I'm not an authority on Afghan food so this is rated as an outsider. Overall the food can be summarized as: lightly seasoned, enjoy the simple flavors of each component, and Must use the sauces to complete the dish. I personally think everything needed some salt, but maybe it's meant to be this way. Highlight is most definitely the green sauce (yogurt and chili, not spicy), baklava (sweet sticky on the bottom and flaky crisp on top, not overly sweet), yogurt mint drink (dough). Shami beef and chicken kebab were juicy and not dry. Through a bit of miscommunication.. I was given the yogurt drink instead of the normal side of yogurt cucumber sauce for the meat, and was warned by Ali that some people don't like it since it's a yogurt drink with salt, but honestly it was great and was essentially a yogurt mint sauce I expect from other Mediterranean/Middle Eastern type places but more watery. So admittedly I just took sips of this while taking bites of the kebab and rice and it was pretty much the flavors I was looking for, but an extra step. Beef Mantu was another source of confusion since there are regular and homemade versions (I didn't realize). They made me the homemade version without confirming with me on the phone; no problem. It was filled with lightly seasoned beef and topped with interesting spices. Overall not bad not great, definitely needs sauce / salt. Too light in my opinion. And for $25 I wouldn't get again not worth it. The customer service from Ali was great. Knowing this was my first time he explained everything, offered to charge me less due to the miscommunications (I declined), and gave complimentary side of sauce and baklava as a nice gesture. Good stuff! The star rating is purely for the type and grade of restaurant this is. As we've always had this place on the raider being its neighbor, we finally made it here and met the owner. Service was pleasant, and we received enough attention throughout the meal course. Great, open seating with the view on the Monument Boulevard, that was bright and comfortable. The outstanding Afghani food, and even better the desserts with saffron tea made this experience complete throughout. Would highly recommend Narunj Palow with thinly sliced dates. Turned out to be a little bit pricier than I thought it would be for a lunch, however, it really did worth it. read more

Uh...so...I was very confused at first. We came at lunch time (12:30ish) and the door was locked. They had two doors, so I thought maybe we were at the wrong door, but nope. I double checked the hours again, and their sign shows that they would be open. After standing there and pulling the doors a couple time to make sure we were pulling/pushing the right way, and almost giving up, a gentlemen opened up the door for us. He was very welcoming, but I couldn't help but feel bad...like I disturbed them LOL. They were super nice though. I ordered a spicy Chaplin/Shami combo. I liked the entree. The proteins were tender. The rice was very fragrant and flavorful. I'd recommend stopping by if you're in the area! Special shout-out to their house-made sauces. They were amazing, especially their spicy one. This is definitely one of those hole-in-the-wall type restaurant with with warm hospitality and basically cooked to order food! I was visiting family in SF bay area and saw this highly rated Afghan restaurant on yelp and noticed that they make Qabeli Palow which is really rare to find (it takes a long time to cook and you have to really know how to cook the rice just right along with the meat and veggies ). We ordered the chapli kabob, shami kabob and of the palow and all 3 dishes were just about perfect! The owner/chef was very gracious and even specifically asked if I wanted the kabobs juicy or slightly more cooked! overall such a treat of a restaurant and I would highly recommend anyone looking for some yummy Afghani food to try this spot! I even suggested to the owner that he needs to open a place in Orlando area as we dearly lack central asian foods/cuisines here!!! read more

I love Afghan Cuisine. My friend, and fellow Yelper Anita Wong, introduced me to this place. This restaurant is only about a mile away from my home, but I had never noticed it as it's not flashy and next to a doughnut shop towards a small plaza. Quite honestly, I had high hopes, since one of my other Yelp friends, Matthew Lee took me to this amazing place in Oakland. I came here with Anita on a weekend during SIP. She was such an angel and checked to see that it was open and had outdoor seating. It did! Enough for 2 tables. I came a bit early and ordered the Qabeli Palow ($15). It was seasoned lamb with flavorful rice with carrot ribbons, raisins, and almonds. Her order came out first and was similar but with combination beef patty and lamb. The smell of it made me immediately