We ordered the bendi, mantu, chapli kabob, and qabli rice. All items were delicious. We were actually accompanied by an Afghan friend and who was impressed with the mantu. The prices were reasonable. For dessert, we had the sheer yakh, a delicious traditional ice cream made by hand on premise. It was served with crushed pistachio topping. Note that this is not on their current printed menu, so ask for it to round up the meal! The staff was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is clean and well air-conditioned. They play Afghan (Farsi/Pashto) music, which adds an authentic ambiance to the dining experience. There is ample parking.

I would recommend the mantu and the chicken kabobs!! It does take a while for the food to come, but that's how you know it's fresh!! The dessert ice cream is a flavorful and different than other ice creams I have had.

We got the family meal! The serving was plenty and was very delicious! We will be coming back for sure!

Qabuli Palao Rice: loved the raisins and caramelized carrots. Perfectly cooked rice that was fluffy. Mantu-Beef Dumpling: presentation was great and the aromatics were strong. Borani Banjan-Eggplant: plenty of tomato sauce that also paired well with the Afghani bread. Eggplant was cooked down to be soft and delicate. Flatbreads were amazing and reminded me of Chinese leek dumplings. The flatbread was actually thinner than expected. Super crispy edges and bigger portion size than expected. A great appetizer that feeds at least two people. Bolani-Leek: definitely uses plenty of leek. Bolani-Mix Potato/Leek: the potato balances with the leek flavor

Something that I cannot make, something that I've tried, yet the establishment still finds a way to give me a different and enjoyable experience. Boneless Chicken and Beef Koobideh Combo: One of the most dangerous things to order, as both things can either come out as dry, or start off as great, then dry up before you can finish. None of those scenarios happened here. The chicken was soft, juicy, seasoned very well, and it stayed that way. The beef koobideh had this smoky flavor profile, which is different from what I normally expect, and I liked it. Potato Boloni: I've never had boloni in my life, and the closest comparison I have is a Chinese or Korean pancake. The boloni had areas of spiciness, and I think it had room to go higher. It's definitely an appetizer, and I won't mind having it again. Service: There were only 2-3 occupied tables when we went. I think the staff had plenty of time to take our orders, give us water, and the food arrived within a reasonable time. Ambiance: You could tell that the restaurant was designed to host wedding receptions or larger parties in mind. Stage, lights, and a bunch of stuff that may be overwhelming for some. I didn't mind. Good food is all that matters.

It went downhill fast. I know our go to order, smoked beef kabob, extra spicy biryani, and extra spicy chicken karahi. As we were seated, I immediately let our server know the order. By 6:47 my order was in. At around 7:20 was when I first requested status on our meal. I was told it was just coming out. By 7:30 I am being told its still coming out. I believe it took them close to 1 hour after our order was taken to bring it out. We asked to speak to a manager and were told twice they were coming and never came... we were asked once through our almost 2 hour restaurant time if we wanted a refill of water, which never was replenished. Not once, and I mean not once, were we asked if food was okay. If we needed anything else. When asked for boxes to go, it took a long time to get those to us. I have been to Khan Saab so many times now, and not once has the experience left such an awful taste in my mouth. The service was extremely bad. I know you guys are busy opening new locations, but you have to also concentrate on keeping the quality of service we have come to admire at your restaurant. Please take a note and provide feedback to staff. The food, like mentioned before, was outstanding. Each dish was exquisite and mouthwatering. Management needs to really step up on whatever today was. I am left truly disappointed in my overall experience.

Their second location in LA is in Hawaiian Gardens. Gorgeous interior, perfect place for a date or gathering. They have large spaces and private areas inside. And, many of the dishes have a very visual interactive moment like their table side bhel puri, puri, or their chicken biriyani and smoked beef. From modern authentic dishes to street food they have it all. The sloppy khans were also delicious! I really enjoyed their curry dishes with the garlic naan. They have so many dishes to try! The larger, open space was a huge plus compared to the more compact Fullerton location, and the new items like chapli kebabs and different karahi variations were refreshing. This easily could have become our favorite location. Unfortunately, since Shor rebranded as Khan Saab, the overall experience seems to have gone downhill. The staff themselves are always nice, genuine, and willing to help, but once the restaurant gets even a little busy, they seem overwhelmed and clearly understaffed. Compared to the original Fullerton location, especially when more of the familiar OG staff were there, the service does not feel as polished or consistent. Our last visit was particularly disappointing. We ordered chicken karahi, chicken tikka masala, biryani, and bhel puri. The bhel puri was extremely dry with very little sauce and tasted poorly balanced. Nearly everything else, including the biryani, karahi, and tikka masala, was overly salty. The chicken karahi was the biggest disappointment. It is usually one of my go-to dishes at Khan Saab, but this time it barely tasted like karahi and was more like a generic curry. I understand this location does not offer boneless karahi, which is completely fine, but the flavor and quality should still be consistent. This location has so much potential because of the space and the Khan Saab name, but the consistency in both food and service just isn't there right now. I'll probably avoid this location for a while and hope ownership and Chef Ali Mookhi take notice and bring the standards back up.

Still, we fondly remembered their generous, delicious portions, so we placed an online order. The website didn't give a readiness time, but remembering that they used to prepare everything fresh and take their sweet time, I told my husband we should wait a bit before heading out. When I walked in, the employees were chatting and laughing, which was nice to see. Then I noticed a pile of takeout orders sitting on a shelf. Hungry as I was, I silently prayed none of them were ours; I utterly despise cold food. I gave my name to the cashier--who skipped the greeting entirely--and was told it wasn't ready yet. I said thanks and took a seat. While I was waiting, another customer asked about her order and was initially dismissed with a "no." After a second look, the cashier called her back: "Oh, this is yours. It's been ready." No apology, just a cold shoulder. The customer was understandably ticked off. The real plot twist, however, happened when I got home. Apparently, "two skewers" now translates to a grand total of five pieces of chicken. That is definitely not what it used to be. To make matters worse, my worst nightmare came true: the food was cold. Well, not the chicken, but the french fries and pita bread were stone-cold and stale. Lately, I've been going to Luna Grill down the street. They actually serve fresh, much tastier food--and at prices that don't feel like highway robbery.
