The menu looked great and it was in the opposite direction of the tourist area. We talked with the hotel concierge and he said it's best to have reservations but that lunch is a little easier just to walk in. We arrived around 12:30 and asked if they could accommodate us and the server was friendly and happy to seat us at a two-top at the back of the restaurant. It was a perfect viewpoint for good people watching. Speaking of people watch... it's clear this is a locals place. The restaurant probably has 10 or so tables. When we arrived there were just a few tables empty and the tables that were there were enjoying life with wine and a multi-course meal. There was a woman I admired because she was eating by herself and thoroughly enjoying it, she clearly knew the entire staff ( they kept coming to visit), she had her dog with her and was taking her time to savor the meal and her bottle of wine. Anyway, back to the food. My husband ordered a Campari spritz and I got a glass of their house white. It was so good I had a second glass! We ordered the beef roll to share. It was braised beef with Parma ham or some kind of cured ham in the middle. It was braised until it was tender in a marinara/tomato sauce. Yum! My husband ordered rigatoni with octopuses with a kind of basil pesto and it was great. He also ordered roasted potatoes. Hr just wanted it I guess but they were good and cooked perfectly. I ordered the pasta with artichokes and bottarga. It was superb. It had a lemon sauce that was rich and delicious. I forgot to mention they serve a bread basket with these crispy cracker-type things that were great. I could taste anise seeds in them. They also served a crusty bread. At the end the friendly server offered dessert. I had no room. We opted for espresso to help digest. Our bill ended up being $111 euros. We will likely make a dinner reservation and return but the concierge said there are more than 400 restaurants in Venice. We have a lot of options on our list but this is worth a second visit.
