I've been going here for almost 9 years now and I recommend them! My permanent retainer broke and I had to come in to get it removed. They were actually able to get me in the next day, which was a blessing. I've always had a great experience here and the staff are all so polite and helpful. This office was exceptional a couple years ago. My kids and I actually enjoyed going. The staff knew us personally and was always very accommodating to our family needs without pushing for unnecessary procedures. Dr. Heck had performed numerous procedures on my kids teeth with high success. Once, he even comped a bill because he felt we should not need to pay for the extra procedure he needed to perform. Sometime in 2016 everything changed. The staff begin performing extra superlative procedures and charging our insurance. One time after an exam the hygienist took two photos with a pen camera. She took them saying "here, I'll show you how the tooth looks now." I thought nothing of all of this until I saw the bill. My insurance was charged for the two pointless pictures. Although this was a minor complaint, it was the beginning of a downward spiral of ridiculous and unjustifiable procedures done on myself and my children. Our last visit to that office was in 2017. My son needed short notice appointment for and inflamed capped tooth. They fit us in that day and extracted the capped tooth after taking multiple x-rays and administering various numbing medications. The tooth popped out with a small wiggle and practically no blood. I went to check out and find I was charged for the extra x-rays that they did that were not covered under insurance, even though they never mentioned that in the exam room. Finally, a few weeks later I received a bill for the entire procedure being told that their office no longer accepts my insurance. They had not checked our eligibility before going in for the appointment. I had been a patient at this office for three years. We had given them thousands of dollars through insurance and hundreds out of pocket, yet they were unwilling to wave an $80 bill that in my opinion was their mistake. read more

I have had only negative experiences when I go to Afinia. I first went when my bonding on my chipped front tooth came off, they were able to get me in the next day to have it fixed, which was good. From there it started going downhill. When I was in the chair waiting for the dentist she mentioned to me that the cosmetic surgery I am looking to get done (a simple bonding of a chipped tooth that I have had refilled many many times before by a different dentist) is one of the hardest to do, so she recommends chipping my OTHER FRONT TOOTH to be able to match the color. Ummm no. I have problems with just the one, why would I add another? She then proceeds to try and upsell me on numbing medication to get my tooth fixed. Never have I ever been offered numbing or gas for a bonding. She also tried to get me to change the fixing of my tooth from a simple bonding, to a veneer or cap right then and there, which clearly I didn't make an appointment for. Fast forward a month later, the bonding that this dentist put on, fell off. When I call to ask for an appointment to have it fixed, they got me in right away for the next day but stated on the phone "Can you come in at 8am tomorrow for Dr. (forget the name) to examine your tooth?" I followed up with yes, and asked "But she is going to fix it while i am there, right?" and the lady said "uhhhhh... yeah I would assume so". That didn't make me feel very confident. I go in to get it fixed, the SAME dentist that filled my previous bonding sits down and says this. "The way I do dentistry is by doing things I know will be permanent, and a bonding isn't. In this case, where a bonding has fallen off and I know I did everything I could to keep it on there, I wouldn't fill it." me thinking in my head I made an appointment for her to tell me she isn't filling my front chipped tooth. She proceeds to say "I will fill it for you today, but just know that once I put this on and if it comes off again, I won't do it again. After your appointment we will get you set up for a cap or veneer appointment" excuse me.... telling me if my tooth ever chips again and saying you wont fill it is plain rude. It's my tooth, if I want to to continue to get it filled like I have been then I should be able to, especially if I am paying for it. Every experience I have had here I always feel like I am trying to be sold something and not truly being taken care of. So if that's what you're going for, then this is the place for you. I will be going back to my previous dentist. It's worth driving further than going here. read more

Honestly the worst dental office I've ever dealt with. When the dental work THEY did failed I was told "that sometimes happens if the job is hurried". No apologies offered, no discounts, no compensation for my pain. I've asked multiple times for them to take me family off their list, still get calls regularly wanting us to make an appointment, but I'm still waiting for my apology, or any acknowledgement of their mistake. i lovelovelove this place. Seriously above and beyond any other place I've given a Yelp review for. The last time I went to a dentist was when I was in elementary school; my parents couldnt afford health insurance, and government sponsored healthcare rarely covers dental work. I looked up Afinia via Yelp, Google, and every case sounded like mine. I let my Wisdom tooth decayed and relied on orajel for years because I had no health insurance and was so scared of dental work. The staff at Afinia was super patient with me and I absolutely adore every single person I've interacted with. Customer service effort is SPOT on to the point that people treat you like family. New patient registration was so easy for me: I actually booked through yelp and then someone called to follow up. Patient intake forms are done online, so no extra waiting at the office! This place is great for people with a lot anxiety. Because its been so long, i had a whole dental wellness exam and found i had a myriad of cavities, along with gingivitis, and needed all of my wisdom teeth pulled. I was adamant on getting IV sedation, which even with my UC employee awesome healthcare, makes all of that super pricey. However Cara (Kara? So sorry cant remember) was fantastic with the financial counseling/planning and determined what would be my best options. Worry free there too! Dr. Voris was great with triple checking what I had to get done, and the communication between staff is awesome because Dr. Heck tagged team and made sure I was good to go with IV sedation. Earlier today i took the oral sedative i was prescribed and it really helped with the anxiety. 12 hours later im sitting in bed half loopy with zero recollection of what happened during my three hour procedure but writing this review feeling loads better. Might forget to do so otherwise. Tl;dr best anxiety-free dentist. Staff, Dr. Heck, and Dr. Voris are great. read more

