    Chicken kabobs with rice

I came here to have lunch with a friend a couple days before Christmas. We both enjoyed our meals and the hospitality. I had to make a last-minute change of plans and bring my daughters, who were off from school. The restaurant staff accommodated us by allowing them to explore the special seating area and by providing us with two extra plates at no additional charge; that way I could share the chicken kabobs with them for lunch. I ordered the chicken kabobs for me and my daughters. My friend ordered the Afghan burger. The latter turned out to be a thin pita that was more like a tortilla. Inside were french fries, a halved sausage, and some lettuce and tomato. He said that the fries were not crispy due to sitting in the pita, but otherwise, it tasted great. We both received naan and an appetizer dish with our meals. I forgot to ask our server what was in the dish because I was focused on spending time with my friend. Judging by the taste, it was some small chunks of steamed white potato sitting in a pool of (olive?) oil. There was also a small chunk of a creamy, earthy food that seemed liked liver or some other kind of pate. The chicken kabobs were the star of the meal. The order included three skewers of seasoned chicken breast chunks. The presentation was a showstopper. Somehow they managed to cook the chicken breast without drying it out -- challenge met! The accompanying rice pilaf was also seasoned well. Finally, there was an accompanying small plate of "salad" which consisted of some shredded iceberg lettuce, a few small hothouse tomato slices, some white onion slices, some green pepper slices, some cucumber slices, and a watery yogurt dip. The plate reminded me of how difficult it is to source fresh vegetables this far north in December. Maybe they will have more fresh veggies if I return in the summer. However, they did the job by offering some crunchy and slightly bitter bites to balance the savory chicken and rice pilaf. I didn't see any eating utensils when our food arrived. It turns out that they were underneath the naan. We made do with the one set that was provided to us. However, I am sure that the servers will bring you more if you simply ask. We all drank bottled water from the refrigerated case in the market side of the space. They also had some domestic and Middle Eastern drinks available, e.g. drinkable yogurt. This place is definitely worth a return trip. I like goat and lamb, but they are difficult to find except at Middle Eastern and central Asian restaurants in OKC. Afghan Kabob House has goat and lamb skewers, and they're the same price as the chicken skewers (!). In the summer, it will also be fun to try the ice cream treats in the case near the checkout counter.
