Try for the position that faces the water with double door windows that when unlatched create a wonderful open-air experience. Breakfast is well put together and afterward a nice walk to the water down the hundred or so steps out the front will burn off 10-15 calories. Lolzsies! This area is amazing and home to the hotel's private cove and beach. Even more enjoyable is getting out and about. A stroll to the right out the front takes you to Portofino marina. A couple mile stroll to the left (yes, it's mostly safe to walk on the road) takes you past amazing homes built in to the rock faces along the road. If you walk far enough, you'll reach Santa Margherita Ligure - much more populated but a joy and quite active when the quieter Portofino has you yearning for a city of a few thousand. :) Can't recommend Domina Home Piccolo or Portofino enough.

You get a menu the night before to choose from and can include eggs, meats, cheeses, pastries, you name it. We over ordered our first morning and then cut back on our subsequent orders. See photos that are attached. In the hot afternoon, reading in the garden and sipping their homemade limencello was perfect. We also got to meet and mingle with a few other fellow travelers during this time. We had an issue with our return flight and needed to use an actual laptop instead of our phones to try to fix it. The owner brought us into his home and gave us his home computer to use for as long as we wanted. This was unexpected but very appreciated.

The breakfast buffet was set on the main balcony with an option to eat indoors. (The lemon tart was my favorite) Matteo made it so easy for us to purchase a discounted Cinque Terre card that included the trains & a reservation for Via dell'Amore. He was very helpful about the ferry schedule - it is a short walk to catch the ferry. Ask about Restaurant recommendations - (Galin was our favorite). Everyone is so kind & helpful with such great service - even filling your water bottles with ice & water for your hikes, towels for the beach, and quick, reasonable laundry service. And don't miss Carla's fantastic Pesto Cooking Class! It was such fun & so delicious to eat after we made it. We even got the recipes. Make sure to reserve your spot. While the hotel is up a small, steep hill, we were able to walk up pulling our wheeled carryon luggage without a problem. The hotel will arrange a taxis for you from the train station if needed. They also have car parking, which is rare. Once at the hotel, you can walk through the lovely lemon grove down some steps arriving right on the main street of Old Town. The best of both - scenic quiet hillside, yet still in town. There is a small beach in Old Town and also just a 10 -15 minute walk to New Town beaches. Easy walk to the train station and the trails. The hospitality and location are the best you will experience, well worth the price. We stayed 4 glorious nights & I hated to leave. I feel Carla & Matteo are our dear friends now. Hotel Villa Steno could not have been more perfect for a stay in the Cinque Terre. Beautifully located up the hill from the port of Monterosso, the entire hotel has a new and fresh feeling, with comfortable rooms, fantastic outdoor spaces with views of the sea, and one of the best breakfast buffets we had in Italy. The owners (Carla and Matteo) were incredibly friendly and helpful, providing information on taking the ferry to the other local towns and walking/hiking between them. We took their cooking class, hosted by the owners, and our group collectively made everything from homemade pesto and gnocchi to local fish to tiramisu (HIGHLY recommend doing this, they were sold out but allowed us to join last minute, truly fantastic). Their laundry service was a great option to minimize packing, and the owners went out of their way to be helpful for anything needed. Part of a Rick Steves' group were staying there, which only enforced just how great this place is. We couldn't have been happier with the entire experience and highly recommend this hotel.

