I drove in from out of town and was looking forward all day for dinner at Ashlan. Unfortunately, the exhaust fan in their kitchen stopped working, so cooking smoke was backing up into the dining room. As I was walking in, they were closing the restaurant. The woman at the cash register was so apologetic. We had a wonderful conversation about my disappointment, but I completely understood the situation. Unfortunately, my trip itinerary being what it was, I wasn't able to come back the next night to try their food. But I think my experience still qualifies for a review. The customer service during an adverse event and the ambience of the dining room were top drawer. I can't speak for the food, although I'd like to, but it isn't going to withhold me from giving them a great review. There's never a good time for mechanical problems. It's newly opened. I was here once when it was a Thai restaurant. They have been open for two months. Inside looks bright and clean and fresh, should after only being open for 2 months. Interior decor looks much better than it's Thai days. We were told to sit down at a back table. They are separating tables with reserved signs for tables between. Waitress or owner said there's a price war on chicken and some prices are higher as a result. Ordered a large Fattoush salad sans pita, shawarma plate with hummus and lentil soup and a chicken kabob with hummus and lentil soup. They have square pita, not fresh oven pita here. Their pickled veggies are good. Torchi-e are the pickled cabbage, along with pickled turnip, cucumbers, tomatoes and olives too. There seems to be rice in the lentil. Not a big fan, filler I would rather not have in my lentil. Asked for some garlic paste, not made with butter. Nicer The chicken shawarma meat tastes decent, although it's a bit dry. The chicken kabob meat is tender, juicy and flavorful too. It's good on it's own and even better with their garlic paste and hummus too. I decided to look for a Middle Eastern place near my home just to try something new. I work very close to Dearborn, so my standards for Middle Eastern food are pretty high. I chose Ahlan based on the good reviews and they were spot on. I got the combination meal for two and it was absolutely enormous! I'm a big eater and this was way more than my son and I could handle. The rice was amazing and the kebabs, shawarma meat grilled chicken were all perfectly spiced and delicious. This place rivals the best I've had in Dearborn and is a great value. This is a terrific find! A Lovely family runs the place and provides perfect service, the food was outstanding and it has a homey feel. I have been coming here quite often. I really like their okra stew. The service is impeccable. The hospitality is the way it should be, very family oriented. Wow. Wow wow wow. This place is amazing! I haven't had great middle eastern cuisine since I moved from the east side, so I was eager to try a new place that has a white bean stew or a curry stew to put on your rice. I haven't found another local spot that does, and this really reminds me of the more authentic restaurants I was used to from the east side. I got a chicken tikka dinner and it was HUGE - it came with roasted onion and tomato, pickled veggies, tons of rice, eight large chunks of chicken, the white bean stew for my rice, and a choice of soup or salad. I had the lentil soup and it was perfectly seasoned and very traditional. The dinner came with pita and I added on a side of garlic (very tasty, not too pungent, but lots of flavor) and also the homemade baklava (must try! Comes with two good sized pieces). Honestly, I've been underwhelmed by other places in the area and had lost hope before finding Palm. I will return again and again. When I ordered, the woman that answered the phone was so polite and very helpful. I look forward to dining in and getting the full experience in the near future. read more

Pretty much the worst chicken shawarma fattoush salad ever. Tons and tons of onions. Lots of bell peppers. A lack of sumac. No radishes. And the shawarma was the grilled variety, not even real chicken shawarma. The tangy dressing one usually gets on a fattoush? Completely missing. The toum was weird, thick and looked like the regular "garlic sauce", but the flavor was bizarre. I will never be back. The place was clean and new. Looked great. Found Ahlan through Google Maps recommendations and how high the reviews were made us need to try them. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. The lentil soup was perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. The Jido Burger was prepared exactly as requested and was juicy and full of flavor. The chicken tikka was well seasoned and the garlic sauce- chefs kiss!! The most perfectly cooked French fries I have ever eaten! However, I was disappointed in the chicken shish tikka (dry and not very flavorful), although the salad was fresh and the rice was tasty. A friend had the potato chop and enjoyed it and the hummus was good. The babaganouge was watery and not very flavorful. If you want bread,'be sure to order it. They didn't automatically include it with our order, as expected, unless they just forgot to pack it. Also forgotten was the curry potato stew that was supposed to come with my meal. Things happen. Yellow rice is fluffy, lamb shank literally melted off the bone, quail was tender, and beef kebabs were perfectly seasoned and charred. Chicken tikka and shawarma are delicious too! Stopped in last week for first time, at lunch. It's bright and clean looking, but lights were too bright, made it feel harsh. Overall, new decor was nice. Server came over promptly. Brought 2 glasses and pitcher of water. But did not pour the first glass, which seemed odd. We ordered. Took her several x to get it correct. Baba ghanough was good, but not great. Only have the purchased, flat, cold pita bread. They could have warmed it up!! The meat shawarma wrap was ok, but nothing great, plus a little dry. The potato chop wrap was good. We liked having the water pitcher on the table, to be able to refill the glasses, as needed. The dish of pickled and raw veggies they serve right away was the best part of the meal. Get the check. Not only did we NOT get the white bean stew side dish we had ordered, we were charged 2x for it!! Server was nice enough, but as she did not get our order right, it wasn't as good an experience as we would have liked. Overall, not bad, but could be a lot better. If you are not going to bake your own pita [it's more work and $$$ to do so], and want to be competitive in the area, at least warm up the bread.
