to know the biopsy results! We have been waiting two weeks, but now must wait four more days... if you have a planned vacation, why wouldn't another surgeon call with biopsy results? If this was human patient, I doubt that this is what would happen. Given the importance of these results and the significant cost of care ($10,800), I believe it is entirely reasonable to expect timely communication regarding my pet's medical status. If the surgeon is unavailable, another licensed veterinarian should be able to review the pathology report and provide an update. This is inhumane! read more

The first thing they said after telling me the bad news is that it would cost 5K, while I was having a epic meltdown. I would give this a minus 10 if I could. My dog experienced a traumatic injury early Saturday night. I loaded my dog in the car and headed for HOPE as it was recommended I go there by a friend who happens to be a veterinarian. On the way I called them to let them know I was coming and what the injury was. My dogs eye was fully out of the socket. First, I was put on hold and then I was told they couldnt help me but they could give me phone numbers to call. I WAS DRIVING this was an emergency. This is a 24 hour 7 day a week emergency hospital and they cant help to either put the eye back in the socket or remove it? Seriously! I am still in shock that I was turned away from an Emergency animal hospital when I had a dog in distress. How does this happen? Do they not have experienced veterinarians working there? I understand they don't have an opthalmologist on staff , only Metropolitan does but they don't work the ER EVER. Most, if not all qualified and skilled veterinarians can put an eye back in the socket. I called today to talk to the office manager the girl I spoke with took a message and said the office manger would get right back to me. I wanted her to know what happened. She never did. I waited until the close of a regular business day for the call. Now I am going to deliver this message on every social media platform I can think of. I brought my kitten here after she played a little too roughly with her sister. She was squinting and clearly uncomfortable. The ER check in was quick and efficient. Everyone, from the front desk staff, to the nurses, to the doctor were very friendly and compassionate. They stained her eye and found she had a corneal scratch. She was prescribed antibiotic eye drops and they even applied the first dose while she was there. It can be stressful to have an after hours situation like this come up, especially during this current COVID time, so I am so thankful to have brought my little one to a place where I know she was able to be seen and treated with great care. read more

Do not go to this "emergency" vet... there are far better options for emergency!! Our dog was having panting/breathing/high blood pressure issues early this morning... we called via the advice from our vet to go there to get a follow up US from the adrenal mass (possible cause of his symptoms). My fiancé gets there with him, calls and calls and calls the ER dept to come get him (bc of course you STILL can't go into the vet with your fur baby bc of COVID!!)... NO ANSWER!! She had to get out of the car leaving him in there and bang on the door for someone to come get him!! $500 later.. the diagnosis = "anxiety"... was given 200 mg Trazadone and was told to call them if he has any reaction. Our dog was so high and drugged, panting in his sleep, unable to put his tongue back in his mouth, we were worried he wasn't responding to a squeaky toy up under his ear flap in his face... we called and called and called... I gave up after 6 times... ring ring ring ring... NO ANSWER!! DO NOT GO TO THIS VET!! This is extremely unprofessional and God help any furry baby who is a true emergency and is unable to have anyone answer the damn phone at the ER desk!!!! We are SO angry!! Writing this review to prevent anyone else from going thru this same horrific experience!! You want to be able to call an emergency vet and in the LEAST have someone pick up the phone!!!! I work in animal welfare with trauma and congenital defect cases for 10+ years. This was a frustrating and disappointing veterinary experience. The ultrasound vet was arrogant and impatient to speak with, speaking down to me throughout our conversation. My questions were deflected. He had little time to speak in a manner that welcomed client engagement, instead saying we would need to follow up with someone else after almost every question. He was short, curt and very difficult to speak with. The ER vet was kinder and apologized for his behavior, but the damage was done, though she was WONDERFUL and helpful! We would go back just to see her, which is why this is three star review and not a one star review. To add insult to injury, the ultrasound report came back with almost every word misspelled, spaces in between actual words and as though someone with cheap dictation software who was too lazy to write a report submitted it. We spent well over $1,000 and expected a professional, legible ultrasound report, not a grammar school book report. :-( read more

