We had a few appetizers, Pani puri pretty good and easy to eat because how it's served like shots, bhel puri was ok and tasted a bit old. The lamb seekh were a bit hard and too gamey for me. The restaurant entrance is next to the parking structure, not the one facing the street. I had high expectations before I chowed down. The service was great. The server had his recommendations prepared. Drinks (no alcohol served here): $11 Falsatini - I thought this was a play on "false", like fake, cocktail. But falsa is just a berry found in India. This drink is like a smoothie served in a salt-rimmed glass. Tower of Peshwar - refreshing cucumber and basil Appetizers: Kulcha $14 - this was fun to try. The tomato sauce was my favorite thing in the ENTIRE meal. That's saying something. Sloppy khan $14 - We got two sliders in one order. The meet was so flavorful/spiced that it tasted almost like lamb to me. Mains: Afghani Seekh kabob $21 - This was the dish I was looking forward to the most, but it ended up being my least favorite. SHORT VERSION: I've tried a lot of restaurants for upscale south asian/desi food over the years, but this one is hands down my favorite - it's no surprise that they have Michelin awards year after year. LONG VERSION: I've been at least 10 times in the last 5 years and it never disappoints whether it's for an intimate dinner for 2 or a celebration dinner for 10. My parents and in-laws are always fussy about going out for desi food but as soon as my father arrives in SoCal, he always asks me "when are we going to Khan Saab?" with an intense excitement that I rarely see from him about anything else lol. I've tried every dish on the food menu through the years and everything is always a delight and joy to savor. Each item always tastes really high quality especially the proteins which are remarkably succulent. The seasoning for the curries and sauces are also always perfectly balanced so you can really enjoy the great flavors, without it being excessively oily, spicy, or overpowering like at a lot of other desi places. Each dish comes with a beautiful plating or presentation for it (see the pics/videos) which really makes it feel like a special dining experience whenever you go. It's clear the chef and owner take great pride in ensuring the quality and standard of the food they send out and so it's no surprise that they have consistently received so many Michelin awards - love that there is a halal paksitani/desi restaurant achieving this! Servers are very attentive and the restaurant feels classy but still relaxed and comfortable. The decor is very nice with all the food served in metal glasses and plates giving an authentic traditional Pakistani vibe throughout the meal. If you haven't been before, the must try item is the karahi chicken - a perfect tomato sauce, an excellent size portion to share, and it goes amazingly with their home made tandoori naans. The other items I always love to get are the chicken 65 (starter), malai chicken or smoked beef (kabobs), and the sloppy khan. Honestly though, you can confidently order anything from the menu and you won't be disappointed so just go ahead and try anything or everything that you like the sound of. What does one do when they enjoy Pakistani food but nobody around them will entertain the idea of even looking at the menu? Well, you can give up but that's not how I was raised. Then what? Well, my friends, you wait until it's your birthday and your loved ones ask, "Where do you want to go for your birthday dinner?" In response you say, "I don't know, what does everyone else want to eat?" At which point, everyone will return by saying, "No David, it's your birthday, where do you want to go?" That's when you know you got them. You smile sheepishly and say in a soft voice, "How about Khan Saab Desi Craft Kitchen?" But the trick is to say it really fast so nobody quite catches what you say, leading them to instincively say, "Sure!" Now that you got half the battle won, you drive down to the restaurant and get everyone seated before they start looking around too hard. When the waiter comes to take the drink order, you go ahead and order entrees for the table. Remember, in war and in life, the first person to act usually ends up having the upper hand. Keep in mind though, when you order that you want the people in your group to have an enjoyable meal, so you ease them into the experience. You might do well to order the Beef Kabobs, Khan Biryani, Tandoori Jhinga and Tandoori Chicken, all of which newbies won't be intimidated by; save the curries for another time. I even checked where was it along with 3 rice orders because everyone got their food already and were almost done eating. The waiter said it was coming but it turns out he never checked because EVERYONE finished their food and I still didn't have mine. We shared the Pani Puri ($7), Bhindi masala ($17), lamb Rogan Josh ($20), chicken karahi ($24), garlic naan ($5), malal naan ($6), and smoked beef kebab ($21) for 4 people. They accidentally gave us the Sloppy khan, so they comped it so that was nice. Overall this was a unique restaurant, and the flavors of the dishes were strong and with spicy kicks, but some dishes were on the salty side. The dishes were also in the small side for the price. My fave dish was the sloppy khan (flavorful beef with a crispy bread). The bhindi masala was also very flavorful, although salty. The beef kebab had a great smoky flavor, but wasn't as tender as I prefer. The lamb was pretty tender, but there weren't many pieces in the dish. The chicken karahi came in a huge pan, which was cool, but there weren't many pieces inside. It had a spicier kick than I prefer, but the chicken was tender. I had seen this place when it used to be on Resy but I hadn't tried it yet. At my work a coworker who lives in the same area I do mentioned it and how she and her husband absolutely loved it! She highly recommended it and I was already intrigued so we decided to check it out. We came for a late lunch on a Saturday but because we heard that reservations are highly recommended we had made a reservation. They have parking inside of the structure and short walk to the entrance. They have a very unique and welcoming ambiance. The moment you walk in you are transported somewhere else. We are creatures of habit and tend to order our "safe" items. In this case we asked them what was popular and what they recommended. We decided to share a sloppy khan, smoked beef kabobs, chicken karahi and garlic naan. We are glad we ordered an appetizer to share as the food took a very long time to come out. I would recommend not to come here starving and be patient. They take a while, but the quality and flavour are worth the wait. The sloppy khan was tasty and kind of reminded you of a sloppy Joe but the Indian version of it. The bread was sturdy enough to keep the shape but soft to bite and very rich in flavours. The smoked beef kabob was my absolutely favourite from presentation to the flavour. They do the smoke show at your table and present this beautiful dish with very tender meat that is really flavourful. The beef is so tender that it almost falls apart. I would highly recommend trying this. On the other hand, my bfs favorite dish was the chicken karahi which as expected is rich in flavor and has a tomato based sauce with some jalapeños. This one has a kick for sure specially if you eat the jalapeños since they have all their seeds. The sauce was delicious but spicy for me. The naan was a good size and perfect for dipping in the sauce. At the end of our meal, they bro if it up a dessert which was interesting. I don't think I've had something like it before. After googling, it seems like it is Indian cheese with some milk and flower scent. We will be back probably for dinner to appreciate the decor a bit better since it looks like it might be prettier at night and we want to try more of their dishes. We will ensure not to be hungry! Came here all the way back during the grand opening around 2019 and it's amazing to see how much Khan Saab has grown since then. This place continues to live up to the hype and there's a reason it has been Michelin recognized with Bib Gourmand honors for multiple years. The restaurant has a beautiful upscale atmosphere with low lighting that makes it perfect for a date night, special occasion, or even a nice dinner with family and friends. Service here is always welcoming and attentive. The staff genuinely makes you feel taken care of from the moment you walk in. There's parking available in the garage nearby and street parking as well, which makes visiting Downtown Fullerton pretty convenient. The menu is one of the most unique halal dining experiences in Orange County because it blends Pakistani, Indian, Afghan, and American fusion flavors together in such a creative way. Everything is packed with flavor and beautifully plated. Their beef kebabs, chicken karahi, biryani, butter chicken, wagyu options, steaks, and street food inspired appetizers are all incredibly rich and satisfying. The service at Khan Saab was lovely, warm, and friendly. The food takes a while to come out but we had someone from our party order while the rest of us were en route. The drinks are amazing! They are so pretty and taste wonderful. Even if you like alcoholic drinks, these mocktails taste like the real thing. We tried mango mojito and peshwar mule among others and we loved them all. It is so cool when they smoked one of the drinks at the table. The kids were mesmerized! The food is all presented in such a festive and cute way, such as pani puri as a shot glass of pani with the filled puri on top. The food tasted amazing. Not too spicy and you could taste all the flavors. The butter paneer and