My husband needed his yearly cleaning and we decided to try a place closer to us. Based off of reviews we decided on Afinia. A simple cleaning turned into one thing after another. They continued to add services (WITHOUT) letting him know they weren't covered. Then continue to say he needed to come back for this or that with multiple uncovered charges. Keep in mind, his teeth are not in poor shape. After the 4th visit they were already adding more services that were claimed to be needed. I would strongly advise anyone looking for dental care be very cautious with this place. We aren't the only ones this has happened to. While I know unforeseen things do come up with dental care, I wouldn't recommend this place. His were not needed. These people need to be reported to the BBB and beyond. That will be next. read more

Found 17 cavities that needed filled, along with a crown. Got a second opinion and there's nothing wrong with my jaw and I have one filling needed and one crown. I have been a patient at Afinia Dental for about a year but after my visit today I will not be going back. While having fillings done the dentist and hygienist had a conversation regarding employees losing hours and making phone calls to drum up business. Then I am told that I need a crown and perhaps a root canal. Not recommending this dental office because I feel that I cannot trust what they tell me. The staff was not professionally dressed either. That does not give a great first impression. Earlier in the day I had tried to change my appointment from today to next Monday and was told they would charge me $50. I've been using Afinia dental since 2015 and have been very pleased with the comfort and attention I have been given . Since Covid I've noticed a decline of personal and noticed new faces every time . On 1/14/2020 when I went in for a cleaning they did an update on my records ( routine ) . So I started to sign documents but I noticed the prices went up for example if you missed your appointment the fee was now $100 instead of $50 , I was told that if you could not make the appointment you needed to notify them 48 hours prior but of course they had a waiver if you got sick . Ok so far so good . The next document was that if You made an appointment with the doctor they wanted collect 50% upfront when you made the appointment so I question them if it was a new policy because I've never paid in advance for services that haven't been rendered. Their reply was that the policy was always like that but some of the staff didn't follow the rules , furthermore I was told that the reason why they do that is to cover the doctor's time from sitting 1 hour with no patient. Honestly I've never set with the doctor for one hour straight , in fact I always had to borrow his time among other patients furthermore now that I'm retired and on a fixed income I'd like to keep my money in my pocket for real emergency instead in the pocket of somebody else that hasn't performed his job yet. I repeat I had never pay in advance before, never late with payment in fact I always had credit in my account from overpayment from the previous visit , that day was $10 credit. So after talking to the receptionist and the manager (found out the manager that works atthe Afinia Eastgate office has worked there for only a year, it seams to me that the choice is clear who to let go when you're loosing customers) I decided to collect all my records and look for somewhere else to go where emphaty and courtesy are applied and loyalty from customers/patients are valued. We are all going through some rough times and I wish we could open our hearts a little bit more instead of letting our ego get in the way. Absolutely the worst! The dental care was ok, but the customer service and billing was absolutely TERRIBLE. I had multiple visits, each time paying in-full my required amount, including deductible. Months after treatment, I received a bill for an additional $125. I was told it was because I owed my deductible (already paid, with receipts!), along with their "upcharge" for white fillings when they said my insurance will only pay for regular ones. Dr. Conover and the entire staff at Afinia Dental Eastgate are truly amazing! I had a dental emergency this weekend, and called on Saturday to try to get an appointment, as my wedding is this coming Saturday. Not only did the staff at Afinia get me an appoinment on Monday, Dr. Conover also came in the following day, a day he was not originally scheduled to work, and completed the dental work that I needed. The more amazing part about my visit, is that Dr. Conover performed two root canals and left me painless, saving my wedding and honeymoon! Coming from a previous AllCare Dental patient, I can't express how truly lucky the Eastgate area is to have such a professional, caring, and courteous dentist office. After paying $1500 for the first part of my husbands treatment, they wouldn't do the procedure due to his high blood pressure. That is fine, we got him on blood pressure medication and got him cleared by his dr. We go to make the next appointment and they refuse to take his case, but promise his money back. That was 4 weeks ago, 3 phone calls ago. They said they couldn't refund us on our card, it had to be a check. They said the check was mailed 12/15. Again, lies. So we had to file a dispute with our bank. This has been going on since 11/22. I find it ironic that they wouldn't even schedule his initial appointment without the money from us, but when it comes time to giving us our refund, they are absolutely dragging their heels. This is not right and I will continue to work with my bank to make sure they pay us the money we are owed. They performed no service and were the ones who offered to refund our full payment. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I had 9 cavities filled here after not being to the dentist for several years. It was the shottiest dental work you can imagine. I went in for 6 bite adjustments due to pain before they finally took an X-ray to discover one of my fillings had to be completely redone. I am left with sensitivity on that entire side of my mouth 7 months later due to so much trauma on the nerves. I have days where I cannot even floss between certain teeth as the fillings are impeding on the gap and preventing any cleaning. I have since consulted another dentist, and he has confirmed the fillings would not be up to his standards. He was even able to get his scraping tool under the lip of one of them, and informed me that this one, too, would likely need to be redone at some point. I am certain that my mouth will never be right again. This place is out to scam you and your insurance company out of hundreds of dollars, and cause unnecessary pain and suffering to their advantage. I had a fantastic dentist before moving here. I had good check-ups and no problems. The dentist here told me I need $2,000 worth of work and my husband needs another $1,000 worth. He also wanted me to wear a device so he could diagnose me with more problems above the $2K. Front desk was rude, too. I will be finding another dentist and avoiding chains from now on. Longer story: My first (and only) visit was as a new patient. I was told new patient visits are 90-120 minutes. no problem. A few weeks after making my appt, it turned out it was not going to work out and called to change the date. I was told they could see me that very day at 4:40 and I had the afternoon free so I agreed. I arrived at 4:35. I filled out the paperwork on their computer and sat at the intake desk at 4:40. The lady rudely told me "she's not sure she can do a cleaning today" Um.... WHAT? I came FOR a cleaning. I would never have said yes to being seen THAT day if I couldn't get a cleaning.... I was so baffled that I was left speechless. But I didn't want to be rude so I didn't make a big fuss. First impressions aren't everything... right? Maybe the hygienist is having a bad day, or is behind schedule? I kept quiet and waited to be seen. I was seen right away. And the hygienist asked me "was there a lot of traffic?" Um.... Hello... I'M NOT LATE. What is it with you people?!?! My appt was at 4:40 - you scheduled it just 5 hours ago... I arrived at 4:35. Seriously, stop it! But I kept all these thoughts to myself. I'm not one to act rude - especially at the beginning of an appt. Fast forward... I got xrays, the hygienist took pics of my teeth (told me I'd see them later, but she never did show them to me)... She cleaned my teeth and pressured me to get the $100 electric toothbrush and special $25 toothpaste. I told her I already have that toothbrush. She was nice enough, not demeaning like some dental hygienists can be. Enter dentist... The dentist had a pleasant demeanor, too - Dr. Andrew. But he told me so many things that are "wrong" with my teeth. He wants to replace EVERY filling (even ones that are two years or less old). He wants to replace my crown which is just 2 years old, too. And he wants me to wear a contraption for a month so he can diagnose what is wrong with my jaw. Um. NOTHING is wrong with my jaw. It doesn't bother me. It doesn't cause problems. And it looks just fine. No dentist has ever said anything before (and I had a great dentist before moving to this area a few months ago). All in all, I left with over $2,000 worth of work that he wants to do to my mouth. And that doesn't include what he will decide to do after I wear his diagnosis thing for a month. He even jokingly said, "look at that, you got diagnosed with something you didn't even know you had" Um. No. I don't have anything. I'm fine. My jaw is fine. Maybe I would have taken the jaw thing more seriously if he hadn't wanted to replace ALL the work in my mouth too (1 crown and half a dozen fillings). And my husband had been in the day before and they pressured him to replace ALL his fillings, too ($1,000 of work). He was ok with that until they told me the same thing. It then became apparent to him that this is a money pit. Oh, and did I mention that $100 toothbrush? They tried to sell it to me AGAIN at checkout. AND they put it on my husband's plan, too. They wanted to sell us TWO?! This place is a money pit. They are very nice (if you're early). Very clean. And very well organized (like a machine). But they don't like you being anything but 15 minutes EARLY and they will try to drain your wallet before you leave. read more

