Our family has had children attend Ahren's for the past five years, moving through the youngest preschool class through Kindergarten. We are so incredibly grateful for the care provided to our son and daughter. At all times we knew they were in an environment that was safe and surrounded by people who truly cared for them. Our children grew into such wonderful little people under their watch. Not only did they learn from an academic standpoint but they continued to grow socially and emotionally. Our children entered into public school well above their peers in regards to subjects like math and reading but, more importantly, they were more mature, knew how to be kind friends, and were ready to learn. Our son when to Ahren's for the past few years and recently finished kindergarten. I am retired military and a business owner with high expectations and Ahren's was a great experience. Safety was our first concern. Ahren's access control is on point. Normally Mr John is in his office and monitors access if not there is a teacher on duty. You have to walk through the front door to access the care center. Education was our second concern. Every child in day care is taught to prepare for kindergarten. It seems like our child moving from kindergarten is ready for 2nd grade. Communication and kindness. Ahren's staff are very communication heavy. They made going through Covid easy and painless. They call and email information as well as group and one on one face to face. Ahren's is not your typical day care or education institution, it's a family, you feel like family. My son attended Ahren's Child Care for 4 years and we had nothing but great experiences. From the time that we started to the time my son stopped attending, they felt like family. He was enrolled during the Covid outbreak and throughout all the unknowns and constant changes, they still made every effort to ensure that he was well taken care of. All of the teachers were nice and professional. Ms. Alissa, Miss Debbie and Mr. John (the facility coordinator) were amazing to interact with. Never had any problems here, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for childcare, your children will be safe and cared for. If you are looking to pay for your child to watch the maximum amount of tv allotted by the American Academy of Pediatrics, then Ahrens is the place for you. * When we toured Ahrens over two years ago, I did not notice the television in the front room. It took a couple of days for me to pick up my child and find the television on. This was two years ago and since that time, the amount tv watching has dramatically increased. First, I noticed it was just on in the evening at pickup time. Then, I also began noticing that the tv was on at drop off time in the morning. When our son was two and three he would regularly nap in the afternoon, but as he started growing out of his nap when he was closer to age four he would often come home in the evening and talk about movies that we had never watched together at home in great detail. When asked, he would reply that he had watched the movie at school. I was informed that the three and four year olds that do not nap, watch television during nap time so they can rest. Nap time is 90 minutes. In the Spring of 2016 when picking up my son, Kay Ahrens pulled me aside and in front of my child informed me that he had a bad day and that "I don't know if you spank your kids, but if you do, he deserves to be spanked when you get home." I felt so shamed and upset, like I was failing. At an unknown time, the two year old teacher that we really enjoyed stopped working at Ahrens. We were really shocked and sad because she was one of our favorites. Miss Leah was the only teacher that I would see reading to the children in all my time of picking up and dropping off. In April of 2017, I picked up my son just before 5PM and the television was on (usually it isn't on until after five). I was upset because of the dramatic increase in tv time at Ahrens and I asked for clarification from the teacher who was in the front room. I asked about the tv being on before five and stated that I thought they didn't usually turn the tv on until after five. This teacher responded saying "Oh, we were short staffed so we just brought the kids up front and turned the tv on early." After having multiple issues, my husband and I were supposed to have a meeting with John Ahrens and Miss Rosanna on April 27th. We showed up and Miss Rosanna was not present in the meeting. During this time, John stated "we only have two ways of punishing children" (which are having children put their head down for a time out and having children run back and forth to the tire out back. John went on to explain that he has been doing this for over thirty years and back in the day they used to have parents tell him that it was okay to spank their children. It may have been the look of shock on my face, but John clarified that they never actually spanked students. My concern was the wording of punishing. It seemed that rather than trying to correct behavior or prevent unwanted behavior that the focus was on "punishing". This was the last day our son attended Ahrens. These are a few of the dozen reasons we decided to remove our son from Ahrens. While this childcare center has always been known for excellence, the quality in just the two years that we were there dramatically declined. We will miss the Halloween parade and the Christmas program, but those two things do not outweigh the downfalls. *The AAP recommends children watch no more than two hours of tv per day read more

I can not say enough about how wonderful my family's experience has been at Ahrens Child Care Center over the past 8 years! I completely trusted all the wonderful teachers with my kids, and that is such a comforting feeling being able to leave your kids with people you trust. The kids loved and enjoyed learning with all the different weekly themes going on in the classes. They put on such fun holiday activities for the kids and families to enjoy. The educational process and curriculum prepared my kids well for academic success for years to come. read more

