Taco Empreso (Located in Edison Plaza Strip Mall) 775 Route 1 South Edison, NJ 08817 Butter Chicken Taco Asada Taco Birria Taco El Pastor Taco When I first entered this halal taquiera located in the Edison Plaza strip mall, I was filled with dismay. I instantly realized how the interior looks identical to Los Tacos No. 1. The Coca-Cola insignia is displayed to the left and right of the restaurant name. The menu is painted on a large wall. Even the employees wear white uniforms and white chef hats. Originally, I was confined this restaurant was going to be a cheap knock-off. Ordering is done through an in-store kiosk. Although I was skeptical using the computer screen, I found it easy to navigate and was able to fulfill my lunch order without requesting any assistance. The meal took a few minutes to arrive, but that was because the servers were freshly making it on the spot. I started to get a good feeling as I witnessed the chefs in action. As soon as I took my first bite, I realized I was mistaken about my initial impression. All tacos are prepared with fresh ingredients with a smoky flavor. The shells are soft and doughy. Juices from the protein slightly compromised the appearance, but the taste is fantastic! There is a salsa bar offering complimentary toppings for your tacos. Limes, pickled onions, and three flavors of salsa are an option. The seating is kind of tight, but it's meant to be eaten in a fast paced atmosphere. Overall, I didn't think I was going to have a great experience, but this location surpassed my expectations by a long shot. This spot is a must visit! From the moment you walk in, the colorful and authentic decor makes you feel like you are in a Latin American or country. I've been here a couple months ago, and it's wild to see how much it has grown in popularity. The last few times we have visited, it has been packed or overflowing with customers. A good sign, if you ask me! The tacos are uniquely curated and not your typical selection. I had a Smashburger taco, because I love ground beef, and also a delicious shrimp taco. Any one you get, it is tasty, fresh, prepared right in front of your eyes, and my best of all- so colorful! There is a salsa/sauce/lime bar, which is constantly refilled and has plenty of to-go cups and boxes. I cannot recommend the Agua de Horchata drink enough. When I see Horchata on a menu, I automatically gravitate towards it. Here, the drink is not too thick or overwhelming in flavor. It is nicely balanced with the cinnamon and milky tastes. If you get the 16 oz, the drink comes in a cute square shaped cup. Love this taco joint and coming by every so often to see what is new on the menu and how well they are doing. There is plenty of parking in the plaza lot. If you are in the area, I highly recommend. Definitely worth a shot!
Placed my order from the kiosk. Had two tacos and a burrito. I found it strange that they charged extra/sepratelty for the consume. The food came out fairly quick and tasted pretty good. However, I think for the small amount of food, the price is on the higher side. When I bought my food the crowd had a college feel to it, but also family friendly.
It's a blessing and a curse that this taco spot is a distance from my home. It's a blessing because I would be a regular customer, if I lived closer. It's a curse because everything is so effing delicious and it's so far from my home! One of my daughters recommended Taco Empreso as she is a regular customer. She even spotted my nephew eating here one evening, who came all the way from Brooklyn lol. So there were three of us, who ordered an assortment of items to share. Let's start with the tacos... We ordered the Baja shrimp, Baja fish, steak, birria, asado chicken and shrimp Ensenada. Every single taco was finger licking with distinct flavors that were sooo sooo good. I could not decide on a favorite. We also shared birria fries, which were AWESOME! If I ever return... you know the rest lol. The meat was juicy, flavorful and melted in my mouth. The marinaded chicken and beef were succulent and the flavors subtly stood out. We also ordered a steak burrito, which was Cali-style with fries instead of rice. The steak was flavored, tender, and crave-able. A popular must have! We added a birria quesadilla, which was also epic. Lastly, the frozen pina coladas! Get it! The food is road trip worthy! Finally, there was a consistent line, but these dudes were so organized. The orders were getting out in a timely manner. It's also worth the wait!!!
