This place is so fun! Music and staff are fun! Beautiful tagging and lighting fills the space and provides for a great vibe! They were clean and continually sanitizing. Servers were fantastic. We had chips and queso, quesadillas, the big thumper. But the Eloté..... oh the eloté! It is simply amazing! Being from southern California, I have had real, genuine, from the cart Eloté! This was the best I have ever had. Fresh, just enough seasoning and cilantro. Mmmmm! The peach bourbon punch is fantastic. This is a fantastic little bar and restaurant! No complaints at all. I love their Brussels sprout appetizer! I never thought I'd eat Brussels sprouts but I tried them here and love them! They have various tacos to choose from and I like how they are different than the typical taco. Their chips however are too thick, I didn't care for them. I will definitely go back! read more

I had a good experience at Agave & Rye, overall. I'd go back, and I'd recommend to anyone looking for a relatively unique dining experience. Despite hearing some complaints about the tortilla chips, I can say I enjoyed them. People, that's what homemade tortilla chips should look, feel and taste like. It's crucial for a restaurant which prides itself on its 'epic tacos' to deliver on this front. I believe Agave & Rye excels with its unique offerings, combining interesting ingredients in double-shell tacos. I have a disclaimer though, you probably only need to order one taco if you indulge in chips & salsa/quest... they're big boys. I had great service. I had only a short wait to get seated and the food didn't take too long. I also appreciate the the green/red card at each table, diners flip over to notify servers when they need something. In terms of the atmosphere/decor, I took no significant issues. However, when I think Troy, Ohio, I'm not sure I think loud music and arcade machines. I think they've set up an interesting interior, I like it, but will the residents of this very conservative, elderly county continuously show up? Maybe, maybe not. I am a little pessimistic given what I've read from early reviews. Time will tell. read more

For those of you who love the sticky cauliflower, they have changed the recipe. Gone is the gooey,sticky, flavorful sauce. It has been replaced with a watery liquid that leaves the dish a soggy mess. The Epic Chicken Sandwich was so thin and overcooked that I could barely chew it. Management was kind enough to replace the sandwich with a much better one, but I was really there for the cauliflower. The service was great, as was the Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita. read more

Visited the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and was not busy, a number of open tables. Hostess sat us at a dirty table with like I said, many others to choose. Our Server was very apologetic and somewhat embarrassed. He cleaned table. We also noticed a collection of food crumbs on the black windowsills and all over the floor, and the restrooms were filthy. First and foremost - we had a great experience at Agave & Rye (Troy, OH)! The location is smack dab in Downtown Troy Ohio Square - which is awesome (Except for the limited number of close parking spots - but that's not the restaurant's fault). The reception when entering was great! They did set us in a back room that was sort of an overflow area when there were plenty of seats in the main room (Not a big deal or deal-breaker). They give you a lamented card that's red for not needing assistance and green for wanting assistance - and I found that cool and effective. The manager come out and welcomed us. She let us know they had just launched a new menu and let us know it might delay our order a bit (I was there for a business meeting - so we were really getting our chat on - and didn't really notice a delay). The reason this is a 4-Star Review rather than a 5 can be summed up in two words - the chips. They're too big! It's very difficult to get more than just a corner into the dip - which would mean you'd have one bite of dip and then have 80% of the chip left to eat (Without double-dipping of course). Also - some of the chips were either wet or uncooked in the middle. I know some places are famous for their own bread (rolls/biscuits) and whatnot - and I have no problem with that. The flavor was fine - but again, the chips are just TOO BIG! Now on to the tacos. I only had one - but, it was AWESOME! They're difficult to eat without making a mess - but awesome nonetheless! Nice place and atmosphere, other than that not impressed with food. Had the "Rooster" taco which is chicken, Mac and cheese, and pickles which consisted of a 2" piece of chicken and the rest was stuffed with Mac and cheese and diced pickles which was very bland (Not worth the $7 and change cost of it and doesn't come with a side). Also had 2 appetizers of chips and salsa which they serve on trays, 1 tray the chips had way too much salt but the chips are very big and thick which is different. REPEAT HEALTH DEPARTMENT VIOLATIONS FOR UNSANITARY CONDITIONS! In the time of being open 88 violations and 37 critical violations. Check online it's public record. I've known several people who have worked there who said they had to spray paint over black mold. And we're forced to continue to work while having Covid or they would lose their job for not being there. The owner clearly throws money around to silence people and lord only knows what else to keep it open. I would never trust eating there again. First off, our service was lacking. Sat for 10min before they came to ask for water. Our friends joined us 5 min later and had to ask a food runner for cocktails since the waiter never came back. Food is very overpriced. If you're looking for good Mexican this is not it. Spices and flavors were off. No real character in the food. Drinks were ok but also overpriced. We live in Downtown Dayton and there are a dozen places I'd go to before having to come back here. Could not believe the prices they were charging for mediocre food and drink. I have never paid $10+ for a taco. That's crazy pricing!!! However, I would pay them again in a heartbeat. It seemed half of all the food in the kitchen was put on my epic Alderman taco, and it all tasted amazing! I would estimate one chain restaurant burrito would be equivalent to 1.5-2 epic tacos. And please, get the chips and chunky salsa. In general, tortilla chips are "meh" to me, but theirs are something to remember. And you get a full to-go soup cup of salsa, not some dinky condiment cup. To top it all off, I'm reviewing an Uber Eats order. I can only imagine what the food is like straight from the kitchen. I'm sad I don't live here. I will be back somehow. :) read more