Attention to detail is unparalleled among local hotels and the Splendido is in a league by itself. However, the biggest highlight of the hotel for us was definitely the breakfast. Breakfast was included with the hotel reservation. Normally it's served on their rooftop balcony where all the lemon trees grow, but due to the weather, we dined indoors, which was just as lovely and more comfortable. Highly recommend Eraldo's crepes with their lemon jam sauce. Three of us ordered omelettes and each omelette ended up being garnished differently. It felt like a home-cooked meal. You could see the staff mixing the batter at the front. Their smoothies also used real fruit, and they had a unique lemon smoothie worth trying! I was surprised how it was more sweet than sour. Then there was the yogurt with lemon curd, the freshly-baked focaccia, croissants...I could go on and on. It was definitely THE BEST BREAKFAST we had during our trip to Italy. After we checked out, the hotel staff allowed us to leave our luggage while we continued to explore more of Cinque Terre, and when we officially checked out, they gave us a complimentary heart-shaped fridge magnet featuring Monterosso. The hotel has five floors of uniquely styled rooms with varying layouts, furniture, and views. We had an L (ish) shaped room on the second floor that looked out on the "street" (more like a cobblestone path) with two separate terraces that we could walk out and sit on. Views of the water are very hard to come by in this part of town, but we were able across some rooftops and up into the mountains. Sitting on the balcony all we could hear were footsteps, animals, the wind, and a constant stream of water heading towards the ocean. No cars fit up anywhere near here, so we didn't hear a single engine from our room. The bed was comfortable and warm, and nice and big. Just FYI, the king size bed is actually two not-so-king mattresses next to one another, so movement during the night could create a bit of a gap in the middle. The shower was amazing, larger than I thought it would ever be for a place like this and the rainfall shower head and water pressure were the best. The free breakfast was nice and simple. Coffee, juice, tea, pastries/bread, as well as omelettes and pancakes made to order. They offered a mid-afternoon snack, and a room here gets you into a free pesto tasting that happens every day from 2pm-3pm just down the street. They have free WiFi, which happened to be much faster (11.12/1.89) than the WiFi at our previous hotel in Rome, and enabled us to stream 1080p Netflix at night without issue. The staff here was extremely nice, and provided us with excellent recommendations on food, drinks, and things to check out while we were in town. I would definitely recommend this place for a stay in Monterosso, especially when it gets warmer and you can leave the windows open 100% of the time.

The staff are really lively (and very nice) and the hotel is quite well positioned to get to anywhere in Levanto and only a short 7-8 minute walk to the head of the hiking trail to get to Monterosso and the rest of the cinque Terrà ) though I personally recommended the train as it's a 3 hour hike one way!!! The Oasi is actually on a quiet sidestreet but there's an alley that will feed you right onto one of the main thoroughfares in Levanto. We loved the open patios that each room opened up onto ( ground floor) they were great to sit a people watch or party with your neighbors. If you need to be shit in they ubiquitous Italian shutters will keep you safe and dark for sure. They have a great breakfast where you can even custom order dishes and in the room fridge there is even private hotel label beer!! It's also available at the desk/bar and it's really good!!! Bottom line is whenever I'm in Levanto I'm staying at the Oasi!!

The hotel is located farther into Monterosso and up a bit of a climb - they can reserve a taxi for you which picks you up from the train station if you do not wish to lug your luggage up the entire way. There are only 2-3 taxis in Monterosso (costs 15 euros each way). Wait to buy your Cinque Terre pass and Via Dell'Amore ticket - they can help you purchase what you need here for up to half off! We also did the pasta, pesto, and tiramisu class here which was a lot of fun! Would definitely recommend it. It is 120 euros per person and has to be paid in cash - there are several ATMs nearby. We were here for the first day of the Lemon Festival (mid-May) so all the shops had lemon themed displays up!

The rooms are very comfortable and have all the amenities you need including a terrace with a sea-view. The owners, Matteo and Carla, as well as the entire staff, are the best I have ever experienced. They are all kind and welcoming. They anticipated our needs by giving us information about the trains and hiking among villages in Cinque Terra. My brother in law wasn't feeling well and stayed at the hotel the first day. Carla called a doctor and also checked on him throughout the day. We all took a cooking class with Carla and it was fabulous. We made tiramisu, pasta, pesto and branzino. She was so patient with our lack of skills and made it fun. We all felt we might be able to do these recipes at home. We ate the delicious meal on an upper terrace with an even more amazing view. We were in Italy for two weeks and this was my favorite hotel. THE BEST!