We tried multiple veterinarian hospitals in the area. Being it was the weekend (and yes the catch all covid precautions) we knew it would be tough, however everyone else in essence told us sorry, no room. My wife explained what our dog was experiencing and blue made room right away. They were very gentle and compassionate with our poor old sweet Puggle Sadie, who unfortunately we learned was in renal failure. To say we were devestated would be a gross understatement. She wouldn't drink or eat anything over the last two days, however since we could not find a vet yesterday we said we would wait till Monday. But after another night of her not drinking or eating anything again we decided to double down and find a vet who would see her. She was an older dog and we had gone thru this before with another one of our dogs 10 years ago, who had kidney failure in which we naively thought we would bring her home for The night to say goodbye and then bring her in the next day to be put down.Worst mistake ever, that poor dog suffered thru the night and died in the morning. I still have such guilt about that and said to myself if we had a dog in that situation ever again we would end the suffering that moment. The vet, Adriana, had very good bedside manner, however she was also Frank with us which was very much appreciated as she knew how hard it was on us to hear. She stated they could try a few things but ultimately the outcome would be the same....we just wanted her to not suffer. So we decided to do the humane thing and had her put down. We still have so much grief, she was such a sweet girl and we are completely gutted. However I did think it was important to post how compassionate and caring Adriana and really the whole team were. As terrible as the outcome was, they made the experience as tolerable and easy as possible. That's not an easy thing to do in these situations. read more

This review is for Dr. Ducker and the Cyberknife Cancer Center. We had previously been to Blue Pearl in Langhorne for treatment of our dog's melanoma in his mouth. What a racket. We had three surgeries at our local vet but was referred to Langhorne for an Oncology referral. it was all about the dollar. We agreed to have our puppy treated with the cancer vaccine because his cancer had not spread. After 4 shots at a $1000 shot, we found a new lump. the oncologist there was of no help. She said they shots were not guaranteed but I asked about radiation, and she gave us a few names. I did some homework, and we decided on Malvern. Well, what an amazing experience. Dr. Ducker was professional, friendly, educated, and actually seemed to like dogs. He and Dr. Haney created a treatment plan for Grizzly, explained the why, what, and when and gave us hope. We knew it was going to be expensive - holy crap. The other blue pearl hospital could not care less about us or our dog - just pay the bill. Don't get me wrong, I have spent thousands before, but at this facility, they actually seem to acknowledge that it was a big sacrifice and that it was indeed expensive. I received multiple calls from Dr. Ducker and the staff every week for 6 weeks. I had face-to-face conversations with him every week. He even called my regular vet to discuss Grizzly's kidney values. Sure, we spent a chunk of change, but I have never received such compassion from a specialist. We now have an appt with one of their oncologist for his follow-up care and next vaccine. BTW, my dog is 14 years old. Our treatment days were known as chicken nugget days because he got chicken nuggets after his treatment. When we mentioned this to Dr. Ducker he said, "That's great because it's all about giving them the best possible life." Thank you, Dr. Ducker. What a difference people make. I'm very happy with my recent experience. I thought everyone was great. Brought my cat on a Monday night around 10pm for a shoulder abscess... I was worried he was septic. Called beforehand and was told 1-2 hour wait for doctor to call me after seeing my cat. (another place I called said they were at capacity). They came out and got him right away while you wait in car. Asked what tests I would be ok with (I said labs, xray, sedation and they would call me for approval before doing anything else). Doctor called me in maybe 45 minutes. We waited for the results and she called me again maybe 1ish hours later and ultimately he ended up staying the night there for iv antibiotics and was checked out by the surgeons the following morning. Another veterinarian called me next day and gave an excellent update. She was great as well I thought his workup was thorough. Costs were explained beforehand and the initial estimate was very close to final cost.. I wasn't surprised. Hes on the mend and doing a lot better. They did a great job. Be advised: Over priced for their services by 30 to 40%. I I was referred to them by my veterinarian to have a ultrasound done, the cost of the ultrasound was $470 for a cat. Upon completion of the ultrasound it uncovered a potential source of the issue being a foreign object in the cat stomach that needed to be removed via an ENDOSCOPY ASAP. Which this practice also performs. Trying to set up the appointment I was informed that I must bring the cat back again to have a consultation with a new doctor for the cost of $270. There is no reason why the doctor that will do the endoscopy could not speak with the doctor in his own practice to understand what he saw in the ultrasound. The only reason they are forcing you to come in is to drive billing which I find deplorable for people that are there to help animals. I don't mind people earning a living but taking money like that is not acceptable. Upon being told this I asked for the new doctor to call me and explain why I need to bring the cat in for a consultation when the ultrasound was done within their practice. Stressing the level of urgency that my primary veterinarian was also stressing. They said he would call me it's been 2 weeks I have not heard anything. I took the cat to Metropolitan veterinary hospital. They were great !! They redid the ultrasound, saw nothing in my cats stomach . No foreign objects like a stick. ( the ultrasound was performed less then 12 hours from the one at Hope. ) Rather then doing an endoscopy They did a consult with several of there Dr's. To determine the best course of action. They determined he has developed an allergy yo protein. We changed his food and he is fine Never heard from Hope Veterinary hospital, , no follow up to see how the cat was, why he has not come in for the emergency endoscopy... NOTHING !! Today I was talking to a neighbor who's dog needed a ultrasound,. They took their dog to Hope Veterinary hospital. Imagine my surprise when I heard the same generic diagnosis.. the dog needed an endoscopy for a possible issue with something in his stomach. No real evidence to support it , could not show them on the ultrasound. Needed to do it to check the dog out... I think they are running up their billing trying for force endoscopies. And who knows what else?? At $2500 to $3300 per endoscopy. Plus a constant with the internal dr. @ $275. AVOID this hospital when at all possible . They care more about billing the your pets . read more

