Every bite was full of authentic Afghan flavor, and everything tasted incredibly fresh and delicious. The Afghan ice cream was amazing too! It tasted just like the traditional ice cream you would find in Kabul. It was freshly prepared, rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. The restaurant was exceptionally clean, comfortable, and welcoming. The waiters and staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and professional, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. I had no idea this place even existed! Afghan food has always been one of my favorite cuisines, so the second I found Afghan Shams, I knew I had to check it out. The chicken koobideh kabob was easily my favorite--it was incredibly juicy and packed with flavor in every bite. I was also pleasantly surprised by the chipotle chicken sandwich. If you come to Afghan Shams, the Mantu is definitely a must try! Absolutely delicious and full of flavor. The staff here were very attentive, welcoming, and friendly throughout the entire visit, which made the experience even better. Also -- the ice cream here is SO good! We ordered the bendi, mantu, chapli kabob, and qabli rice. All items were delicious. We were actually accompanied by an Afghan friend and who was impressed with the mantu. The prices were reasonable. For dessert, we had the sheer yakh, a delicious traditional ice cream made by hand on premise. It was served with crushed pistachio topping. Note that this is not on their current printed menu, so ask for it to round up the meal! The staff was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is clean and well air-conditioned. They play Afghan (Farsi/Pashto) music, which adds an authentic ambiance to the dining experience. There is ample parking. read more

I tried this place a few times before giving a review so I'd know exactly what to give. my favorite dish from this place is the Chicken Karahi as it is very flavorful. The waiters and waitresses best skills is their memory. We tell them a long and complicated order and with no notes or paper to write on, they bring exactly what we asked. When we eat as a family there we like to receive all our food at once but they tend to give us our orders one by one and some of us eat while others ate left hungry for a while. But I wouldn't dock a point for this. I would recommend asking if we are wanting to eat everything at once or if they can bring it one by one. I love that this Afghan restaurant was opened and the food is very delicious, though. read more

The service here is not great here. The server we had was really trying but I could tell others were just sitting around. Seemed like most of the staff were people watching and gossiping instead of doing anything. Our server was running around doing everything. We should have known it was not going to be a good meal when they informed us they were out of chicken when we tried to order. The drinks took an hour before arriving at our table and the food took even longer. It would have been quicker to walk across the street to get innout. When the food arrived, we were extremely disappointed with the portion size of the meat relative to everything else and most of the meat was super dry. My Afghan friends were extremely disappointed and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I would recommend the mantu and the chicken kabobs!! It does take a while for the food to come, but that's how you know it's fresh!! The dessert ice cream is a flavorful and different than other ice creams I have had. read more

Not sure what's going on with the reviews... but I came here for an Afghan Concert Event on Saturday night. The parking is limited however the service was outstanding - the food was on point and fresh. I loved the samosa and beef w spicy rice. The staff was prompt and friendly. We had about 150 guest and everything went well. Will be back to try the chapli kabob heard it's yummy. They also have Afghan ice cream which I also need to try. read more

Very Disappointed...!!!! We Waited for an hour before we got the food. This is not Afghan food. The food had no flavor and salt. The Qabuli is definitely not Afghan Qabuli palaw.. The kabob was somewhat ok. The Chapli kabob was burned and no taste. They forgot to bring the drinks and after the third time asking we finally got it. I know it's a new restaurant but they need to hire an Afghan chef and fix their food and wait time or they fail. They are very friendly but need to work on their service. read more