The hype of this taco spot had me wanting to come in and see what it all about. The mocktails here are delicious and must try. I got the coconut lemonade and it's the best of both worlds of lemonade with pina colada vibe. My friend got the tropical fizz which was flavorful as well. For tacos we got birria, butter chicken, asada, grilled chicken, and Nashville hot chicken, and el pastor. Think the ones we enjoyed the most collectively was butter chicken, grilled chicken and asada. The sauces have a spice level to them which elevate the tacos. Guac and chips were okay a tad bland for me. The esquite corn was yummy side. It's self service where you order tacos either at register or from screen. When your name is called you pick up the food. The tables are limited. I would definitely go back to try some different tacos and for those delicious mocktails.
4.5 stars. I'm impressed by this little establishment, and I think we've found the best tacos in the area! Taco Empreso serves up an extensive menu of both authentic and fusion flavors of tacos and more. All the sauces, salsas, and spice levels are on point - if you want more heat, definitely grab yourself some of the pickled onions & habanero mix. My spicy loving friends loved it! For me, some personal favorites: birria, fish tacos, loaded fries, and horchata. The fusion items like butter chicken tacos were also fun and tasty. Having said that, the wait for food can be long (20+ min) and the seating area is limited. I actually came on a Friday night and was shocked how busy this restaurant was - there was a constant stream of customers for both dine-in and takeout. It also felt slightly chaotic because there wasn't a numbering system and staff just called out finished orders based on first names, but it was also pretty loud in there so it's not the easiest to catch. Because the space is also narrow, people start waiting/hovering around the dining area, which wasn't the most comfortable. Regardless, food is delicious and I'll be back. I'd definitely consider coming at a quieter time next time though, or ordering takeout in advance!
My family visited for lunch and was quite impressed with the food. I had a grilled chicken bowl - black beans, cilantro lime rice, pico, corn, pickled onions. It comes with two sauces drizzled on top. It's delicious! I love the char and seasoning on the chicken. It's flavorful. Staff is friendly. Parking is shared among other businesses at the plaza and prices are definitely higher than your local chipotle chain but it tastes so much better. You pay for what you get. Definitely will come back to try other items on the menu.
I stopped in this restaurant to get dinner. When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. I walked in and was greeted and I ordered with a nice lady. The place was very busy. I ordered: Tamarind Juice Horchata Jamaica Piña colada Nashville Chicken Quesadilla Surf & turf rice bowl El Pastor Burrito Birria Tacos Baja Shrimp Tacos Asada Prime Steak Tacos Loaded Fries El Chopo with Chicken El Pastor I loved all the drinks! And my favorite dish was the surf and turf bowl! I had a great experience!
This place gets busy, so be aware of the time you go. Me and 3 of my friends ended up getting the family platter. This was definitely more than what we could finish. Maybe if there was 6 of us we could have definitely done it. Every taco was soo good. The platter gave you a way to sample a majority of their tacos at once. They also have a little sauce station. I would definitely come back here.
Tijuana-style tacos?? In New Jersey??? Yeah I was highly skeptical also, but a friend of ours recommended it, so what the hell, we gave it a shot. The menu is absolutely massive -- they have tortas, tacos, loaded fries, burrito bowls, mocktails...the list just keeps going. And while they have traditional taco options like al pastor, carne asada, and birria, they also have some really cool Indian fusion flavors like butter chicken and paneer tikka. There's also a wagyu and Nashville hot chicken taco. So many things to choose from. They also have a salsa bar, which is an absolute must for any taco shop. They're also open super late -- past 2AM IIRC -- which makes sense given the proximity to Rutgers. My husband tried the al pastor and I got the paneer tikka taco. The fact that the meat for the al pastor came from a trompo was a good sign, and it also came with a pineapple slice. My husband gave it a "not bad" 6/10 since the meat was dry, and that's honestly more than he's given any taco place north of San Diego. I was also pleasantly surprised by the paneer tikka. Flour tortilla was solid: lightly browned, still soft, not dry like a commercially-made supermarket tortilla. Came with a healthy amount of mango/pineapple salsa, shredded red cabbage, cilantro, and red onions. I think the paneer could've cooked longer to absorb more curry flavor, but it was otherwise a good taco. 7/10. If you're vegetarian like I am, it's SO rare to find a place that has not just one, but multiple vegetarian options, as well as options that are made with effort and intention (not just beans, rice, shredded lettuce). Not enough seating at all for how many people were packed into this place, so if you see any spot open up, grab it fast!! Honestly, this place was better than any places we've tried in the SF Bay Area. Damn, it pains me to say something good about NJ, but this place gets a thumbs up from me.
