Got takeout from here. The restaurant is bright and pretty even if the outside of the restaurant was dark. We got a veggie burrito, smothered green chilli chicken burrito and chicken empandas. Food was good. We enjoyed everything we got. I would have liked a little more flavor on the chicken burrito since it seems without the green chilli sauce, it would have been a little plain. However, green chilli sauce was good and made the dish. Price for 4 pieces of empanadas was a little steep but I guess thats inflation :(. Guac that came with empanadas was lacking some zing (lime and onions). Veg burrito was good. Would order again.

The onion rings were excellent--perfectly crisp, fresh, and served in hearty portions. The décor was stylish and really enhanced the overall vibe. The food is tasteful and fresh definitely looking forward in trying different dishes.

Absolutely love Agave! The best Quesabirria tacos and fresh chips! I usually get takeout but their restaurant is really cute and has a great "dia de Los muertos" upbeat vibe. Great service and just amazing food cooked with love and care. It's a gem!

This is a cute little decorated spot off the beaten path. Our waitress was nice and super busy with most of the tables . They are a BYOB . You can bring the liquor and they can make your margaritas on ice . The menu is pretty decent but not overwhelming like some . We ordered chicken and birria tacos , and a burrito . Portions are pretty big but flavor profile just didn't hit the spot for me but tasty enough. We sat at a high top by the counter which wasn't the best spot considering all the customers picking up orders are all up your back so it was a bit annoying. All in all this place was pretty decent .

In the best way possible this place is so girl with the best food ‍ I would give them more stars if I could. The server was so sweet too!!

**just found out they stole their instagram photos from @chefkodak in atlanta.. ** It was okay. Overpriced for basic diner food. We were very hyped by their instagram page and the photos look amazing, but the actual food is nothing like the photos. The birria cheesesteak had slices of yellow american just draped on top, no cheese mixed in at all. Fries were just basic frozen fries. Wings were good. Steak and Shrimp tacos were good but again, nothing special. For $28 a plate, not worth it. There are better places to spend that kind of money for better quality meals. Again, Diner quality.

The current menu is 90% Mexican, so the Italian fusion is missing. Sat in the outside area, and it's covered with many tarps hooked together. Be careful if rain in forecast, as there are gaps, especially in the middle of the area. The plastic black tables had white stains on them. There is a long bench seat against the "window wall" . We had initially been seated against the plastic window wall, and there was the smell of cigarettes from a near area/neighbor. The music was a pop/rap playlist that didn't lend to the dining atmosphere.

Hidden Gem, very cozy and beautifully decorated. The staff was super warm and friendly, especially Tracy, she was a great waitress and very knowledgeable of all entrees and made great recommendations. The food was authentic and seasoned to perfection. The food portions are very large. Burritos and tacos definitely didn't disappoint. Great for a girls night or even date night. Love it and will definitely be back.

Food was wonderful and our waiter was friendly and helpful with picking items off the menu. We ate out back on the patio and it was lovely, until the flies hit, and they hit hard. They were all over the place. Not sure how to keep them away, but it would earn the 5th star.

My wife and I stopped by for dinner last weekend. We've ordered take out from Agave before but we felt we really needed to dine in to judge. Appetizers are not pictured (nachos and empanadas were both excellent.) I really appreciated the nachos were not covered in cheese sauce and sour cream. I love both but too much and the nachos get soggy. My wife ordered the fajita bowl and loved it. Steak was well seasoned, and rice and veggies were cooked perfectly. I had the birria tacos. Absolutely outstanding. The dipping sauce that comes with the tacos is made from the drippings of the birria. It's essentially a Mexican au jus. It's the perfect compliment to the tacos. BYOB. Make sure to make reservations. Seating is limited and dinning room will fill up fast at dinner time.

Food was delicious. Best Birria tacos I've had and the Birria Ramen soup was a 12/10! Our server was also amazingly pleasant and was all around very happy, and had a good presence to her! Me and my gf live an hour away and we'll definitely take a drive back just to have this again! For three entrées, dessert, and two drinks, everything was very affordable! P.S - tres leches cake was immaculate and sensational!

Omg this food? Soooo impressively good. Authentic flavors, moist chicken and steak, very flavorful, adorable decor and great ambiance, and well worth every penny. It's truly hard to find good Mexican food near where I live in Hunterdon County. I took this picture while waiting in the car for my husband to get the food. And I must say the food was packaged with care. This place is a gem. Give it a whirl!

High hopes, poor delivery. Kitchen unable to deliver after 2 hrs, had to wait an hour to get 3 main entrees to go since they were not able to deliver the food with the rest of the order. Sadly they will not be getting my business again. read more

A HIDDEN GEM My family and I were just passing through looking for a good place to eat and this place was perfect! A good atmosphere to compliment the amazing food! went with my family last night for Cinco de Mayo and everything was delicious. They were very busy and the waiter was still so attentive and friendly. The chips they make in house are the best Ive tasted and I had the Paella and it was delicious. We also had the fried calamari which came with two types of sauces that are great. The calamari was perfectly cooked. My daughter had the steak burrito which she loved, my son the chicken sandwich and my husband had the Burria tacos. Really great dinner ! Food was fresh and tasted delicious! 85% of the menu is gluten free ! This place is located in a very quiet area. The ambiance was very colorful and the dining area was split into two areas . The food was excellent. They offer Mexican / Italian fusion dishes. Heard about this restaurant from a neighbor and decided to try it through takeout - and it did not disappoint! Prices are so reasonable for the portions, but really the food is amazing. Ordered the carne asada. Why would you ask how would you like your steak cooked if you're gonna serve it well no matter what. The steak is so thin that's prolly the only way you could cook it unless paying close attention. Both of us got the dish with the same overcooked results. I also don't understand the decor. It's lively and bright which is nice. But, give it a month or two and theirs gonna be dust coating all of the decor which I can't see being easily cleaned. Our first visit to Agave far exceeded our expectations. We only tried the Mexican food but it was outstanding. Homemade, fresh and flavorful. The guacamole was a perfect starter, complete with homemade chips. My entree "Huarache" was a unique handmade blue corn tortilla dish made extra special with the Al pastor marinated pork. My wife was equally impressed with her choice of "Mulita". Portions were large and the service was friendly, efficient & helpful. We will be back to try more things. read more

