Just as Texas has HEB, Louisiana has Rouses. This location in Mid-City acts as a neighborhood anchor, which offer is a vastly different experience than the other locations I've seen which seemed to be more compact or urbanized versions of the chain. This location offers plenty of parking, a relaxed neighborhood vibe, and is a solid location to shop. Even though the area is a still a city neighborhood, the actual Rouses feels like a suburban one-stop shop with that spacious layout, full service amenities (shoutout pharmacy and floral), and bustling staff. The latter hasn't been terribly accommodating, but finding things in the store sometimes is as simple as downloading their app. While I find the produce to be perfectly adequate, I am appreciative that Rouses carries a lot of Louisiana brands. Bathroom are relatively clean, and the wider aisles, spacious parking accommodations are very appreciated. It is a far cry from the tight spaces I've seen other locations or the scaled / stripped down amenities. read more

Hello again, Rouses. It's been over 12 years since my review and time for a little update. A solid supermarket, with improved plant-based options like milks, frozen items and cheeses/spreads (all commercial. You still need to hit up Whole Foods or the food co-op for the specialty stuff). Produce is still good, improved organics selection. But what I really come for here and this is the only supermarket that has it as far as I know: Brocato's Italian Ice! I'm addicted. This Rouses has a good selection of flavors stocked, most important being chocolate and lemon. I hear rumors of a seasonal peach flavor but I've yet to find it. They also now have a Starbucks, as all of them do I believe, with seating and everything. read more

We got some cooked shrimp and crawfish, potatoes, and, corn! Yeah, that's right. I made my own crab boil in my hotel room. I didn't spend half the cost, but I got all of the goodies from Rouses grocery market. Rouses have several items that you may not find in your regular Joe blow store and the items are Tremendous I would highly recommend going there. Trust me and I will be back! Rouses Market is the place to go when you are in the French Quarter and you need food, munchies, etc. This place has a bit of everything. You can get alcohol here. You can get groceries here. Last night in New Orleans and we wanted some crawfish. When reviewing another restaurant that had crawfish for $12/lb, a reviewer mentioned you can get them (cooked and ready to eat) at Roushes for $4/lb. I walked down, got 6 lbs for $2.59/lb. Ah, the mother of all Rouse's. This is definitely one of my favorite markets in the city; I only wish it were closer. They have everything. Excellent produce and bulk section, lots and lots of liquor.... there's even a bomb sno-ball place in the far right corner. The sushi is delicious and they sometimes sample it. The real star, however? Their bakery. They always have a mouthwatering selection of desserts in the case, so good you'd think they came from some boutique bakery that charges far higher prices. They over charged me for my crawfish and we had a couple of their prepared items just out of curiosity.. we didn't feed it to the cat for obvious reasons.. There is no excuse for the fish sandwich when you can get a popeyes flounder sandwich for $1 more, they tell you not to expect cheese rather than just forgetting to put it on.. I mean really? NO SALES FLYERS! ~ Rouses Market, please have sales flyers/ads. I shop were the sales are. When you do not have a sales flyer I do not shop there. I went by the Belle Chasse store in Terrytown about noon on Wednesday 18NOV20 & the woman behind the customer service desk said that you were already out of sales flyers. She said that I should just walk up & down the isles. She was being a jerk. I left & went to Winn Dixie. Rouses no longer puts the flyers in the Gretna pullout section of the newspaper. Since I live near the Bell Chasse store I normally go by on Wednesday just to pick up a copy of the new sales flyers to take home & determine the weeks meals. I write all over the flyers as to what I need. When Rouses doesn't don't have the sales flyers I can not do that & shop elsewhere. Please have sales flyers available. read more