kulcha were among our favorites. The vegetarian biryani is not om their menu but we had some regulars with us who told us they do make it on request during the weekdays. It is served in a clay pot with a naan draped over top and then they cut it open fresh at your table. Had Khan Saab for a casual Sunday night dinner and here's how it went down: Great ambiance, gets pretty dark at night in the dining room. Parking was fairly easy to find on Sunday night and we had no problem getting a table after making the reservation earlier in the day. Food was decent, naan was delicious and the pani puri, palak paneer hit the spot. Didn't get to order any meat dishes so I'll be saving it for the next visit. Service though, everyone except our server was friendly & accommodating. Our main server seemed he could use night off. When it comes to the food, I thought it was very flavorful and pretty authentic; everything seemed like it was made fresh, flavors were strong, and food came out hot. The menu has a lot of options as well, so I'm sure anyone can find something that they are interested in. Unfortunately, that's all I can say for the positives for my experience. We waited for over an hour and a half for our food. Several other parties who came after us were being served their dishes, with some of them larger than us. We asked occasionally regarding our meal status but we never were given a straight answer, apology, or any compensation for how long we waited--not even an acknowledgement of their delay or mistake as well when we pointed it out to them. If this is how it was on a Wednesday, I worry how it is going at busier times of day. Also, be mindful that they also include a 18% service fee for parties 6+. The facility wasn't packed at the time we were there so parking was easy. It is street parking though, so just be mindful when going because I know they can get busy on weekends and there's a coffee shop close by which also gets a lot of attention as well. I understand this place is popular, but other friends I know have also expressed how long their wait is usually at the restaurant. Prices are also a bit high for the portion provided, so check the menu ahead of time so you aren't surprised. Friends of mine have also expressed discontent with the service, wait times, and prices, which seems to be a recurrent issue with this place. Don't come here thinking you'll be getting a world-class Michelin restaurant experience. In fact I'm not sure how or why Michelin attached their name to this place. I can find no Michelin review anywhere online. Let's start with the ok. Butter Chicken gravy was great, but the dish had about half as much chicken as you'd expect. The Lamb Rogan Josh gravy was very good, and here there was a decent amount of meat. Now the not so ok. First the decor. Looks ok at first glance with the mural and nice light fixtures, but the chairs are mixed and most of them are some kind of grubby pink velour that needs a serious clean. Our table was also sticky when we sat down. So wiped down perhaps, but not well. I only mention all this because it's not what you would expect from a restaurant with the Michelin name attached. Now the worst part. The service. Our waiter was pleasant enough when taking our order but we never saw him again apart from a quick tell me if you need anything which only works when you keep checking in on your table. No water refills. No asking if we want more drinks. Worst of all, we sat for 10-15 minutes with dirty plates and dishes in front of us, clearly done, and despite staring vacantly in our direction, our waiter never once came over to clear the table. In the end another waiter was good enough to notice and clear the plates. Then a third waiter took our credit card. And then a fourth waiter brought it back. We never saw our original waiter again even though I could clearly see him standing around near the front of the restaurant for most of our time there. I hesitated to write this. I don't like leaving bad reviews because I know most restaurants try their best. But this place hangs its hat on the Michelin thing and it simply isn't what most people would expect of a Michelin rated or recognized restaurant, and I'd hate for others to make the same mistake we did. I'll finish on a positive. The prices are reasonable. And again, if they added more chicken to the dish, the Butter Chicken is very good. So if you want reasonably priced Pakistani food and don't mind a rundown interior and spotty service, this is worth a shot. But don't go if you think you're going to get what you imagine a Michelin experience might be. PS: I believe Mint in Laguna Hills is a sister restaurant. The food there is excellent, the service is great, and the decor/ambiance is clean, modern, and upscale. PPS: They don't serve alcohol. Not a ding, just an fyi. If you are the owner or manager reading this, I suggest: 1/ Assign one waiter per table/customer and make sure they are watching and serving their tables with quiet efficiency. Nobody wants to wait for refills and definitely nobody wants dirty/empty dishes on the table. 