Our family likes to check out Ollie's. It's fun to hunt for great finds. Another reviewer mentioned the exterior looking like a daycare and it made me laugh because we thought the outside looked... colorful... as well upon pulling up. The value at Ollie's is great. We didn't have a ton of time to shop but we nabbed an A&M garden flag for $6.99 and a big bag of Brownie Brittle for $5.99. (Now I will note that we have been "burned" by food at Ollie's in the past -not this particular location- when we bought some mint patties which were infested with bugs. So yes we are "nervous" buying food here but I think that if they are well packaged, that shouldn't normally be a problem.) Now for the service. Wow. Aimee was our cashier and was FABULOUS. She was so friendly and helpful. She got us signed up for Ollie's rewards and explained everything so thoroughly. I honestly don't know why we didn't sign up before. It's not like we shop here much but the points don't expire so we should have done it sooner. Thankfully this wonderful employee was able to get us signed up. I love coming in this store. ESPECIALLY when I see Nora working. Not only is she so kind but she has great customer service and it just makes the experience so much better. The store is always the same, clean and for the most part organized. You never know what's going to be in there when you shop, it's an amazing surprise. I found out about Ollie's last month and I'm kind of mad there isn't one where I live! I was at a nearby business taking care of things for my family and my husband was killing time here, waiting for me to finish. When he picked me up, he was raving about how cool this place was and how he saw $15 king size sheets and bought a multi pack of pocket tissue packs for $1.15. I was really surprised to hear such excitement about a business I hadn't even heard of before. Then a few days later my sister was also singing their praises. I had a few separate lists of things I needed to take care. Things I needed duplicates of to keep locally, some purchases my family needed and a handful of things we needed back home. So armed with this new information, I stopped by on our next trip. Wow- this place is huge! This isn't the kind of discount store where they have regular inventory they order. They carry things that didn't sell at other businesses, so they don't even know what they will have until it arrives. I'm actually pretty surprised they were able to keep it as organized as they did. Of all the lists I had, I found about half the items here. I'm definitely glad I came here before venturing to other stores, because I know I would've spent way more, and in several instances probably would have settled for something different. Their business model also means that you are getting discounts off the original prices, so you may see the same type of product range from very cheap to an average amount, but from a more expensive brand. If you are loyal to certain brands you may not find them here on one visit and then 2 weeks later they have a surplus, you have to physically go to the store to see what they have. When you enter the store, the baskets are in a nook to the left and the registers are to your right, between the entrance and exit. You are starting on the left hand side of the store where there is a big section of books. I noticed a pretty large area of Christian literature. I saw journals for $2.99! Along the wall was large selection for children including workbooks and puzzles! Great place to get gifts for growing minds! From there it went into food products and then into cleaning supplies. I saw some food products and flavors I was unfamiliar with, some seasonal items, as well as regular snacks. The packages of peanut butter crackers were less than $1. The toiletries were a small selection on both of my visits, with lots of shampoos, lotions and brushes, but missing other items I was looking for. I saw baby wipes with the snap lid for $0.99 though! In the back left corner there was clothing and shoes. On that particular visit I only saw men's clothing and scrubs, nothing for women or children, but I understand the inventory will vary. I was impressed with all the slippers I saw ranging from $3.99 to $8.99! The back wall was unexpected and I spent the least amount of time there, but it was all sorts of flooring material and rugs. That wrapped to the right wall and went into mattresses. From there I saw some yard equipment, kitchenware, and coming back to the front on the right side was a huge variety of towels, sheets and comforter sets. I think the towels and bedding was their largest inventory. The middle sections were more miscellaneous. I saw dog beds for $12.99, outdoor lights under $3, a dashcam for $20 and a storage bin with folding lid for $10. There were also toys in that section. There were some things that could've been improved. On all 3 trips different employees were working, but each time we were greeted with the most unenthusiastic "Welcome to Ollie's" and zero eye contact. The first day I visited I had water drip on me from the ceiling. When I looked up I saw a trash can balancing on the end cap to catch it, but it definitely didn't and seemed kind of dangerous. They have this god-awful speaker system when they call for someone that has this painful high pitched screeching. The first time we visited they used it half a dozen times and it was migraine inducing, it actually chased me out of there early. Also, it's a small thing, but they have a separate entrance and exit, so it's hard to get a reasonable parking space to keep you out of the elements. Regardless of where you park, you can't escape the rain. The cart return is on the entrance side. However, on my second trip I asked for help finding a TwinXL sheet set. The associate that was called to help me (I wish I got her name) was very helpful and knowledgeable. We found what I needed and she told me more about their system. That was a big plus! If you enjoy thrifting, come here, you can treasure hunt and find some really cool deals and unexpected products! If you prefer a one stop shop or need to know the inventory for an instant purchase of a particular brand, maybe not a great fit, but still a neat store to visit. This store surprised me in a good way. I really don't know what's happening with the bright daycare branding all over the outside, because once you step inside its a huge shopping store that I might say is a mix between Walmart and Home Depot. There's plenty of great deals which are hard to ignore, and some stuff I haven't even been able to find like the particular deodorant, and here it's only $3 whereas at Target it would be close to $5. So things like that really add up to make a difference. We also found an awesome cast iron 20 inch skillet for $20 which is really cheap. We got a membership which can save money in the long run, and points don't expire until the 1st of every year. We will definitely be back but not until we get paid again. This place took a lot of our money already! read more
