I am extremely disappointed with the administration at this school. My son was involved in a…read moresituation where he felt completely unheard and dismissed by school leadership. Rather than taking the time to listen to all sides fairly, it felt as though assumptions were made without fully considering his perspective. As a parent, it is heartbreaking to watch your child leave a meeting feeling like his voice does not matter. Every student deserves to be treated with respect and given an equal opportunity to be heard. I attended this school years ago, and it was a very different place. Unfortunately, the administration today does not reflect the standards I remember. Student behavior has declined, and the way concerns are handled leaves much to be desired. My son's experience has left me questioning how many other students may feel ignored or unsupported when they need help the most. I hope the school takes steps to ensure that all students are treated fairly and that parents' concerns are taken seriously.

If you're thinking of sending your child to Pershing Middle School in Houston--don't…read more Let me save you time, money, and your child's sanity: this is the worst middle school experience we've ever had, and we only lasted one year. That one year was a masterclass in chaos, incompetence, and disregard for students and parents alike. 1. Administrative Disaster The registration process is your first red flag. Overwhelmed, unorganized, and quick to tell you what "can't be done" simply because they don't want to do it. The administration will smile and lie to your face about policies they clearly haven't read or don't care to follow. And don't bother calling--no one answers the phone. Ever. 2. Revolving Door Leadership Principals change so often it's like speed dating--except each one leaves before making any positive impact. This constant turnover creates instability for students, staff, and parents, and makes it impossible to build trust or consistency. 3. Dangerous Environment for Students The number of fights is alarming. It feels more like a prison yard than a place of learning--especially for Black and Brown students, who seem to be funneled straight into ISS for even the smallest infractions. The so-called "discipline" here looks more like targeted punishment than actual conflict resolution. 4. A Neighborhood School No One in the Neighborhood Uses The surrounding neighborhood is lovely, but take note: the families who live here avoid Pershing like the plague. They send their children to other schools for a reason. 5. Inappropriate Conduct on Campus As a parent, I learned to deliberately avoid the on-campus police officer after repeated inappropriate comments and harassment. That's right--parents, not just students, are subject to unprofessional behavior. 6. The Year That Broke Us Our single year at Pershing was the worst of my child's education--and my parenting life. The stress, the instability, the blatant disregard for student welfare... it's not something I'd wish on any family. If you're reading this as a parent considering Pershing, here's your sign: run. Your child deserves a school that values safety, stability, and education over excuses, punishment, and constant turnover. Do not-- I repeat, DO NOT--send your child to Pershing Middle School.

We have been part of the school for 10 years and have experienced multiple classrooms and grade levels across 3 children who each started in the Young Children's Community (as toddlers). Our eldest is on the verge of entering the Middle School, and it is clear that her experiences at the school thus far, along with the experiences of our other children, have established a deep love of learning, curiosity, self motivation, and innovation. It is such a special place. If you are looking for a place where your kids can both excel academically and also understand the importance of kindness, gratitude, and service, this is the school, and it is without equal.

As a member of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), this school is one of the top. The children learn thorough academics, develop a true love of learning and exploration, and become very independent and responsible. "The Post Oak School is an educational leader both among Houston's top private schools and among the more than 5,000 Montessori schools across the country. Post Oak serves students from age 14 months through 8th grade, and is one of the U.S.' oldest Montessori schools (the oldest in the Southwest and one of only three Houston AMI schools). It has attracted an accomplished team of faculty and staff and built a campus dedicated to learning. The Post Oak School helps shape consistently high achievers."

They truly have my respect, not only as teachers.. but as thinkers, innovators, and leaders in education. The curriculum is challenging and encourages an understanding of the liberal arts and sciences, balanced by the values of forgiveness, love, and understanding deeply rooted in Christian belief systems. Their Scottish Arts program is unbelievable to see and I am constantly amazed at the artistic abilities of the students who have been encouraged over the years by the school. My daughter, who deals with sensory issues that affect her learning, has always been treated with the utmost respect and has been encouraged to embrace new ideas while being challenged by proven methods of teaching that instill an understanding of the world around her while teaching her to effectively communicate those ideas. I am not an alumni and I was only aware of the school through long time friends. But, having faced the challenges of the current public school system with our oldest child, my wife and I came to believe that a private school was our only acceptable option for our youngest child (and any future children). We explored several private schools in Houston and decided on St. Thomas' based on a tour of the school and talking with faculty and others who knew of or had experienced the school. Also, I believe that the tuition is quite reasonable compared with other private schools in Houston that we considered. We intend to keep our 8 year old at St. Thomas' through 12th grade and we plan to send our 3 year old there as well when she reaches school age. I would also encourage any parents considering a private school education to meet with Mr. Cusack and the faculty and see it for yourself. I believe that you will like what you see.

I especially appreciate that The Mays School brings excellent therapists directly onto campus, so my son received consistent help without the stress of driving to multiple appointments. Ms. Jessi's deep knowledge of neurodiversity has been invaluable. She not only helped my son thrive during his time at The Mays School, but also guided us in finding the right next school to continue his growth. The owner is currently doing so to silence me at this very moment. That's why they have nothing but 5 stars. In my opinion, the owner is unstable and encourages a cult like toxic environment. What they don't want you to know is the school is not accredited and is not Montessori. They are not associated with Montessori in any shape or form. They claim to be inspired by Montessori. In my opinion, not a lot of learning happens here, let alone Montessori inspired teaching. To give you an example, my daughter was writing letters in sand at an age where she should have started learning phonetics and started reading. Once I figured out that she wasn't learning anything I quickly started looking for a new preschool. In the meantime my daughter was being spit on daily by another child. I addressed this with the teacher many times with no avail. I told the mother of the child and because of that my child was expelled. Yes, that was my offense. In the time it took me to go get my child (this was the middle of the day when they expelled my 4 year old) they treated her so horrifically that she developed panic attacks. It took months for her to recover mentally. I know of other people who have had similar experiences. The cult like environment is so intense that they bully anyone who leaves the school or writes anything negative about this school. I would not recommend anyone to attend this school.