2/ Invest a few $$ replacing those pink velour chairs. Make sure your chairs all match. And make sure your tables are wiped down perfectly between customers. Nobody wants to sit down to a sticky table. 3/ Put more meat in your dishes. Came here late at night with my girlfriend and we wanted something a little more fancy and trying to improve our flavor profile. So we found this Michelin rated restaurant. Overall, we were very impressed with the restaurant. Although we did not LOVE it, we didn't hate it and we came out of it very happy with the experience. Sloppy Khan Recommended by our server. I really liked this. It was like a sloppy Joe Indian style sandwich. It was spicy and savory and I think this was the best dish of the night. Butter Chicken One of my girlfriend's favorite Indian food and we had to try it. I liked this more than the next dish purely because it was less spicy than the Chicken Karahi. This place is pretty high up on my list of favorite Desi spots so far. Despite the restaurant not being very large, there were enough seats for us to have a pretty short wait time on Christmas Day. The smoked beef kebabs were the star of the show; they were deliciously smoky and tender. We honestly thought they were the best kebabs we've ever had in our lives. They came in a glass dome filled with smoke wafting out as they lifted the glass. I didn't include any kebab photos, because they were the first thing to come out and were so delicious that we gobbled them up before I could take photos. In addition to the kebabs, we also had the dal lala mussa, butter chicken, rice, and garlic naan. I preferred the naan, while my bf liked rice (we always order these for ourselves, respectively). They were all pretty good, but for entrees we liked the butter chicken more than the dal. Maybe it's because the butter chicken's sauce's flavor profile was stronger than the latter, so it made the dal taste less "punchy." (It wasn't bad, but I'd want to try the other dal next time.) The mint chutney tasted fresh and complemented the entrees' flavors well. For drinks and dessert, we had the mango and malai kulfis and mango lassi. The mango lassi was creamy and tangy; I bought one from the store to satiate my cravings later, but it obviously didn't compare. The kulfis were also wonderfully creamy. We dropped by for dinner after a long day at Knotts and were excited by the smells of the place upon entry. We like the smoked beef kabob which was very tasty, tender and came with a tangy, balanced sauce. The restaurant certainly like their drama - the beef was displayed in a cloche with smoke inside and they ask if you want to film when they lift the cloche. The lamb rogan josh was a very lean cut version of the dish - gingery and very tender meat. Butter chicken also relatively lean, but solid. The shrimp masala curry had the best sauce, creamy and delicious, but the shrimp were not good at all, grossly overcooked and hard. The naans all tasty (we had the plain, garlic and malai (cheese) naan- latter being our favorite) although unfortunately the rice was a bit unevenly cooked. We also were recommended for and got the goat cheese naan appetizer but perhaps not worth it if getting lots of other naan and curries later. The highlight of the meal was the steamed cheese dumpling dessert very nice - delicate with rose and pistachio flavors. Overall 3.5 stars for food, rounded down for the nuked shrimp, price, and a slow service. (We had spills that required multiple requests to help clean up, hard to get hold of the waitstaff for water refills, multiple requests before we got back our napkins, etc.) We also saw many people order the chicken karachi (served dramatically tableside in a large wok) with a biryani - so perhaps that may be worth a try. . read more

We visited the Fullerton location for Mother's Day, and unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. The restaurant was overcrowded, and despite having a reservation, we waited a long time just to be seated. After finally sitting down, it took nearly an hour for our food to arrive. The restaurant itself did not feel well maintained. The restrooms were dirty, with long lines and poor cleanliness throughout the evening. Our table had visible food stains, and the chairs looked worn out and unclean. Overall, the dining area felt neglected and far below the standard you would expect from a restaurant that appears on the Michelin Guide. The staff appeared overwhelmed and overworked due to the volume of customers. While the servers were polite, communication was sometimes difficult, and service suffered because the restaurant seemed focused more on packing in customers than providing a quality dining experience. Ironically, the Hawaiian Gardens location has newer furniture and plates, although the surrounding area does not feel as safe. This used to be one of our favorite locations, which made the experience even more disappointing. It's honestly surprising that a restaurant recognized by the Michelin Guide would allow the level of cleanliness and organization we experienced that night. We hope management improves staffing, cleanliness, and overall service because the restaurant clearly has potential, but our Mother's Day visit was chaotic and below expectations. read more