Got the meal deal for 2 and it was a lot of food! Loved the shrimp and butter chicken tacos, the Nashville taco felt a bit greasy - the fries were tasty I liked the beef super tender! Their hot sauce is awesome too. My favorite was the bright yellow/orange one - felt like a hot mango habanero kind of sauce! A bit noisy so hard to talk with my friend across the table, and seating is a bit tight as well but the food was good!
Ammmmmazing tacos and they are wood fired and the are sooo good loved it the vibe is so good too it's lively and everything is SO fresh!!! All the sauces are homemade and it's amazing
Hello, Taco Empreso! What a delicious spot! Just landed from CA last week and found this wild taco joint! We ordered 2 al pastor, 1 asada, 1 baja, and 1 paneer tikka taco. The asada was classic and delicious. The al pastor was lacking flavor and really greasy, definitely skip this. The baja with shrimp was so flavorful, I enjoyed the mango salsa and cabbage. There are so many dishes I need to try here, so I'll be back!

We visit here after the BTS concert which was out of our way. I must say! The food was excellent. The customer was amazing. The ambiance was beautiful. They but another if time and effort into making this wonder business. I wish it was larger. Other customers were very rude by hoarding the chairs from other tables placing them at their table while not using them the entire time we were in the restaurant. It was hard to enjoy our food while grown adults were being rude to quiet teenagers because they did not want them to sit. The time was 11:30 pm The food was exceptional. The steak quesadilla was perfectly crisp on the outside, with tender, flavorful meat and melted cheese that made every bite indulgent. It's the kind of dish that reminds you why you love food...simple ingredients elevated with skill and pride. The only downside had nothing to do with the restaurant itself. A group of customers were hoarding chairs and behaving rudely toward teenagers who simply wanted a place to sit. It made it difficult to enjoy our meal while grown adults were pointing, laughing, and creating an uncomfortable environment. After a long day, I wasn't going to allow anyone to make my children feel unwelcome, so I spoke up. Despite that, Taco Empreso delivered an outstanding culinary experience. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all truly impressive -- a 10/10 visit, and absolutely worth the detour. read more

A coworker put me on to this place. In fact what they told me is "this place is where I can get peace of mind. The food will not disappoint you." OMG, they were NOT kidding. I got the the Butter Chicken Rice Bowl. Absolutely DELICIOUS. The butter chicken simply melted away the challenges/stress the day had. I will definitely be going back. read more
Loved the Mexican torta which I got with wagyu (it tasted nothing like real wagyu which I had expected but it was the same price as the carne asada so of course I was gonna go for wagyu lol) It was my first time ever getting the chance to try halal Mexican tacos with proper MEAT (carne asada and el pastor and so on) so I was super excited. It was good but nothing mind blowing really and man tacos are expensive! It adds up fast. I'm still thinking about the pina colada. read more

If you haven't been to Taco Empreso yet, what are you waiting for?! This place is a must visit and great addition to Edison. The service is friendly and welcoming. They are definitely not stingy with the portions and the food actually tastes like what you order. I ordered the smash burger taco, Nashville hot chicken taco, and the Dos Amingos platter (two steak tacos, two shrimp tacos, two butter chicken tacos, plus El Chapo loaded fries). Every single taco delivered exactly what it promised - flavorful and packed perfectly. Now, let's talk drinks... the pina colada, agua de horchata, and the cocoa cloud were giving full on Miami Beach vibes, except it's non-alcoholic. And, it did not disappoint. All three were the perfect pairing for the comfort food goodness. read more

Taco Empreso is now fully in their stride. This is the taco jewel of NJ people. No really, so good. My friend highly recommended their Ensenada Mushroom Taco to me and the way she raved about it I just had to taste for myself. Oh my god, AMAZING. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms, I tolerate them for the most part, but every now and then I have a dish where the cook has just mastered the fungi. The mushroom on this taco was MASTERED. Tender and not at all rubbery, fried to a beautiful golden crust, and so flavorful with the sauces and pico. 10/10 I'm ready to drive there to get another one already! I also got a pina colada on this visit and it's the perfect summer treat. Taco Empreso, I'm impressed! No notes. read more
