In short, the best food I had over a five day trip to Mexico City.
Stumbled on this place after running a bunch of searches for good Oaxacan food in Condesa and Roma Norte. It was quiet on a Monday night in January, but the warm service -- despite limited English on his end and limited Spanish on our end -- was immediately inviting. Two of us split a tlayuda, sopas, and the chicken mole. All three were outrageously good -- I'd never had a tlayuda before, and Aguamiel was a terrific starting point, loaded with chorizo and charred and smoky from their oven. The sopas were similarly delightful, as was the shockingly rich, deep, complex mole. The chicken fell off the bone -- no exaggeration -- without any effort; as I lifted the chicken leg out of the earthenware the meat slipped right off the bone! A delectable, flavorful flan was the perfect way to end the meal. On top of the terrific food, the room is gorgeous -- modern and airy -- and the open kitchen lets guests follow along with the talented chefs as they work.
I can't wait to head straight here the next time I'm in Mexico City. read more
