By the time I'd both visited for the fitting and then returned for the try-on, I felt like I had met two friends. Ashley and Dr. Dahlia Muhammad operate the New Bern, NC office with the utmost care and dedication. Dr. Muhammad is so pleasant, encouraging, and wants the very best outcome for you, she is truly dedicated to having you walk out of that office with nothing but a beautiful smile! Her professionalism and strive for excellence is what has been going back this week. She wasn't completely satisfied with the first set and wanted me back to reevaluate and reissue another pair of dentures. You can tell from your first greeting from Ashley that she loves her job and is very proud of the organization. She ran the gamut from thoroughly explaining the process in advance and as we progressed from one step to the next, making the tray, performing the fitting, scheduling my come-back for the final step of trying on the created dentures and the return back to pick up the finished product. Ashley assisted me with the financial application with CareCredit, she explained the care of both my dentures and gums, demonstrated how to apply the paste, and organized me a take-home ddbag with everything I'd need for my new journey with an almost perfect smile. Because there was a bit of an issue with the centering of the dentures and frankly, because both Dr. Muhammad and Ashley are perfectionists, I'll be returning this week for another visit. Dr. Muhammad However, because of the personalities of both Ashley and Dr. Dahlia, I'm actually looking forward to going to the dentist! I have to say that's an absolute first for me. The cleanliness of the office, restrooms, and procedure rooms is above reproach. The patience and positive vibe that you feel, the genuine care and compassion that you experience at the office, and the promise of support was a tremendous comfort to me. I'd recommend this location hands down over what my son and other family members experienced at the Wilmington, NC location. Once the technician brought me back, I went through a quick X-ray and was led into the exam room. The room was clean, organized and comfortable. Again, within minutes, the dental hygienist arrived and started her routine. I'm very particular about following up with dental care and exams. I floss and brush frequently, and take pride in my teeth. Nevertheless, this dental hygienist took her time, and was extremely detailed in checking the health of my teeth, and even better, she was meticulous with a very detailed cleaning! I can say that in all my years, she is most definitely the best Dental Hygienist I've ever had! Great job! Next, I was welcomed to the practice by a super down to earth and friendly dentist: Dr. Panchal. We went over any concerns and and oral history, and, of course, he studied all of the X-rays taken. He proceed with the oral exam. Dr. Panchal patiently explained his findings and discussed his recommendation, treatment plan, and timeline. I'm pleased to say that my first visit was above average! From professionalism, welcoming and very clean environment, detailed staff, everything was perfect! The second visit had to be rescheduled and I specifically asked what my insurance would cover. We were willing to wait two months if needed for the insurance to renew and to cover more for the procedure. I was assured that it was preauthorized and given the amount I was responsible for at the time of the visit..which was paid in full. I received a bill two months later that I still owed almost $1200. It took a couple of months to arrange making payments, in the interim I was told they would not see my child as a patient for even his routine cleaning that is 100% covered by insurance until I paid the bill in full. Ok fine. I'll find another dentist. Then Carrie from the St. Paul's office called me today and lets me know that even though I've started making payments, I would be turned over to a collection agency in 4 months if the remainder is not paid. Shame on me for not doing my due diligence and checking with my insurance company instead of just taking their word. But also I don't want to do business anyway with a profession that specializes in the care of folks that's more concerned with a buck. I understand businesses don't run for free..but given the amount of money I have personally come out of pocket with in two visits, looks like they'd entrust their patients a little more. So no, I would not recommend. Patient care obviously takes second place.

Although I had dental insurance, I was required to pay the full $118 out of pocket before receiving treatment. I was told I would be reimbursed once my insurance claim was processed and that it should only take a few weeks. At the beginning of August--approximately five weeks after my appointment--I called the office for an update. I was told they were backed up, so I continued to wait. My Explanation of Benefits is dated August 5, 2026. It shows that Sun Life paid the dental office $62 directly, the remaining $56 was a PPO discount, and my total patient responsibility was $0. Therefore, I should be refunded the entire $118 that I paid. I called the office again on September 11, 2026--nearly 11 weeks after my appointment and more than five weeks after the insurance claim was processed. This time, I was told that the owner was out of the country and that I would have to continue waiting. I was still not given a definite date for when my refund would be issued. I appreciate that the office was available to treat me on a Sunday, but I am extremely disappointed with how my refund has been handled. A process that I was told would take only a few weeks has now lasted nearly three months. A well-run business should have a reliable refund process that does not depend entirely on whether the owner is available. Patients should not have to make repeated calls and continue waiting without a clear resolution. I am simply requesting the full $118 refund that I was promised.

However, they did not even submit the claim to insurance for nearly 2 full months, despite multiple requests to do so. Once they finally submitted the claim (in April), my insurance asked several basic follow-up questions about the treatment so they could process the claim. It has now been another two months and Crabtree Valley Dental has still not provided that info, despite multiple letters from insurance. Over the phone, they keep assuring me they will take care of it but weeks go by with no action. It seems pretty clear now that because they received my money, they they have little interest is helping with my insurance claim. I previously had good experiences with CVD, but I do not recommend that anyone pay for any treatments up front with them. Make them submit to insurance first, because otherwise you may never see that money again.