As the name implies, Rouses Mid City Snowballs is located inside the Rouses supermarket at 400 N. Carrollton Avenue in Mid City. The only reason we stopped here is beacuse we happened to be in Rouses for a diaper run and saw the stand. My wife, the snowball "freak" tends to gravitate towrds her local favorite snowball stands. However, the sign out front stating that they served frozen custard caught her eye as we left the store. (She hasn't had a really good frozen custard since we visited Ted Drewe's in Saint Louis, MO.....but I digress). As we walked up to the window, we saw the sign stating that the window stops service at 7:00 PM, but the stand remains open from the inside until 9:00 PM. Oh well, it was 7:30 PM, so we walked back inside and saw that not only do they serve snowballs, but also espresso, frozen custard, coffee, popcorn and nachos. We ordered a frozen custard but were informed that they stop serving frozen custard at 7:30 PM so they can clean the machine. I get that the machines must be cleaned, but it's a little ridiculous that they need to start cleaning it 90 minutes before they close. Now, slightly perturbed, my wife orders a Dreamcicle snowball. If you are in a dire pinch for a snowball, then this place will suffice; but just barely. The ice was very coarse and was more like shaved ice rather than a velvety smooth snowball such as you'd get at Hansen's, Plum Street or NOLA Snow. The syrup was overly sweet, even for me who just happened to have a big taste so I could write this review. Instead of being a refreshing ice cold sweet treat, it was heavy & creamy super sweet concoction. Unless I find myself at Rouses again, I would not go out of my way to get a snowball here, as there are far too many superior places to go. read more

Lets me start off with that I just moved to New Orleans in the last month. My car made it on a trailer safely with no new dents or scratches. It didn't last 20 minutes in the parking lot. A large cart with children's "police" labeling was left after banging my car and leaving a fairly large dent on the drivers door. Two, yes two, employees saw it happen when I asked them. This is my local neighborhood Rouse's! I try to support local and besides Canseco's this is the only grocery store close by in Mid-City! Love their fresh produce, their associates are very helpful (one night a cute stocker helped me find all my ingredients for chili and it turned out fantastic in the slow cooker!) and some of my students work here which is funny. New Orleans is so small you can't hide! :) The food making folks are super friendly and I have ordered catered sandwiches from there and they are delicious! They had my order ready on time and were gery professional. I miss my Tchoupitoulas Rouse's but like the newly renovated one in Mid-City. It's home now! I like the salad bar (usually make salads for my weekly lunches plus a protein) but wish it stayed open beyond 8pm (sometimes I miss the cut off Augh!). I also like their wine selection and it me convenient to have refrigerated beverages when I need to pop in to grab drinks for a party (can you tell I don't usually cook! My go to is usually chips, queso, or pita chips and hummus, plus alcohol according to my host's tastes). I also like their organic and natural food section. The Amy's frozen food is yummy! Especially the Indian food! Usually I try to run past the pastries because it's deadly! Love the carbs but they don't love me! Hehe... I like that they carry my Silk Almond vanilla and dark chocolate (lactose intolerant) too. I even bought a Barbie toy for like $10 for my niece's birthday next month! I stopped in for what I thought would be a quick visit on Friday night. Wow. I should have stuck to my regular store. This was only my 2nd visit to this location. The aisles are tight. Be prepared to say excuse me to other shoppers every few minutes. The aisles that aren't tight? Piled high with stock in the middle of the space so that you still have to run an obstacle course. I found what I needed and then proceeded to check out and every line was LONG. Ok so there was an after-work rush. I attempted to use a Rouses GC that I received as a gift. Nope. The machine wouldn't take it. And my sweet cashier tried. Rather than tie up the already long line. I was directed to customer service. Where I stood and stood and stood. There were 2 people staffing the desk, but they mostly spoke to each other and then started taking people who wandered up rather than those of us in line... who couldn't maneuver because of random stock displays in the middle of the floor. I was told that it was my fault for waiting in line. OK. I gave up. And I'll figure out the GC thing at my regular Rouse's. read more

When I first called to see if they were open on the 4th, the person on the other line was pleasant. This is my neighborhood grocery. Competitors in this area are more expensive when it comes down to it. I know where everything I want is, that staff is nice, there are rarely lines, and I never have to park far from the entrance. A cheap bottle of wine, a couple of cheeses, some salami, and a movie from the RedBox machine isn't a bad date night either, even if it's by myself occasionally. They renovated this past year, and it does spiff up the place. I do believe they've added more organic food items and products for the organic-minded, but I don't feel like there was as much of an upgrade in their produce department. I still find myself sometimes without ma' cucumbers. And I'm a cucumber junkie. They also have this GREAT homemade pico de gallo, but they have it every blue moon. I know we're still local, and things do run out, but I've obviously set a demand for cucumbers and pico. read more

