Tried Zack's Taco for the first time. My husband and daughter really enjoyed the bang bang shrimp, chicken, and pork carnitas tacos--they said the flavors were spot on. I had the three-bean taco, which was a bit bland for my taste. I added a side of mango salsa to help balance out the beans and pickled onions, which improved the flavor. The reason for the 4-star rating is mostly due to the chips--they had a cinnamon flavor I wasn't a fan of. Also, there's no printed menu, just a chalkboard that's a little hard to read, and they only accept cash. So just a heads-up: bring cash if you plan to eat here. read more

We were surprised by how good this taco place was in the Poconos. It is cash only with outdoor seating. A taco was 4-5 dollars which is notably cheaper than a lot of mediocre tacos in NYC. We liked the fish, pork, carne asada and beef tacos. They all had decent protein quantity and fresh toppings. We were surprised it was so cheap-$5 for taco, but it's literally for 1 taco. I thought it'd be the standard 3 tacos per order but whatever, 2 was enough to fill me up anyway. We got breaded shrimp & bang bang shrimp tacos. The breaded shrimp comes "with queso fresco, shredded Napa cabbage, pickled red onion, roasted garlic salsa, & cilantro oil on corn tortilla. Never heard of cilantro oil before. Which species of oil is that? The bang bang shrimp is grilled, which I prefer. Both tacos are good, really good flavor, the sauce spills out with the first bite. It's a mixture of sweet, sour, salty flavors. We also got rainbow chili ($6). The chili contains "bell peppers, beans, smoked jalapeños, roasted corn, braised tomatoes, caramelized onions, garnished with queso fresco & cilantro oil." This is the best chili I've ever had. This might also be the only chili I've bought. I recall making chili once upon a time, didn't turn out anywhere near as good as this. This is chili done right. Like any good chili, this is somewhat spicy, so beware if you can't handle spice. Besides the spice & the bell peppers, it was perfect. A hearty, filling bowl of chili was the perfect way to end the meal. It's piping hot, so be careful. Chili is especially perfect for winter/cold weather. The food was average but not sure I was in love with their braised chicken taco, since it lacked the flavor I was hoping for. I also tried the crispy shrimp taco, which was better. This place is garbage. Someone gave us this place as a recommendation as a great taco spot. First thing first. No bathrooms only porta potties. Second the cashier was the cook as well. She was nice and knowledgeable when we asked questions. We ordered tacos and my son ordered a burrito. The tortillas are not freshly made. She warmed the tacos in the microwave. We decided to get takeout from Zach's Taco Shack with our friends during our trip to the Poconos. I ordered 2 tacos (steak and breaded shrimp) and Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla. The tacos were wrapped with 2 soft shells. I would recommend the breaded shrimp over the steak. The quesadilla was good. It had a good amount of cheese, but I wish there was a little more buffalo chicken piece. A few of my friends ordered a burrito and they were packed. We haven't been back to Tannersville, PA for quite some time now and driving around yesterday there seem to be quite a few new establishments. We stopped by this roadside Zack's Taco Shack which has outdoor seating and porto-potty around the corner. This is a cash only place but they do have ATM machines on premise just in case. My wife ordered 1 mahi taco and 1 buffalo cauliflower taco, both on corn tortilla as requested. It came to be around $5 each and she enjoyed them and felt the ingredients were fresh and vibrant. My son got the rainbow chili which many people raved about. It actually was quite filling and wasn't spicy to the point of burning off your tongue. It had a nice, tempered taste to it. He also got 2 orders of beef & cheese empanadas which he claimed were out of this world. Each empanada is about $5. I got the loaded nachos with steak. While the presentation was not what I'd expected (meaning not melted oozy cheese) and lightly fried nachos, it was very tasty nonetheless. The legend is true. These tacos were magnificent! I've been hearing about this place for years and finally got around to it today. Wtf is in that al pastor marinade because as a foodie, I couldn't pinpoint it and it's sooooo freaking goodt! I got the breaded shrimp taco (THEY do the breading. It's not pre-fab breaded shrimp and the shrimp is super flavorful) & the three bean tacos as well & they were ALL distinct in flavor and ALL so delicious. I HOUSED them! When i first got there & saw the prices, I thought they were high considering I know where to find excellent, cheap mom & pop tacos but my goodness, Zack's was worth it. They