You gotta come to fresh market on Thursdays for the $5 bistro meals!!! (Beware they do sell out of…read moresome items.) They also have a hot plate meal where you can get a rotisserie chicken, two sides, and 6 rolls - feed 4-6 people. (Perfect amount for 3 people sized family in my opinion.). Depends on the portion sizes your family eats. Either way, great last minute meal ideas after a long day of work. Or for your lunch break! The workers are all really polite here, but the checkout line is not fast so make sure to get a basket or cart to make waiting in line easier. It is always clean in here, and they always have lots of fresh produce. Plus a convenient parking lot.

The staff, especially at checkout, always seem to be friendly and upbeat, which is nice. The pre-prepared foods, snacks, drink choices, bakery and deli are typically better than most, sometimes better than the larger Whole Foods on Magazine St. here. And, they have an amazing floral section at the back entrance. There's a convenient parking lot that wraps around the back and downtown side of the building, but the spaces can be tight, especially with a SUV size vehicle. This time I grabbed some coffee, bread, brownies, and wine. Unfortunately, I found many of the aisles and sections not stocked very well. The bakery section had very little product as did several other places. Just empty bins and shelves. Hmmmm? It is the beginning of Mardi Gras season so plenty of King Cake and specialty vodka. Nonetheless, I do like this store. Fun fact- this used to be the Bultman Funeral Home, in a classic building on the corner of St. Charles and Louisiana Streets. Yes, indeed, a mortuary as well.

I first learned about this great service because they are partnered with Crescent City Farmer's Market to bring boxes from their purveyors. I had a box delivered a couple of Fridays ago. I knew it would be on a Friday (ordered on Tuesday, I think) and they called me midmorning and told me when to expect the box. Then the delivery person called and said they would be at my house in a few. The box was left at my front door and was chock full of amazing fruits and vegetables and even some backed goods. This week I'm going with the combo box which will have both fruit and veggies. If the box you want says sold out or not available. Then try again next week, they only take a specific number of orders per delivery day for their boxes. When we're not in a pandemic, they deliver to community partners and that's where you pick up. This helps get fresh food to areas without grocery stores and can help get discounts via bulk buying. I'm so grateful for this service right now!

This location offers plenty of parking, a relaxed neighborhood vibe, and is a solid location to shop. Even though the area is a still a city neighborhood, the actual Rouses feels like a suburban one-stop shop with that spacious layout, full service amenities (shoutout pharmacy and floral), and bustling staff. The latter hasn't been terribly accommodating, but finding things in the store sometimes is as simple as downloading their app. While I find the produce to be perfectly adequate, I am appreciative that Rouses carries a lot of Louisiana brands. Bathroom are relatively clean, and the wider aisles, spacious parking accommodations are very appreciated. It is a far cry from the tight spaces I've seen other locations or the scaled / stripped down amenities.

You still need to hit up Whole Foods or the food co-op for the specialty stuff). Produce is still good, improved organics selection. But what I really come for here and this is the only supermarket that has it as far as I know: Brocato's Italian Ice! I'm addicted. This Rouses has a good selection of flavors stocked, most important being chocolate and lemon. I hear rumors of a seasonal peach flavor but I've yet to find it. They also now have a Starbucks, as all of them do I believe, with seating and everything.

At some of the smaller ones, there aren't really many vegetables, but here there was at least a decent selection, as well as many specialty prepared food items. Despite the fact that there was good variety, I must admit I did buy things from vendors I knew from the other markets; the pricey vegan Thai place that was once at the Ochsner market, the veggi co-op whose flavored tofu I've usually bought at Mid-City, and the cheap vegetable tamales I get from the Warehouse District location. If I'd have known the selection was going to be good, I would have bought less food over the weekend. Still, having them all in one place was nice. The location is easy enough to drive to but not terribly close to the streetcar. There wasn't really a ton of places to sit down and eat the Thai salad I bought, so I ended up leaving with it. The vegetable selection still wasn't perfect (notably, no peppers; the hot pepper vendor I see downtown wasn't at this one). And obviously, Tuesday morning is not a good time for a lot of people. But if I can find the time, I'd come back.