My brother wanted to try this restaurant, so I decided to go with him to see what the hype was about at this taco shop. Ambience: The store was a little chaotic during the time we went because there were a lot of customers. On top of that, there was a video crew filming at the time. Guac Y Chips: The chips tasted deep fried with a crunch. The guac was fresh as if they had just made it. Elote: The corn on the stick tasted better than we had expected. Carne Asada: This taco was pretty delicious with the beef cooked to perfection. Baja Chicken: This was also delicious, and the chicken was not dry at all. Ensenada: The fish was cooked well without any fishy taste at all when you bite into it. Pina Colada: This drink tasted exactly as the name except they could have wiped the cup a bit as it was sticky. Overall: This place is decent if you want to eat some tacos. However, I do not believe that the tacos are worth $5.00 each for a small taco. It did not live up to the hype that everyone was talking about for this taco restaurant. read more

Second time here and I can say it's one of my favorite businesses! Staff is helpful and works fast with orders. They are the first wood fired taqueria in Jersey which is pretty cool. The ambience is fast past and you can sit and eat, there are a few chairs so I recommend grabbing your seat first and ordering after if super busy. They have so many food options from tacos, tortas, quesadillas and drinks like horchata and lychee. I've had their tacos, fries, tostadas and even bone marrow last time and it was all delicious and fresh. This time I ordered the chicken torta and a lychee drink and it was also yummy. They even have a small bar section if you want extra toppings. You can order with a staff or on their kiosk. There is parking in the plaza they're located in which is perfect. Overall I can't recommend this place enough and will be back for more! read more
The tacos are great! Surprisingly the Nashville hot one was my favorite. In being honest, the food is what earns the stars here. We ordered our food online since there was nowhere inside to sit last time we tried to visit and the same was the case this time. The employees are kind, but the restaurant is disorganized. It's quite small and thus easily crowded, on top of customers needing to wade through other customers to order at the end of the counter. There's no queue for online orders and it's not really clearly marked to know where to go to order Vs pickup. I could have done without shuffling around a congested space waiting for my food. The tacos were super fresh with unique flavors. I highly recommend one of their refreshing beverages to pair with your tacos. Order ahead and plan to likely take your food to go due to limited seating. read more

Tucked away in an unassuming strip mall, Taco Empreso is a bustling establishment that evidently many are familiar with. We walked in randomly after being nearby and found that it was easily the busiest place aside from maybe Shop Rite. Their menu has a large variety of items which can't be found in other taco places. The butter chicken taco was a surprising feature on the menu, very flavorful and enjoyable. Their al pastor taco and steak taco were both very good as well- the meat on the steak in particular was very juicy. The quesadilla is also a good option if you want something other than taco, and is just as satisfying. As others have said, this place is comparable to taco places in CA which is hard to come by in NJ. They are often very busy at night so be prepared to wait for your food, it is well worth it! read more

The Taco Factory blew us away! We tried the Family Size Taco Platter and loved every bite--especially the Baja Shrimp and Butter Chicken tacos. The Nachos with wood-fired chicken were loaded with flavor, and the Elote topped with Cheetos and Takis was spicy, buttery perfection. Freshly made juices (tamarind, lychee, piña colada, passion lime) were super refreshing, and the sauces truly elevated every dish with the perfect kick. Taco Empress is one of the best taco spots in Central NJ. I've been here multiple times, and I always recommend it to anyone looking for great food. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming. During my last visit, the tables and floors were a bit dirty and sticky, and most of the tissue boxes were empty, but it was pretty late at night so that might have been why. I ordered the coliflor taco, the Ensenada taco, the mushroom taco, the asada, the surf and turf, the chicken al pastor, and one more I can't remember. Every taco was flavorful and delicious, and I honestly can't get enough of them. For drinks, we tried the piña colada and the lychee Empress. The piña colada was refreshing, but the lychee drink was a little too sweet for me. Overall, I definitely want to go back and try more of their tacos. read more