I recently had my 2 boys pulled from this school for a sexual incident that occurred with another student. I had notified the school immediately and they were quick in responding to the incident and seemed to care deeply about the situation. As I expressed my feelings about what I found out, the owners agreed that the enclosed playhouse the incident occurred in would be taken out. As the days went by, a report was submitted by the owners but were a bit clueless as to what the procedures were in this type of situation. They seemed a little outdated in my opinion. Although they might have tried to do their best in this situation, they failed horribly in my families eyes. In the end, I felt that the owners did not want us back after a follow up phone call I had with Mr. John, in order to sweep this under the rug and move on. The owners seemed to have cared at the time, but they still continue to have the enclosed playhouse despite what they told us in our initial meeting. Mr. John's comment to me was,"we now only have one child at a time in the house who is supervised.... through the windows of the house." In my opinion, they should have ALWAYS been closely supervised, especially in an enclosed playhouse with or without windows. This was our first school our boys ever attended. We had chose this school because of the caring staff. Now, we have reviewed many other schools and notice that all the "bigger" well known schools/daycares do not have ANY walls or hiding corners children can sneak to. There are also NO playhouses because of the incidences (like ours) that can occur. It saddens me and is a shame that the owners of this school did not follow through on removing the playhouse. I would just like to warn other parents about this issue because both my boys (2 & 3 years old) were in different classes & play yards and they both were sexually harassed & touched by other students on several occasions under their supervision. I later found out that the school was cited in 2018 for exceeding the teacher:child ratio. I dont want any other child and family to undergo the hurt and embarrassment that I saw in my childrens eyes when they told me what had happened. read more

5 stars does not do Ahrens Child Care Center justice. If I could rate 50 stars, I would... Our family was lucky enough to find Ahrens when our daughter was two, so I am writing this review based on 5 years of experience with them, as our daughter ended up attending through kindergarten. Each year was as good or better than the last. Ahrens strikes the perfect balance between academics and socialization/play. They are a true preschool, and provide age appropriate materials at all levels of education. When our daughter started public school in 1st grade this past August, she would come home and ask when she would start learning new things! In fact, at our parent/teacher conference, we were asked where she attended preschool/kindergarten, as her teacher "had never had such a well prepared first grader in all of her decades of teaching." This is a direct quote. While the academics are of course important, it was the nurturing, caring environment that each and every teacher provided at Ahrens that was appreciated the most. They truly treat each child as if they are family. My daughter used to beg to stay longer when I came to pick up! There is no better feeling than dropping your child off at a place that they love and feel comfortable in, each and every day. I recommend Ahrens wholeheartedly to everyone. Ahrens laid the groundwork for her love of school and education. One of the best starts we could have ever given our daughter. read more

We loved our experience at Ahrens; it is such a special place. My son was enrolled in the Pre-K program, and he stayed for Kindergarten. He is now in 1st grade and is doing great! The care and attention given to him at Ahrens definitely set him up for success--both academically and emotionally/interpersonally. We miss it there, for sure. I called this school to see about enrolling my son. I called a few times actually and I left a message and I spoke to the owner regarding space available this year for my child. I never got a call back and didn't get any information about enrollment. If this place can't even return a phone call, they aren't competent to take care of anything. Shame on this business and the owner. I'd never trust them. If you can't pick up a phone, then you aren't worthy my money or the privilege of getting to know my child. Don't use this place!! Ahren's Child Care is a great school! My daughter attended school there for Pre-K and Kindergarten, and I am so thankful for that! She met wonderful friends, had great teachers and learned a lot! John and Kay are wonderful and truly run a terrific business! They are accommodating, genuine people who really care about their kids! My daughter is so far ahead in school, and I think that attributes to the quality education she received by attending Ahren's. She gained so much from Mrs. Debbie and Mrs. Alissa! She learned how to read and quickly excelled from there (she left Ahren's reading at a 2nd grade level)! She not only got a great education there, but she learned social and organizational skills as well! She is definitely better off because she went to school there! I will always be thankful to Ahren's Child Care for all that they have done for our family, and I highly recommend this school! I have been teaching first grade for the Redlands Unified School District for the past 19 years. Every August when I get my class list I am elated when I see an Ahrens Kindergarten graduate enrolled in my class. Academically, they have always been my top students. Their reading level is often comparable to a second grader and their comprehension is right on target. They have excellent background knowledge in a variety of subjects and their math computation skills are above the norm. Transitioning from kindergarten into first grade can often be scary for 6 years olds, let alone a school change. The children that come from Ahrens arrive in the public school setting confident, excited and filled with enthusiasm. For the first few weeks these students mistakenly call me Mrs. Debbie and more recently Mrs. Alissa, which is quite normal, and I regard it as a compliment because I can tell that they had a wonderful and loving connection with their kindergarten teachers. I have been wanting to write this review for many years and I regret that I am just now getting to it. If I have a grandchild someday, I will definitely enroll them in Ahrens preschool and kindergarten program. read more