My family and I went to Afghan Shamsh Restaurant today, and it was a complete disaster The food was horribleI have a headache now and feel like throwing up The salad was clearly leftover from at least a day ago. With the chapli kebab, there wasn't even any salad they just brought the kebab with nothing, no rice. We ordered several kinds--lamb kebab, shish kebab, chicken kebab, and mixed kebab--and none of them had even a bit of rice. Every kebab was dry; the meat was clearly leftover from two or three days ago. The service was awful--we waited over an hour and 20 minutes just to get our food. And on top of that, they charged a fortune for such terrible quality. I will never go back, no matter what. To the owner: please make your food fresh and hire people who know how to cook. Shams Afghan Restaurant is the real deal. This is from-scratch cooking, not fast food and definitely not microwaved or rushed. Everything is made after you order. If you choose a slow-cooked meat dish, expect to wait sometimes close to an hour and that's exactly why it tastes so good. The flavors are deep, authentic, and clearly made with care. This is not a place for a quick bite. If you want fast food, there's a Taco Bell down the block. If you want real Afghan food done right, Shams is absolutely worth the wait. I know they just opened about a day ago, but their food is horrible. We got their qabuli uzbeki pulao, vegetable samosas, chapli kabob and bendi and they missed the mango lassi that was ordered and my friend's shami chicken and beef was also missed. The samosas were brought to us cold. The pulao had no flavor and the chapli kabob was burnt. The only thing that was okay was the bread and the water. They also didn't have items from the menu we wanted, such as mantu and bolani. Overall very disappointed with our experience. Hope they can get it together since they just opened. read more

If it was possible I would have given this place 0 because of the rudeness of the owner and it's unfortunate that this person is so dry and rude I was planning a lunch for some friends and family so I spoke to lady she was extremely nice and took my number to have owner give details I promise my great son in law who is visiting from Florida he had Mundi and he was bragging about the meat and flavor to his family about the food so this time I choose Afghanistan cuisine and so I spoke with him about dum pukht lamb and different dishes so we want to give exposure to Anglo white people a positive experience because Afghanistan and its people a positive impact through cusine and culture i am from Pakistan and I know turning people hate to be positive about Afghans people through hospitality and food he went to charge 15 dollars per lamb shanks 25 dollars and other dishes same way he is just barely open the restaurant and doesn't understand how marketing works same old rude way back home doesn't work in America you will be out of game soon and what really upsetting was his stance if you don't want to pay go somewhere else it is simply a rude last thing you want to tell your potential customers and could be in better way is not what you say but select your words carefully. 5 dollars per cup of tea star bucks doesn't charge that coffee with all fixing is less that tea cup .I would say please stay away from this type of rudeness and don't patronize places .I understand things are little price but not that crazy outrageous. I don't understand the thing when they open their places what is the motive behind it. It was nice to see a new big Afghan restaurant in Anaheim, little Arabia town. On a Saturday I expected the restaurant with people dining. There was none. I ordered boloni (flatbread stuffed leek). It was ok, not much flavor. They used premade store bought dough which was not authentic. Based on the reviews here I don't think the restraint will last long. Do not trust this restaurant with your catering. They charge exorbitantly high prices for terrible quality food. We ordered food for a party for 25 people and they provided us with burnt, flavorless, tasteless food, enough salad for 4 people, and forgot part of our order. They did not provide Chutney as promised. The owner didn't even tell me he forgot part of our order until the order was en-route so we didn't even have the opportunity to exchange something in its place. The delivery was late. He gave me enough kabob (which was burnt and inedible) for maybe 10 people despite charging for 25. I have photos below. Do not trust this restaurant with your catering, you will be disappointed. We had to order food from ANOTHER restaurant on that day to cover food for our guests. If I could give this place a 0 star I would. I ordered $130 worth of food and called on the phone to ask them what time I should come in. They said come at 6 and I did. Then they made me wait 55 mins AFTER I came in at 6, and they kept saying it's getting packed. I told them I was going to was to walk out and then magically my food was ready. Mind you the people I was taking food for have health restrictions and can only eat at a certain time and I made sure to try and get it way before the deadline but they couldn't honor what they said. I would understand if they were busy, but the store was not busy either. Then the food itself lacked flavor and was cold. As an Afghan, I love supporting Afghan places and this was truly a disappointing experience. read more