Came here again! Last night stopped by and ordered a steak burrito without cheese. I was t sure what to expect, but I was not disappointed. It was packed with flavor and meat - perfect balance between carb, bean, protein, and fresh ingredients. It's not spicy so I used the side red salsa which gave it perfect heat! read more

Went with the family for mother's day! Excellent taste and you can really taste the freshness. We got the fish taco, nashville chicken taco, shrimp taco , el pastor taco and rice bowl, and pina coolata. Everything was very good. Especially loved the birria, rice bowl and shrimp tacos. The fish taco and nashville taco were just ok. Kinda shocked at the prices of birria! $6 for 1 tiny birria! Thats kind of crazy given a normal adult would have to eat 4-6 of those for a meal to be full ! read more

This place is absolutely fire! I don't know where to start. I loved the casual interior and how easily it was to order on the screen. You get to see all the homemade salsas right in front. The food, was absolutely amazing! We had basically gotten every taco possible with the butter chicken fries chips and guac and Cheetos Elotes. You can't go wrong with anything meat option here. But absolute favorite was the Al pastor. The chicken is nice and juicy and the flavor is out of this world. I will definitely be going back here when I am in the area. The staff was super friendly and helping with recommendations as well. And even thought they were busy the food came out I'm a pretty good time. read more
Saw this place come up on Instagram a few times, so had to make the trip. It's in a strip mall, so plenty of parking. It's a small location with a small outdoor seating area, & indoor seating. You can order at the counter or via a kiosk. Staff is friendly & "bubbly" and they have a setup where you can watch as they prep your food (if you want). We had the Burrito (Baja fish)[Not pictured], Birria De Res taco, Butter Chicken taco, Tazones Bowl (Butter chicken), El Mako taco, & El Chapo (Birria)[French Fries]. First time coming here. If you leave a review on google you get free al pastor. They have one bathroom and its unisex. We ordered through a screen. They had sauces laid out. We ordered the dos amigos which is good for 2 people and got the lychee drink it was good. Our fave one was the butter chicken tacos. read more
The moment you walk in it feels like you're transported to Mexico and it was such a wonderful moment. They're in a plaza which is nice until you realize it's ShopRite and it's always packed. The place is a bit small for its clientele I can't wait for them to expand. The staff is accommodating they bring out more chairs if needed. Now let's talk about the food. It was okay, in my opinion it could have had more flavor. Also the birria taco doesn't even come with a side of the consomé it's something you have to order extra. Taco Empreso was a great spot. Saw it on social media so my friends and I wanted to check it out. It was quite busy, so the food took a while, but was definitely worth the wait and price. I got the Nashville Hot Chicken fries to share and the chicken burrito. Both of these were phenomenal, so I would definitely recommend getting them. There is some indoor and outdoor seating, but it can get quite busy so seats can be hard to come by. Otherwise, Taco Empreso was a great place to eat! 5/5 read more

Heard about this restaurant from a food reviewer on YouTube and a close friend of mine that is a teacher at the high school that is down the street...Restaurant is located in the same plaza as Shop Rite Edison and the Monster Mini Golf. The food/menu selections/flavor/freshness of the ingredients are everything that my friend and the YouTuber sang praises about. The tacos aren't your basic ground beef/fish/chicken/steak with the usual toppings your mom would add for Taco Tuesday at home...the menu is creative...Smash Burger Taco...Nashville Hot Chicken Tacos...Butter chicken tacos...yes they have the traditional tacos but they have alot of added flare to the menu which I like and I see why they have gotten a decent amount of attention. I can NOT complain about the food...But as you know food is a large component to an