We went to Kahn Saab last month for my son's birthday and it was his choice. Their food is amazing and Halal. The mocktails are spectacular. The place is beautifully lit and the service is exceptional. We all shared everything family style and still had leftovers. Of course the butter chicken is always one of the standouts, but I'm a huge fan of their lamb as well and the cheese stuffed naan is out of this world. read more

We attended Khan Saab, after craving Indian food. When it first opened in Fullerton, I had wanted to try it, especially after it received the Michelin Bibb rating. I hadn't visited, since it didn't have cocktails, but tonight I just wanted quality. Pakistani food is a little different than what I'm used to, so I had to study the menu a bit, but the server and service were amazing! I wish I could remember his name. He described the menu and was more than patient with all my questions. Not only that, but everyone that approached the table was super friendly, and described what to do with dishes they dropped off, as they weren't necessarily self explanatory to me. lol aka the pani puri! Loved the food, and I can't wait to go back. I was really craving something saucy, so I wasn't that adventurous, unfortunately, perhaps next time. Loved the naan, the butter chicken, and the peshawri mule! I also got the classic chicken curry, which I wasn't the biggest fan of, because I thought it was a little too soupy- I probably will take the server's suggestion next time to get the karahi, instead. Okay, the thing I loved the most, was the ambiance. My picture doesn't do the Romantic, dimly lit restaurant, justice. I love that it was open late, too, there were other diners, and we didn't feel rushed! Again, can't wait to go back! Thanks to our server and the establishment! I often feel when I'm underdressed or with young people, or other minorities, we are quick to be judged, given crappy service, and aren't attended to, like other patrons; especially in settings of another culture. I came for the Orange County Restaurant Week. The special menu looked great and fairly priced. I came for an early dinner on a weekday and there was no wait time. There were a few stragglers who came in after a while but it was basically just me in there for most of the time. There is tons of seating and the restaurant looks nice and spacious. The food was decent overall. The bhel puri came out first. I prefer dahi bhel usually because the yogurt lightens up the dish and adds a little sweetness and tang. The bhel puri tasted kind of one-note, just salty. It was still delicious but the portion size was really inappropriate for two people. It's hard to box up because it's not good later, so I forced myself to eat the giant plate and was so full afterwards that I could barely eat the entrees. I would have preferred a much smaller portion (1/3 the size) with an extra curry or naan instead. The chana masala, curries, rice, and naan all came out together after a long wait. The chana masala was my favorite. It's spicy and chunky with a ton of lentils. My partner said the chicken curry was more like a bowl of seasoned oil with 2 pieces of chicken floating in it than a curry. It was basically all oil so we passed on spooning it over rice. It felt like a shame because the flavor and spice were there. The palak paneer was amazing. It was this beautiful vibrant green color with a delicious spinachy buttery flavor. There were only 2 small chunks of paneer in total which was really disappointing. The naan was super soft and fluffy with ghee drizzled over the top. The dessert came out a little late. It was okay. I liked the aroma and the sweetness. The bread itself was somewhat stale/hard. It may have been deep fried to preserve the crispiness while drenched in milk, but it was very dense, oily, and chewy as a result. Overall, it was a fun experience but I didn't love the food. Delicious food! The Butter Chicken, Saag Paneer, Basmati Rice, and Garlic Naan were all tasty. The highlights for me were 1. trying the imported sodas and 2. the Pani Puri shots. The green soda was so herbal and refreshing. The shots were delightfully zingy and savory. Our waiter was very nice. The biggest issue is the time it took for the food to come out.
