Five stars for drinks, but was disappointed to sit at the bar while waiting for a table, only to see the food being heated up in plastic containers in a microwave, then poured onto dishes. Maybe they were cooked earlier that day? Not sure, but we went elsewhere in search of fresh food. read more

Found this on Yelp. Great atmosphere! Had a bottle of rose and the lasagna in cream sauce. My husband had the eggplant parmigiana. We split the caprese and tomatoes. All of it was great! Amazing dinner! Hostess was super friendly and explained the specials in English! Great choices of wine! Unfortunately I was looking forward to the gnocchi, but it's only offered during their winter season. We were so glad to stumble onto this place thanks to some Yelp reviews!!! Kinda dive"ish" kinda fantastic!! Food was awesome!! Best dinner we had had in 2 weeks in Italy!! With just one night left in Rome my husband would go back again tomorrow night too. We had a very high end vacation and it was great to find this local spot. Very casual, great service, great food. The best Italian food and the waitress is the most gently person, it worth it more than one visit

I went to Ai Tre Scalini twice last summer. The food is very good, though there isn't much on the menu. I would definitely recommend it.

We came by around 7pm on a Sunday and they had quite the line. We came back Monday for a late lunch at 3pm and were seated right away. Excellent food, great friendly service with recommendations. Great food, great menu, great prices. The vibe at the place is very upbeat and fun. They have a full bar in the front, which gets pretty crowded. In the back there are more tables. Most people order their food in waves. The portions are actually larger than the tapas restaurants we've been to in the US - and they also fill you up with free goodies, including lots of good bread and other complimentary snacks. So, the two of us only ended up ordering 3 dishes. The house wine was good (had a bit of a short finish, but I'm embarrassed that I even know what that means and it's a house wine) and only cost 4.5 euros per 250 ml. Wine by the glass cost 5 euros. Our total bill for 3 dishes and a small bottle of wine was 27 euros. Amazing. read more

Decent place. Sitting with my head facing the wall. Very busy and loud with lots of locals which is a good sign, but because we were hungry and wanting drinks we decided to go for food. Not so good. The prices are good for what you get but at this moment, I am deciding whether or not the rose will be ok with my tummy. We got the lasagne and bore sausages with bread and the Le Volte wine. After my Sangiovese glass of crap, the Le Volte was wonders for my palate. But after stomaching the reheated (not very well I might add) lasagne and crappy first glass of wine, I had to hand my second glass to the hubby. If you know me, that is not something I do. If you are desperate, this place is ok but if you can, find something else. read more

I would agree with other posters. We had the most amazing meal at Ai Tre Scalini. Our lovely hosts at the Inn at the Roman Forum arranged for reservations for us. I loved sitting at the bar while we waited for our table to be ready. It was fun watching the world go by. The wine selection is quite good. We had a lovely red whose name I regret not remembering. The mozzarella and tomatoes! The eggplant. The gnocchi. The veal. It was so fresh. Light. Flavorful. The outside of the restaurant hummed with people sipping wine and chatting. Inside, the restaurant was filled with locals and a few lucky tourists like us. I have been recommending Ai Tre Scalini to anyone traveling to Rome. And, if by some miracle, you have room left, you can pop into Il Gelatone nearby for an amazing nutella gelato. read more

This is one of my favorite meals here in Rome. The " antipasti" alone could have been a meal for two. It was the most decadent flavor. Fresh bufala ricotta with truffle honey and arugula. It came with a basket of bread that served as a vessel into our mouth, but was also perfectly paired for the dish. The gnocchi of the day was delicious as was the rest of our meal. One of the best meals we had in Rome!!! The food is fresh and creative, but what made the experience is the service! Yes, the service in Rome is different. Possibly very difficult for american's to deal with, but at tre scalini they were welcoming, spoke English without making us feel like idiots, and helped us make the right decisions! Great find thanks to yelp-ers. my friends were passed out from the night before so I went to the coliseum solo & needed a casual place to get some good food after a long day of walking. This place is so far my favorite find in Rome. I had the eggplant parmigiana and the meatballs and both were incredible. Eggplant was not fried, it was roasted and so tasty and light. This is a wonderful restaurant with great food. When I was in Rome three years ago I discovered this nice little restaurant. This year when I went to rome it was a must-stop and it is still there and still has Arancia Accondita on the menue. Service and Atmosphere are perfect as well. read more

This is my favorite place in Monti for a glass of wine (the menu changes all the time so you get to taste new wines!) and snacks.
