This was our first time ever having African food and it was absolutely delicious! Each of us had ordered the fufu with egusi and chose a different protein -- brisket, chicken, and salmon. We all agreed every protein was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the egusi and fufu was very tasty. The service was excellent as well; the owner was very welcoming from start to finish and took the time to explain to us African cuisine first-timers what fufu and egusi was made of, what it tastes like, and how it's prepared. I just can't say enough about the food here at this unpretentious little gem, in the middle of the once bustling Independence Center food court. This is the first time I'd visited this shopping mall in years. The mall itself was quiet, and busy with shoppers. We worked our way down to the food court to our intended destination... The "African Dream Cuisine" restaurant... and oh, where to start‽ We arrived there around 3pm. There were a few customers ahead of us. We had no idea what to expect, except for the previously posted reviews for this place we'd read. They were all positive, so I was excited to see for myself. I'd been wanting to try the food here for literally 2 years. Today, my husband and I celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary; and chose to eat here, since it's something different and special. After purusing the menu board, we settled on the Beef Brisket & Roasted Chicken combo meal with Fufu and Egusi; and the Roasted Chicken, Rice, & Cabbage platter. The meals were accompanied by both their Dream, and Peanut Butter sauces... so delicious. I must say though, the Fufu was THE BEST Fufu we'd ever eaten - BY A MILE!!! The taste and texture were perfect! Even the proteins were cooked perfectly... They were fall apart tender, and super moist. The flavor of the spices they were cooked in was really incredible! Truly, this was the one of the most delicious and delightful meals we'd had in a long time. As a matter of fact, EVERYTHING we'd ordered was not only fresh, but in generous portions. The proprietor, Stella, was gracious and kind... A very sweet person. She was there by herself preparing orders and serving them. When I tell you the woman that owns this place deserves nothing but kind things! She was so nice to talk to! And when I got home with my food... I ate it so fast. All the meat is exceptional! I've never had oxtail before and this was beyond delicious. The chicken has a very smoky flavor and it was all so tender. The rice with dream sauce was also yummy, the spicy dream sauce is HOT obviously too hot for me but my kids loved it. The potatoes were soft and buttery and the plantains were sweet with crispy edges we all really enjoyed this meal and will be ordering again! The peanut butter sauce wasn't our favorite but I'm not a big fan of peanut butter anyway. We all just wanted to try the Fufu but I think we should have gotten something more saucy to enjoy it. read more

If you are looking for authentic African cuisine, this place is IT! I was about halfway through munching before I realized I didn't take a picture of my food,whoops! It was just that good! The food is super flavorful and savory. I got the Egusi with chicken platter and it could not have been any better! I also tried their vanilla cream puffs, and they were amazing! We haven't been to the Independence Center in many years, but took our daughter to a play center close by and wanted to grab something to eat before heading home. We were undecided about what to get, but my husband Googled "best restaurants in Independence" and this place popped up. We ordered the goat platter and the oxtail and egusi with fufu. Ms. Stella was so sweet she even made sure that the sauce wasn't spicy so that my husband and my daughter could enjoy the food with me. I don't give 5 stars very often. The food and service here was definitely worthy of a great review. The egusi stew had a nice smoky flavor to it. The fufu had great texture. The cabbage was cooked, but still had the perfect amount of crunch left. I'm not typically fond of goat meat, but this was cooked and seasoned so beautifully the meat was not gamey at all. I don't know how long the Independence Center will be around, but I'll be following African Dream Cuisine wherever they end up. read more

This is likely the bright spot in a once bustling mall. I love worldly cuisine and saw this place as I was getting a couple of watch batteries swapped. I really wanted the goat but am a sucker for ox tails, takes me back to childhood. These didn't disappoint as they were perfectly seasoned and fork tender...I wanted more. The rice is good, potatoes are too. I really liked the cabbage, great seasonings and cooked crisp-tender. I'll be back for that goat...probably this weekend read more
