This was my first time trying Moroccan cuisine and it did not disappoint! I decided to order takeout, and the moment I stepped in, I was captivated by the ambiance there's a stage with belly dancing and music throughout the day (I believe). I ordered the full-course dinner, which comes with a bunch of sides plus bread definitely a great option if you have a big appetite. It also came with mint tea, which was so refreshing. The highlight was definitely my entrée: I chose the Chicken Tajine, which is a stew. The meat was incredibly tender, and it honestly felt like trying my grandma's cooking I could taste the love in the stew. The service was amazing. The only bummer is that I ordered takeout. The husband and wife team go above and beyond to ensure all of your dining needs are met, plus their hospitality and friendliness makes coming here like visiting good friends! I was excited to find El Morocco since North African cuisine is very rare around these parts. I used to eat it all the time when I lived in the South of France, where there is a large population of people from Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. However, I was pretty disappointed here. The limited menu items, and a significant price increase from the photos of the menu that people had posted merely a month before. The overall ambiance was nice, and they were kind enough to ask if the music was too loud without us having to say anything about it. It's one thing when the music creates an ambiance, it's another when you can't even talk to the people that you're sitting with. My group ordered three tajines and the honey chicken, as well as the Moroccan wine, hummus, and dolmas. The appetizers were great, especially the hummus. They actually gave us enough pita which most places don't. Two of my party were gluten free and we asked if they had some veggies or something to go with the hummus. They brought out some lettuce which apparently was nice and refreshing. The wine was kind of a dull table wine, nothing to write home about. My tajine was lukewarm and basically just tasted like lemon. The veggies were over cooked, and there wasn't the dried fruit, cinnamon, and spices that I am used to having. Even the olives seemed to be from a can. Overall the plate was actually pretty sparse. It didn't resemble anything like what I have had before, or even other peoples photos here on Yelp. And no side of couscous. Every Moroccan restaurant I've ever been to gives you a side of couscous with your tajine. So the meal wasn't very good, quite underwhelming really, and very much over priced. But what made the experience a big fail for me was the fact that everything took at least twenty minutes. We spent over three hours here mainly just waiting on things. We place our order for drinks and appetizers. The appetizers come out 20 min later. We ask for our wine. It comes out 20 minutes later. We try to flag someone down to take our order. That takes 20 min. We place our orders, and that must have taken a good hour. Every little thing was a huge wait, we even had to go get someone to bring us our bill, which also took a long time to get. And to top it off, 20% gratuity was automatically added. So I don't think I'll be coming back. Which makes me sad because I was really looking forward to this place. read more

We took my dad here for his 85th birthday and had a fantastic time. Everyone else has already reviewed the beautiful decor. And we thought the food was delicious! The show was great and the belly dancer was really sweet, posing for a photo with my dad, who due to balance issues couldn't go up and dance with her. But what makes this restaurant exceptional is the service. Conor, the server was AMAZING! From the minute we walked in, he took care of everything. He gave us the perfect table with a place for my dad's walker, he took our diabetic cupcakes to the fridge (and later brought them out on a platter with a candle), he found a temporary vase for the flowers we gave our mom for Mother's Day, he did an incredible trick with the mocktail, and checked on us constantly. A super nice guy. And the owner was so awesome! He went above and beyond and even bought balloons for my dad in advance. The tajin is perfectly slow cooked lamb and chicken with veggies and olives (wish more olives in dish). The couscous dish had surprisingly little couscous but LOTS of chicken shrimp and veggies. The meat was so tender in all the dishes and flavorful. We ended with Moroccan mint tea and baklava. ... and of course let's not forget about the show!! They have belly dancing!!! I went to dinner at around 6:30pm. I walked in, and there was noone to greet me or seat me for about 10 minutes. There was a group of 4 people there at one table and the rest of the restaurant was empty. I walked back out, and then back in just so they can hear the door, but still noone. I shouted hello for them to even come out and he told me to sit wherever i wanted. I ordered a diet coke and Lamb Tajine. Diet coke was obviously from a broken machine that lacked syrup. Tasted horrible, i sent it back. Lamb tajine was okay. Ive had tajine multiple times, this one was lacking explosive flavor and I thought Id be getting a lamb shank but instead got some lamb pieces and alot of bones. The food is honestly very overpriced and tastes a lot like crockpot food. I don't think it's exactly authentic Moroccan food so if your intent is to eat authentic Moroccan food I wouldn't really recommend this place. I had the chicken tagine, and it was just OK. One of the chicken legs was cooked more than the other, and they were missing the rich Moroccan spices and raisins. I took someone who had never been before so we elected the full dinner option, which includes many of the starters, entree and finished with hot morracan mint tea and baklava. Came here on a whim to beat the 1 hour wait for from a neighboring restaurant for brunch. Pleasantly surprised! In the best way, such a cute place with amazing ambiance. My 2 toddlers had a ball, the staff was very patient and welcoming to us. We ordered from their weekend brunch menu and got strawberry crepes for the kids, shakshuka, iced Moroccan mint tea, and a breakfast burrito. This place seems understated at