    Lamb Tibs

Hidden gem if you must say! I got wind of this mom and pop shop via Yelp in search for new places to try. I'm SO glad I came across this gem, for starters this is a mom and pop establishment, which is a win for me. Very cute and cozy inside, this time around I went with take out. I received a warm welcome and was greeted by everyone in the restaurant. I chose to go with take out this time around, I decided on; 1 SAMBUSA WITH BEEF 10/10 1 SAMBUSA WITH LENTIL 10/10 AWAZE LAMB TIBS 7/10 the flavor of this dish is packed with flavor and was seasoned to perfection. However the lamb was very chewy and not so tender. COLLARD GREEN(RAAFUU) 10/10 seasoned very well, freshness in every bite. RED BEETS 10/10 you must like beets to like this side. Packed with lots of flavor and freshness. ETHIOPIAN RICE 6/10 , I felt like something was missing, it was very bland in my opinion. I highly recommend giving this place a try, I'll definitely be going back especially to try their most popular dish which is the chicken tibs. They also offer combos which I didn't see until after I ordered my food.

Beautiful new restaurant 10 minutes from from the airport. I got Firfir which was rolled injera in a delicious stew. I'm vegan so they made it without butter. It was super delicious. My son ordered scrambled eggs with jalapeno and tomato and seasoned with Ethiopian spices. My husband got chicken stew and loved it. The service was quick and portions generous. We will be back!

Selamta made a great first impression…read more Ethiopian food is one of my absolute favorites in life, and the options are limited in KC. We've got a handful of decent ones, and I'm delighted to add another to the list. Their meat combination was a delicious introduction to their style. We utterly devoured it all. Flavors were great, and I liked the way they incorporated greens and carrots and potatoes to balance the dishes and add new flavor dimensions. Not every place thinks to do that. They also thoughtfully included crumbled cheese for people who want to curb the spice. Service was quick and nice. Place was busy with folks from all kinds of backgrounds - students, families, sports fans watching football, and lots of Amharic being spoken. That's a great sign. I'm excited to return and branch out. There's much more I want to try, and this seems like a fun spot to try it.

As a newer restaurant, they were not prepared to serve a large party (even though they were well…read moreaware ahead of time). There were not enough menus for our party, and it took almost an hour just to get all our (individual) orders. We had to ask questions about the dishes as some had dietary restrictions. The server did not speak enough English to explain the dishes to us as we had hoped. Although the ordering was ill-managed, the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food took much too long to prepare and serve for a lunch group. The dishes were beautifully prepared but way too much for a lunch portion. All of us took food home. I think the vegetarian dishes were the most pleasing, as those with beef dishes had difficulty chewing. The spices on the veggies dishes were wonderful. Afterwards (about 2 hours later) we went to another room for a coffee ceremony. It was lovely to witness and the roasted Ethiopian coffee beans were aromatic. Although the coffee was too strong for many of us, we all were thankful to taste. Everyone here is so welcoming.

We were both not very familiar with African cuisine at allllllll so we asked our young waitress for some help. She said her favorite was the peanut butter soup, so my friend got that, and I got the spicy soup, both with Fufu because we wanted to try that. My soup (it was like a stew) was really good, spicy, flavorful, and the goat meat so sooo tender and delicious. I'm always leary of goat because sometimes it's gamey and this was not! The peanut butter soup had a wonderful savory flavor as well and was so good. The fufu is a side of dough looking thing, where you eat with your fingers and dip it in the soup, is my understanding. It just reminded me of a dumpling. This restaurant was really good, and it felt like a mom and pop type shop. I want to go back and try more menu items

So I see my food review keeps getting deleted on google. I asked for fried rice and got Jollof rice…read moreand 1 plantain. This a $24 dollar plate & this is what I got. I waited over a hour for my food and didn't have time to check it as I was pressed for time and had to get to work. You gone make somebody wait damn near 2 hours for their food at least let the food be correct! I had already asked for a refund to where the front desk girl says your food is coming out now! I should've known how fast she put my things in a bag to tie them up, my order was going to be off!!! If I would've opened it I would've got a refund!!! The egusi was nasty and tasted burnt and had me on the toilet after taking two bites!!! The jollof rice tasted like straight tomatoes, whoever was cooking didn't even try! When you walk inside there is hardly anybody standing in the front or they're always on their phone! This once use to be my favorite spot for African food but now it's time I find a new spot!

This small restaurant in a food court sandwiched between others was a place I've been meaning to…read moretry, but I waited until I had another stop nearby. The indoor mini mall it's inside looks fairly new, with a nice upbeat atmosphere. I wasn't expecting to find authentic African food in Lenexa. African Dream features Nigerian specialties like fufu, and that also looked tempting, but one good meal was my objective. My server Ria was gracious and helpful. She helped me select a meal for takeout, and I had a 20-minute-plus drive to reach home, where I devoured this memorable meal (had at a reasonable price) in less time than it took to drive home. I had the brisket platter with sides (served in a takeout container). The brisket was, in a word, delicious! I'll be back for sure. The cabbage and rice dish sides were nice, too, and they complemented the brisket just fine. I'm glad that I arrived in time for the last small portion of their brisket. It looks like it usually sells out at lunch, but it's Monday and the entire food court wasn't busy. It was tender and smoky, with a light au jus style sauce. Yum. Parking was just okay on the street, and most spots were taken around my near-5 p.m. arrival, but I lucked into a parallel spot very close. My only tip would be if you're a brisket hound like me, park and arrive earlier! I shall return! (5 stars!)

I was very disappointed. I had such high hopes make it spicy!!!!!! we can handle it. The chicken portions were very small also. Meat portion with three sides was $13 plus tip.