Great hospital overall We just moved from the greater Philly area where we had world class veterinary care options, including U Penn. in retiring to Gold Beach we were nervous about what we might find. But our vet in Delaware did some research and recommended Town & Country and we were not disappointed. We brought our cat there as was before referred by Willow Run Animal Hospital. It's an hour away but it was important he get this procedure done or it could end his life. He is only 8! They took the cat in and told us it would be $5000 paid in total upfront. I told them I don't pay for services not yet rendered and I had already put half down. They would not let us leave until I sat in my car and applied for Care Credit. Well we called Willow Run back and guess what? Hope made it sound like it had to be done yesterday, maybe because they wanted that five grand! So I said you're telling me it's $5000 or my cats life! They responded that was not what they were doing but it absolutely was! I was crying to explain to them that I had so many medical bills of my own we had gone through all of our savings. I guess you get less empathy for people because they only come once and not as a primary vet? He is at Willow Run where he is stable to get surgery today and,get this, $800-$1100 AND they put me on a payment plan. Please don't confuse them with VRC in Malvern they were excellent care and payment with our dog a few years ago. read more

I should've listened to my gut after reading the reviews on this place, but chose to go ahead and do an ultrasound for my dog Duke. Prior to scheduling the appointment I called and talked to the girls a few times and asked if my husband could be present for the ultrasound as it would make Duke calmer, I was told no On each occasion. My dog was premedicated the night before, and premedicated two hours prior to the ultrasound. Within about a half an hour of them taking my dog back they came out and said that they couldn't handle Duke, and they would have to sedate him and that would be another $200. At that point we agreed because we were this far along, and needed to find out what was going on with Duke. We continued to wait which seemed forever, meanwhile watching a girl go back to a room and then Dr. Schelling proceed to go in the room and talk to her, then she went back with her dog and was present for the dogs ultrasound. I confirmed this with her, she told me she was a vet, but that should not of mattered. So nearly 2 1/2 hours later the doctor came out and said to us " We had to spend more of your money because your dog didn't cooperate", And they used general anesthesia Which was never even a part of this ultrasound, or discussed with us. I was disgusted in the way we were treated and in the nearly $1800 bill that we received. I truly believe my dog was going to pass that night with all the drugs that they gave him. We had to lift the dog into the truck, and when we got home lay him down. I stayed home with him the next day to watch him recover slowly. We should've been consulted before general anesthesia, and you can't have double standards and allow a person back for an ultrasound, and tell me we can't. Thoroughly disgusted with this practice, and the doctors bedside manner. Will not refer this establishment to anyone, And as far as I'm concerned you owe me back everything that we did not agree on. I was here years ago and I see not much has changed. My dog was "diagnosed" with lymphoma but lived 2 years without treatment..probably not actually the diagnosis. I had been here 10 years ago when it was Hope, with my cat Olive. Had to bring Olive back again for the same issue she had once before, serious constipation. Olive was seen immediately and within 40 minutes Dr. Spinelli came to talk to me. She proactively considered budget issues, which made me feel relieved, and gave me options. She laid out a plan of immediate treatment for today - the most cost effective and essential items - and then what I would need to do going forward with my own vet. She was very empathetic, knowledgeable, and kind. While I know today doesn't solve Olive's issues I am hopeful it brings her some relief in the short term while I figure out with her vet what we do next. I know people who have gone to another ER close by down the street and my experience at Blue Pearl has definitely been better than theirs. I will continue to come here with my cats and dog when the need arises. read more