first, you walk in and you wonder ... We were seated and I asked if I could move tables and you can tell a lot about customer service when you make requests. They were so gracious and willing to accommodate my wishes. We were greeted by a young guy named Connor. He sat us, he brought out menus, our waters, our food, he did sound checks, check ins with tables, ...you name it. The remarkable thing about Connor was how gracious, attentive, efficient and friendly he was. I am so impressed with the service of this place. The menu is simple. I like that. I went with a "full dinner" - it included lentil soup, salad, mint tea, hummus, an appetizer, a main entree and dessert. The lentil soup was delicious. Perfect temperature, serving and seasoning. I was pleasantly surprised. The salad was refreshing and also delicious. The appetizer we got was interesting. It was called Bastilla. The way to explain it - it is a confusing dish. It is a filo dough with honey, chicken, powdered sugar... you do not know if your palate is tasting a delectable dessert or a chicken dish. I love sweet and salty mixes but this didn't do it for me. Then the main entree- ahhhhhh I had the Couscous Royal. It is a healthy portion. It was lamb and chicken mildly seasoned, cooked to perfection, coming off the bones and soft. Very delicious! My friend had the Lamb Tagine and was very happy. And they kept surprising me. I had become desensitized to Baklava over the years because I had been eating some that tasted like cardboard with honey. The Baklava here made my palate burst with happy memories of my first time having this delicious dessert. It was simply AMAZING. Then Connor brought hot mint tea and served it the traditional way of pouring it while standing up tall and filling the cups artfully from a distance. It does not stop there, they had two belly dancing presentations by a beautiful and talented dancer who was gracious and had a contagious smile and laughter. Then a gentleman showed up and started playing the goblet drum... and I could cry. It was so beautiful. It brought me back to the amazing music at Kanzaman in San Francisco. This weekend, we had the absolute pleasure of dining at El Morocco for their weekend brunch, and I can confidently say it was the best brunch I've ever had. The service was flawless, the food was pure perfection, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I'm notoriously picky, especially with egg dishes, but every bite was bursting with flavor and flawlessly prepared. They excel in everything from sweet to savory, with a menu so thoughtfully crafted it's a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. I tried both their coffees, which were rich, aromatic, and perfectly brewed, and they were absolutely fantastic. The place itself is gorgeous. It is beautifully decorated with stunning Middle Eastern carpets, lanterns, and cozy seating, making it a very charming and comfortable setting to sit and enjoy a meal. On top of the amazing brunch, they also serve traditional Middle Eastern dishes and offer a wonderful dinner menu every day, which I can't wait to explore further. If you are not into belly dancers, no worries. They do not have them every night, so you can call ahead when making a reservation to confirm. So, I'm really looking forward to updating this review when i give this place another chance. We came here for Mother's Day, since they just started to do brunch, figured we would try it out. Let me just say the ambiance is great! It's real decorated in here, the couches are nice, pillows on the floor to eat it Indian style, and the low gold tables. I'm sure dinner is a time to be had at this place with the belly dancing! Now for the honest review, i ordered the Shakshuka which came out entirely too late, i had to remind them of the pita bread that comes with it. My kids ordered crepes which they seemed to like so no problem there, but they got milk with their brunch and the milk that was brought to us was SPOILED! I literally had to spoon the chunks in the milk to the server, it was disgusting. Thankfully i caught it before they drank it. My confidant had a breakfast burrito, which she said was a lil dry. We had asked for the Moroccan hot sauce on the side which never came also. Ordered an espresso martini which was made with Turkish coffee and that didn't do to well either, maybe the coffee didn't mix with the alcohol. We got the Lebanese Pilsner and Moroccan lager for drinks, hummus and pita bread, dolmas, and falafel to start. We split an entree of the couscous royal and finished with baklava and mint tea. Let's just say it was very disappointing. We made reservations for Friday to celebrate my MILs birthday. I called to make the reservations and I had mentioned that we had been there pre Covid and that I was glad that they made it through. I was told that they were under new management and made some revisions to the menu and I will not be disappointed. When we arrived we were seated in the far back corner and was told that the other tables were reserved for a party of 16 that was coming a little later. We were greeted by our Server Connor. He seemed genuine and attentive in the beginning and then we saw less and less of him. The meal - we all ordered the full dinner. First thing out was the lentil soup. It was just OK. Next up was the salad and hummus. The hummus was good and salad very bland. It arrived with both bread and pita bread. We got plenty of refills on the bread but never refilled on the pita. I was really looking forward to the bastilla. What we received was luke warm, soggy and flavorless. At this point I was not putting much faith in the rest of the evening. Next was the entree. Two of us had the lamb tajine, one chicken tajine and one honey chicken. Only one of us actually ate their entree and it was the honey chicken. For the tajines the lamb was rubbery and the chicken dried out. I drank my mint tea and skipped the baklava. Nicole our dancer was very good. The party of 16 had a bunch of children that did not remain seated and I know it was difficult for Nicole to navigate around them. Kudos to Nicole for toughing it out. Once the dance was over things really got a bit odd. The Owner played various instruments and sang