From the greeting, to the service and the menu options we were pleasantly surprised. For us this was a high value choice. The food was superb, the Spanakopita with it's layers of pastry and fresh spinach was wonderful. The roasted eggplant in the Mesakka was easily my wife's favorite item. For us it is a two hour trip to Flemington but we are looking for a reason to bring family and return to the area just to share this experience. A side note, the server, Summer, did a fantastic job making us feel welcome and part of the family. To top everything off we finished our meal with "Cakes in a Can". The owner's wife, Yara, apparently spends hours each day making these attractive and tasty treats. I had the Raspberry and Pistacio. They are right to be very proud of her efforts. The owner was super friendly and outgoing. He provided lots of communication, and at the end of my time there asked how everything was. I ordered a chicken breast sandwich which came with fries. It was a delicious sandwich served on a fresh Portuguese roll. The accompanying fries were generously portioned and just the perfect amount of crispy. For future visits, I hope to explore deeper into the menu. My one critique on the place - today is a 100 degree day here in Flemington, and the restaurant's dining room was very warm. The food here is to-die for, and is certainly one of the best restaurants in the area. I have friends who visit from out of town who specifically request to go to Blue Fish during their stay! The prices are great for the quality of the food. I always opt for the build-your-own entree. This time, I chose the brisket with a side of the caramelized plantains, but I also often go with the chicken, steak, or salmon with the pesto butter. No matter what you order, you can't go wrong. The staff are very kind and the service is quick. The interior is modern and up-to-date, paralleled by its brick historic vibe exterior, as the Stangl Factory building was once a pottery/ceramic factory. Now, the building is home to Blue Fish Grill, as well as a number of other businesses including an artist-owned gallery, a large pottery studio, a medium, and a yoga and physical therapy studio. Stangl also hosts a weekly artisan farmers' market and bi-monthly live music and art events. It really is a growing creative community. Blue Fish Grill doesn't have a bar, but they do allow BYOB. If you find yourself in the Flemington area, be sure to grab a bite at Blue Fish! It will surely be a meal to remember.