Extortion. My wife brought our dog in on a Sunday obviously sick. Running nose and rapid breathing. $1300 later they gave him antibiotics and let my wife bring him home. They were up selling her the whole time. They take the dog into the back and you can't be with him. Hope is as good as it gets. If you're coming here expecting to pay $100, then don't have a pet. Pets are expensive, and coming to a specialist is even more expensive. I called on valentines day and made an appointment for a week later. The receptionist realized the severity of the appointment where I did not. She put the doctor on the phone and she ended up wanting to see her that day. They scheduled her for an ultrasound appointment 30 minutes after they normally stop seeing patients. The staff welcomed us as soon as we walked in. The doctor himself came out, sat with us, and walked us through what would be done. After the ultrasound was done, he took us back into a room and explained everything so we could understand it. He took his time and allowed us to ask questions. He made every attempt to make sure that we were comfortable with what was done and that we did not leave with any questions. I would recommend this specialty vet to ANYONE AND EVERYONE. I will continue to use them as a speciality veterinarian! As far as price goes, the visit, abdominal ultrasound and to meet with the doctor for results was only $410. We have been a patient of Dr. Shanley's for a few years. My westie has bad skin allergies. When I brought her there the first time she looked like a chicken with scrawny hairless legs due to biting and chewing. She was miserable and so were we! Dr. Shanley let us know the options and was not pushy or directive as to what to do. The options were not inexpensive so we did have to weigh them. We opted for allergy testing and now she is on allergy shots. It is easy to get back in to see him and the staff is delightful. Because they are an emergency vet you can call anytime. They have texted and emailed me suggestions and ideas when she gets itchy. Best choice I have made. My westie has all her hair back! read more

Since it was weekend and our vet was closed we kind of rush him to emergency hospital for hope that he will get the best treatment. That confirms... that they knew that my Romeo was dying . He had a kidneys failure and a heart condition ....Bad combination! Why you didn't let me to take him home on Sunday , when I wanted ? I would made his final days comfortable and I wouldn't never leave his side . I would Give him a water and comfort that he deserves. Deeply inside I knew that he will not survived when I saw him on Sunday afternoon. His conditions drastically got worst after one night being there and receiving the first fluid treatment. When he stayed with us in the room on Sunday I ask him if he is thirsty and his ears opened. My husband brought his travel bottle, that we kept in the car , and he drank and he drank water like crazy . Poor Baby he was so dehydrated and they were telling me that he had neurological problems. As soon as I gave him water and some baby food , he got better . The doctor was telling me that is not right to take him home . He will suffer and we should keep him another day . He may have a chance , and they will monitor him and his condition. As soon as they started second fluid treatment he developed a heart failure and his lungs was filled with fluids . I wish I was listening my heart that day and don't listen to the doctor. You guys knew that he was dying, and I only wanted that day that you will be honest with me . Hope veterinary specialists is an excellent facility. Dr. May and staff were kind, Professional, courteous, provided detailed information on what to expect, how Bear was doing and how to care for him after surgery. Bear had to stay two nights and they called several times to let us know how he was doing. I am so pleased with them and so glad we went there for Bear's surgery. He broke both long bones in his front left leg but is doing really well. I highly recommend them. They are very caring. read more