Does not accomedate advertized food allergies! We chose this spot because of good reviews for gluten free. I'm celiac. I tell restaurants it is a severe gluten allergy because it is the easiet way for them to understand. Our server said most of the food is already gluten free. When I went to order, I reiterated the severe allergy and added my food can't touch gluten at all. The server then said that he would NOT SERVE ME and moved on to try to take orders from the rest of our party. I asked for a manager, the server claimed to be a manager and that a severe allergy is a liability that he didn't feel comfortable serving and still tried to take the rest of the table's orders. I could understand not being able to accomadate me, but they advertise gluten free on the menu and tell people that most things are gluten free. Gluten is one of the top 8 allergens! You cannot advertise safety and then tell them their allergies are too dangerous before ignoring them for the rest of the party. We left. I've never been treated so rudely before. read more

Bright and colorful place in an old historic building. Interesting mix of Mexican and Italian dishes. Service was great and so was the food. Great wings..crispy and juicy. I thought we would give Agave a try tonight. 6:30 and didn't want to eat out so we ordered online and ran over. We were so disappointed that both our burgers were beyond "well" done. I ordered mine medium and my husband's was ordered medium rare. Both came home so overcooked and dry. I called back and was told by the nice young lady that she had no idea how to help me because however I order it is how it's cooked! I said "oh it's not possible that the chef accidentally overcooked them"? "No she said it's done however you order it." Well okay then. We didn't eat there and they didn't deliver so contact was as minimal as the response. I hope it was just a bad night. Maybe they're great for just mexican food but def not burgers. read more

Cute little place, the food was excellent and the service was great. We had Calamari, which was crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. They gave us marinara & a chipotle sauce with it, both were very good. Huarache, my husband enjoyed it. Birria Tacos, they were amazing, full of meat and cheese, very filling, get them! We also tried the guacamole, it was ok, a bit sweet for some reason, not really to my taste but worth a try. We took a piece of Tres Leche home, it was pretty good as well. So excited to discover this wonderful restaurant! We went for lunch and all ordered Mexican food from the Favorites part of the menu; everything was so delicious - the best Mexican food we've had in the area by far. The menu includes lots of choices to please everyone. The service was so friendly and accommodating. Very attentive but not at all hovering, and did not rush us a bit. My coworkers and I went here after work one day, and LOVED IT! Everything from the appetizers to main courses to desserts were delicious. The crispy tacos and shrimp ceviche appetizers are TO DIE FOR. I got the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. One of the best I've had! We ended with churros and they were fried to perfection. The food was delicious; it might be one of the best Mexican places I have visited. It's a nice, decent-sized place with lovely Mexican decorations. I recommend it if you are near Clinton, NJ, and craving good Mexican food. I would return. The service was excellent, too. It was friendly and quick. I enjoyed the good lunch experience there today. There was no private parking lot, but street parking was plentiful.

Service is friendly and efficient. Orders are made at the counter, or, dare you dare, via QR codes located at the table. Parking is limited, and because it's located between two one-way streets, it can be tricky coming in to or leaving. The Sopes at La Taqueria are a must to try. They're heavily ladened with tasty toppings, and I'd order them again in a heartbeat. The chorizo sope was especially good, and had enough chorizo on it to make two Sopes. Be forewarned that you will not have clean hands after eating them. On another visit I tried the fish tacos. Fish tacos at La Taqueria are the chopped/shredded variety rather than the deep fried filet version. The tortillas themselves were heated well, but were nothing special, nor was the flavor of the fish itself anything remarkable. I expected something more interesting from the place. On the flip side, I also tried a Taco de Tripa, asking for it to be cooked crisp (Tripa in Mexico is pork chitterling, not tripe) and it was very, very (feel free to insert more verys) good, and is definitely a taco I'll try again and again. During our most recent visit, we had the Enchiladas de Pollo en Mole, which brought four enchiladas in a deeply flavored mole with rice and beans. The mole was not sweet like so many other moles in other area restaurants, but was instead relying heavily on the flavors of the chiles. It was very tasty, and a nice change from the usual sweet moles. We also had an excellent Huarache de Lengua, a thick, oval tortilla ladened with beef tongue. I have a feeling my wife will be ordering it each time we return. In addition, we ordered a bowl of the Sopa de Panza y Pata, a soup with a spicy broth and loaded with cow's hooves and tripe. It was a meal in itself, and was also served with rice on the side along with some thick corn gorditas. I was torn between four and five stars here, and if the fish tacos hadn't been such a bust, they'd probably have gotten that fifth star. La Taqueria is definitely in the top tier of local Mexican/Guatemalan restaurants, and will be part of our regular rotation going forward.