songs. Three songs to be exact over and over again and of course Happy Birthday was one of them. At 9:15 an announcement was made that the second show was cancelled. I guess that was because bedsides our table, the table of 16, and a table of the dancers friends there was only one other table seated the whole evening. At this point Connor shows up again to give us a little rose water to wash our hands with. After that we are presented with the bill and were told that there is an automatic 20% added on the bill for parties of over 2. We were OK with that but what we are NOT OK with is the fact that Connor asked us to tip in addition to that. I'm sorry but that is just bad! Our evening came out to $430.00 for 4 people and what we got for that was a three ring circus with kids running around, a run down "oasis" that needs to be thoroughly deep cleaned, a great belly dancing show and horrible food. Hard to believe it's been 14 years since I've posted. I was treated to dinner to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Although under new ownership, it is still a wonderful restaurant. For $45 the complete meal is so generous. I took a picture of my single serving of my Chicken Tagin, my main course to show you the size. It's 1/2 a chicken. So tender and juicy. This isn't fast food, this is relaxing and enjoying your experience. Come early and stay for the beautiful and talented belly dancer. Make sure you bring cash to give the dancer it's part of the experience and shows your thanks for her performance. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful place on this side of the bay. This place was good and you'll have a pleasant meal and leave full. Service friendly. Pace is slow, which is very Moroccan. This was a 3 hour experience, which we did not anticipate. For me, it takes as long to get here as to SF, which is where the competition I've tried is. We had the set meal Salad and hummus : salad good and hummos excellent. I missed having more salad choices but also don't expect every Moroccan dinner "experience" to have an identical menu. Harira: soup was only ok. Large portion. Tasted of lentil, which was good. It's just not a version of harira I'd crave or seek out again. Bastilla: very good, with a nice fillo-to-filling ratio. A little drier than the one I make but still very nice Mains: I had the honey lamb tagine. Sauce was good with some aromatics in it. Raisins and mini olives a nice touch. Very generous portion of meat that was lean. Lamb kebabs: one ordered med- rare and one med- well. The med-rare order had a single piece that was super rare. Otherwise, large portions of meat. Served with couscous and vegetables; the veggies were cold and the carrots didn't taste sweet or flavored. Just seemed like quality produce was not used. Baklava and tea: the taste of the baklava was ok. Baklava is one of my favorites and I make it myself from a Lebanese recipe. This one fell down with too many layers of fillo on top and a sweetener that could have been better tea was good and less sweet than is often the case. Bathroom grade B: 2 gendered restrooms. The mens was a little stinky and less pretty. Women's was ok, clean enough with ADA access. I'd recommend making both gender neutral, if the restaurant would like all guests to feel welcome. Party atmosphere with the expected recline seated options and rug- covered walls. There was a birthday celebrated at the next table and the waiter led singing using the microphone. It's hard to put into words the outstanding dining experience I had at El Morocco. My family surprised my cousin and me to a New Year's Eve celebration party filled with dinner, drinks, music, and dancing. My cousin and I felt like we were transported to Morocco--truly an experience we've never had before. The New Year's Eve celebration party was a full dinner that came with various Moroccan and Mediterranean appetizers and your choice of an entrée. The appetizers included Lentil Soup, Salad, Hummus, Bastilla, Baklava, and Moroccan Mint Tea. For my entrée, I ordered the Chicken Tajin. We shared the appetizers and entrées family style. It was my first time trying Moroccan food, and most of these dishes were unfamiliar territory to me. My favorite appetizer was the Lentil Soup which was flavorful, hearty, and packed with lentil beans. I also enjoyed trying Bastilla, which was light, flaky, sweet from the cinnamon, and savory from the chicken--a deceiving but delicious dish. I also enjoyed trying Chicken Tajin, which with two huge chicken thighs! It had a mix of cooked vegetables and was topped with olives and raisins--sweet, savory, and salty. What made it so memorable for my family was how fun, welcoming, and interactive the workers and guests were. There was live Arabic music, singing, and belly dancing which was a first for me! I was excited to try this place because it was my first time at a Moroccan restaurant and my first time watching a belly dancing performance. Upon entering I was captivated by and loved the ambience and decor. I really loved all the vibrant colors, draped fabric, pillows, poufs and intricate detailed furniture and lighting and lamps. We were greeted and seated in a perfect nook in the middle of the restaurant. We ordered drinks, moroccan wine - La ferme rouge, we got white and red to share. For food I ordered the honey chicken and my husband and my sons ordered lamb. The lentil soup was my little ones favorite and I really enjoyed the hummus appetizer. After dinner the belly dancing started and it was very fun and entertaining. They get the whole restaurant going and interacting. A few of our friends, including my husband (the birthday boy) got up to dance with Zahara. She did such a beautiful performance and we all really enjoyed it. After dinner they served a birthday Baklava to the celebrant and served the Moroccan mint tea and it's soooooo good, it could be the best hot tea ever I tasted. perfectly sweet and flavorful. Great way to end the meal and enjoy with dessert. I loved how everyone at the restaurant is really nice and friendly. It felt like we've been going there for many times over. I would definitely recommend this for a get-together, a celebration and a new and wonderful experience. read more