Wow! My dog was so sick from gastro problems, our local vet didn't feel able to help him. We rushed him to HOPE. They quickly got him in and administered the medications he needed through IV and cared well for him. Dr. Hart and many of the others there were wonderful. They made us feel like our dog was in the best possible place. One night we even asked for a photo, which they sent over within 30 minutes of the request via his own private phone number. However, I first called for an appointment on Dec 4-with a cat with very high total calcium and likely cancer. I had my first appointment on the 13, at which point I was told that the necessary blood test had to be sent to Michigan. Oh, and the ultrasound was booked but I could leave him overnight and they might be able to squeeze him in. FIRST ADVICE-have you local vet send the blood to Michigan-save yourself some money and your poor pet the trauma of the drive. Took 6 days to get the results, come back in on DECEMBER 20 for ultrasound. Bottom line-he most likely has renal lymphoma. I can get him on chemo and he may live 8 weeks, or steroids for a couple weeks. Cost so far, about $1700 and 6 hours driving my poor sick cat. Oh but if I want to try chemo, he has to have a needle biopsy (another 1000$ and he has to stay overnight)-then likely 3 days a week chemo (I didn't ask the cost)-for another 9 hours a week driving my poor cat. Still, apart from the perceived hard sell on leaving him at the hospital not so bad. However the disappointment started once I decided the difference between maybe 8 weeks and maybe 3 weeks wasn't worth it. I'm hustled our to the public waiting room-and LEFT THERE for nearly 30 minutes waiting for my cat. Prior to my decision to stop the pointless heroics, treated considerately. Once the money machine stopped, I ceased to exist. You would think a place that bills itself as a one stop pet medical center (or whatever) could spend some time on what to expect with palliative/end of live care. Nothing. Here's your cat, here's your steroids, pay your bill, and don't let the door hit you on your way out. I thought about letting it go. The day after I get an email asking for feedback. I sent my feedback, including how I felt. Now, before you jump on me with 'well it's the holidays'-um, nope. I was told on Dec 20 I could leave him overnight for the biopsy, the results had to be sent out (why does everything have to be sent out-isn't that what the high processes should save us from?)--AND ID GET THE RESULTS ON MONDAY-yes Monday, Christmas Eve. Telling me the holidays were the problem just doesn't wash. So here's my advice-if like me you don't live near vet specialists- ask you local vet to send them out since you aren't really getting anything for your Money-except a lot of grief, a lot of money, and being treated as if you don't exist-even if you close the money machine to save-not a few bucks-but your beloved terminally ill pets comfort- Give this place a miss if you can. They've had a week to respond to me and they haven't-apparently they don't a tuall UPDATE: I kept the cat alive they the holidays so I didn't ruin anyone's time-and put him to sleep on January 2. Hope hospital has great staff, very nice and clean environment, they have excellent doctors like dr aharon and dr ogg. They took great care of my dog. I would definitely recommend them to any friends or family that are looking for specialist care for their pets. They also have an excellent oncologist in dr Christine mullen. The care at Hope hospital is by far better than most human hospitals that I have been to. They definitely provide exceptional care for pets. read more

Lacking senior vet doctors during emergencies hours. Lacking resources during emergencies hours. Not enough data provided to make life and death decisions. Horrible customer service. No choices for an urns ( which returned with the Pet name spelled wrong). Had and have lots of very loved Pets. Being in lots of vets places. Got no reason to return here. Lots of marketing, but they proved unhelpful and did not provide knowledgeable medical advice and evidence. read more