This is the Mid City branch of this local grocery chain. Products: Fresh and preserved foodstuffs, drinks (hard and soft), and a smattering of tees and cleaning supplies. I find the selection to be pretty great at this chain, and this location is no different. Their wine selection is excellent, with a large variety at all price levels. Like many groceries these days, the fresh produce section is quite truncated and pricey. Their deli also is varied in the items available, from fresh and cooked seafood to freshly butchered meat. Did I mention Rouse's is expensive? That's my only real complaint about their products. 3 stars Service: There is a small army working the store whenever I come in, constantly restocking, cleaning, and serving customers. I find them to be fairly average in skill, but there lines for checkout usually don't take long at all. 3 stars Facilities: I have to dig deep in my memory, but I think this store is at/near an old Schwegmann Bros. Super Market (that chain closed years ago), but I'm pretty sure this is a new build. It is a single story, vast brick-and-mortar. There is (barely) ample parking in a private lot, and some also park on the nearby street for easy egress upon leaving. This block of North Claiborne has a number of other businesses nearby that makes shopping in Mid City easy, and the storefronts are increasing in number. Having almost direct access to the Lafitte Greenway helps for those bicycling. The street isn't terribly walkable, though. The parking lot has access walkways and some green space, and it is tidy. Inside the store is cleanly as well, as should be expected for a grocery. 4 stars Overall: Other than being a stickler on price point, I think this is on of the better groceries in Mid City. There is a Winn-Dixie across the street, but I only suggest WDs for specials. Besides, I'd rather support a local business over a national one. 3 stars read more

They are cheaper than Win-Dixie down the street but they lack the selection of their competitor. If you want to go to a better location check out the Rouses on Airline Hwy in Metarie. The problem I have with this particular rouses is that it has more of a closed in feeling to it. It just doesn't seem the same as all the other Rouses I go to. I was just in Rouses store #29. I was there to return 3 overpriced items. Robert the Manager told me I can't make any more returns for 30 days because l am apparently being profiled for having a legitimate return. I had my receipt and the merchandise was untouched. I have made returns before because the seafood or the meat was spoiled. The bakery has stale products that should be thrown out and replaced. Don't blame me the shopper for returning products I'm not happy spending my money on. So I'll just take my business somewhere they treat you like a valuable customer. This is perhaps the largest and nicest Rouses market I've seen, and the first one where I didn't have to wait to check out. They had quite a large selection of specialty health food type items, but plenty of cheap chips and sodas too. The parking lot was a bit of a hassle to get in and out of, but this is the rare grocery store that is actually streetcar accessible if you want to get there that way. read more

Don't expect fresh produce. Don't expect to get all of your groceries you ordered. Matter of fact don't even expect to get your order in the parking lot because you will still have to wait 20 mins in a pickup spot for them to tel you to go inside to wait another 20 mins for customer service (only one person at the counter with a line of 10 people) on top of that the parking lot is a dumpster fire. I love Rouses'! I've lived a block from this Midcity location for 7 years now. Sure the staff know me, and sure it makes my life easier than most due to my proximity. One of the benefits of living as close is seeing the transformation happen to this store about a year and a half ago as the impending grand opening of the Winn-Dixie/Mid City Market loomed. Due to the competition, Rouses' has expanded it's offerings in nearly every department to include a sno-ball stand open year round, an extensive lunch counter that includes sushi, mongolian grill and pizza and an expanded organic department as well as new offerings in produce, bakery and liquor. read more

I went thru one one and the cashier never even spoke to me! She was too busy flirting with some other employee. This is my neighborhood Rouses and i'm happy to call it that! There's always fresh produce at decent prices, friendly and helpful staff, far from a place i dread going. I've yet to try any of their food from the hot bar(s) but i've heard raving things over them. I can say however that if you've ever wanted to try Rouses sushi but have been apprehensive about it, i am here to let you know, it's official. Go ahead and go nuts, the sushi is bomb! Also don't sleep on their house-made chicken salad and their special roasted peanut butter (which can be found hidden inside a little fridge in the section with the weighted oats/nuts/etc.) I have a CostCo membership and that works out great at times, but most of the time i don't need a year supply of pickles or a tub of mayonnaise from each visit, plus i like the familiarity i have with the place. I find going in the morning will get you in and out rather quickly. I know there are other grocery options in mid city, but Rouses definitely has my loyalty. Sorry Winn Dixie. Whole Foods; i'd love to but you guys are just outside of my price range, i know i should not trip over the dollar amount for food i put in my body, but we've got to meet halfway here on something.