were a larger size & they didn't skimp on filing. A definite MUST in the area! The place is not fancy at all. Chalkboard menu. Surfboard stickers. Flags hanging on the ceiling. I felt like I was at my college boyfriend's frat house. But just like that place, it's fun and a feast for your eyes. Had to ring the bell for service. Love that it felt pressure-free. This was so good-- tbh, I'm surprised to have found it in the middle of Pennsylvania... The burrito was humongous-- like a 2lb masterpiece. We got the chicken inside. It was a considerable amount of chicken, along with rice, beans, etc. Delicious. Would recommend you get this too! The chipotle steak taco was very tasty as well... it was a double tortilla and had a nice flavor. I got a pumpkin hot sauce (seasonal, special) on the side which was really good. Love that they had more than the traditional sauce options. Finally, we got a chicken quesadilla... this was also good, however, it's just chicken and cheese so I don't think I would get it again and would opt for something with more to it. I don't understand the good ratings here. These were the worst tacos I've ever had. I got basic tacos, one chicken, one pork. Both were awful. Fullllll of onions, weird spices, drippy, messy anddddd coldddd taco shells, one of which looked like it was molding. My hubby ordered a bowl and got a burrito instead. Cashier was rude about it and mumbled at us. Hubby was like it's fine, already made but not what he wanted and not what they charged us for. His burrito was more brand than anything. I'm absolutely love this place...the tacos are absolutely to die for. Whether you are out on the bike for a ride through the Pocono's or live in the area, you have to stop by and try their Shrimp Boom Boom Tacos. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, and the mango salsa was a perfect accompaniment to the boom boom sauce. If I had to nit pick one thing....I would recommend they throw the corn tortillas on the grill and toast them a little, as they tend to fall apart. The compact menu is on the wall. We chose a variety of tacos between the three of us. At lunch time, two tacos were more than enough for me. We tried the shrimp, pork, and chicken. The shrimp tacos were definitely my favorite. The chicken was okay but it was my least favorite. The tacos came with a ton of toppings including queso, shredded Napa cabbage, pickled red onions, roasted garlic salsa, and smoked cayenne sour cream. Do your self a favor and even if you are not sure, at least try one taco with all of the toppings. It is worth it! The tacos are served in a twin wrapped white corn tortilla. The inside tortilla was crunchy which I really liked. The outside tortilla was soft, which I could have done without. Zack's taco shack is a place you need to stop by to grab some delicious food! We usually stop on our way to the top of camelback mountain. You can easily get your food to go and enjoy it sitting on a park bench overlooking the mountain. We got chips and guacamole. The chips were fresh and well seasoned, the guac tasted great. Zack clearly is passionate about his food. It not all the sauces or dips that make it great, its the ingredients that he uses to bring out the flavors. No skimming in Zack's kitchen. With Zack's help during ordering, we put together an exceptional tasting menu for dinner. Started with a special of the day, fillet tips tacos which I felt was the best of what we ordered. The meat was tender and flavorful. We shared a Bad Ass Burrito with slow braised chicken, Spanish rice pilaf, Tres Bean, shredded Nappa cabbage, pickled red onions, smoked cayenne sour cream, cheddar jack cheese, roasted garlic salsa and cilantro oil bound in a foot wide flour tortilla. Need two hands and a fork to get around and enjoy this bad boy; a fabulous mix of complementary flavor. WOW. For a tasty side, we took Zack's suggest to try the Mexican Noodle Salad- Vermicelli noodles, mixed with green cabbage, red onions, scallions, carrots, red peppers, edamame with citrus dressing. Zack's Taco Shack has the best Mexican food that I've had so far in the Poconos and I can't wait to go back for more! Tonight I tried their slow cooked chicken burrito and it was very tasty. It tasted fresh and flavorful. The burrito is really packed too, you can easily a quarter or half of it and be full. The taco shack has a window where you place your order. I had to wait about 15 minutes for my burrito. In the mean time I killed time at a cool gift shop that's attached to the taco shop, where I killed time. There isn't a lot of seating here. We planned on eating here but it started to rain and they only have outdoor seating. Also they don't have a restroom at their specific building but they have an agreement with the next door restaurant Tony's that allows their patrons to go other there.