salivate and she was gracious enough to give me some of that delicious, well seasoned beef. The flavors were great. Full of spices and flavor. The sauces that they provided; an orange paste hot sauce and a green mint watery sauce, complimented the meal very well. They allowed us to sit here for over an hour an a half, as we chatted and caught up. I love this place a lot, and dangerously enough, plan to come here pretty often. For those who aren't familiar with the area, The Bay has a large Afghani population which means good Afghani food. They didn't have bolani which is my favorite but they had pulao and chapli. Pulao is like biryani. The rice was spiced well, fluffy, and so good. The lamb was really soft and tender. The chapli was just ok. I like it a little crispier but it was spiced well. The other thing we ordered were the mantu, something I haven't tried but they reminded me of Nepalese momos so I got them. The skins of the mantu were just right. The beef was cooked well but I didn't love the creamy sauce. Decent meal but I really wish they had bolani. For centuries, Afghanistan served as an important hub for international trade. As a result, you will find cross-cultural influences in Afghan cuisine. From Mongolia to India to the Middle East, exotic regional spices and herbs are used in its culinary offerings. The resulting flavors are complex and are the main reason why it is one of my favorite cuisines of the world. Afghan Cuisine opened a few months back in a small plaza near the Concord Police Department headquarters. On 01/05/2020, I met my buddy David here for lunch. David had already gotten a table when I walked in at 1 pm. The interior was small but cozy. Cleanliness was impeccable. The room decorations were a reflection of the Afghan culture. Seating was made up of 7-8 small tables. We decided to order a few things to share. Below is what we got: - Mantu ($5.99) - Murgh and Shami Combination ($18) - Qabeli Palow ($14.99) - Sambosa (free with Yelp check-in) Mantu was a plate of three ground beef dumplings covered with a sauce made with tomatoes, chickpeas, mint, and yogurt. Size wise, they were like wontons but not as plump. The texture of the dumpling skin reminded me of typical wonton wrapper. The filling tasted ordinary but the sauce was exquisite. It had great depth and brightness. The mintiness really stood out. Sambosa was a fried pastry stuffed with mashed potatoes and peas, served with a green yogurt sauce. The filling was slightly spicy and delicious. The pastry shell was a bit hard to cut through though. The Murgh (boneless chicken) and Shami (ground beef skewer) Combination was served with seasoned rice. The meats were very juicy and flavorful. The spice blend used to marinate them provided a depth of complexity to their flavors. The Qabeli Palow was a rice pilaf mixed with raisins, carrots, and lamb and is regarded as the national dish of Afghanistan. Afghan Cuisine's version was solid. The rice had a perfect sweet and savory balance. The lamb ribs (wish they had used shank instead) were tender and flavorful. They had just a hint of gaminess to remind us what we were eating, but not overwhelming. Afif, the owner, provided us with fantastic service. He was very friendly and we were well taken care of throughout the meal. With T/T, the meal was about $50. We were very glad to have tried this place out. The food was authentic and delicious and the service was excellent. Hopefully, they will be around for a long time. Give them a try if you're in the area! 4 solid stars. I'm sure you've driven past Afghan Cuisine many times, saw their "voter best Afghan cuisine in Concord" sign and wondered about it....well, stop wondering and hurry on in! It wasn't our first time eating Afghan food but unfortunately we aren't well versed with it either so we asked Ali for some recommendations. With his recommendations and our drooling over the menu we decided on Sambosa, Shami lunch portion, Qormay Gosht, Broani Banjan, and Naan. It took longer than expected for our food but the wait was worth it! Everything was fresh, well balanced, delicious and had amazing texture! My absolute favorite was the oomay gosht (lamb)! The lamb was so tender and juicy. I literally picked up the bones and sucked on them in the restaurant!!! The broani bamjan (eggplant) was my second favorite! I spoke with Ali over the phone, who recommended a few gluten-free options. We ended up ordering the sabzi, Dahl, chicken kebab, beef kabob and spicy beef. Ali was extremely warm, welcoming and friendly upon arrival to the restaurant. We couldn't be more pleased with the food! The spinach dish was our absolute favorite and the yogurt sauce paired nicely with everything. We also liked that the food wasn't overly salty. I haven't written a review in a long time, but really felt compelled to