Well our recent first visit ( outside patio) was a very pleasant surprise! Our waiter Kais was awesome. He made great effort to make my husband's bar order was perfect. Me, give me a beer! The menu is a trove of gems of choice re tacos of any theme or taste. I will be back to taste many of the other's that peeked my interest. I finally settled on the Crown Jewel on this first visit. It was absolutely delicious!!! Our waiter continued to be attentive and the manager Brad dropped by twice to check on us. It was one of the most pleasant experiences we have had in a long time. This was our first time in. Found the atmosphere a little overwhelming. And the music was and general noise in the place made it very hard to hear the host and the server. Our server's entire attitude went into the toilet when I ordered a glass of water and my husband ordered an iced tea. It kind of went downhill from there. The food, however, at least mine, was absolutely amazing. The server that took our order, also brought it to the table. She never asked if we needed anything else and never returned to our table to ask if we were enjoying our meal. We were never given silverware and my husband had to go to the bar and ask for some. I wait tables for a living. I've been at the same restaurant for nearly 16 yrs. This was totally unacceptable service! My husband said we wouldn't be visiting again. read more

Great, epic tacos. First time visiting and being from El Paso, TX I have to say that this place was surprisingly good. I started off with an OG margarita and it was perfect because of the lime juice, sugar water and something listed as "secrets" that I'll take over a sweet and sour mix anyday. Then I had the happy hour chips and queso and it was above the bar because the queso wasn't an over processed orange cheese. It was white and seasoned perfectly with robust, giant tortilla chips, enough to share for sure. I had birria street tacos, they come in 3's with slow braised beef, guajillo chiles, Oaxaca cheese, cilantro and onion served with a beef consomme for dipping! Savory and delicious. Finally, the elote....it's another "street food". Grilled corn that is cut from the cob then coated in Cojita cheese, tajin, Serrano aijoli, cilantro and lime. It was so similar to what I'm used to in my border city that I was impressed enough to write this review. Alex was our waiter and he was always on top of things and very informative. The service was great and even though others reviewed thus place as being too loud, we didn't think so. We went on taco Tuesday and did not have to wait to be seated. My family started with the crispy Brussel Sprouts and the Plain Jane taco, the Bees Knees taco and the Rooster taco and nobody had any complaints. I eat here with my sisters and mother whenever I come home to visit. usually we have a good experience. we decided to get lunch on Black Friday while we were shopping in downtown Troy and our experience was nothing short of comical. our waitress was a clueless little thing, she got all of our orders wrong except for mine and when we brought it to her attention, she passed the blame on to the kitchen and offered us nothing. We are not complainers and we don't like to waste food so we ate what was brought to the table. A man who appeared to be mid-level "management" walked by our table and asked how things were and we told him about our orders being wrong. We asked him to make sure our bill reflected what we were served, not what we ordered ( my mother ordered 2 tacos and only got one and my sisters "epic" add-on did not happen). he came back and said he fixed the bill and "comped" our chips, salsa and queso. Our waitress NEVER returned to our table to refill drinks or check on us or cLear our plates. When she finally returned with our checks, they were not corrected. We asked her to get the man with wITh whom we spoke and handed her our plates, which she refused to take , and walked away. the man came back, we told him the bills were not corrected, he disappeared and never returned. we proceeded to wait 15 minutes at our table, watching our waitress talk smack about us to her coworkers, who we could see looking directly at us as she was talking to them. I finally got up and took my sisters bill to the hostess and told her we had been waiting 15 minutes and needed our waitress to tend to our bill so we could get on with our day. the hostess refused to take the bill and walked away. we proceeded to watch our waitress return to the floor 5 more times, bussing empty tables and checking on other customers... completely avoiding us. after about 10 more minutes, a woman who said she was the general manager came to our table and asked what the problem was. I told her everything and what a horrible experience we had and she "comped" our entire bill. we did nothing wrong and were never rude to our waitress and even ate the food she brought us instead of demanding what we ordered. if we had waited 5 minutes longer our bill would have been "comped" by us as I was ready to walk out the door. UNREAL lack of basic decency on the part of our waitress. luckily for this clueless little girl, my sister didn't feel comfortable having her tip reflect the actual job she did and she made $5 despite being a nasty person. I would have left her a shiny penny. our society is in big trouble with this generation of children who have zero skills and zero work ethic and who don't realize that without customers, they have no jobs... no money and therefore no iPhones to access their social media, which is what they seem to be consumed with. read more

This isn't just a quick put together taco place they literally take there time and everything is always fresh no matter the time of day. We have our server that we ask for each time Tasha she literally became our friend we love to chat with her. She always welcomes us with open arms. She gives us new recommendations to try and everything is always the best.
