Loved the food here! The mantoo is incredible. It's hard to find places with mantoo so I'm glad there is one in such a great location. The lamb platter was really good too. We found this place after heading to get tacos but the nearby restaurant was too loud for us. This place is oozing with personality, very cozy and well decorated. The service was fast and polite. The food was delicious. This place offers Mediterranean and Indian fusion, we had the chicken tikka masala and it was excellent, but hadn't tried any Mediterranean food, though most of the people there were ordering Mediterranean food and it looked great too. You know how you can tell if a Chinese restaurant is good based on how many Chinese people eat there? Yeah, it's the same here, this place is clearly popular with the locals. I saw this restaurant on a story by Rachel Brown on Eyewitness News. I stopped here for lunch and lucky for us the owner was there. He was very nice and explained every dish. I had the Shishlik Kebab. It's a meat of your choice mixed with broccoli, onions, and shredded carrots. I got it with lamb served spicy. You can order it without spice. Traditionally you're not supposed to eat it spicy. It was the most delicious lamb I've ever had. It was cooked well done and was very tender and flavorful. I practically licked the plate. The restaurant is an Afghan decor and has outdoor seating. It's in a shopping center so it's a great lunch spot or a place you would like to order at the counter and grab a seat. read more

Nested in a shopping center, Kebab Kurry Express is a hidden gem. It has Indian/ Afghanistan/ Mediterranean cuisines. The place is nice and clean. They have outdoor seating as well. I opted to sit indoors for the AC. I believe it was the owner who recommended me what to get. He was really sweet and helped navigate through the menu. I ordered the Chapli Kebab. (See photo). It was so flavorful and paired with rice/salad. Perfect for a lunch meal. This kind of Kebab is a flattened ground beef with a bunch of spices. You can get it non spicy or spicy. I chose the non spicy and got their hot sauce on the side. You must try their home made hot sauce. It's a hot sauce like no other. It has spices and other things in it. Not a hot sauce like you normally would get but it's bursting with flavor. Oh, another item I ordered was the Hummus. It's creamy and delicious. Also, the warm garlic naan was so good. We had Qabili Palau, an Afghan national dish - lamb shank served with savory basmati rice with carrots and raisins. Excellent and satisfying! Chive Boland with yogurt. A thin, crispy flatbread stuffed with chives. Delicious! And Firni for dessert. A creamy rice custard with crushed pistachio. Big enough for two. Refreshing and just sweet enough. What a find! Tucked away in a strip mall down the street from South Coast Mall, this Afghan place serves piping hot, fresh food. Literally a mom and pop place with the adult kids helping to serve and take orders, the food is prepared with tender loving care and served with friendly smiles. Afghan locals filled the small space on a Saturday night; a welcoming community feel. The filet mignon kebab platter had eight hot off the grill well marinated tender chunks of beef, served on a large bed of perfectly cooked rice...the long grains were separated not mushy and flavored with sumac and a serve yourself chutney. Salad came with it. Encouraged by the first dish I ordered two others. The mantoo was outstanding - a full plate of a dozen thin skinned ravioli filled with leek and mushroom, topped with lentils in a light tomato and mint sauce with yogurt drizzled. The Aushak was also superb comfort food, the thin ravioli filled with ground beef (also topped with ground beef sauce) and a herbaceous sauce. Big portions at $17 for the last two dishes, $22 for the kebabs. A really pleasant meal for 3 people at $18 each person. Feels like an upscale home cooked meal, really hit the spot. I ordered a ton of things but the place was very packed the young man behind the cash register taking my order was very knowledgeable, nice and give me good recommendations. I'm so happy to find a place like this close to work that feels more mom and pop and not too commercial. It feels like a family restaurant!!!!! I love how hardworking all the staff is.