Everyone seemed pleasant enough during the services. After they laid out this huge $3,000 plan of work for the next year, and told me everything is urgent. I left pretty salty, and feeling as they were just trying to take advantage. I did my own asking around and felt, no way could I need the scope of work detailed to me. I just shrugged it off not thinking very much more about it, other than the lingering pain from the poorly done (expensive) filling they gave me. Then I get a phone call from them almost a month later, and that is why I decided to rate them. It was so urgent that I start this care immediately, but a month later is when they decide to follow up. So I told the lady who called, that I wasn't satisfied with the treatment and felt they were just trying to take advantage. Her response was simply "Oooooo-Kay, if that's how you feel." If you don't care for your patients, just do us a favor and don't call us. I stepped out of a meeting to take that call, and all you did was irritate me enough to write a poor review. Now I have an extremely weak filling that feels as though it is going to break or fall out any day, that causes me daily pain. While I am going back to being uneasy about dentists and searching for one that actually cares for patients and doesn't just see dollar signs. read more

However, the condescending attitude about further dental work has made me want to look elsewhere for treatment. I have had work done at all three locations (because I travel all over the city and its great I can schedule where I am at) and find that the staff and doctors treat me with respect. The ladies in the front help to make it affordable for me because I do not have dental insurance. I love it here and would recommend it to anyone!
