State of Texas

State of Texas

It Texas too long to drive across this state... get it... takes-us.... nm…read more If you think I'm an idiot and my reviews suck, well, it Tex one to know one. Texas is one of the greatest states in the world. It's also one of the better states of the USA. See what I did there too. It Texas too long to get around Texas, but it's an amazing state with so many facets to it, and I guess the main problem is the aggression and the politics, the guns and the polarization (yes, it's a purple state and the two sides do not get along), and the invisibility of the left wing (they're half the population, but they're completely supressed by the rich white ruling class, and almost every office in the state is held by rich white republicans), but there are some great things about it for sure. Not infrastructure. Witness the Houston floods and the Houston power outages. Note that these issues affect the most multicultural city in the country, rather than the whole state. All of the myths about Texas are based on prejudice and misjudgment. The funny thing is that Texans are often accused of being prejudiced, and yet such an accusation is, itself, prejudiced. The truth is, half of Texas is more liberal-minded: just look at any election results and then factor in all of the people that can't vote, feel their vote means nothing, or are afraid to vote. Half of Texas is not even white. Whites will be less than 50% of this state in just a few short years. It's one of the most Latin states there is - it recently belonged to Mexico - and also extremely culturally diverse, particularly in Houston, which gives any city in the world a run for its money in terms of cultural diversity. Texas has everything: deserts out west, rugged border land in extreme heat along the Rio Grande, and then endless plains and farmland up north, as well as the swamplands of the bayous out East. It's a nation unto itself, really. The tone and attitude and government is set very much by the extreme conservatives, indeed. But that does not reflect the people of this state. It is only half the story. As a musician, something like 7 of the 10 most successful concerts I've ever performed, were in Texas. Special mentions to the cities of Fort Worth, Longview, San Antonio, Houston, Corpus Christi, Harlingen, El Paso, Amarillo, San Angelo and Midland for being insanely good crowds. I've seen more of Texas than a lot of Texans have. I'm proud of that. And I love this state. Some of the great little quirks they have are excellent, extensive highway systems that include very high speed limits even for roads that are not interstates. On the other hand they give out a *lot* of tickets to speeders, especially with non-Texas plates. Also they have the "turnaround lane" at every highway exit, if you take the lane on the far left, it allows you to U-turn. A lot of the businesses in Texas are built along the interstate highways. It's pretty interesting. San Antonio is one of the most beautiful cities there is, and the Riverwalk is romanticism itself. Austin is "weird" and proud of it. The hipster capital of the entire Southern USA, for sure. Houston is my favourite city in the state because of its amazing food and diversity. Dallas is a Texas metropolis, but its neighbour Fort Worth is a real cowboy town. El Paso is basically Mexico, and it's awesome. Corpus is one of the most gorgeous beach towns you'll ever visit. And the RGV, well that's a far-flung amazing area that reminds me of Mexico. East Texas has been cruel to me at times. The Beaumont area is scarily polluted. My daughter and I were just discussing how we should go and look at some mattresses. So we stopped…read moreby this particular Ashley's. I'm glad we did. EJ greeted us warmly and professionally. After showing him what we were potentially looking for, he knew exactly what and where to go. We tested out similar mattresses (the one we wanted was not in stock). But then, someone else walked up and said: it up and ready. We tested out the latest mattress for him. It was a truly amazing experience. Furthermore, EJ answered every single question that we had and took time to explain everything. We ended up chatting and laughing like old friends. He was very genuine and knowledgeable. The prices and quality of each mattress that we tested out and inquired about was excellent. But then came a sweet sale for the particular mattress we decided to purchase. Omg! The mattress was awesome. Then we had to "put out a fire" but it was so smooth and even better than we expected! Clone EJ!!! No wonder he's a Sleep Doctor! Thank you for a great mattress and awesome customer service!