pick up the proverbial pen again after my really amazing meal at Afghan Cuisine in Concord. I got the mantu kadu and falooda drink at the recommendation of the main employee there. He was so courteous and kept apologizing for the wait of the mantu kadu. Reader, it was worth the wait. The mantu kadu are steamed butternut squash dumplings that have onions, corn, yogurt, and other spices. The server recommended that you get the naan to go with the mantu, but I didn't heed his suggestion. He gave me a side order of the naan anyway (so grateful for his generosity!). The naan come in little small squares of crispy and chewy carby goodness, which was perfect to sop up the sauce that covered the mantu. The falooda drink was also really wonderful -- a subtle rose flavored drink that wasn't as sweet as the rose milk teas I'm used to. It paired really well with my meal. This place deserves 5/5 stars, easily. Next time I'm in Concord I will definitely be ordering from here again. read more

Picked up a late dinner from this place last weekend, and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is really charming and welcoming. When I arrived, my order was getting finished up and the gentleman behind the counter told me to hang out for a bit while he packaged everything for me. He was very sweet and even gave us an order of dolmas on the house! When I got home, the food was hot and delicious. We ordered: #23- Handcrafted beef mantu, #14- chicken and shami combo (2), and #32 Salati afghani. This was some of the best middle eastern food we've had in a long time. We've lived close to this area for a couple years and have driven by this place so many times (especially on the way to Costco, lol). But we didn't try it until we moved. This place has changed to so many restaurants over the years, and it seems like Afghan Cuisine stuck around, even throughout covid. Because we're still in covid times, I haven't had a chance to try items from their complete menu. However, their takeout menu was really not bad! Give or take $10 plates or $5-7 individual items. (I've never had an Afghani burrito or quesadilla before?!) The chicken quesadilla was awesome. I recommend ordering a side of yogurt cucumber to dip it in and topping it off with the salata that comes with the plate. I wish I ordered the lamb (qaboli) which wasn't ground. Nothing wrong with the beef kabob. I just wish it had way more seasoning and wasn't ground. I have to give them the benefit of the doubt though because all of it was literally cooked right after we ordered in person. I'm sure they were getting ready to close when we got there. The chicken was pretty good and not dry, the rice was fluffy, and the lentils were a nice side. And the baklava... it was so good and fresh (not syrupy). While out with my significant other we decided to try Afghan Cuisine since she could no longer bear my hangry-ness. I'll be honest, I'm TERRIBLE! I've had this place saved for some time so I was excited to finally give it a try. They have two tables for two set up outside and offer pick up/take out...maybe delivery. The set up to order is pretty common to what I've seen at other places. They have a table set up at the entrance to the restaurant to order and pick up food. We started with Sambosa's for each of us. They're served with a mint or cilantro type chutney. Comparable to samosas if you've had those. Delicious. I believe the owner was was working the front and brought over some really nice hot sauce that I think had habanero and another pepper in it. Really nice! Certainly has some heat but I found that the heat was bearable and didn't overpower the great flavor. So for the main dishes we had the chicken and chapli kabob combo and the Qabeli Palow. Let me begin by telling you the food was awesome! The chicken and beef kabob were seasoned great and moist. So one of the problems I find with kabobs is that many times the meat is dried out. Here it's served over basmati and saffron rice. Now, the chicken and meat have a nice little kick to them but with the haberno sauce and chutney, perfect for an extra punch. The Qabeli was actually my favorite of the two. It's lamb under a bed of rice with carrot shavings, sliced almonds and raisins. This dish was great! The lamb was tender and the raisins and almonds provided some really nice texture and sweetness. This is exactly the type of places I love to find. Everything is made from scratch and the staff are eager to explain a dish and make recommendations and just all around nice. It's the food that will bring me back and hopefully help someone else discover how great Afghan food is. read more

Immediately as you walk in, the aroma of food and spices has your appetite excited! I had their lamb with special sauce, sambosa, and borani banjan. Don't forget to order the Naan and mast khiyar!