experience but it isnt the only component. That being said...This place needs Jon Taffer's help...badly. The layout of the restaurant and the customer traffic flow is atrocious/chaotic. There isnt an isolated location for ordering or a staff member to take orders. Every order that isnt placed online has to be place via the two touch screens available. Problem with the touch screens is that the order pick up sign/area is also in the same area...so when we went in there is just a herd of people in front of two touch screens. Who is ordering and who is waiting for food isnt really distinguishable. I thought we were next to order but, nope, another patron said it was his turn...With the menu being so expansive with all of these great tacos patrons have alot to scroll thru it takes time...So imagine going to Cheesecake Factory (long menu) and waiting to place your order while the person ahead of you placing their order has to thumb through every item description, and look at the photo, and then look at the sides, and then look at the drinks, and then look at the desserts...and then enter a name and phone number, and then pay...depending on how iPad saavy a person is or isnt they could be placing an order ahead of you and taking anywhere from 5 mins to 15. We personally spent at least 10 mins placing our order. I felt bad but we had never been before so it took some time...Once we were inside and saw the process and the volume of customers and how things were going we decided we were taking everything to go... My other observation...the restaurant is SMALL--shoe box small. Big ambition, small sq footage. Basically a long hallway w/ a griddle top and a pit fire style grill with these touch screens and juice bar...with it being narrow and with the amount of traffic present...having salsas, pickled onions, and limes uncovered and opened where people are walking past alot, generally standing after they placed their order, talking, laughing, coughing, sneezing, children present...I just dont know I like how that feels. So again, with some layout/formatting changes perhaps these items can be in a less trafficked area such as toward the back of the restaurant where they have an aluminum bar top with aluminum bar chairs... Again this was our first time going and the YouTube reviewer DIDN'T mention this but...wait time once you order...my order was placed at 4:23 and food wasnt in hand until 4:49...close to a 30 min wait...for a quick serve restaurant making tacos...what was even more frustrating was people that ordered after me got their food and left before me...i tried to chalk that up to the complexity perhaps of what I ordered? Thinking maybe those folks got simple chicken tacos where we ordered tacos such as the Nashville chicken tacos? But if not...was our order simply being held and not called? I didnt leave a tip cause we werent sitting down to eat and I had to tap-tap-tap my order in, so nothing was tip worthy...do they make non-tippers wait? I dont know either way...just saying all the things going thru my mind while I'm waiting 30 mins...When my number was finally called I asked to speak with the mgr. I was told he left...I had seen maybe 15 mins before someone who appeared to be in supervision or the mgr/owner in the grill area holding a coffee/drink...whether he was there or not and they didnt want to get him...i dont know...I was told that I could speak with the head chef but I mean...what is he going to do? Stop making tacos to talk to me? So I asked if there was anyone else to speak with and that question was ignored and I was asked if I wanted another taco for the long wait...my question was "Will i have to wait for it?" haha...I dont think there was a general understanding that my complaint was about the long wait time...SO I just said "Forget it, I will write a review"...and here we are...So I say all that to say this...If you want these tacos (which are undeniably excellent) order online...Run 2 or 3 errands and your order might be/should be ready when you arrive. As far as dining in...dont. The location is too small for that. Bottom line: Great food that needs a better location. read more
Came here on a Tuesday for taco Tuesdays. This place was packed. The layout of the place was a bit confusing with ordering in the back or on the kiosk. But anyway, I ordered a butter chicken taco, al pastor taco, and the Nashville taco, street corn, l churros, and a drink (dont remember the name). The tacos were just ok, but I can see how people would like them. The corn was cold. My favorite thing was the churros with ice cream. It was BOMB. My bill came to $35. read more
